I had not been to Cocoa Cinnamon since before the pandemic began, but when I visited recently, it was just as good as I remember! The indoor seating area is not open, but there is a small outdoor seating area. I went to the Lakewood location on a Saturday during the early afternoon. There was a bit of a wait due to the line inside so I would recommend you ordering online via their website if you would rather not wait. One thing to note is that when you place your order inside, they automatically add a tip to your order no matter the size of the order. The Lakewood location also has a small parking lot, which I really appreciated. I ordered the Caramelo, which was very good! It was just sweet enough (not too sweet) and very rich in flavor. The design was a nice touch as well :-) If you are looking for a conveniently located coffee shop with dessert options, delicious coffee drinks, and outdoor seating, this is it! Whether you are looking for a spot to people watch while you enjoy coffee, spend some time in solitude with a good book, or fellowship with a small group of people, Cocoa Cinnamon is where its at! I look forward to visiting again before winter.

When we visit Durham, we stop at Cocoa Cinnamon. For me, the coffee is different and more tasty than even the best chains. It has such good flavor. They are local and we love supporting them. They ship nationwide! Little Waves coffee roasters is where the magic is made. Mmmmm.

First time visitor. I always tip, but I do believe adding an automatic 20% tip is pretty audacious. Tips should reflect level of service. If you are like me, for instance, and weren’t even greeted for minutes upon walking in and were the only person in line, I’d say a 10% tip would have been more appropriate.

Loved it here! Churros were amazing, so fresh and warm, crunchy on the outside and soft in the center. The drinking chocolate paired well with it, though I wish it were thicker, it was still reminiscent of a melted Hershey bar! A cool atmosphere I would recommend if youre in the area.

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Drinks are made correctly and I don’t mind being a regular here! The wait time is a little long, but reasonable (they take the time to make your drink correctly!). They have a good selection of speciality coffee drinks as well as drinking chocolates. The coffee is above average compared to other places around the area and I appreciate the cultural diversity with the decor. I’ll definitely have try something other than a traditional cappuccino.

This is a local sweet spot with more history than can be covered in a single review, and I adore it even more because of it. Its a famous community spot that does its best to give back to its patrons, with free wifi, its Community Coffee program, and its deeply seeded respect for its origins in Mexico. I would give this place six stars if I could.

Im usually not a fan of specialty coffee drinks that are too sweet and have overpowering flavors that wash out the coffee itself. I was incredibly skeptical for that reason, but the drink I had here was actually really interesting and balanced. It still isnt something I could have as my daily coffee, but as a treat I really enjoyed it. They also have a great bean selection sold by the pound.

What coffee shop have you ever been to that serves freshly made churros, from scratch?... Thats what I thought! Not just any churros, these are special. I took one bite and was immediately transported to heaven. In my 50 years Ive never tasted any remotely like them. Absolutely sublime.Theres a giant stainless steel fryer right behind the counter where the batter, oil, and cinnamon combine to make magic. The sights, sounds, aromas all enhance to the experience. Its no surprise that Cocoa Cinnamon was on the list of the 15 coffee shops to visit before you die. There are three locations in Durham, each with their own unique drink and menu specialties. For instance, at this location, your only options are croissant rolls and the heavenly churros. The Baristas were outstanding. Even with just the two of them they managed the hectic pace, steady line of customers while still remaining courteous and accommodating. Most highly recommended; if you love coffee shops and youre ever anywhere near Durham, this is a must stop.

I want to give this place five stars. The chocolate and churros deserve it but the service was straight up terrible. We waited for thirty minutes on a slow evening. They forgot to make our order, were incredibly disorganized. One person told us to wait at a table until our name was called another gave us specific instructions in how to get our order. I hope they come up with a more efficient process or training procedures because I would love to see this place thrive.

