WOW. Fantastic customer service!! I walked into this place slightly after close because some other customers were inside and there were a few different signs up for their hours on the door so I wasn’t sure. They told me to come in even though it was closed. I ordered a pumpkin spice latte with oat milk only to grab for my wallet and discover it was gone. I was panicking trying to retrace my steps in my mind. All the while frazzled and repeatedly apologizing to the barista (red haired guy with beard) that I had no way to pay for it. This guy was legit so nice he went on making the latte for me and was so positive and encouraging that I would find my wallet. Not only was the latte awesome, I did end up finding my wallet. I will def be going back next time I’m in the area and paying it forward to someone else! Thank you Open Eye Café for being so much more than a coffee shop but truly a light in the community!

My favorite place in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area!! This is for sure the best coffee shop around. The atmosphere is everything I want in a coffee shop: welcoming, warm, cozy, artsy, creative, humming with the hubbub of good people...I adore the variety of seats and tables and, even though it saddened me when I that option went away (for good reason and community safety during the pandemic), their outdoor patio was a perfectly lovely option. Ive only gotten lattes bc Im a creature of habit, but I can confidently say the lattes are amazing--so smooth and tasty and always a great temperature! Also the logo for Open Eye is so beautiful

Quite an awful experience. The WiFi was spotty at best, it took forever to get our coffee, asked for lite ice, half the volume of the cup was ice, asked for water, never got that, spent 5 times as much money for basically the same amount and quality (maybe worst) of coffee you’d get at Dunkin. I understand they seemed busy and they were very friendly which makes me feel bad with this review, and the vibe was somewhat nice. Even if the service and WiFi was good, I don’t see myself ever wanting to come back for the watery coffee. But yeah, avoid this place unless you wanna ruin your day.

Open Eye is one of my favorite coffee shops in the Carrboro / Chapel Hill area. I come here a lot to study and do work. Though it is often very busy, I usually find an open table. There are also a couple of side rooms that are popular for those trying to study. The staff is very friendly and the coffee is great. There’s also a large outdoor area in the back (in addition to the tables in the front). Highly recommend Open Eye!

Totally awesome coffee! Order and pay on their website and they’ll bring it to your car in the parking lot! Great alternative to a drive-thru, because you can turn your car off while you wait. Also great for when your baby’s asleep in the car. I’ve only had better coffee at home. This place is the best. Quit reading reviews and go here. 😉

I ordered an iced latte and I have to say, the coffee was absolutely phenomenal. Ive had my fair share of bad coffee and bad lattes, and this was not one of them! The back patio was absolutely adorable, and its lovely that this place has lots of outside seating as the inside is closed due to Covid. This being said, the prices were astronomical. I was honestly shocked. Expect to drop 6 or 7 dollars where you would normally drop 4.5.

I love open eye.i wish they understood that water for black tea actually has to be really hot. a full steep from Open Eye barely tastes of tea.You have good tea leaves! Use them well. A warm cup doesnt actually make up for not having real tea in it. Use hotter water, warm the teapot, use a tea cozy.

This was the WORST coffeeshop experience I have ever had! First of all, its super overpriced. $5 for a regular latte? Are you kidding me? And then an extra dollar for the extra syrup? I have never paid that much for a regular coffee. And it was not even AMAZING coffee, it was starbucks-like coffee that you could get for way cheaper. The customer service was not good either. We asked for light ice, and the coffees came with 90% ice in the cup. We also asked for some water and they forgot to give us any water. The WiFi did not work at all, so we could not even study there. Very unpleasant experience! Would not recommend going there!

I always make it a point to visit independent coffee shops when I travel, since coffee makes up a big part of my life, and Open Eye was quirky, hipster, and typical “college town” cafe. What I didn’t expect was how rich and tasty the coffee would be! Whatever they do with those beans, they do well and they clearly take pride in it because their coffee is TO DIE FOR

Good little local coffee shop. Great coffees, pastries and food. My only real gripe are the Covid procedures, one day, one Barista says one thing and the next day another Barista says another, asking you to either come closer or back away from the register which some mornings makes me feel like Im dancing just to grab a cup of joe. So some consistency in the distancing rules would be appreciated.

I keep wanting to like this place, but theres always something off. The customer service is unfriendly and their theyre insanely expensive. As a warning, their large cappuccino is tiny (not the same size as a large coffee like most places) and still costs more than it would at most bougie coffee shops. I also dont recommend getting to-go drinks as their kids dont really fit well. Im sure its ok if you stay there, but Im pretty j impressed

A good, serviceable place with a good location. The couches for seating are a little dirty, but the coffee is pretty good. Ive been maybe 15 times or so. Service is alright -- most employees are friendly but a few of them are really terse with me and seem annoyed for whatever reason. Not the best in the Chapel Hill area, but pretty solid for the money. 3.5 stars on a night with musical guests/open mic, 3 stars on a normal day.

Nice coffee shop with good quality menu selection. I got a doppio and my S/O got a dirty chai latte. Both were good, unique flavor notes on each. Espresso was crisp, tangy, and full of flavor. Not something to deduct a star, but the acoustics inside were a bit ear-gouging with the large crowd. So if youve got some sound sensitivities, head out to their outdoor patio for a quiet, relaxed sitting area.

Open Eye is great place to go if you want to feel hip and seen in town. Its not a great place for decent tasting coffee, amiable service, or finding a seat easily. Open Eye has the classic eclectic and crunchy coffee shop decor with varied seating options, though most times of day it will be crowded with folks who are plugged in and stationary. When you order the staff will be sure to make you feel inferior. By the time you get your drink, youre likely to have to hover around for a while to scope a spot. While you wait for that seat, you can sip your mediocre tasting coffee and regret your choice of coffee shop. There are better options in town, and yes I do still end up going here sometimes, to drink tea and, well, it kinda does feel alright to be in the mesh of Carrboro society occasionally.
