Came to town (from Missoula) to look at a specific bike available here. Looked at said bike for a few minutes a few different times and also some gloves. None of the 4 employees acknowledged our presence so we left and will hope to order the bike we want direct from Santa Cruz once they’re more readily available!I can’t just give one star because I did have a pleasant experience years and years ago buying an entry level ride.

I have had so many positive experiences with Ace Owenhouse bike shop it is hard to know where to start. From renting bikes, to a major overhaul or even to stop by and have them refresh the sealant in my tubeless tire, the staff is professional and aims to please. Having a shop like this in Bozeman that will do everything they can to get you on the road as quickly as possible is a valuable resource. Their customer service is second to none. I always appreciated the service in the main hardware store, but the bike shop raises the bar!

Owenhouse used to be our go-to bike shop in town but we’ve had really bad luck with them over the past few years. This has included brake failure on a mountain bike after getting a brake bleed, and flats on two tires after getting new tires and rim tape. A different shop said that Owenhouse’s taping was especially bad. After years of loyalty we will now be taking our bikes elsewhere.

Very nice shop. A friend had a ruined gravel tire and we needed to replace it ASAP in order to continue our ride. Owenhouse had a great selection of gravel tires. We bought a new tire and mounted it ourselves in front of the shop. The shop was more than happy to allow us to use their compressor to air-up and get back out on the trail. Thanks for keeping us rolling!

Let me start by saying, I have never left a review about any business establishment I have visited. I felt compelled to do so in this case. I am from out of town, and came in to inquire about renting a road bike. I am an avid cyclist back home, and was hoping to ride while we were visiting. The woman who approached me had poor customer service skills. She directed me to go online to see availability, even though I was standing right in front of her. I also had already done that. However, I had questions about rentals that were not answered on the website, which is why I had come to the store in the first place. I told her the length of time we would be in the area, and that we were flexible in terms of when we could rent. Instead of looking at each of those dates, she only looked at one date. Then I had to individually ask about each of the other dates. It was like pulling teeth. The entire time she was rude, as if I was wasting her time, and that I should know it is their busy season and there is limited availability. We visited many other businesses while we were here, including other bike shops, and were met with very friendly and helpful staff. Thankfully, those experiences gave us a positive experience visiting, after our first experience was negative.

Im surprised there are complaints about the customer service here. I primarily worked with Tom when I recently purchased a new Ibis, and he was as genuine and down-to-earth as they come. Owenhouse not only stocks XL demo bikes, but will refund up to three demo rentals upon your final purchase. My personal purchase process, from demo to receiving the final product, took over two months (primarily due to global inventory issues). Owenhouse maintained great communication through the entire process. My bike build turned out fantastic, which is more than can be said for builds Ive received from other stores. The only complaint I have is that I never received a proper fitting and had to do many adjustments myself during my first ride. Not a big deal for an experienced rider, but a newer individual would have been in pain. I wont knock off a star for that, though, as it was obvious they were extremely busy at the time - first week of MSU and all. Thanks for the sweet new wheels, Owenhouse!

Owenhouse is a top quality bike shop with excellent sales and service staff. I visit Montana several times a year from out of state and every time Im impressed with the variety of bikes, accessories and essentials that Owenhouse carries. The staff are knowledgeable and know the equipment because they use the equipment (these people actually ride bikes....a lot!). I know I can trust their advice on products that will help me make the most out of my rides while Im in Montana. They are also great at giving me ideas for routes and trails to try.A couple of years ago I was able to tag along on one of their shop sponsored trail rides and I broke a spoke. I was bummed because I was in Bozeman getting ready to ride the Tour de Gravelly race the following weekend and normally this would put your bike out of service for a while while getting fixed. One of the mechanics who was on the group ride heard this and he offered to take my wheel with him and told me to pick it up at Owenhouse the next day. Sure enough it was fixed and fixed well! Now I completely understand that normally there is a backlog of service and in todays high demand/low parts availability, no one can expect this to be the norm, but this was an excellent example of what I have experienced at Owenhouse. Good people trying to give cyclists the best experience they can have. I would highly recommend them!

