Outstanding customer service! Justin assisted me with my online purchase and was very courteous in helping me with changes to my order. Shipping was extremely fast as well, impressive when I have seen shipping times understandably altered by COVID. And my purchase was exactly as described and at an unbeatable price. I highly recommend Sims Music and would not hesitate to purchase from them again in the future. A+++

Sims has the best service imaginable. I dropped off my vintage Fender Super Reverb amplifier to be serviced since is sounded muddy and had lost its spark. Brad worked his magic and replaced several tubes. My amplifier now sings...it is sounds better than it ever has. I am one very happy customer. I have the highest recommendation for their work on vintage equipment. The icing on my cake was the very, very reasonable fee for their services.

Very unhappy, Ordered a new Jackson Dinky Minion and received a used one!!! heck it even came in a Fender Box. has no manufactures info to register it for warranty. they are claiming that the tech set it up but that sinks because I was going to have the nut and keys replaced before set up and I prefer to do that my self. For the record new means unopened box. once somebody touches it and adjusts anything, it becomes used in like new condition. plus there are fingerprints all over it and a couple very small blemishes on the finish. Im pretty sure it was a floor model that they sold as new but I am just assuming that and could be wrong. If I was ok with an already set up guitar with the wrong box and no info from the manufacture I could have bought one from guitar center for the same price and taken it home that day.

Awesome experience which reminded me of old days gone by when you could go into a specialty shop and get specialty answers. Highly recommend. Ive put them in my go to contact list for gear.Ian and Louis were particularly helpful without pushing up sales. They directed me to the best option they had that would meet my intent vs. inappropriate upselling. Their pricing follows normal market pricing and theyll work with you on matching pr slightly beating many competitor deals. Return policy is 48-hr store credit only, but understandable due to market conditions - so just make sure you are getting the right piece of equipment the first time. This isnt a buy, try and return when needed. However, I appreciate that the policy keeps costs down for everybody.

Sims is THE music store in South Carolina. They are the best around. Very helpful and knowledgeable about all instruments. Locally owned and friendly. They are honest and wont try to talk you into something you dont need.

Ok. I purchased a small headphone amplifier and a 1/4 to 3.5mm adapter on Saturday. It turns out I bought this and didnt need it. I come into the store the following Wednesday to try to return unopened product and they wont even exchange it. I dont mean to rag on a local business but this is terrible service. Other local music supply stores have no problems doing this kind of stuff. If you need help, Sims is not the place to go. Just go to guitar center down the road even though it isnt local.

Ive been to Sims a few times and all except once Ive had good experiences. Ive called in asking about products and was helped by a very knowledgeable sales person. Sims has always been great to me, even when I was the obnoxious little window shopper I used to be in my teens. Unfortunately, I have to update this original review from about 2015. I began having my guitar repairs done there and have had AND continue to have a major problem getting my Martin repaired and returned to me. It is a really long story that wont fit here, but long story shortened.Brought the Martin that I purchased at Sims back to them for repair. The neck was warping and they only quoted a set up for $75. I questioned it but they assured me that was all it required. Then they called back and said it was over $300, Then when it was finally completed 3 months later, it was over $400. They WOULD NOT work with me on the price. On top of it, nothing was repaired!!! It still had the same measurements on the action. Now, for a second time, it has been at their repair person for the past 3 months again. I am a professional musician AND I havent had use of my guitar for HALF OF THIS ENTIRE YEAR! I will not be stepping foot in the store ever again due to their insensitive attitude and complete disregard for customer service skills. Not to mention their lack of knowledge regarding repair work involving instruments. They shouldnt even bother quoting stuff that they have no idea about fixing. If anyone knows a good attorney, please advise because Im considering a lawsuit at this point.

Sims Music has been my go to for many years now. Their team has been great us and always trying to find a way to fit my/our needs. Its nice to have people who actually know what they are talking about but in the rare occasion that someone doesnt know an answer to a question I may have they find someone who can answer rather than just spouting something off. Nothing worse than going somewhere, asking a question and to only find out the person you are talking to knows way less than you do but they tell you very adamantly how to do it. LOL! I have been to many other music dealers and have felt like I was a bother to ask a question or they had prices that I knew were overpriced on things as simple as tuners, strings, instruments, etc. I pass several other music shops to get to Sims and drive a good distance but its worth it... not to mention they are the original Taylor Guitar dealers for the Midlands!