This location of Cocoa Cinnamon had plenty of seating with garage doors at the front so now that the weather is beautiful, you have the indoor-outdoor vibe. Great coffee selections and alternate drinks. I had hibiscus tea with mint (aqua de Jamaica), but was also interested in the matcha lemonade. This location also had made to order churros which are delicious and come with your choice of 4 types of sugar: plain, cinnamon, cardamom, and orange. You can also get it with chocolate dipping sauce. Fantastic place to work also as there is so much space and seating. There is also an outdoor patio.

So good. Can’t wait to go inside once it is safe. It looks very hip from the outside. We ordered two lattes and a bag of churros. The churros are the best, and our coffees were excellent as well. There is subtlety to the flavors and they are not overly sweet.I will echo what others have said about the website and online order system being confusing. This shop would benefit from reorganizing their online menu a bit. It’s navigable, but plan on spending 5-10 minutes on their site finding everything, even if you already know what you want.

Loved my latte with a hint of cayenne pepper as usual. Brought my sister here for the first time so we bought 4 made from-scratch churros.... could taste the distinct flavors of each. They were just the way I Iiked them...crispy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside. I enjoyed my drink.. My sister not so much---but not the fault of Cocoa. The description of the Dr Durham was dead on. Very earthy with the strong taste of Maca. Might want to try something else for a 1st visit if you never had Maca. Seating is very close--elbow to elbow- school cafeteria style---i never mind that, but may be uncomfortable if you are accustomed to sitting at your own table. Come earlier if you want smaller tables. This location has great Mexican tile as a backsplash and has nice coffee house music. This is a good layout when having a quick, non confidential meeting with a group. Will definitely go back!

We have been to the other Cocoa Cinnamon location on West Geer before, but we got the early morning cravings for some hot Churros and discovered this was their only location that serves fresh made-to-order churros doused in different sugars (regular, cinnamon, orange and cardamom) with a side of dipping chocolate. The hot drinks were on point too! Mine was a mole infused latte drink (with a unicorn design) and my wife got a hot chocolate with dairy free milk! Visited with friends after lunch and it was crazy crowded. We tried the hot chocolate and churros. Hot chocolate was absolutely rich, dacadent and delish - definitely on par to the chocolates Ive had in cafes in Paris and I loved it. However, the churros were just ok. We got the cinnamon sugar and orange sugar churros. Cinnamon was definitely better than the orange sugar which was not as fragrant as Id hoped for. My biggest issue was that the churros seemed overcooked. I like my churros crispy on the outside and warm and slightly chewy/moist on the inside but if you like your churros pretty solid/dry these are the ones for you. The weirdest part for me was the order system. My friends ordered a hot chocolate, latte and churros. They had to wait ~30 mins after the hot chocolate was made for the churros because it was held up by the latte order.

Their churros are so so good. Nice atmosphere, and cool initiative. I love how they have really tried to make this coffee shop like the tapestry of the community. They have Hispanic inspired coffee, and pastry foods like their churros to make sure the long standing Hispanic community in lake wood feels at home inside this space. and so outsiders know a little bit more about the local community. To have an initiative like that inside a space like a coffee shop is so cool! support local and go here!

I went to the Chapel Hill Rd. Location. Had never been to this location but I was referred to for the churros... I am from Mexico, and churros there, and the churros in the U.S. .. different!!! So I asked for details. It was kind of hard to understand since both people, customer and merchant, are wearing masks, trying to communicate through a hard plastic divider, and the traffic on the background, create a lot of confusion. How about some pictures, Cocoa Cinnamon? They have different flavors. I decided to buy one of each to try their flavors. 5 churros total. And 3 hot chocolates... $26... Whaaaaat?... I payed it. But honestly, what happened to the churros guy at Greens Market at the Durable Flea Market. I used to go ONLY FOR THE CHURROS, EVERY SUNDAY A whole bag for $3. I would pay him $6 dollars for that bag. Anyway. Hot Chocolates were ok..Im a bit disappointed. The lady cooking it is Hispanic. Im Hispanic. We know we can make better chocolate. I mean, hispanics, overall. No. Not generalizing. But yes we can make some mean Hot Abuelitas Chocolate...
