Big inventory of trucks and equipment. Suggestion: the service attendant should stop rushing. Instructions were not given at time of renting. He was nice but lacked informing the customer about the next steps to take before using the truck.

My review strictly pertains to the quality of online service, and phone service. The U-haul online portal is for my account is littered with inaccuracies, and devoid of any simple way to correct them, without personally going into the location, which defeats the purpose of an online portal entirely. Furthermore, the online services RARELY work. I have been unable to make corrections to my account. Even more frustrating is that this is the second month that the auto pay feature has not worked, causing a fee to be charged to my account. Now Im subjected to a 45 minute wait time to get a straight answer as to why? The purpose of customer phone/website/portal service for U-hauls organization should be to make processes EASIER for customers, not increasingly more difficult.

I made a 10am reservation for a pick up truck and arrived at 10:45 to pick it up. I know I was late for my reservation but it didnt justify the way I was treated. It started friendly with the associate behind the counter but once he realized that they had already given my truck to someone else, he got the manager involved.From across the room, while he was helping another guest, the manager began yelling over to me about how they gave my truck to someone else and that they had a truck at 10am if I had been on time. He offered a van, but I had 14ft timbers to move and needed an open bed pick up truck. He reiterated that if I had been on time, I would have gotten my truck. I get it, I was late. If theres no truck and there isnt going to be a truck then just tell me and Ill be on my way. He instead, again, told me that they had a truck for me at 10am, lied to me saying they tried to call (no they didnt) and that since I was late. They gave it to another customer.I told him that I heard him the first three times he told me and that it wasnt necessary to keep rubbing it my face. He got up from his chair and got in my face only to once again tell me all about how they had a truck at 10am and since I didnt call...blah blah blah. The manager got out of his chair to rub my own sh*t in my face like I was some sort of dog that went potty on the carpet. I told him that this is no way to treat your customers.He then offered to help me find another pick up truck. Great! I thought, now were getting somewhere. I agreed and he proceeded to tell me to call the 1-800 number. I told him that telling me to call the 1-800 on my own isnt trying to help me. I decided then to walk out, but not before the manager told me one more time that if Id been there at 10am, then I would have had my truck.Maybe this manager was just having a bad day, hey that makes two of us, or maybe hes really just that big a pr*ck. Ill never know, because Im never giving that place my business again.

Truly awful. I had so many issues with my rental I dont even know where to begin. The worst part though, if you want to actually speak with someone at the location, you have to drive there yourself. Two people, on separate occasions, including the manager told me that they do not answer their phones. I have spent hours on hold, dont waste your time or money. First and last experience with U-Haul.

I had a reservation at another location that basically told me they didnt have a truck for my reservation that I booked a month in advance and told me sorry not sorry and gave me the 800 number. So we decided to take a chance and come to this location, not only did they have a truck for me on one of the busiest moving weekends in the city, they met me with a kind calm energy that I needed at that stressful moment. Charles was great, professional, and took great care of everything. Seriously saved the day!

Just make sure u lock whatever card u use after dealing with these scammers. They are never clear and will charge u 2 weeks after you’ve already payed . No warning nothing they pulled out 75.00 out of my account, thankfully I was able to dispute it with the bank. I returned the truck in the same condition they gave me, and filled the gas tank. They will charge you without even telling you what for. I would simply avoid these people or any large Haul store. I kept calling to ask for what reason did they charge me but they will keep you on hold until you give up. Horrible experience.

Arrived for a hitch installation service appointment that was scheduled online. Drove 30 minutes to location for appointment and learned that the hitch installer doesnt work that day. The desk lady seemed unapologetic and blamed the manager, Charles Spaulding, who does the scheduling. This place is terrible.

This facility was incredibly frustrating. I ordered 2 rolls of tape online to pick up. I waited in line for 5-10 minutes (wasnt accurately timing). During that time when only 1 person was working the counter, 4 different employees came inside and did not help. I hope they were busy helping someone else, although I didnt see anyone else. It shouldnt take SO long to pick up a simple order.

I made a reservation to get a 15 truck at this location months ago. The day before my move, I woke up to a voicemail from U-Haul saying they would not be able to honor my reservation. They said they would be happy to help me move my reservation to their Evanston location.... you know.... Evanston.... an entirely different city than Chicago. There are dozens and dozens of U-Haul locations in Chicago.I called them back to move my location because, well, what choice did I have? I waited on hold for about 10 minutes, then when I got through, no one answered and I got sent me to the back of the queue. 10 more minutes go by. I get through again, no one answers again, they send me to the back of the queue again.Side note: is anyone else like me in regards to the fact that once I start having a bad customer experience, I start rooting for it to get worse. Its weird, but there is something amusing about seeing just how incompetently a business is being run -- like I want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes.They answered on the 4th attempt, rats. The guy on the phone was perfectly pleasant and rebooked my reservation to the Evanston location after telling me there were no U-Hauls available anywhere in the city of Chicago. However, the damage had already been done by that point.

