New favorite spot in Lincoln park!! The soft serve there tastes amazing. I loved both of their matcha flavor and chocolate flavor. The Ube was such an interesting filling too. This place is definitely a hidden gem. I can’t wait to go back there again to try other flavors!

I highly recommend. Great service and very polite. The soft serve ice cream is non dairy, so it’s great if you are lactose intolerant or just on a non dairy diet. The taiyaki or fish shaped cake cone is soooo delicious! I would even eat the cake alone!

Really enjoyed my Taiyaki. Matcha could have been just a tad bit sweeter and the Taiyaki was missing a little Nutella at the tail. Apart from that, really tasty!

Tastes like the ice cream had so much sugar and the lemonade theater lemonade and the chocolate shake tastes like sewage water. The taiyaki tastes like dough like not how its supposed to taste and the ice cream makes my stomach hurt so bad. The staff made a face of disgue when we walked in.

Highly recommend. Takes a few minutes to prepare because the Taiyaki cone is baked fresh but the end result was delicious! Really appreciated that their soft serve was completely dairy free too!

Amazing ice cream and boba

Came in with friends to close out the night with a delicious and unique dessert.I went with the red bean filling, matcha soft serve, and condensed milk and wafer straw topping but there are a lot of delicious combos to try.

This place is amazing its just amazing I cant even explain it you need to go there to experience it its like eating a cookie and a cake and ice cream in one its amazing also you should really try the peanut butter inside the fish waffle item its amazing did I mention it was amazing only downside not really anywhere to sit kind of small maybe better to eat while you walk down the street but bring napkins

So glad to have a taiyaki place in Lincoln Park! The milk tea soft serve was great (Ive also had the matcha soft serve before, which was good, too!), and the taiyaki is soft and sweet. Cant wait to see what their flavor of the month is next. We were welcomed into the store by the super friendly Layani :)

Best Taiyaki in Chicago! Layy is the sweetest. She is patient and helps explain the menu. Highly recommend going to see her and try this delicious soft serve.

Really quick and super yummy! The red bean filling is good, but just know its actual beans and not a bean paste! Really good.

One of the few places where I can get my non-dairy fix; and it’s SO good. Presentation is on point and Lany gives great customer service! 10/10 recommend.

Went here probably over 10 times, also recommended a lot of friends to go. But today that I went to ordered Ube filling, turned out there wasn’t any filling in there and Matcha ice cream was sour, probably mass premade. They agreed to refund it but still a bit disappointed.

Great small business that is dairy free, soy based ice cream in a yummy warm fish cake (Taiyaki) with a filling of choice! So delicious and very refreshing!

Taiyaki was moist, warm and pleasant tasting but do not expect the appearance nor taste to be consistent- I ordered 4 and one was perfect yet the other 3 were subpar. If this had not been the case I definitely would’ve given 5 stars for their Taiyaki. Their ice cream was decent but not amazing- however that could be because it’s dairy free.

Great little spot with delicious food. The shop was small, with about 2/3s of the space being taken up by the counter. There was a cute wall for photos and an outdoor seating area. I ordered the ube taiyaki with vanilla soft serve. The taiyaki was savory and warm (they make it when you order it), and it played nicely with the cool sweetness of the ice cream. They also offer tea and milk smoothies (with optional boba) for those who arent a fan of ice cream.Bonus points: All the ice cream is dairy free

The soft serve ice cream is dairy free which is a nice plus for our lactose intolerant friends. The taiyaki is simply delicious and together with the ice cream, its a wonderful match! Highly recommend coming here!

We were helped by a very kind worker. She informed us it would be a wait, but wow it was worth it! The ice cream with a fish shaped cone was both fun and delicious! Its a smaller store but they provide good seating for eating your ice cream because boy is it messy. They also have delicious smoothies and various teas including bubble tea.

This place is so good! I’ve been here at least 4 times now, and it’s probably one of my fave dessert places in the city. Got the taiyaki with taro and red bean last night and wow...taiyaki has the perfect crispy outer texture with a pillowy soft inside. Taro ice cream was delicious as was the red bean and toppings. People there were super nice too. Already can’t wait to go back...

What can I possibly say except always get the flavor of the day! They always recommend an excellent flavor, but the fish waffle or taiyaki is my favorite part!! The staff are sooo friendly here, Ive never seen them upset in any way! Come here for a refreshing treat!

Patience pays, especially at Taiyaki Chicago. The short five minute wait was well worth the great soft serve and the incredible taiyaki fish - served hot enough that its still warm when you get to it.Add in the filling of your choice and the fact that this experience is one of a kind in Chicago, and youve got the makings of an ice cream experience that stays with you well after you leave.

Traditional Taiyaki, what more do you need? I love this shop, the only thing its missing is the custard filling option. That was my go-to choice when I lived in Japan. Taiyaki Chicago takes me back to climbing mountains in the Japanese countryside, getting nice warm taiyaki from a local obaasans little shop (just missing the custard option, have I mentioned that yet?). Big thanks to Lany and the rest of the crew for being awesome every time I visit!

How delightful to have a place that makes fresh, warm taiyaki! Expect at least a five minute wait for your dish because they make them as soon as you order them. If youre not up for taiyaki on ice cream you can order just the taiyaki. The ice cream is very sweet, I recommend the matcha ice cream if youre not as into sweet flavors. The mochi topping is adorable and delicious. I wish there was more seating but its easy to walk with. They also have a ton of delicious bobba tea, fresh fruit smoothies, and milkshakes with unique flavors like Taro. Highly recommend.

