Hospitable staff, great food, and convenient location. 49 Social made us feel welcomed when we came in on a rainy Thursday before we saw the nights showing of Waitress. The food was served promptly and in good portions, and tasted wonderful! I highly recommend getting the pulled pork sliders. Menu variety isnt too large, but the selection covers a lot of tastes.

Food was very good but I have to say I did get annoyed that I was served penne pasta instead of the Campanelle that the menu said would be used. Just wanted something a bit more special for the place and price. Anyway, it was tasty regardless and the scallops were especially good because of the combination of flavors. Wish the tables weren’t so close together so I would have room to move easily.

The WORST service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. Do not go here!! I came with a party of 12 girls to celebrate my birthday. The waitress, Stella, paid us no attention, never checked on us, asked how our food was, or saw if we needed more drinks. When it was time to pay our bill it took a full HOUR to get our credit cards back, and they charged several people the wrong amount. I had to ask three different staff members if I could speak with a manager and no one came so I finally walked up to the bar and confronted him myself. The manager was unsympathetic and eventually even told me they’d made another mistake and we’re supposed to charge us all another $6 each. The waitress, Stella, stood and listened with her arms crossed while the bartender tried to defend her and rolled her eyes at us. A poor excuse of a restaurant if you ask me! I hope people take my word of advice and STAY AWAY.

The decor in the restaurant was nice. The person that greeted me at the door was very welcoming and friendly. My experience went downhill after our waitress appeared to be drunk or high or a little of both. She was slurring her words, she kept closing her eyes as I spoke to her. She was continuously confused. She wasn’t focused. She messed up our party’s food order. I had to wait a really long time to get my food while I watched EVERYONE else eat. She forgot to bring our drinks. Then when we told her that she never brought us our drink she basically called us liars and then walked away. We proceeded to the bar to complain and were basically called liars again but another worker jumped in and finally we got our drinks. There was a male server there who brought us our food he was really nice and gave us great customer service. This would have been a really nice place if it wasn’t for some of the workers. Being drunk or high while trying to provide customer service is NOT acceptable.

The manager went out of his way to make sure that we were accommodated and comfortable. It was a great feel - really interesting vibe, very unique! Will definitely go back!

To start on a positive note, the cocktail I had was very good. Perhaps as a place to grab bar plates and drinks, this would have been a different experience. The food we ordered (a salad, lobster ravioli, a salmon entree, and scallops) can really only be described as okay. None of it really tasted bad, but nothing that felt like a return trip. On top of that, our server had very low energy and did nothing to enhance the experience. We visited a drugstore after leaving and got more energy from someone there.

49 was the best bar we went to on our honeymoon. The service was amazing. Didnt have the food so cant comment on that. But the bartender Doug was outstanding and as an avid bar star I can honestly say this was the best service and bartender I ever had. He treated us canadians like royalty. Grace was an absolute sweetheart and she always made sure my drinks were full and was great to talk to. Anytime I come to boston this will be a for sure stop for at least a beer. Beers cold and the company is great.

Service was a bit slow and food was delivered pretty spread out. They also forgot i of the meals so that came after the others were done or almost done. The steak and my sons hamburger could have used some salt. They were pretty bland. We had the tables bill spit in 2, which was properly presented, but they charged one card for both bills.Have to say for the cost, I have high expectations for service and quality. Hostess was very friendly, but overall I have had better service at a chain restaurant.

We just stopped in for a glass of wine so I cant comment on the food at all. Our waiter didnt really know her wine list very well, although she did offer us a sample of a couple of the wines we were interested in. The selections we ended up with were fine, and not the ones we had tasted. The bench seating was fairly uncomfortable so all in all we wont be rushing back

Dinner before theater show on tuesday night. restaurant was hot (and it wasnt even that hot outside), menu did not match on-line menu, server was very lethargic and not very personable, of the 6 or 7 beers on tap per the menu there was only one avail (our other taps are broken now). Things just felt off, there was nobody in the restaurant (just 2 other tables were sat)....felt like a struggling restaurant that was not going to be around much longer. Food was ok but did not make up for the rest. Walked around corner an up washington to opera house and all the other restaurants were packed..so clearly something off with this place.

