I love coming here! Its a place that has inspired me to enchance my wisdom. Ive been going to Harvard Book Store for a couple of years now and I always find new books that guides my journey/destination.
Nice store huge selections, but they let to many people in at a time so it’s impossible to social distance. They are putting profit ahead of public safety and CDC guidelines.
A nice book store tucked into the corner. The downstairs has used and overstock books, and they really have some great prices!Worth noting: They’re also currently requiring a mask to enter and they’re limiting how many people can be in the store at once.
An incredible book store! They stock all the latest books with a strong support for history, science, and academia over pop culture. The basement has an incredible selection of affordable used books, making it a great spot to browse as well. Most impressively, the Harvard Book Store prints their own books too, making them an invaluable resource to the community.Definitely a place to check out for locals and tourists alike.
If you love books you will love this book store. If you are just passing by and don’t need a book it is still worth browsing and picking up a bag or postcard or something or nothing. The book loves have the whole top floor to enjoy book reviews and recommendations galore and books for all ages and interests. Downstairs is where you can really go to town with the selection of discount books. This bookstore is why I never have enough bookshelves at home.
Harvard bookstore is my go-to local bookshop. The staff members are friendly and helpful, making my experience very pleasant, and the book and stationery selection is impressive. Highly recommend to anyone who loves to shop local and get amazing books!!
This place is awesome and their math section is especially good. Usually bookstores and even public libraries have very thin math departments, wherein this one had a good selection of excellent deep beautiful math. The size of this place is also great, and its easy to get lost and have fun in this place.
The staff at the Harvard Book Store are extremely knowledgeable and friendly! I ordered several books during their most recent Warehouse Sale and requested that my books wait to be shipped until after I moved. The staff was very accommodating and even included a kind note wishing me a successful move alongside my books when they arrived! Will definitely revisit their store in-person if I find myself in Boston again.
This is a wonderful book store. It has a great atmosphere and friendly staff. I called to see if they had a book, they put it on hold, and I bought it.
The staff are really nice and helpful, but I wasnt a fan of the books they sold.
Its nice to visit a book store these days, especially one with the curated selection for this one, instead of shopping online. I missed the smell of a bookstore and thanks for helping us find books for the kids!
Nice store. All types of books, not just for the students.
Reused books- looks like new and available for cheap
Harvard + bookstore what else can u say? It is just as awesome as I remember it years ago. 👍
Amazing, amazing, bookstore. Also so nice to see their conscientiousness of the current pandemic in limiting patrons to a certain number. We all walked out with a book!
You see index cards with thoughtful, intriguing book reviews carefully crafted by bibliophile staff members. We enjoyed the wide array of local finds, popular titles, and obscure reads. The in store book binding machine for up and coming authors and professors is neat and handy. Needs an intentional cozy space to peruse and flip pages but otherwise fab.
A charming book shop in the middle of the Harvard University area. They have a great selection of new and used books. For any book lover this is worth a browse, the is a wide variety of books here. I would give a 5 star but it is pretty pricey, even for used books but dont let this put you off going here. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly too.
Support your local independent bookstore! Great selection and friendly staff.
Great store with a wide variety. I especially loves the staff recommendations for books
One of my favorite local indie bookstores! I mainly browse the discount and used books section in the basement for hidden gems (and Ive found plenty over the years!). I recently discovered their puzzle selection as well and look forward to more!
Very historic high prices but its Harvard
Love it there. Great customer service.
One of the best bookstores I have ever shopped at. Great selection of new and used books. Really helpful staff.. High on my list when I come to Boston
Its Harvards bookstore, for sure. But dont let the name blind you unduly. Its a good spot to pick up the latest bestsellers, or even search the basement for used books. Theres no cafe in the bookstore (not everyone is B+N yet!), but they do operate as a showroom for Harvards various presses, and are always excited to show off the new arrivals.Usually quite busy, as anything Harvard, with tourists from all around. Still good browsing, its a book store! But there isnt much I can think of to set it above the vast majority of bookstores.(Image of a book cover)
Always a pleasure to browse through their selections.
Beautiful place with a wide variety of books
Great selection of used and new books. Only complaint was it was pretty stuffy and hot in there but thats no big deal
Definitely cheaper than Barnes and noble and the staff are all super kind!
The Harvard Bookstore staff are always kind and helpful when I have questions shopping online, and they do great with socially distanced curbside pickup.
Terrific selection of Harvard merch.
Vast verity of books, hard to navigate.
There can be a long wait to get in the door of this Harvard Square icon so please be prepared if the weather is nasty or cold. Once inside, though, you experience a warm, friendly atmosphere where the help is always happy to assist you. Among the many different areas of emphasis there is a comprehensive section devoted to world historical titles (one of my favorite sections) on a vast array of subjects. There is also a stunning collection of art books (and I really mean stunning) with a large section devoted to it. The store, in general, is jam packed with materials so social distance requirements make browsing a challenge. Dont forget to check out their basement section for used books in great condition.
They have everything, and its locally owned!
Perfect book store 🤗✨😍
My order was missing a book (mistakes happen so I ordinarily wouldnt give a bad review for that). When I picked up my order and asked about it, they brushed me off and gave me the wrong info (after waiting 45 min). Had a bad feeling about that answer so emailed later and the book they said hadnt arrived had been sitting at the store the whole time. The main problem is both staff members were pretty rude and gave the impression I was inconveniencing them instead of the other way around. I just wanted the book. Was excited to try this local bookstore but this was a terrible first impression.