So happy there’s finally a Taiyaki place in the city!! I hope it sticks around. The decor is remanent of the froyo place that used to be here but hopefully with time they can grow their own space. It takes a bit for the ice cream because the fish are fresh baked but the employees warn you it can be 5-10 and it was no more than that even with the store being busy! You get a large serving that you could easily share. Because it’s vegan ice cream, I felt the vanilla tasted somewhat artificial. And the Taiyaki fish itself was very doughy around the tail, it was a little much but the whole experience and novelty of it all was worth the cost. It’s not my favorite ice cream place but it’s an awesome vegan option and a great chance to experience Japanese Taiyaki. :)

The ice cream is dairy free and its really good for none dairy ice cream but this is not an ice cream shop. The star of the show is in the name of the store. Too many one stars are reviewing this place as an ice cream place which it is not. The ice cream taiyakis are still really good non dairy ice cream. The gritty texture comes with the dairy free territory. Get two filled taiyakis for the same price. Its absolutely amazing.

I wanted to love this place, but the reason i gave it a 3 star is because i believe they should have a better system with their orders.Instead of calling out the flavors, it’s better to have an organization like a number to call out so not everyone would be confused who’s order is which..I came in at a busy time and some customers, including myself had their orders skipped or messed up (I ordered redbean filling w/taro ice cream & wafer sticks and they gave me a Nutella filling instead)Not saying it’s the worst, but it’s not the best either though that doesn’t mean i won’t give it another shot.. i just hope the next time i come back or in the future for others, they have a better system of how the order goes:)taiyaki was still good. just the system was eh

Ordered a cone with no toppings but received a cup with a soggy fish cone on the side. Still got charged $7 and change.Customer service is poor. They arrive when the door chimes, disappear to make the order, and disappear again after giving it to you. The offer no explanation what type of milk they use as it is labelled vegan.They use the old ice cream machines from the frozen self serve yogurt place from before. Flavors arent flavorful.

Amazing service!! the taiyaki is served fresh! i tried the red bean, vanilla icecream, wafer roll, and sprinkles! first time havung soft serve and it was great! not too overly sweet or bland and its dairy free! we also had the peach yakult with tapioca balls and the tiger boba! tiger boba was amazing and served in a cute cup. would go again but its sadly an hour and thirty minute drive. WORTH IT!

Not a fan to it. Soft server texture feel not creamy and as smooth. We ordered the green tea, green tea taste is good, but a little too sweet to us, shouldnt add the condensed milk as topping. The drinks ordered are not good neither. Either not sweet enough or doesnt have enough taste. 1 thing is the fish cake so special

We came with a Groupon deal - I lived in Japan a long time ago, and taiyaki aint easy to find over here! Though the taiyaki itself was crispy and delicious (chunky red bean filling 💖), the soft-serve wasnt very good... the matcha flavor was overpowering, and its not at all creamy. (Its non-dairy, so maybe TOO low fat?) Id probably get a tea next time... Id like to see this small business stick around, so I will try again.

The signiture offering is their exotic themed cones that are freshly grilled into fish shaped waffles. They are delicious by themselves having a crunchy and sweet exterior with a chewy and milky interior. Combine this delectible treat with your choice of filling, soft serve and topping and you end up with a generous sized Japanese inspired trend suitable for the Americans palate.If youre not in the mood for a cone, Taiyaki also offers cup sizes portions with the same options of fillings and toppings. Bubble teas and many of the other commonly seen Asian fruit juice blends with tapioca and other textured additives.Overall checking out this place is a must. There is nothing bad to say about Taiyaki. I think you will be satisfied with your experience and I hope the next time you family are in the mood for something sweet you give Taiyaki Chicago a try.

The place is good and the taiyakis are made quickly. Got the nutella base with matcha ice cream. Matcha ice cream had no taste, at all...very bland. The nutella was ALL the way at the bottom and I barely enjoyed it. The cone itself was great, the taiyaki waffle is fluffy and good.

1st time I had it. I really really liked it. The best part is that they have dairy free soft servings. Go and give it a try.

It is not what i expected at all. 1. It took 5 minutes to bake the cone part( Taiyaki) I was the only customer there. 2. Ice cream melted right away 3. Too much filling made the whole thing sluggish and too too sweet.. 4. Ice cream itself was low quality ice cream ... overall..wont visit again.toosweet.

I cant think of a single positive thing to say about this place. Its service and staff are horrible. They were incredibly slow to bake soft serve ice cream for 10 minutes and then dropped it on the floor. They should give more thought to how they serve customers - better yet, give more thought to a business model that requires 10 minutes of bake time for ice cream.

They make the taiyaki to order so it’s hot and fresh, so be patient!!! Good concept and good ice cream (not too rich or too sweet) but the taiyaki was very doughy. The bottom half of the taiyaki was like all dough. Wished it was more of a hollow shell for the filling and ice cream

Pleasantly surprised by this new dessert store. The staff is incredibly friendly. The non-dairy ice cream flavors taste delious and isnt too sweet. The toppings and fish waffle make for the perfect picture.

Friendly staff, but slow to serve. And after 25 mins of waiting the ice cream wasn’t very delicious. The fish cone was pretty delicious hence the rating. I gave one for the cone and one for friendly staff. That’s unfortunately not enough to bring us back. We’ve tried much better in NYC.

So good! Everyone needs to go. I was surprised to see that all of their ice cream is vegan. Pretty awesome. All of their drinks can be made vegan as well. They have lots of non-dairy milk options.

Best Ice cream

I would very much like to review this place properly, but that does not seem to be likely to happen. It seems to have been closed for the past 3 weeks with the same hand-written note in the window saying that their Taiyaki presses are being cleaned. The management should update their hours until they are actually reopened.