I dont like leaving bad reviews, but I went to Sims more than ten times over the course of two years. Ive bought strings, pedals, and my dream guitar from them, but the issues with the guitar and their lack of quality work and willingness to help made me lose all respect for them.First, it was like pulling teeth to purchase the guitar, as they kept trying to convince me to buy a guitar they had on display rather than order the one I wanted in a different color.Next, although they offer free setups for life, the guitar did not come set up, even though they assured me it was after bringing it in to be looked at multiple times. When I inspected the guitar for myself, the truss rod wasnt even connected! If thats not a straight indication that they didnt even bother to look, I dont know what is.After awhile, the tuning problems were getting to be too much, coupled with the pickup selector going out, and I caved and came back to get it looked at. I brought it in twice, each time them telling me they wouldnt look at it since it wasnt shorting out when I got there. Also, as for the tuning issues:Some guitars are just like that.No they arent. If they were, no one would buy them.I got fed up after giving them way too many chances and took it to a repair shop I found called Strings Attached. I brought it in and they didnt give me any push-back. Just fixed the switch and identified the issues causing the tuning problems and fixed them.My guitar finally plays like it should have from day one, and Im very happy with it, but Sims did nothing waste my time and cause frustration.I cant tell you that youll have the same experience. I can only attest to what happened to me.

Poor customer service. The “lights” expert sold my a par can without any film holders. When I called to see if I could obtain the holders he had no clue who the manufacturer was or the model number. I had to correct him twice who the actual manufacturer was (MBT). I was told by two employees that they would investigate about obtaining the film holders and an additional par can and possible repair business. I never recieved a callback. The additional par can, the film holders, the service business and a starter guitar for my grandson?? I’ll take my business elsewhere.

Sims music is the best! I left Guitar Center over Memorial day weekend because they were pestering me to buy a guitar that i didnt want and was trying to talk me out of the guitar i did want. I showed up to Sims right as they were closing only to have one of the store clerks(might have been the owner) to let me in to make a purchase. Sims has one thing the big box stores dont have....real people that care about their business. The level of professionalism and genuine common courtesy that I received has made me a customer from here on out. The prices are on par with the larger stores. After everything was said and done with my last purchase, I only paid $5 more then i would have if i bought my guitar new online or from another big box store. Thats a small price to pay to not deal with the corporate headaches.

My son has taken lessons from Sims for over 2 years now and i have made many major and small purchases from them. They are always competitively priced and very helpful. It is great to have a personal touch, service abilities and the vast knowledge of the sims employees to help pick out the perfect instrument or accessory and it is obvious they care about their customers. They have a huge selection of instruments and have really cool limited run colors that you cant find in the major chains that treat instruments like appliances. In a day of big box stores and online shopping it gets increasingly more difficult for home town stores to carry on. So shop local and support all the great folks at sims!

Review №64

Im a guitarist. Ive been occasionally patronizing Sims since before they moved to St. Andrews Rd. Very professional, they have the best selection in the Columbia area. My only gentle criticism - as I like them a lot - is that all of their guitars are locked down like they are delicate treasures and not to be handled by mere mortals. When your geographically closest competitors allow customers to feel comfortable and able to pick up ANY guitar they so desire, to - well, thats a lot more business friendly than having to seek out a salesperson for every guitar youd like to check out. I really wish they would rethink their policy. Yeah, you are going to get the odd scratch - but the vast majority are very careful with instruments. The reality is, they are saving a few nicks now and again, but their policy is likely GREATLY inhibiting the much more substantial sales a loosening of policy would likely produce. Perhaps they could redesign the showroom for greater freedom while monitoring the odd kid who thinks hes Pete Townshend!

Br
Review №65

What store locks their guitars and expects you to want to buy one? This is the problem with private music stores, something you will never see at a guitar center or other large chain. The employees made it seem like I was an inconvenience to them and wanting to play a guitar before purchasing it was crazy. I will never buy anything from these people.

DRUMMERS: THIS IS YOUR STORE!!!Sims Music is my favorite store, period. I wish they sold groceries. I have been a loyal Sims customer since 1984. They have a tremendous inventory, and a fantastic, knowledgeable staff. Their pricing is competitive, but their service is second to none. Sims staff has even helped me out after-hours at the gig.As a drummer, I find their drum department to be heaven on earth. They get early releases of Zildjian and Sabian. They have a fantastic relationship with DW. They have a good stock of heads, sticks and accessories. The hand-percussion selection is top-notch as well. Clinics? They have those, too. Steve Gadd, Keith Carlock, Peter Erskine, Aaron Spears, and John Blackwell just to name a few (now....if they could only get Stanton Moore......).If youre a local musician in the Columbia, SC area, you need to have a relationship w/ a local music store. Sims is it.