In May of 2020 I had started getting serious about purchasing a new mountain bike. I have always bought used bikes, and the last bike I purchased “new to me” was a demo bike from Owenhouse for a fair price. I began looking at a brand new trail bike and settled on the Ibis Ripmo AF due to its high quality components for an affordable price. I messaged Owenhouse asking if they could get these bikes in and they stated they could, as they are an Ibis dealer. Fast forward to December 2020 and I was ready to take the plunge and get my order rolling. Understanding that COVID had been devastating to the manufacturing industry (including bike frames and parts) I went in ASAP to have it by the springtime. When I first went in, an employee stated that I needed to put $600 down to get on “the list” as only a certain number of frames were available. Is putting money down a store policy? Is this a percentage of the entire cost, or an arbitrary amount? I came back a week later to pay and get on the waitlist and they assured me that I didn’t need to put money down, contradicting what I was told the week prior. The employee opened up the computer and we went through the base build and I was officially “on the list” and waiting. In hindsight, I should have asked for some type of receipt, but I entrusted the process of the business.I checked back in person at the shop about once a month, each time being reassured that I was still on the waitlist for the same bike and build as originally discussed. Fast forward to the end of March and I got a call from Owenhouse letting me know my bike had arrived. Sweet! I called back to ask a couple questions and have them set it up tubeless for me and the employee I talked to mentioned the SLX build (a more expensive groupset by roughly $800) instead of the one I had chosen. OK, I can eat that cost I suppose. I am lucky to have a complete bike during these times when it is so difficult to get one. Then he mentioned the cost was going to be $5,199… Wait, that is a HUGE jump in price from the original frame ($3,200) with just a different drivetrain… He then asked if I ordered a Ibis V2, which is the carbon version of the bike I wanted. Not only was the build wrong, but the frame (and frame MATERIAL) were also wrong. I talked to the manager, Tom, to try and get an explanation. He was reasonable and professional as usual, but simply noted he wrote the wrong bike down on the ordering slip. If I placed another order, the bike might arrive by next fall I was told. I had a hard time wrapping my head around how this could have happened when nothing changed (or so I was told) for months while being reassured during the entire process.I’ve been a customer at Owenhouse for many years and never take my bikes to be repaired anywhere else in the valley. I truly believe that their mechanics are a step above other shops, and I have been more than happy with the services they have provided over the years on my downhill and trail bike. They never hesitate to invite you back and show you specifically what has been done and maintenance suggestions for the future. Most of the employees are great, and I enjoy the atmosphere, but this mishap was beyond frustrating. Online dealers stock the bike, which I could have ordered back when I placed my order with Owenhouse in December but I wanted to support this local business which has been great to me in the past and not have to pay the bike assembly fee. I don’t want to sound petty or slander this business, but I cannot support them for the time being. I will be back eventually, but this situation rubbed me the wrong way. I will continue to send folks here looking for a reliable and dependable bike shop but it will be with reluctance. I don’t enjoy writing such reviews, but this needs to be shared and hopefully this honest description of my experience helps others decide where they choose to take their business in the future, especially when ordering complete bikes.

We’ve shopped at Owen house for years, it’s our go to place for bike gear. However, today made me want to leave without making a single purchase. I know how controversial masks are. My husband forgot his, but my son and myself both have very legit medical exemptions complete with a note from a doctor. We entered and my husband accepted their single use masks. They guy offered one to my son and myself and I said, “We can’t wear them we have medical exemption, thank you though.” He continued to hold the box up at me gesturing to take one. So I repeated myself and he said, “I know but I have to ask you to wear one.” I told him we couldn’t and he repeated himself two more times! Finally I was about to walk out and he stopped. We wanted to buy new tubes and a bell for our sons bike and look at the options for “next steps” up for him as well. We find a bike we want to look closer at and take it outside. While we are outside the guy then asks, “Are you guys sick?” I was in disbelief, seriously?!? We weren’t coughing, sneezing, we didn’t look feverish... there was no reason to ask me about my medical health. It’s 1 very rude, 2 in violation of HIPPA, and 3 just uncalled for in this situation. And for perspective, when we entered the store, a guy exited without a mask and both staff members behind the counter had their masks pulled below their chins or hanging off their ears. The hypocrisy and judgment from the staff towards my family was uncalled for. We set up a membership because ours wasn’t in the system, but on further thought, I think we might look somewhere else for future bike purchasing needs.