Went here before going to the Opera House. The food was solid, even the vegetarian selections. Their drink menu was strange with regard to bet choices. They had a limited selection and it was hard to tell what they were going for. Additionally, they were out of a bunch of selections and didnt share that with us when the interaction started. We also had a gluten free person with us and they couldnt understand that we didnt want the fried cheese on the salad because of that. Our greatest friction points seemed to come from just education their servers. All in all, would definitely try again.

49 Social is a cool hidden gem, and is perfect for a fancier meal in the area around Temple Place, which is full of higher-end pub-type bars. 49 Social definitely has a wine-bar feel, but also made me want to sip on martinis or similar cocktails.

Have tried this place a couple times and its just okay- the food doesnt really make an impression on me. It is, however, far less crowded than the other two places on the block (JM Curley and Stoddards), and a solid place for drinks/snacks if not my first choice for dinner. Pretty good beer list.

From the outside looking in, I was concerned 49 Social was a bit too fancy for our casual after-work (and for some, after workout) crowd, but they immediately greeted us with a smile, confirming no dress code. The four of us enjoyed a meal of filet mignon and salmon, both of which were cooked perfectly. (Dont judge us for eating the same items!) Great wine selection, super friendly staff and attentive management.

Not a bad place though, hopefully they add more Vegan or vegetarian options to their limited menu. My freind suggested it so we will see.

Ive been here before but it was for a event. I got a Groupon some time ago wanting to try this place out. The menu items seem very good. There werent many options but a variety thats enough for everyone. The price is a bit on the higher end so youd expect the food to be somewhat pretty good.We ordered the mussels to share, which was very good. It was cooked just right, not overcooked where the meat was still tender and moist. It also came with 2 thin slices of grilled bread which was the best Ive had.I ordered the Filet Mignon which came with mash and asparagus. The meat was more on the Rare side that I ordered but it was better than if it was overcooked so I was ok with it. The mashed was very creamy. The Asparagus wasnt as good as I would have liked. You can taste the vinegar on asparagus and it wasnt necessary since it was grilled. My daughter ordered the Pasta con Frutti de Mare, which came with half a lobster (this was not specified in the menu) shrimp, scallops (a few VERY thing slices, again not specified in menu), over roasted tomatoes, basil in a Lobster saffron sauce with house made pasta. The dish was very tasty. The pasta was fresh and firm. The menu didnt say much about lobster but was hopeful it was a whole tail but it was only half. The dish by itself was very good. For Dessert we ordered the cheesecake which was topped with pineapples and asian pear bits in a pineapple sauce, i think. The dish, again was very good. The cheesecake wasnt too creamy-like nor heavy so it was very tasty. The service - this was where I was disappointed. The waitress seem like she was in her late teens, early 20s. She came around and poured water. It took awhile before we ordered and she wasnt coming back to the dining room to help or make eye contact with us. I can see her cleaning around the bar from where I sat. My daughter had to raise her hand to get her attention. After we ordered, she brought soem bread slices over. The bread was warm and slightly toasted with a plate of olive oil. It was very good. We were now starving so we ate the bread pretty quickly. It took her another 10 minutes before we had to call her attention again and asked for more bread. The Appetizer didnt come out until 20 minutes later. We finished it within 10 mins and we sat in silence as we waited for our entrees to come out. She returned a couple of times to ask how the food was. Finally we were ready for the bill. I gave her the groupon as we ordered Dessert. When the bill came, everything was taken off as it should, except there was a 18% gratuity added. Not that I mind much about it being added but its the principle of me, as the customer, wanting to give the amount I felt appropriate for my dinner experience. In my previous experience with dining with my friends weve always been generous tippers, averaging 18-20% depending on the places we go. I asked the waitress why was gratuity added it. She said it was company policy for groupon users. That again made my heart sink. What if i wanted to give more because service was great? youve just lost out on money. This was just not exactly the best service considering we sat there for 2 hours and we were the only 2 people in the entire dining room, and only a handful of people at the bar side.I was extremely disappointed in the service although food was pretty good. This was the reason why i gave it 2 stars. It would have been 4, if gratuity wasnt added and service was friendlier and more attentive.
