Ive been coming here for ten years. They got me into card games by GIVING ME free cards. I had enough cards for five decks. I got my cousin and my best friend into card games. When I got into board games, they were the place I drove to.This place is one of the last charming places in Baltimore City and the staff has been wonderful to me.

Dan, the owner is alright to deal with but the playgroups (especially Commander) in the store are very elitist and look down on anyone not rich. I wouldnt pee on them if they were on fire. I suppose if you have $$$ its a decent place to play but DO NOT GO if you arent rich.

Visited the area coming from NY, this was a quaint little store I found with a friend. We both visited for out first time and were pleasantly surprised by the selection of board games, mini figs, and video games. The employee(s) were very helpful with locating and suggesting games as well as fun to chat with while we browsed. A great first time experience and I would reccomend it again.

The store is small and cozy, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Im giving 3 stars because the website clearly states they carry warhammer and other tabletop miniatures games but the in-store staff said that they dont. I didnt mind going in and having a look but I was disappointed that their website was misleading.

I needed recommendations on some board games to bring on a trip and the woman working was able to help me find a few options that were super fun. They even had a mystery package (this was around the holidays) that you could buy and get a random game. Definitely will visit again to try out some of the card games.

This is a great locally owned gaming store. We went in on a Saturday, when they have open gaming, and asked if the would play Munchkin so that my son and I could learn how to play. No problem. We had a great time playing the game with the owner, his wife and another gamer. They taught us the rules and some tricks. It was a great experience. The owner is more than happy to help with explaining any of the games that he sells.

I started coming to Canton Games as someone new to the city. At first I went in for a few games and found the staff to be very helpful and really enjoyed the games they help me select. As I came to more of the events [Star Wars Destiny Night, Magic events and Open Gaming days] all the regulars were welcoming and made me feel at home. I come every week now and it is one of the best parts of my week! Great place to go if youre looking to meet some new amazing gamers or pick up a game!

Amazing selection of magic cards, decent selection of board and table top games, but overall the store needs a lot of help in organization. Theres also always a sort of awkward atmosphere here, as there is never any music or ambient noise, and so its very quiet, despite other people being in the store

The employees here are unfailingly friendly and patient, and really know their stuff. They have open gaming on Saturday, which is a great way to try out games (which can be pretty expensive) before buying them. Ive found several new board games this way and, as a bonus, met other gamers to play them with! Theyre also really involved in the local gaming community; they host tournaments and sponsor the monthly Brews and Board Games social events in Baltimore (the nearest one meets around the corner at Myth and Moonshine).

They had a good selection of games and were friendly, but I wont go back. I asked about the price of a game and he said it was $52 after the 10% used discount. My sister said she found it cheaper brand new online and he told us that it was out of print and it was actually more expensive online, which was a lie. After I got home I saw it is being sold by the manufacturer for $39.99, so it is not out of print, and I feel like I wasted the extra $12 markup for a used game when I could have gotten a new one. The worst part is that the clerk lied about it just to rip me off.

I purchased a number of items this past spring. One of the items was a hexmat used for pen and paper rpgs where one can use dry-erase markers to mark on the mat. Unfortunately, this mat was not in stock and Dan claimed he could get it in a few days from his warehouse. He put my name into his computer system and I took my remaining purchases home. He also stated that he would call me when it arrived. The first strange thing I noticed was that I never received a phone call. No big deal, but picking up the mat kept slipping my mind.I emailed Dan to ask if I could come in and pick up my remaining purchase, he said he had the mat in stock and I could come by. Upon arriving at the store, the cashier claimed my name was not in the system at all. Having made the rookie mistake of losing the receipt, I realized I was in trouble. Dan said they would be willing to sell me the mat AGAIN and I could come back and get my money back if I could find the receipt. The whole transaction was dicey from the start when I never received a phone call back. I recommend finding a different game store in Baltimore if you are looking for reliable customer service and fair dealings

I love small businesses and often strive to shop locally, however after 2 attempts of shopping at Canton Games Im feeling extremely disappointed. Today my husband I stopped in to check out some board games and purchase a gift for my nephew. We werent sure which games would better suit his needs since he is really in between that weird age range for board games (usually games are 8+ or 14+). Inevitably we decided to take our time pursuing the store to pick the right gift. While in the store, the cashier was talking to another guy (customer), having a casual conversation about magic the gathering. Usually perosnal conversation is not a big deal and doesnt bother me, but the dude working behind the register didnt even ask if we needed help or assistance in the 20-30mins we spent at the store. My husband and I spent those 20-30 minutes, walking back and forth, through the store, going back and forth between a couple of games, until we just decided we would get two. Now I totally understand that I could have easily asked the cashier for assistance, but it was difficult to get a word in edgewise because of the personal conversation he continued having. We finally chose our games and stood at the register behind the guy (customer) who was talking and the guy at the register continued to carry on conversation for abour a minute or so. It was getting extremely awkward that we werent even acknowledged. Once the guy at the register finally head motioned for the dude he was talking to to step aside, there was no personal interaction with us. He scanned our items, told us the total, and let us swipe our card. No conversation or inquiry, no did you find everything you needed, just heres your total, and swipe your card. Once he handed us our games, there was no thank you or have a nice day. My husband actually said, yeah, have a nice day and the dude at the register seemed taken aback and said , oh yeah, you too. Maybe its just my opinion, but I believe the point of going to a store is for the customer service, assistance (if its needed, which it was today), and the personal touch. Its totally more of a convenience for me to just swipe my card on amazon and have the game delivered to my house in the future; instead of having to search for parking, be treated like Im non-existent, and be valued for only the swipe of a credit card at Canton Games.

One of the best game stores Ive been to anywhere. This is a true gamers paradise, unlike a lot of stores which contain mostly comic books with a little section of games. The store is clean and well lit, and all of the staff and customers are always fun to be around. They usually have multiple copies of all the mainstay games and can order anything they dont have in stock. They have fun events almost every day of the week/weekend depending on what games you like to play. I went with my wife on a Thursday night for their Android: Netrunner night, and the owner taught us how to play with his cards before we had our own. Weve also been on a Saturday for open gaming and everyone there was friendly and willing to teach us new games. This is a great place with something for everyone--whether youre a casual gamer, hardcore gamer, or even if youve never played anything before and are looking for an easy way to get into it. Canton Games is a perfect example of what American small businesses should strive for. There are game stores that are closer to where I live but I would much rather drive out of my way to come here.
