A great and caring practice

I can highly recommend The Eye Depot. I have had 2 surgeries performed by Dr. Pope. I was told he is the best in Bradenton. The office is very professional. The medical assistants and support staff do a very good job. I have been going there for 10 years. My husband and son have also been treated the same. I have heard good things about Dr. McSwain as well from friends I have referred there.

My husband had an eye infection that was considered an emergency. We made an apt for today and went in. The woman at the front desk was very rude and hostile. I needed to go in to talk to the eye doctor to relate some important medical information that my husband did not understand or remember. I told her that and she was hostile saying I could write it down. When I insisted on telling her I already discussed this with the scheduling person and this was worked out. She shoved a piece of paper at me to sign about COVID and told me and my husband to sit in a separate room from everyone else implying we were contagious or a threat to others. I answered all her questions about COVID and we both were wearing the required mask and had our temperature taken. We went to the separate room alone and were sitting in chairs next to each other filling out the paperwork when she brought my husbands insurance card out with a tissue holding it, I guess because she thought we were dirty or contagious. She then said we had to separate 6 feet to other chairs and could not sit together in an empty room! I told her I sleep with this man every night and kiss him every day and this was beyond anything that could be necessary and she said we had to move apart in separate chairs 6 feet away anyway. He was having an eye emergency but we left. Any doctor that allows his front staff to treat patients this way is no one I would ever see an emergency or not. So we are taking our chances and looking for a new doctor tomorrow. PS I was wearing a Back the Blue face mask and I could tell by the way she was looking at it she didnt like the mask. I think this is part of why she treated us this way.

Office staff incompetent, exams rushed.

I really had a hard time deciding on whether The Eye Depot deserves 2 stars or 3 stars, but I ended up on 3 stars. Why?The doctors are qualified and do a good job, but the service side (i.e. medical support staff, administrative staff, and even the fitting staff) are a mixed bag.The Eye Depot is an example of what can happen when the leadership does not lead well and allows the employees to have their way. I own a business with over 20 employees, so I know what this looks like when I see it. The leadership (the doctors who own the practice) at this business may know their job well but the staff does not show a customer-centered attitude and some are almost anti-customer, as crazy as that sounds. So, doctors... great. Staff... not so.

Dr McSwain treated me for noted Glaucma immediately following a small stroke. He came highly recommended by multiple doctors. I was very fortunate to find this eye doctor. He is one of a kind, excellent, efficient, skilled & trusted doctor. His laser treatment & advice was perfect. A quality doctor I would highly recommend.

An excellent experience. I had previously been going to The Eye Associates, but found that every single time I had to ask for a pair of trial contact lenses before ordering. Always before at other eye exam businesses trial lenses were automatic. No such problems at Eye Depot! Janet, the fitting technician, has great skill and patience. I was given numerous trial lenses until the perfect match was made! Thank you Eye Depot!

Knowledgeable staff, good selection, reasonable pricing.

Dr. Pope at the Eye Depot has been my eye doctor for at least 8 years and I would not go to anyone else. He is an amazing doctor and has helped me with my eye condition in a way that no other eye doctor has. I have been to MANY eye doctors over the year before I was his patient of Dr. Pope and I am extremely happy with him. There might be a wait, but it is worth it to see the very best. The staff is matter of fact and professional. If you are looking for an EXCELLENT eye doctor I recommend him highly.

Rude front desk when making appointment, upon arrival and follow up, Vicky. Other staff leave by noon and leave a message to return their call for your prescription but then are no longer there to assist. Unable to pick up as that staff is solely “the keeper of the prescriptions.” Dr’s and assistant were great. Very helpful and kind. However will not be going back.

Ive been waiting for 45 minutes (past my appointment time) and was told there is yet another patient before me. Definitely wont be returning here. This is a waste of my time.

Tons of tests they gave me because Im a diabetic. They really take care of you.

Called every eye clinic in town trying to get in on a Friday. Luckily I called the Eye Depot and to my surprise they worked me in. Cant say enough about how friendly the staff and Doctor was. Would totally recommend to friends and family.

The most comprehensive eye examination I’ve had. Dr McSwain is excellent in his field. I’ve had glaucoma for over ten years and I needed to be under the care of someone with the knowledge and training dr McSwain has.

They will make an apt and make you wait over 45 min. every time. You go ask the front desk how much longer and they will give you the deer in the headlight look.Go somewhere else where they actually care about the patients - not treat you as a number!!!!

Always feel as if I get special attention

Dr. McSwain and the staff at The Eye Depot are truly top notch. My wife and I started seeing Dr. McSwain 2 years ago and were glad we did. I highly recommend Dr. McSwain and The Eye Depot for your next eye exam.

I went with my sister to her appointment, she saw doctor Torres! Both visits were great, he was caring and on time.

Did not like the way one of the ladies answer.Tried to explain the reason why is going to be late and she just hung up on me. It was not Vicky but the other ladie which i dont remember her name.

Very professional office and staff

Excellent! Very careful attention to detail. I felt treated as if I were an important person. Everyone, from the one who received me to Dr. Mac, was very helpful and understanding of my ignorance regarding the health of the eyes. Very grateful to get the scare I had and really felt cured. Thank you!