One of the best book stores in Massachusetts!
Friendly staff & vast selection of books.
Great service ..found the 2 books I was looking plus 2 more that are now on my must read list..
Love the carefully curated local bookstore with national author visits.
For what it is it was it was much more than I expected. Went here last summer for a book on my way out of town for the weekend and they had it! Kind of obscure reading too. Vast selection and prices not what i expected for the location. It was well priced and the help was so nice. It was super busy at that time and she walked me to the book. Excellent all around. Better late than never on a positive review!
This is one of my favorite bookstores. The staff is great, they have a huge selection, and they are very communicative about online orders. I have had many great experiences with them and they are at the top of my list when Im looking for a specific book.
This store totally disrespects its customers. Despite the state recommendation about lifting social distance guidelines, and despite the fact that customers have a proof of vaccination, despite the rain and 8 degrees outside, they still don’t let more than 25 people in the store. Well, they are monopolists, so they know the customers will come anyway.
Nice cozy bookstore.
Fantastic curated selection of books with many notes of recommendation, also very cozy
Old school book store with a TON of books. Also can print and bind books.
I participated in release day event with an author signed novel. It showed up on my doorstep wrapped in bubble wrap, and I didnt have to open the envelope because it had torn open in transit. Luckily the bubble wrap mostly did its job. The only damage I have is a minutely wrinkled dust jacket where a book corner caught and a bookmark with some edge rolling. Its about the amount of wear itll probably see going on and off the bookshelf. I just think one layer of bubble wrap, and a lightweight bubble wrap envelope wasnt the best way to send an autographed, two pound and 1,200 page novel in the mail.Id love to see the store in person someday, but I wont order online from them again.
Ordered a book weeks in advance as part of a release event. The book came out a week ago. Finally checked the shipping tracking and USPS hasn’t even received the book yet. Also they’re shipping media mail which is the slowest shipping method. Was hoping to have the book within a day of release now wondering if I’ll ever actually receive it.
Staff very helpful
Harvard Book Store has very good COVID protocol, although I did linger as long as I normally do.
Books smell good
Great selection
Nice people.
Ome of my favorite bookshops in the US
The employees and manager are super nice
Great deals
The store had perhaps the widest selection of books that I have ever encountered. It was also well organized and easy to navigate.
This is a wonderful bookstore. They have a great selection of new and gently used books, very good discounts on a revolving selection of new books, and fabulous author events. They also have a warehouse that is opened several times a year for deeply discounted books.
This is an unusual store---employee-owned, logically laid out (the best-sellers and current publications are organized so that the shopper can find what they want, including a little childrens reading area and a large art book display), and an amazing basement of discounted books. But, it is not IN Harvard UNIVERSITY, as advertised, it is IN HARVARD SQUARE & open to all!
Charming bookstore with wide selection of used books. The staff is very helpful and friendly
Very nice store to visit
Nice wide selection of books and lots of books. I feel like i was more in a library than a store. I love books. This store didn’t have a great variety of business books, that I tend to be more interested in. I did really enjoy discovering the used section downstairs that carries some mint looking books. I’d be fooled, some of them looked brand new, at a great price. I saw Team of Rivals and Devil in the White City downstairs with the front covers shining at a price of $8, if my memory serves me correctly. I’ll definitely visit this books store again if I’m in that neck of the woods. Only feel they could have some better catchy end caps with more popular titles.
Location is easy to find, theres plenty of parking, and there are a lot of great deals on used books. We spent 2 hours just browsing through the shelves, looking at fun new books, and we came away with more than we meant to buy. Closest experience to what you get at Powell Books in Portland that Ive found in CA.
Comic readers should check out This really lovely bookstore - the second hand and Bargain sections are in the basement. There’s about 30 foot of second hand graphic novels downstairs. It varies but I often find a bargain here or more importantly an item I’ve been seeking out or didn’t even know about. The bargain Graphic Novel section is at the bottom of the stairs and always worth a quick check. Real respect and knowledge is displayed on the ground floor as their new GN section has comments, recommendations and I enjoy this. Good to know what others are thinking. This is a lovely book store.
Its a beautiful charming store with very attentive staff ready to help you.
Be aware that if you are ordering a book as part of one of their virtual events, a separate warehouse deals with the shipping and processing. If you would like your book in a timely fashion, I would recommend going through a different store that is offering the event. I preordered for the books release party but will be recieving it 2 weeks after the release. I was looking forward to reading it with my friends and supporting a small book store but the harvard book store is not able to accomodate.
I love this book store! Ive been going here since I was a kid. Its one of the best places to visit in the square. Theres always a great selection of best selling novels and interesting topics to explore. Everyone can find something here. Theres a small section with quirky bookmarks,, pens, and stationary. The people who work here are friendly and helpful, and there are wonderful book reading and signing events that take place here over the year.
Very cute book store. Its actually a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. They buy used books and sell them as well. Their collections looked very interesting and there are several nooks where you can sit to read. While I was there, a guest speaker was reading from their book. It seems like they are a great spot for their community.
Harvard Bookstore has been a staple for many years. I loved it in college in the 80s, and I just finished watching a Zoom they organized with Barbara Kingsolver and Hope Jahren. This is a wonderful place.
