I went about 7:30 am and drove past it. There wasnt much lighting directed towards the street so it looked closed. Inside it was a cozy coffee shop with several pastries and coffee options. The staff was nice and worked together to prepare my order quickly. The cinnamon roll that I had was a little dry but tasty. My cappuccino was the perfect temperature and delicious.
In town visiting and exploring and needed a good cup of coffee to start the day. This place had some mixed reviews but figured we would give it a try. We got a regular drip coffee and a variation of an ice mocha. We also got a egg, bacon, cheese biscuit breakfast sandwhich. The Sandwhich was good the coffee was decent and there were plenty of tasty baked goods as well. The staff weren’t particularly pleasant and were indifferent. The location is good the atmosphere and decor are great the staff may just need some tuning.
Parking: plenty of street parking all along the block.Coffee: fast, delicious, big-city prices (my double dirty chai latte was $6.50.)Pastries: surprisingly affordable. Great selection, made in house.Service: fantastic. Friendly and diverse in appearance. Very welcoming.Physical shop: beautiful chic industrial with exposed brick. Classic bay windows with a couple outdoor seats by the main entrance and a full patio on the side.Perks: bathrooms and FAST Internet. A great place to perch and work, or back up your photos and download an iOS update!Overall: A+, will be back.
Okay, so I see this as a good coffee recommendation from Google Maps, and you know what? It’s a not too shabby stop to go to! The coffee is pretty average for flavors and the atmosphere is pretty cozy. There are plenty of pastry delight options as well to choose from, and the baristas were pretty nice. 8/10, not bad, not bad at all.
Amazing food!! The biscuit is a must. Husband overhead someone saying great things and we both got the breakfast sandwich. Did not disappoint. Fall apart biscuit, but so good!!! Great drink options as well!
Beautiful aesthetic and relaxing vibe.Exceptional helpfulness from staff when my child asked for an additional order of milk and they just got some for him. ♥️Horchata Steamer alone is worth the visit. I love that the homemade granola was beautiful, filling and included healthful protein rich seeds. The biscuit sandwich was hearty, homemade and authentic. Delicious!Even the muffin had fabulous crumb and excellent flavor balance! The whole family was happy with their orders and i *love* finding businesses like this. They deserve the all the success!
This was a great coffee and breakfast find while we were in town for a wedding. Excellent food and delicious coffee. Great outdoor seating.
Probably my 2nd favorite place to pickup to deliver to customers because of the atmosphere. The food is always good and they are always timely to have the order ready. If you kinda just want to relax this is the café to go to.
This really is a five star place but…the staff and their lack of friendliness knocked my rating down. The food really is 99/100. Can’t go wrong with the biscuit piled high with fluffy scrambled eggs, cheese and a sausage patty or the breakfast plate with cheese grits and sweet strawberry jam. Do yourself a favor and be sure to get a cinnamon roll too! Maybe this was just an off day or the guys next gals working today missed customer service 101 training. The food would alone would bring me back so we’ll see in the future.
Went this morning for my first visit. Ordered a cinnamon roll and a Chai tea latte. The cinnamon roll was so hard it broke the plastic fork I was given. After one bite I tossed it. The drink was ok but very watered down. Staff was friendly but thats about it. Wont be back.
Mean mug, but kind and down to earth people with lovely coffee and tea drinks, satisfying food items (many veg friendly with tofu or veg sausage), as well as beautiful neighborhood vibe. I came here almost every day during 4 night stay at the Kinley hotel nearby. Never disappointed, and was served quickly & gracefully.
A quick Google search for quick eats in Chattanooga brought us to Mean Mug Coffeehouse on our way from Birmingham to Knoxville. We had a 10/10 experience! Grabbed two yummy sandwiches and some drip coffee to-go, were met with quick and friendly service, and experienced a neat local neighborhood. Be sure to add the avocado mash to anything you order! We will definitely plan to stop by again anytime we are passing through.
Picked it based on the name. Its a good name. Luckily their good name also has good coffee and good food and lovely people.
Stopped in this morning after seeing reviews. Cashier must have been new didn’t k ow what type of coffee roast they had and instead of the pumpkin spice latte I ordered ended up with a mediocre plain latte. Pastries and cinnamon rolls in display case looked unappealing do we passed on those. Baristas pretty unfriendly. Overall would recommend trying someplace else in Chattanooga, this was a bust.
Love this place! Traveling through and find them to be delicious, reasonably priced, and friendly service. Im happy and full.