Amazing experience at Uhaul Kedzie, I had been running all over town looking for wiring for my car battery to hook up the lights on the rental trailer- they took care of it free of charge in no time at all. Best in class customer service, the GM of this location Charles raised the bar for me on what is a top notch experience. Rent equipment from nowhere else!

Was rushed and over charged by the dude in the morning. When I came back to have the tow dolly “assist” for an additional $20 shake down.. I presented my receipt to the girl that was now working. She compared it against my quote and also noticed that I was definitely over charged but could never really give me a clear answer on what or why.. seems odd for such a large business.. Lastly, the guy that “assisted” hooking up my car to the tow dolly, did a relatively good job explaining, so I thought. When I arrived at my first stop for gas I noticed that one of the tire straps had completely slipped off of the tire.. Queue mounting frustration. I paid these professionals extra to take care of this so I didn’t have to worry, but here I am in Indiana, on the ground at a truck stop, watching YouTube videos about how to load and unload my car from a tow dolly. The whole reason I got them to do it in the first place is because I have a hernia and am slightly physically restricted until surgery. Talk about bad experience! On top of all this, the 20’ truck that I rented was loud as hell and the transmission sounded awful. I’ve rented from U-Haul numerous times for short moves up to cross country moves. This was the worst experience by far. Pretty sure this location is just indicative of a bigger problem within the company - greed.

I am not one to often be critical, but truly the worst experience in customer experience ever. There was no explanation that a hitch had to be scheduled by appointment, and the only individual who does hitches was off that day and not scheduled to be back until Sunday, but they dont do hitches on Sundays according to the representative, so that really meant Monday. We ended up getting a different in-area vehicle only to find out later that the quoted total was wrong, it had to be brought back to the same location, and then when we asked to speak with a supervisor about the issues, my husband was cursed out and screamed to leave the store. It was extremely unprofessional and no resolution was received. We only went to this location in the entire Chicagoland area -- 50 MILES AWAY -- because we were told on the phone that this was the only one that had a hitch available for that week. Eventually, we spoke with the supervisor on the phone regarding his employees behavior on both occasions, and the only feedback was that it would be addressed. Considering some of the other reviews on here, I consider that unlikely. If I could give zero stars, I would. I usually only give 4 or 5 star reviews, but I feel it is important to share -- buyer beware.

I had a 10am appointment to get a hitch & bike rack installed today, 6/21/20. The store called me this morning at 7:40am asking to confirm my 8am appointment. I would never have scheduled an appointment at 8am on Sunday.I showed up at 9am and was told the bike rack ordered had not yet arrived and that the hitch would be done in two hours. I asked where I should wait and they said I could sit on boxes in the store.Two hours later my hitch installation had not started. I’m writing this review as I wait for over two hours after being rushed here in advance of my appointment. I still need to find a bike rack...I do not recommend this Uhaul store.

For how big this place is they need to be better staffed. Ive been having my belongings there for a little over 6 months and its always been a hassle to get my U Box or make appointments. The people that work there are very friendly and you will get good customer service but they are stretched thin and you end up waiting a long time for what you need. Theyre very un organized, they dont communicate with each other and with the stress of moving you want an establishment that will flow with your needs not add more pressure to your moving day.

I recently rented a 9’ Cargo Van to move all of my belongings into a new apartment, and upon visiting this U-Haul location to pick up my scheduled van, I was horrified by how awful the customer service was.The woman working behind the check-in counter was absolutely dreadful and very dismissive. When it came time for her to serve me, she began going through all the paperwork with me, and then she randomly walked away and left me stranded at the check-in counter with about 95% of the paperwork completed, when she decided to start serving another customer.After about 5 minutes of leaving me stranded, and nobody noticing, I stood in the check-in area and ultimately had to shout in order to get their attention so that I could complete the check-in process to get my rental van. Absolutely dreadful service. Would not recommend renting a vehicle from this location.They also refused to give me a Dolly, even though I paid for one and had one pre-ordered.

Been meaning to write this review for a few weeks. Renting a UHaul next week. My hitch wiring harness on my SUV. needed replaced. Quentin and Rodney ( hope I have their names correctly) were great. Informative, helpful, timely service. Went in thinking this will be a nightmare and ended up 30 minutes later walking out with better wiring installation then prior. Thanks Q and R.

