I recently purchased a new guitar from Portland Music Company in Beaverton and fortunately had the pleasure of working with Dillon which is the main reason I purchased a guitar from them. There are many stores that you can purchase a guitar from but in my experience there are none with the enthusiasm, knowledge and genuine concern that Dillon had in my transaction. They are very fortunate to have Dillon as an employee.

My favorite music store hands down. Whatever you need they can help you with and they make sure to take care of their customers. They have gone above and beyond to make sure I was happy with my purchase, including a discount and free restoration on a guitar that had some minor damage left by a careless customer. Cant wait to buy more guitars and have more custom work done.

I bought my first guitar here in 1998. Still have it! Epiphone Les Paul Black and white.

They had a good selection of guitars to look through, but the customer service was a little pushy. I spent around 5-10 minutes but was asked numerous times if I needed help/etc. when I had repeatedly said I was just looking around. I appreciate the thought but I didnt end up spending very much time inside because of that.

Very helpful staff. Genuinely interested in helping you find whats right for you. Danny Rico was an exceptional person talked to my wife about her interest in music and showed her several Cellos in the store and there pros and cons. He even got me interested in a guitar that they had. Beautiful dark mahogany finish wonderful deep rich tone. I may just head back there and pick it up. Definitely a class A operation.

This place is great!!!!!! I have been mostly dealing with Gabe here and I have to say he is phenomenal. I am an amateur guitar player/musician. Gabe has always taken the time to answer ALL of my questions. He does all of my guitar set ups and they are ALWAYS spot on to what I ask for.Enough about the awesome Gabe. The other folks in the store for the most part have been great also. Danny is very personable and seems to know guitars very well and the tall guy with the long hair is very knowledgeable and obviously has a ton of experience (sorry I forgot your name brother).5 stars is not an exaggeration, I wish I could put 10.

This store went above and beyond and got me a very popular amplifier that was sold out across the country. The proactive customer service reminds me of times when music stores were full of people excited simply by the opportunity to help you make some noise you enjoy. Best experience Ive had in a music store in 15-20 years.

This is a stellar shop. I’ve shopped at Portland Music Co for years, and I have always had great experiences with the staff. They have a very broad selection including stuff you might otherwise only see online, and they will make the time to dial you in to the right gear for your needs, or let you figure it out for yourself if that’s your preference. I don’t generally buy lots of big ticket gear new, but a couple of recent purchases on near back to back NGDs could not have gone better, and both Noah and Danny were awesome to work with and took good care of me. I would definitely bring this Portland institution my business again!

My son needed cleaning for one instrument and repair for another. The price for service was reasonable, and the staff was knowledgeable and helpful. I also appreciated the no hassle customer service. In addition, we purchased sheet music, which was cheaper than the online options. I would recommend this place to anyone needing servicing for their brass instruments.

Really nice music shop. Decent selection, and theyre really chill about people playing the instruments and making lots of noise. Theres a bathroom and a dog that hangs out, too (super friendly), so its a nice place to spend some time in and try out instruments. Well spaced, too, I often find music shops are too cramped and I feel like I might break things if I stumble a little. Theres some couches and seats, too.

What a great place! You walk in and it just feels like home. L helped us pick out a guitar and midi keyboard and was so helpful and friendly (and talented!). Cant recommend this spot more.

Some of the best selection of quality instruments. A lot of fun instruments you might not expect to find as well, like a theremin. They carry the prestigious Guild guitars. Super helpful staff. Sheet music, work notebooks, gear, insane pedal selection, and string options for days. Over the past ten years Ive made all my major instrument purchases here because they stand behind the products.

When I first moved here they set up a few basses and a guitar and all instruments have played awesome since. Ive been back there a few times for picks and wires and theyre always a friendly crew of people working. Definitely worth a look!

I went there looking to play around with a specific hollow body Gretsch guitar, which they had in stock. The salesman (Logan) also took the time to plug in and demo other comparable options so I could hear the tonal differences. It was extremely helpful, and it was a plus that he was very skilled at guitar and was able to effectively demo the other options. When Im ready to buy, I will be back.

The upstairs is an instrument store with a decent selection. Ive bought an electric piano, a mandolin, a travel guitar and saxophone reeds, which were all reasonably priced. The service is good. The downstairs is all sheet music and probably the most extensive selection of music books youll see anywhere.

I dont know if the man working is still employed here, but I am finally getting around to leaving this almost 7 year old review... went to pick out a flute for band having no flute experience before. Went close to closing as I needed it for the next day. The guy working there (a larger male I remember) wasnt super helpful and basically thrust this one and only flute at us. Very beat up, not shiny (I specifically said I wanted a shinier flute and the guy belittled me for asking for one) and said that this was a great instrument. I did not know how to play the flute at the time well at all and I tried to play it and the sound was awful, but the guy insisted that was just because I didnt know how to play and that it was a great brand etc... it was very expensive too. All the pads on the flute were replaced and mismatched and at the time I didnt know any better because I was like 12 and wanted the flute badly. Now that I look back on it I never could play high notes on the flute and it was very sticky and discoloured. My dad bought me a new cheap flute off of eBay a while after and I could play it with ease. Unfortunately lost that flute and went digging and found the old crappy one from here which is what compelled me to write this.