Ive never seen a more inefficient workforce. Line out the door, 6 people on the front line (I dont know how many in the back), 3 of them doing nothing but chatting at the register. Called in food, waited 30 minutes... Then got there and waited another 55 minutes! Talked to the workers when I got there and somehow they lost my ticket in between that time of me going up to ask what was up. Because I saw a few people who walked in while I was waiting already get theirs after ordering. The only thing ready when I got there was the coffee for my wife at home. That makes sense. So obviously that was cold by the time anything was ready. No apology from a single staff member. What a perfect Sunday! I normally dont write reviews this long but what else can I do while waiting for this food that hopefully at least tastes good. What an awful experience. Also side note Ive worked the food industry for years so Im not just complaining to complain. Service was 0 stars.
I really wanted to like this place… it’s was super cute! The staff seemed annoyed and judgmental. Then the cinnamon roll had a hair in it and the coffee was bad. We didn’t complain just left and went to Milk & Honey were everything there was amazing.
Got the curry bowl with tofu scramble & it was perfect. Great service. Dog friendly patio. Coffee is great too. Many vegan and vegetarian options.
One of my favorite indie coffee shops.
Great place and food was good. Only draw back is all the tables were taken by people on their laptops. Sucks sitting outside in 95° weather trying to eat.
I love Mean Mug! Its my favorite coffee place in Chattanooga and they have the best cinnamon rolls that Ive ever had (outside of my Moms.) Their drinks are always good and their menu is really fresh and tasty. My favorite is the smoked salmon bagel. I tried their homemade yogurt and granola this morning and it was great too.
Some of the best coffee shop breakfast food around! The portions are actually enough for a whole meal, and taste so good and homemade. Coffee is pretty good too. My one and only complaint is that the food does seem to take a long time to prepare. I would love to, but I just don’t usually have time to go here on a lunch break, for example. I think they offer order-ahead though, so that’s something to consider!
Mean coffee with exceptional southern hospitality!!! This is a great team of folks and I would highly recommend you try this place! They want customers to be pleased. Thank yall so much!
Great spot to hang out and study and sip on fair trade/organic coffee. Staff is so friendly and accommodating.
I was here about 2 years ago and I loved coming here in the mornings before worked because I lived almost right beside it. Very friendly staff however there used to be this lady who went there with a menacing looking baby in a stroller. She was about a year old I supposed and this lady would go around with her scary spawn and it would frighten me. Not only that but the child appeared to be throwing up what I could only describe as gang signs and singing violent 90s hip hop. I guess she quit coming to the store thank god. I moved a year ago but still go occasionally when im in town visiting my friends and family.
Mean mug actually has one of the best Matcha makers in the state of Tennessee, so dont miss out on that..
Great energy and amazing staff! Espresso tastes fresh and delicious, food was incredible. Overall a perfect pick for breakfast!
This coffee shop was so cute! the drinks were great. will definitely be back!
The food (especially biscuit) is delicious and you can’t go wrong with any of the coffee choices.
This is such a great coffee shop, it really is. Any time I am in Chattanooga I make sure to get my coffee and breakfast here. It’s true there are lots of cool places to eat in Chattanooga but I really think Mean Mug stands out the most
My Husband to be and I met our wedding photographer here and I happened to ask Monica if she does wedding cakes. She made six cupcakes to taste, two chocolate ganache, two chocolate and buttercream, two orange and vanilla. They were lovely and I ordered a simple buttercream chocolate cake, which was above and beyond my expectations. This was in 2012, so I doubt this is standard. You know the practice of taking the cake and freezing it? I did this with half the cake in new, glass Tupperware. A year and a half later, my husband woke up with a craving for sweet in the night and ended up eating the cake. He said that it was still delicious! Thank you again, Mean Mug and Monica!
Great coffee, food, and atmosphere! Me and my friend came by for a quick breakfast and, though the place was packed, we got everything sorted out quickly and were in and out in just a few minutes. I had a hot chocolate and a caprese sandwich with bacon and spinach, and for $9.50 it was pretty good, especially for a local place in Southside. I hope to return again soon!
Must must visit for breakfast/coffee and lunch! The scones and breads and pastries are all fresh and incredible, the breakfast/egg sandwiches and steel cut oats are amazing, the coffee is wonderful, and the lunch options are all fantastic — especially “The Trap” turkey sandwich on focaccia and the red quinoa power bowl. The prices are great, there’s plenty of seating indoor and out on the cute patio, service is fast, and there are good restrooms. Couldn’t recommend more highly!
Lovely unique menu with fun specials and good quality coffee. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating!
