I tried calling about a repair a number of times multiple days in a row without any answer. I then decided to drive to talk in person as it didn’t seem like they took calls. When I arrived there was a sign that said “Back in 5 Minutes” I waited 25 minutes with no one in sight. These people make it really hard to get help

What a waste of time going to this shop. I believe it had its best times 15 years ago. The shop has almost no new products. The owner is not up to date.

Had a good time having two awesome amplifiers repaired here. The man was nice, the service was much quicker than I expected, and the items are well repaired. I havent had many repairs done but the prices seem middle-of-the-road. A repair for an expensive piece can be well worth it, older technology may cost more than it is worth to sell.

Audio Lab is an institution and should be protected at all costs. It’s one of the last thing left that once made Harvard sq, Harvard sq. Mike has been working there forever and he’s the best.

Been in there to buy or service stereo equipment maybe a dozen times in 35 years, leaving my audio heart in their hands. Michael is a great guy and very low key. Hope hes there another 35!

I called the store and Mike answered. I asked him if he had a cartridge with stylus for 100 bucks or less and he recommended one that would fit my turntable. Nice guy in person once I went in to buy it. He told me about downloadable protractors and so I did, and the cartridge sounds amazing after I installed it. Great experience. Will make this my go to place for my turntable equipment. Thanks Mike.

Have to concur with previous negative reviews. Called up and owner was quite rude - actually cursed on the phone! Insisted I should pay for a complete overhaul on my table ($150). Claimed it would be restored to factory condition. Should have known then there would be issues, but I brought in my turntable. After picking it up, was surprised to find that basic functions were jammed. Had to bring it back multiple times before issues were fixed. Got the very strong sense the mechanic(s) either didnt know how to fix basic issues or didnt take pride in doing the job correctly. Was a big disappointment for me after reading many good reviews on online forums.

Highly recommended. Competitive prices and very helpful. I bought a pair of Audeze headphones from Audio Lab, which sounded fantastic, but I had to return as they were too uncomfortable for long duration listening for me. No hassles returning at all, and I was even given suggestions with different pairs to try. Im sure some other stores would have had an attitude; none here.No pressure sales and a nice listening room where you can take your time an audition equipment your interested in. I will definitely be back.

I have been shopping and browsing at the Audio Lab for decades. It is a rare commodity now, a store about music and gear that satisfies mid and hi end fantasies. I have purchased used gear and headphones for friends and told others to take advantage of this place. His recommendations and sales have impressed and pleased them for years. Thank you.

The guys there are super knowledgable, and also laid back. No pressure, no impatience with me for not knowing my audio stuff very well. Took everything I said into account, then made very good suggestions. Best audio shop Ive ever set foot in.

FYI this place is currently closed, has been for about a month according to the record store clerks next door. They expect it to reopen but they don’t know when, they said the owner is ill.

Went in looking for a pair of Bluetooth over ear headphones. Worked with my budget and ended up getting a great pair of headphones after trying out several different brands. Still extremely satisfied with my purchase 1 month later and will return for my next pair.

Its a classic Harvard Square institution of the sort which have been diminishing in the past couple decades, and theres a reason for that - Audio Lab has been there for ages, and deserves its high reputation in the analog audio world of Boston. You wont find anyone more knowledgeable or experienced than these folks. These are the true experts you should consult for serious questions on the subject. They run the gamut, selling both new and used equipment from high end to low end and also repairing all of the above on site as well. I strongly recommend this place, and indeed have been recommended it by a lot of local record store owners and the like. You wont do better in the Cambridge area especially for repairs. This is the place.

I agree with the negative comments. I just called them to ask if they would look into finding out whats wrong with my subwoofer from Polk Audio. What an ass the guy was! He told me to send it to Polk Audio. I told him its a discontinued item. He replied Im not going to spend hours figuring out whats wrong if its discontinued. Even though I would pay him for his time. Im not sure how these guys stay in business with turning away customers.

I asked for recommendations on a pretty nice 2-speaker stereo setup. Got one that sounds great, matched my stated budget, and I was able to listen to the speakers before buying them -- in a quiet environment with no rush. And to top that, the prices were basically the same as amaz*n or anywhere else! They did not try to push fancy cables or any of that rot, either. The store itself is not much to look at, but thats an A-ok way to save costs if you ask me.

Had a question regarding hooking up my system. Just called them and it may have been a fluke but the guy I spoke to was a jerk and shut me down as soon as he decided my system wouldnt work and just hung up. Didnt even suggest alternatives or even try to make sure what I was doing was correct. Quite unfortunate.