My 11 year old decided he wants us to play a duet at Christmas. Here just started playing trumpet in 6th grade band and I havent played my flute in 20 years (other than to help him practice the last few years) So we went on the hunt for a trumpet flute easy Christmas duet that a picky 11 year old wanted to play.We ended up at Portland Music Company, thanks to a reference. The staff downstairs was amazing! They took the time to understand what he wanted. Unfortunately, they didnt have exactly what he wanted but made several suggestions.They were happy to put the books on hold while he thinks about it, no pressure at all!We will be back!

Portland music is the best place in the city to get music. They carry everything from classics to pops, and piano to french horn! So happy we still have a physical STORE to buy music at... you cant buy everything on the internet, its just not that easy! Thanks for keeping the store up and running for those who love to browse music.

Sure, you can shop online for everything. But its nice to go around the corner and just pick it up in your neighborhood. Besides, buying local when possible keeps some of the cash in the neighborhood. Portland Music Company keeps a good stock on hand and their staff has deep knowledge on music and local musicians.

Went in for a Christmas present for my mom. Staff was very welcoming and helpful. In particular Noah, He is assistant manager and was very, VERY down to earth in my opinion. I am really wanting a 12 string guitar and he took me to some affordable 12 strings and handed me a guitar pick, and a 12 string acoustic, introduced himself and i shook his hand. He said take a seat, get comfortable . I am saving up for a 12 string and i will only do business with Portland Music Co! Love the vibe each and every time i come to one of the locations. I stopped by Portland Music with a Korg keyboard that I inherited. My intention was to trade it in on a small combo tube amp. Noah turned me on to this Vox Night Train 15C1. I exceedingly happy with the amp and the customer service that I recieved. Noah is no nonsense straight to the point. He is also a musician. Ill be coming back. Pro quality and Pro attitude. Great little place. I prefer these independent places to the corporate circlejerks like GC or Sam Ash. Staff was very helpful and cool. I bought a little pedal there, and played some geetar on my lunch break. A nice respite from my 8-5 stone cubicle Id say. Ill be back for sure!

You get personal service from knowledgeable staff. They have a huge selection of instruments and supplies for musicians from beginners to professionals. They also have a room full of sheet music.

I got help from a cool dude, who was very patient with pulling down half the basses for me to try. He did a great job showing me different designs and features I could have, and I was really sure when I found the one I wanted. Even more sure now.

Friendly and helpful! I got a trumpet maintenance kit for $25 which is a good deal! Plus they have sheet music here.

That guy Noah was really helpful in tuning my uke for me since for some reason it sounded off for me. He also told me some things about the uke strings and I thought that that information was useful.Originally went to see someone else who worked there but I feel like he didnt want to talk to me but anywho great experience in that store.

Bought a Breedlove Guitar and took it home. Got a bill for $300 a month later. Called the store and they said they had undercharged me and they wanted $300 more. It turns out that they had accidently sold me a more expensive guitar. When I took it home, I told them that the top sheet didnt look very blonde (as I had played it at the factory in Bend) and the salesperson said it was just variation in wood. Turns out, he was wrong. Since I shouldve been paying more attention, we split the difference and I sent them a check for $150. I offered to bring the guitar back so I could get the guitar I really wanted, but the store manager seemed offended that I had had the guitar in my dirty home too long.

Purchased an instrument case there. The unit was defective (and obviously so) but the staff had a very difficult time with the return. I had to go down there once a week for over a month before it was resolved.While I wouldnt say the staff was incompetent, they were definitely not organized and unmotivated. The whole experience will keep me from purchasing any high dollar gear from that location.

The person who helped me was really rude and acted like I was wasting his time. Im trying to instill a love of music to my son, who is interested in trying the clarinet for the first time in his Jr high band. The counter person was dismissive and really unhelpful to a beginner musician like my 11 year old. I wondered how he felt the first time as a kid trying out the instrument of his choice? It was like my son didnt matter because hes not a seasoned musician yet. The only way to get good at music and instruments is to get one and try it out! Im disappointed that I got stuck with a music snob who had better things to do than cultivate a love for music and trying new things and learning! I will never go back and be condescended to or patronized again.

Spent a lot here over the years. Most expensive thing I bought was recently a PRS, they made a mistake going against factory instructions; It says adjust the truss rod if strings are high from factory, and they, in good intentions, lowered via bridge screws. I brought it in and asked them to correct it and they pretty much said it is fine. So now these kids at the shop know more than the engineers and luthiers at PRS. Ok. I will never shop here again. I am getting it set up by another shop. They insulted my intelligence.

Dropped in for the first time the other day to buy a few picks. Had the neat opportunity to be verbally accosted by the guy at the front counter when I brought up a couple picks without prices. He then dropped a trumpet on the ground accidentally--threw a few verbal bombs out and hastily walked out the back after angrily asking two other staff to help this guy with these fing picks.Following this--another staff had mercy on me and gave me a few bucks off--since I was now going to spend the rest of the evening reflecting on bad childhood memories that my five minute experience brought to the surface.Thanks Portland Music. Please put price tags on your picks before someone else gets emotionally wounded.

I love Portland Music, especially this location. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable- actual gearheads instead of glorified burger-flippers. If they dont have what youre looking for, theyll order it for you.
