I found out about this place from the chopping block. It did not disappoint! Chefs knife sharpened for $4 and bought a couple other baking items. The guys were super nice! I was in and out in 15 minutes.

Just got this sweet Victorinox Cleaver in the mail from Northwestern Cutlery! My first cleaver ever and getting ready to delve into more meat and bone cuisine! My order was fast and painless. I love Northwestern Cutlery! I moved out of Chicago and miss it so much! The best!

Brought several knives in for sharpening. While I could have waited, I had planned several other errands. At $4 a knife, well worth it. Included 2 10 chef knives, a boning knife, large butcher knife, paring knife and a slicing knife. Although I was taught how to sharpen when I started working in a meat market years ago, it would have taken me a lot longer to achieve the same result.

Oh!! I fell in love today. Such a beautiful store, the knives are amazing. Beyond belief. They even have a pocket steak knife with a carrying case. I thought their prices on cookware & baking goods were great! Super friendly staff, good vibe, nice layout, I love it. I am very happy they are in the neighborhood. I will be going again on Saturday to buy things for the kitchen.

While we miss having NWC in our neighborhood, the new store is bright and open - a real chefs playground. I took my honey there for hus birthday and what fun we had. Hes a talented home chef, whos developed a real appreciation for fine equipment.The staff is deeply knowledgeable and friendly, and especially helpful. We love it there.

I walked into the store this afternoon about 4PM, looking to purchase some items. My first time there, there was another Patron in the store, it seemed he was getting his knife sharpened by a gentleman who works there . Looked around and admired the array of culinary items they carry. All look like high end products. I was there maybe 10 minutes. No one greeted me or spoke to me the whole time I was there. I saw there was at least one other employee in the store as well but the employee did not seem to make an attempt to engage me. So I left. Hopefully this is not the customary or typical guest service they provide.

Went there with a friend to get his knives sharpened. The wait wasnt really that long. Their selection is really huge and the store is very nice.

I love this place, Ive been happily giving them my hard-earned money for over 15 years. They have everything you can think of and more. If youre not sure ask a lot of questions I have never been let down by the amount of knowledge they have for kitchen tools. Theres one thing that always stood out to me, when Im at the counter playing with kitchen knives and asking to touch nearly everything, no ones ever given me a hard time.

The customer service is wonderful. The store is moving from their old location in the West Loop to this location. The website said that orders may be delayed because of the move. After I placed my online order within 15 minutes I received a call from Brain letting me know that my order would not ship out for about a week because of the move. I all ready knew my order would be delayed but this is great customer service to take the time with a follow-up call to make sure I knew! Thanks Northwest Cutlery!

Service is quick and very well priced, was able to pick up my batch knives from a basic sharpening in 20 minutes. Theres also a parking lot which makes it very easy to stop by quickly if youre driving there. My only thoughts are that if you have specifics requests or concerns with how you want your knife to be sharpened, then to voice them. I had a knife that was was a single bevel knife and I should have voiced I needed to be stoned, but by default I just said sharpened and it was placed on the belt for a double bevel 50/50 sharpen.

There are many reasons this place is a go to spot for anyone in the culinary biz in Chicago. Just about anything a professional might want for the job. They do a great job sharpening knives and will do them by hand. The family based staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. We have bought knives for our son the chef from NC multiple times. This place has sharpened my knives for me since 1993. They recently moved but it didnt matter because no one sharpens knives like Northwestern Cutlery. Not to mention the show room of knives and great customer service.They even fixed my husbands picket knive I gave him as a gift

This place is rad. Im just an amateur cook on the less experienced side of things but thoroughly enjoyed browsing their collection. I visited to get a handful of knives sharpened ($4 a blade) which they were able to process within 15 minutes. Their knife collection is wowing; I went in to have a $2 thrift store chef knife sharpened but had a nice time drooling over their high end blades. The other cooking supplies are varied in price. Id definitely come back for their well priced no-nonsense basics including micro blades, measuring cups and more.

Awesome experience! I needed a special birthday gift, and found the perfect knife here. I worked with Eddie, and the other staff were patient and knowledgeable which helped me pick out a winner. I wasnt aware of how many other kitchen items were available there as well. As a result, a was presently surprised to find the perfect Ice Coffee Maker to compliment the other gifts. I highly recommend this store and its products.

Great little shop. I think culinary students and chefs shop here mostly. I just love to poke around and I always buy a couple cool knives. The vitronix, which they sell at 1/2 price, is the top recommended knife by Americas test kitchen.

This place is dangerous for your wallet -- so much great kitchen gear. And they do a fantastic job of knife sharpening, $4/knife! They do it properly, instead of just running it through one of those little machines that wrecks your blades.

They sharpened my knives here. Did a great job and i also managed to find a mandelin which was extra sharp it helps a lot to slice vegetables really thin and uniformed. They have a great variety of knives and kitchen wear. They have a parking lot too.

I love this hardware store. Its a little labyrinthian, but the payoff is that it carries almost everything under the sun. Amazing store. Staff were happy to help me select a new chef knife, and even pulled out a little cutting board so I could test them out. Recommendations and practical knowledge aplenty. Grat place. First the professional chef to the at home cook they have the cutlery for you and then some. They will put an edge on your knives that really are razor sharp. Their prices are excellent and they can do serrated edge knives also. I live over 10 miles away and will continue to go back every time. A deffenant must go to for your cutlery and quite a but of kitchen needs.

This is the only place I will take my knives to get sharpened. It was recommended to my by several local chefs and even an executive chef in the San Francisco Bay Area. For two years running now Ive taken my knives there to get sharpened, and Ive returned home with knives that I could shave with. On top of that, theyve got great prices on kitchen supplies and the people are great.If (heaven forbid) I ever move out of Chicago, Ill be mailing my knives back here to get sharpened.

Ive gotten knives sharpened here twice and they can make old knives seem brand new. They are so sharp it makes kitchen prep a lot faster and easier. They also have other kitchen gear for sale at reasonable prices, but knives are obviously their forté.

I dont take my kitchen knives anywhere else. Theyre inexpensive but very knowledgeable and even large sets of knife orders get done very quickly.

An excellent store for all sorts of kitchen needs. On the small side, so they dont have essentials like paper towels or disposable containers, but their selection of high end knives is top notch and they have 6 different kinds of ice scoops and plenty of different sizes of tweezers if you want to work at the fancy restaurants down the street. Plenty of barware too; more of a professionals store than a consumer outlet.