Went in to this shop today to demo a couple of MTBs. Selection was awesome, had great accessory options, and Dan was the first to great me. Really great customer service from Dan; very friendly, personable, knowledgeable, and funny. I told him immediately I wasn’t an experienced rider and have only really researched MTB, but have cycled and bike commute a lot, he was very understanding and even seemed excited for me to try it out. He set me up on two bikes which I went and rode and loved. My first ride, Dan greeted me back and sent me off again. On my second ride I liked the bike, but it rode and felt differently and I am not experienced enough to know why. When I explained to Kyle I felt like I gained speed more on the first bike and that could have just been that it was a smoother ride, he basically told me I was wrong and gave me a list of technical reasons why; making me feel dumb. I said, “Well, maybe because this one has a wider tire, grips more and made me feel like I was going faster. I’m not very experienced.” He said, “Well, you should feel like you’re going slower and lug more, so....” looking at me as if I am dumb. I couldn’t even talk to him anymore, because of his condescending tone. Dan was just so friendly and then to be greeted by Kyle, it was night and day. He definitely put off the vibe that he knew more than you (which I already said I was new to MTB) and didn’t care to teach me anything, just make me feel stupid. He also tried to tell me to try out the Juliana Santa Cruz designed specifically for women which has a narrower grip, less pressure, and made for lower weight rider. I’ve already researched this bike and knew it wasn’t for me, Dan also took one look at me and said the Juliana wouldn’t work for me. I have a long reach for a woman, broad shoulders, I’m 5’9” and I weigh 180 lbs. Kyle has great technical knowledge; however, he really lacks in people skills and sales. Where I may not have vast knowledge in MTB, I have knowledge in plenty of other areas that he may not know. Mutual respect goes a long way in making a sale. More than half of making a sale is getting the consumer to like and trust you, which didn’t seem to be a big concern for Kyle. I wish Dan would have been available when I came back, because I was ready to make a purchase before Kyle turned me off.

Absolutely outstanding service. Was biking up the Gailagator trail when my quick release broke clean off. Walked over to Owenhouse cycling, and they replaced it on the spot, only charging me for the part. Even attempted to fix my seat post.I will absolutely be buying my next bike from them!

Service here can be a mixed bag. I have had about 4 rough interactions here with very poor service. I cant speak for all employees but I can sure give Jade and Branham a glowing review. They are the only reason I am still doing business with the Owenhouse bike shop. They have been super helpful, kind, knowledgeable, and care about the customer. There are several other employees there that obviously dont give a rip. Over all I say give this place a try and look for Jade or Branham if you can.

Good bike shop and great brands. Often very busy and even though they seem to have a large staff, customer service can vary significantly.

Looks like a nice place, told them I needed the bike done by the weekend for a service of the brake pads, they told me it would be done by then. Come to find out on Thursday, after calling them on the status of my bike that it wouldn’t be done till after the weekend. Wasted that whole time leaving my bike there for a full 8 days before leaving town on a bike trip and now have no brakes on the bike. Defiantly a waste of time I could have spent bringing the bike somewhere else where it could have actually been getting serviced. Poor customer service, just told me nothing they could do without inconveniencing others. They didn’t recommend any other options or bike shops for me, nothing. I’m sure it would have been a good service, maybe. Just don’t expect them to actually inform you or get anything done in time.

Summer of 2014 I took my bike in because it seemed like it was skipping links when I peddled. Thought I might need a new chain, maybe more. I took it in for a tune up. Asked about a guestimate of when it might be done, they said 4 days. I called them after 6 days, the guy said itll be another 2 days. I called them 4 days later (a TOTAL TIME of 10 days with no courtesy call). So I came to pick it up on day 11 and surprise surprise they HAD NOT FIXED THE ISSUE. I calmly went up the the guy who charge me and said the problem isnt fixed, he said its not I asked if he had ridden it after it was fixed he said well no. I said so you fix bikes and dont test drive them when youre done??? He said well let me take a look. He rode it, tightened a link and it seemed to work after that. I think I was charge $50.00 for nothing!!! I will always bad mouth this facility for their incompetence! The warehouse for buying tools is great but the bike shop seems like it could use an attitude adjustment!

They get the job done but dont expect them to get it done it time. I had my downhill there for a replacement axle. They said it would take a week, which is reasonable. I call them up a week and a half later and they still havent ordered my part. Its been three weeks now and they still dont have the part ordered.

Always seems like a challenge to even get someone to talk to you here. They do have things in stock that I dont see elsewhere so they arent all bad.
