I chose Penske to rent a van because of their location and favorable reputation. I had rented a high roof cargo van, to make the trip and loading as easy as I could. I had contacted Penske 3 times prior to the date. The first time to confirm my reservation, the second to change the date, and the third time a week before to make sure all was in order and the high roof van was going to be available as required. Each time I received assurances that everything was all set and we were good to go.On the day I went to pick up the van, they didnt have the van I wanted, it was just a standard van with the low roof. Dispite my protest, I was told this was the van I had rented, and was told I must have made a mistake. Since I was on a tight time line, took the van and headed north.It didnt take long to discover the wheels were out of balance and the front left brake caliper was warped, making braking miserable in the beginning and only worse as the day went on. Having to drive on 128 outside of Boston with a van during rush hour traffic is never fun. Having to dive this van and keep up with the 70 mph traffic flow caused it to shake and vibrate all the way to Plymouth NH. The brakes continued to get worse as the trip went on. On arrival I now had to load a bedroom full of furniture into a van that forced you to load and move in a bent over position. This made a tough job tougher due to the low roof.Now for the return trip. A loaded van in traffic is never fun. This thing was a handful. The ride back in rush hour traffic with a van than vibrates at highway speed is exhausting. Throw in a warped brake rotor that got worse as it heated up, boarded on dangerous. Driving at a slower pace on 128 is not an option. The semis will push you off the road.I cant blame Penske for the mass holes on 128, nor for the near 100 degree heat of the day. I can blame them for providing me a van that was smaller than I ordered, in in poor working candition. The lack of effort by the rep who put me in this van and the lack of concern from the rep that I returned it to, tells me about the culture of Penske. When I spoke to a customer service rep about my experience, he told me that he was surprised that they had a van at all, and I was lucky to get the one I got. He had no response to the operating condition of the van. When I asked why I should rent from Penske again, he only explained that I shouldnt use the corporate website, he offered little apology for my experience and really didnt give a reason to use Penske in the future.

We always rent trucks from hertz the trucks are reliable and always are xlean and run good and not hoopties I always recommend hertz penske in cranston on amflex drive

I ordered a truck and it was going to be delivered to a location in CT. I ordered it over the phone a month before moving. They take my info and credit card to hold it. I call two days before and pay for the rental because the place im picking it up only take credit card and no cash. The person picking it up for me doesnt do credit. I talk to a nice lady. Takes my info and credit card number. I tell her the reservation number and my name and she says you are all set. Im elated because its all taken care of. The day of the person picking up calls me and says the truck is not paid for. I said yes it is. I explained everything. Nope cant have the truck. I give the same card and mind you this card has a lot of credit on it so it would cover it no problem. Nope. Not going through. Now im really upset because im right in the middle of a move with no truck. The lady would not give us the truck. She proceeded to call the company. Cant get through she says. So I had no truck on moving day. Now I called back and talk to the pickup place and they took no responsibility and passed it off to this location where I made my reservation. How come I was told it was all set? How come if true and my credit card didnt work I wasnt notified. So the stress and disaster I was left in moving without a truck was very uncool. Dont let this happen to you

Rented a specific vehicle with lift gate 2 weeks out, show up and told they didnt have it and that I didnt reserve a lift gate despite showing the reservation on my phone for a cab over which only comes with a lift gate on the website. Screwed up an entire job. UPDATE: Call if you need a lift gate, the website apparently only tells them the size of the truck even though it lists all cab-overs as coming with a lift gate (and is happy to charge for it).

Bought a used Penske 2015 Freightliner boxtruck listed as premium with 119,000 miles for $36,000 in February 2021 and less than two months later the truck stalled on the highway with engine failure. I am now now stuck making payments on a truck that is out of commission. My attempts to contact Penske have been fruitless. Penske must have know of the engine problem but did not disclose this. Such a dishonest company.

You book a vehicle 3 weeks in advance. Check in on reservation a week later and all set. Call the day before to check again confirming reservation and they say they do not have the vehicle you confirmed twice.I have done business and have recommended this place to others but never again.

Moved from Florida to Massachusetts scheduled a truck in Florida when I arrived on the scheduled day man said he is not on location wont be there for hours ended up renting a truck somewhere else, now in New England driving for a company that uses Penske trucks had truck trouble brought it to Penske for repair,great that they can get right on it and repair it but no waiting room no nothing cold outside and youre standing around with no chair no nothing cramps in Rhode island

Unfortunately, I have to leave a bad review.I delivered a truck here at the tail end of a move a couple months ago. This location was not the one originally booked. My originally scheduled drop off location was closed on the day I was to return it. Penske contacted me and asked me to return it to this facility.This was not a big deal, but it was a decent distance farther from where I had arranged to stay during my move. Penske told me “no problem, we’ll compensate you.”Well, I spoke to no less than four representatives from this facility starting on the day I dropped off the truck until a couple of weeks ago relaying the issue. Each one said that they would resolve it. Not one has. I even went as far as to get the email of the last rep and sent him a reminder. But no luck.I should point out, I never asked for severe compensation. Only what I thought was fair: the additional cost of a cab ride from this location compared to my original drop off was only ~35$. Not worth my time or energy to keep trying to get these guys to figure it out.Not too upset about the money, but the principle of it really disappoints. Do not work with this office, they will lie to you.

I was supposed to get my truck from a local Home Depot but the person who had it the day before didnt return it. Penske called me and made arrangements for me to go here to get my truck. They upgraded the size, reduced the mileage rate and credited me for having to come out of my way.The truck was pretty new, drove great (brakes were amazing) and we got our move accomplished in less time because of the bigger truck.

This operation is a total joke. 4 times we reserved a truck for 7:00am. Not once were they ready for us, and this last time they didn’t even have our truck. Do you think they could have called us the afternoon before to tell they didn’t have our truck? No.Stay away.