Once ordered the peanutbutter lobster coffee but when I received the drink it was nothing like what I ordered. Im from Anchorage and I love peanutbutter lobster coffee so I guess im a bit more sensitive to its taste but I think they could definitely do better in that regards! Overall good place with good young staff
Cool place. Get the oatmeal with every add on!! 😋
Cannot tell much. Food and coffee were good, but we ordered takeout. For the amount of time that we spent waiting for the order - about 10 minutes - you cant really feel the vibe. I liked the interior of the place - very tasteful and artistic.
Pretty decent. Not a perfect mocha, little on the stiff side (but some like a long pull). Pseudo-hipster-ish, but would I go back? Yeah, the batistas are super friendly & they have parking around back. Good job Mean Mug.
I stopped in while driving through Chattanooga on a road trip. I got the Golden Latte (turmeric, honey, cinnamon and some things I’m forgetting) and the “I can’t believe it’s not pasta” (pictured). It was all amazing. I was incredibly stoked because most coffee places only serve carb-filled snacks, even the fruit. The dish I got is literally something I would make for myself at home and it was every bit as good.
Beautiful and peaceful patio where we could enjoy coffee with our dog, DELICIOUS and very affordable food (seriously, nothing on the menu is over 8 bucks!), very fast and friendly staff, and great coffee. This will be our go-to spot whenever we visit Chattanooga again. Thanks mean mug!
Simply superp place for coffee lovers. We enjoyed their breakfast too
Delicious lattes and breakfast. The avocado toast is so delicious and the egg was perfectly cooked.
Yummmmmmmm! Food and coffee is sooo gooood!
Pleasant staff and clean restaurant. Most people were sitting outside since it was one of the first nice days of the year. Patrons and staff were covid considerate. We went for thier bagel and lox which is very good. They dont use cream cheese on the bagel and lox, but to be honest, it tastes really good.
Consistent quality. Great vibe and decor pair well with the many options of caffeine and breakfast items. Dont miss this gem while visiting gigcity!
The food, staff, and coffee drinks q are all amazing! I get whole roasted beans to bring home and theyre always beautifully roasted and delicious.
Great service and breakfast. The grits and hummus toast were fantastic! Thanks for a great experience!
A quick walk on the Southside. Good music and the food was great
Fantastic coffee but the service is slow and the staff are kinda rude.
The best avocado toast, served by the friendliest folks, with the best coffee and coolest vibes in Chattanooga
Stopped by here before leaving Chattanooga. Great hole in the wall feel. Impressed with their menu. Portions are likely more than you think which is great!
I really like their coffee, but unless I order ahead of time, I am not a fan of going here. Service can be pretty slow. Having worked in a coffee shop before, their process behind the counter needs some work. But otherwise, really like the taste of food and coffee!
It takes skill to wow me in the coffee department. Im not easy impressed. We came here at the recommendation of a local as they were one of the only shops with coffee in town due to a water supply issue. I ordered an iced coffee to go. Took one sip and fell in love. They really put effort into their roasts and anytime Im in Chatanooga Ill be back for more!!!!
We really enjoyed mean mug! The coffee was great and the Salmon bagel was delicious! My husband had the avocado toast it was different than every other avocado toast we’d had before but it was really good!
Great Coffee. Great Staff. Great Atmosphere. Ill definitely be back the next time I come to Chattanooga!
My husband and I drove up from Tampa, Florida for a 3 day stay. Our hotel was very close to here so we ended up coming here twice. Both times we had great service, fantastic coffee, and a delicious breakfast. The atmosphere of this place was comfortable and not overly loud. The patrons were all socializing within covid guidelines and everyone wore a mask unless eating or drinking.I definitely recommend this place for coffee and a great breakfast that doesnt break the bank and keeps you full for a long time.
Love this place. The outdoor area is super cute
They make a most wonderful hot chocolate, excited to try the pastries later
Breakfast very tasty, good costumer service and clean place, super recommend!
Great espresso. Very welcoming and dog friendly.
The staff was extremely friendly and the service was fast and spot on! Highly recommend you check this place out!
Cant get enough of their amazing food and delicious drinks that are helping us get through the chilly, rainy winter months. So thankful to have such a great local coffee shop in town and thankful for your two locations (Southside and Northshore)!!! If youre wondering what to order, we love their dirty chai latte, honey steamer, golden latte, egg and avocado toast, red quinoa power bowl, and their toasted trap sandwich with avo smash. Yum!!
Great coffee and great food, at a very decent price
Cute place. Healthy food options and I loved their activited charcoal latte. Highly recommend.