I contemplated several locations and value google reviews. I believe this is 5 star location.Place was clean. Staff was helpful. I was given a free month of storage even though I didnt need it. When I couldnt find the truck I rented on lot by number, a staff person quickly assisted telling me to wait where I was and got it for me.I didnt wait longer than 10 minutes when I first arrived as well. I would recommend this location and will use again in future as my primary choice.

1. I called Uhaul to get three Uboxes. The woman kept asking me for my card info and said it wasnt going through, advised me to call back later (after 30 minutes of holding and 20 minutes with her). I called back, waited on hold for 20+ minutes to be told I had THREE reservations. Two were canceled.2. I was charged twice for the subpar movers Uhaul selected for me.3. I was told I would be given a two hour window thr night before the drop off. When I called to inquire I was told that was not how it worked. Someone else then called me to schedule a 2 hrs window.4. Eleven days later, my boxes appear to still be sitting in Chicago, for unclear reasons, as I am in Oregon and I was VERY clear when I made the reservation they needed to immediately be shipped to Salem, Oregon.5. Everytime I call Uhaul, I wait on hold for a minimum of 20-30 minutes.The only positive part of the experience was the woman who dropped the boxes off and picked them up. She was on point.

Ive rented from this location twice, and other locations a couple times. Its always the same old song and dance when renting with U-Haul- extra charges, wrong milage and gas levels on the initial agreement. Each time Ive rented Ive had to go back in to the facility and have the agreement changed to be whats actually accurate. I dont know if uhaul understaffed all their locations or exclusively hires incompetent people...Im guessing the latter

I recently started my own business and Angelica at this location made my first experience with U-Haul a really positive one. I needed a place I could store my inventory and she really went out of her way to help me. She helped me get the truck I needed for my first delivery and the storage space. I will say that the phone / operating system that U-haul as a company uses has major issues. Lack of communication between facilities or phone operators. Its honestly useless and causes confusion for everyone. It was quite obvious that the people operating the facility were doing the best they could with the system. But they would be much better off ditching the system and just hiring more people to answer the phones at the location. Just my personal experience and opinion.

DISHONEST Reservation Policy. Reserved online days ahead of time and they were happy to charge my credit card hundreds of dollars. Then they wait until the day before to call and tell you they dont have the truck you reserved. Go with u-haul if youd love to get a call like this the day before your moving day! My husband’s credit card was charged without permission and then they charged his brother too so my husband was supposed to get his money back and they didn’t want to give it back to him. The guy was extra rude and probably pocket the extra money. Don’t recommend at all unless you want to be charged twice and not refund you the extra charge thats not suppose to be charged.

Never thought a big company like U-Haul would act like a bunch of SCAM ARTISTS. According to them, I damaged the van I rented by scratching the side door even though I clearly dont recall this happening.So naturally, I tried to contest the damage fee, to no avail. I figured the least they could do was to show me proof that I was the one who scratched it or at least show me the damage.NOPE! Said they couldnt show me directly and that I had to talk to the insurance department or whatever. Call me crazy, but thats pretty damn sketchy right?Bottom line: dont ever trust this company and especially this location. They will rip off the people they think are most vulnerable and then act like they dont owe you any shred of evidence. SCREW YOU U-HAUL!

So apparently they dont have their s...together at all. Was told I could drop my car off yesterday over the phone to put a hitch on and it would be done by the eve. I get their and they are like nope we cant,you have to leave it over night and it will be ready by 10am the next day. I try to call and it goes to the main center and they say yeah it will be done by then. So I show up at 1030 to give a little extra time. Guess what,still not done and wont be for another hour. Now yet again I have to pay Uber to drive me back and fourth. I highly recommend not to go to this place!

What a miserable experience. I will definitely not order a U-Haul box ever again.uHaul representatives messed up my order several times and wouldnt deliver to my address in Chicago. They canceled my delivery THE NIGHT BEFORE, which ended up causing me to take off work and spending an extra $150 to transport my items. They also forgot about my POD and tried assigning it to another customer. Then the POD was damaged on arrival in Charlotte.

Horrible experience. I emptied my locker and told the employee at hand who said I was good to go. I proceed to be charged another month. After calling several times I was told that there were items in the storage unit(that I left empty) and that they have placed a lock and Im responsible for these things. The employee says there is nothing they can do and I would need to talk to the manager, who Im told will give me a call. Never receive a call, and the manager is unavailable every single time I call. After going in person to see the manager and told he is still not there I want the nightmare to end and I tell the employee I will pay for the unit just please sign me out. She says I need to remove all the things that SOMEONE ELSE put in there, and that she cannot show me the contents of the locker. My 24-hour access has also never worked, which made me lose my security deposit when I couldnt move my things into the unit past 7pm. Go anywhere else.

Staff was rude and unhelpful. Told us that every van and truck was rented while they had 25 vans and trucks on the lot. I simply went online and reserved a van at the same location and it was magically available. The kid behind the desk was more concerned with Facebook than helping me find a van. U-Box is a scam! DO NOT give your money to U-Haul to ship your things in a U-Box! Something is very wrong with an operation when no one at a location can pick up a phone to communicate with the customer, emails go into blackholes, no one in the call center seems to know what is going on at any time and will continue to transfer you to people who are extremely unhelpful, and— to really send it home, they will all blame each other for issues instead of just fixing the problem. There is no clear or correct communication regarding the U-Box process. After an endless, frustrating month of trying to get ahold of ANYONE who knew what was happening with my U-Box, I went to the Avondale location and was handled like a person who had made it all up. The manager issued me a partial refund for my issues (great!), I think to shut me up and placate me because I had to stand there and be an a**hole to get anyone to do anything. And then this morning I was charged another monthly rental fee by the location where the U-Box originated (U-Haul of Mile High City). The U-Box I used is sitting completely empty in the warehouse at the Avondale location— because I emptied it myself yesterday, the last day of the month I rented it for, and Im done with it. No information has been offered that there was something else I needed to do for this relationship to be terminated.The manager of the Avondale location is great at deescalating an angry customer, Ill give him that, but I had to raise my voice and tell him to stop talking and listen to me. He interrupted me several times to tell me it wasnt his or his locations fault. He blamed the call center. He kept saying there was no reservation made to have the U-Box unloaded at this location. Told me there was a way to schedule that online— there is not. I cannot locate ANYWHERE in my account or otherwise on the website where I would make that appointment. At the time that I made the reservation for a van so I could unload the U-Box on-site and move my things instead of dealing with delivery, I emailed the service email that I was having trouble reaching the Avondale location by phone and that I wanted to confirm my U-Box would be ready for the next day. Received an email back saying that they would reach out to the manager at the location with this information. When I arrived, it took an hour to get my U-Box out of the warehouse because no one knew I was coming and the manager told me that he did not receive notification from anyone that I was coming. Two people in the call center told me they would email management at the location and in the district to let them know about my issues, request confirmation that they had my U-Box, and set up a time to pick it up, yet he said he had received no communication from anyone that I was coming.When I played a voicemail from (manager of something?) Becky, saying that she was calling to help with my issue (who I could not later reach because her phones where being forwarded), his response was, Why didnt she just make the reservation for you then? I dont know dude, you tell me. This operation is broken, and set up to fail.The entire process of renting a U-Box has been so frustrating, I wish I had dumped all of my belongings in the Platte River and started from scratch when I got to Chicago. I will never give U-Haul my money or time again. I will use U-Pack/Home Depot/any creep I can find on Craigslist for any future move. I would rather spend a little more money for some peace of mind, and give it to a company that actually values its customers. Even Amtrak—AMTRAK, a company on its last leg with a dismal customer service reputation—did a better job of shipping my things across the country. For f*cks sake.

If you’re a truck driver picking up uboxes from here, take my advice and stay away. I’ve been waiting 5 hours out in the street in my truck to pickup 1 ubox and I’m still not even in the dock. They are very unorganized and have huge problems finding the uboxes in their warehouse, that’s what takes so long. Within those 5 hours they only loaded 2 trucks.

Kristian helped us out when Sunshine Movers to the south left us high and dry without a truck after scheduling more than two weeks in advance. He was courteous and found us a truck in time to meet our movers.

Rented a truck on 7/31 which then broke down due to a failed starter on 8/31. I waited 5hrs for a tow, and had to go get another uhaul at a different location as no one at this actual facility will every answer a phone call. it is now 8/1 and I have called over 10 times, get passed to a call center every time with no assistance from anyone. Pay a few extra bucks and rent from a better company.

I called 7/19 and was told by a woman that yes, a trailer hitch could be installed 7/20, drop off at 7am. I checked with my husband and he said we would, I called back and got a man - who, we learned on walking in the office, had change the appointment til the following week! I NEVER told him a different date. The people there claimed they could call the first person Id spoken to who had said 7/20 was available - its 7AM, of COURSE shes not going to answer her phone - plus what good would it do!? How hard is it to look at a computer screen and make sure it says the same DAY, NOTHING needed changing! Not even an apology as we walked out!
