Some of the best steak Ive ever had, hands down. The odd bits werent as odd as one would expect and were incredibly well done. I highly suggest getting them! We had fried beef heart which was done incredibly well. The shishito peppers were a highlight! The steak did take some time coming out, which was surprising, given how long it takes to cook a steak. They also like to cook things on the lower end of the rare-well done spectrum. So a medium rare that we ordered was basically rare. The cuts are so tender you dont have to worry about the chewiness that can come from having a rare steak, so it evens out, but the color was surprising. The setting was excellent - low key and relaxed.Drinks were fine, the old-fashion was well balanced.Come to this place if you want a steak that will knock your socks off.

When I die I want to be cremated and my ashes spread here. Not even kidding. Thats how much I love it. It might be my favorite restaurant in Austin. Very unfussy and (as you would expect from a butcher shop) meat-forward. The burger (made from steak trimmings) is my favorite burger in Austin. The rotating steaks and the fries cooked in beef tallow is usually my go-to. Always expertly cooked and seasoned. Ask for a side of blue cheese butter or bone marrow butter (yes, you read that right) to go to the next level. Pro tip: it isnt part of the menu but ask your server about that days desserts. For a meat-heavy, unpretentious menu they manage to constantly surprise with extremely delicate desserts that you would never expect to come from a butcher shop. I once was surprised by a homemade pineapple sorbet in a martini glass and it was one of the best things Id ever had. PINEAPPLE SORBET. From a BUTCHER SHOP.(Also dont sleep on the extremely well curated butcher shop either)

Found this recommendation online and so glad we had a late lunch here. We had the charcuterie board with a wide selection of meats. Some I’ve never tried before and was pleasantly surprised. We shared the burger which was clearly freshly made. I must may though, it felt the fries with their house made ketchup stole the spot light!

Love it here. The creative meals are based on their wonderful local, and fresh, made products. Great quality, regional and exciting fare. I normally wouldnt order a burger, but its worth splitting with someone just to taste if you dont order a full one. I was also a big fan of the ratatouille, and blood sausage.

Salt & Time Butcher Shop and Restaurant is a fun and delicious spot in East Austin. The meats come from different Texas ranches and you know you’re getting the freshest ingredients. The whole setup with the butcher shop and grocery store with their to-go restaurant food is working for Salt & Time; they are staying busy. The restaurant is open for lunch where you can sit in the outdoor patio and are looking to open more seating and expand their menu in the next few weeks. I had read the reviews about the Butcher’s Burger so I had to give it a try with the side of beef fat fries. The burger is so flavorful and each is unique as they have daily steak trimmings mixed in. You never know what other gourmet meats have been added. I got my burger with bacon which was a great idea, if I say so myself. The next item on my list is either a steak or the pasta and some of the sandwiches also look quite good. Oh and the cookies are spectacular! Thanks Salt & Time for the wonderful evening. You have been on my must-try list for quite some time and have now moved over to the I’ll be back list. :)

I love a good burger and I had heard the Butcher Burger was a must-order entree. I can now tell you that not only is this burger worth ordering, it’s one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Seasoned & cooked to perfection, it even held up structurally when I added extra toppings. The French fries were golden on the outside and soft in the middle, aka PERFECT. The beer selection is great and I’m sure it rotates seasonally. I will absolutely be back to try the rest of the menu.

This quaint butcher shop and gourmet grocery expanded to a wine store and now features outdoor dining. The patio dining area is perfect for couples or a few people to get away and enjoy good food and wine together. The sandwiches are amazing. They are served on thick slices of buttered Texas toast. The hamburger is made from whatever trimmings they had that day in the butcher shop. Will it be Wagyu today? Everyday its a bit different but always delicious. The waitstaff were super helpful and helped us navigate through the menu. Prices are very reasonable and there were nice portions. Will definitely eat here again.

Funny, their menu photo shows a bone-in ribeye. When my wife and I visited the restaurant we ordered that steak. They served us the steak in the picture instead. A filet. I politely asked two waiters and they confirmed that it was indeed a ribeye. Right. Not a ribeye, excuse me. I left without making a fuss. But, I did call the restaurant manager the following day. He said he would look into it and get back to me. As you might expect, he never did call me back. As I recall it, the staff in the restaurant were not really in a good mood. Something must have been going on.But, that is no excuse for lacking the class to serve me the correct steak and in particular for not returning a reasonable call.Im afraid this restaurant is all hat, no cattle.

The meal started on a high note but the ending was very disappointing. We ordered Beef Tartare & Bone Marrow and they were delicious. We followed that with ribeye and it was HORRIBLE... it was very chewy, I kept pulling steak pieces out of my mouth because I couldn’t chew them, and the worst was the fact that they didn’t ask why 1/2 of the steak is still on the plate.

Went last night for quick dinner and was absolutely blown away. First and foremost the Beef Tartare is probably one of the best beef tartares I have ever eaten in my life - the mix of flavor was just incredible, and the steak was perfectly diced! I could eat this everyday. Absolutely superb. We also got the Cesar salad to start which was another hit. For the main we shared the Wagyu NY Strip, side of fries and broccolini, and the sweet corn agnolotti. My ONLY complaint was that there wasnt a larger portion of the agnolotti, delicious stuffed pillows of creamy sweet corn. Service was friendly and hospitable, will definitely be back!

This place is amazing. Its funny how the details stand out in a pandemic and speaks volumes about the establishment. We walked in and they immediately had us don gloves they provided before we grabbed a sanitized shopping basket. Good selection of unique little dry goods, but its their butcher case that drew us in. House made salamis and several high end charcuterie items from suppliers. Their pepperone ( I think thats correct ) was spectacular and we made a note to come back and get some specifically to make pizzas at home. All in all, very satisfied and highly recommend.Edit - almost forgot, the acorn fed prosciutto was also amazing.

I came to Salt & Time based on a recent Reddit post that said it was the undisputedly the best burger in Austin. That’s absolutely high praise, isn’t it?Admittedly, this evening, Salt & Time was not the first place I intended to go. It wasn’t even the second. It was a last ditch attempt after the first two places were closed. This meant I came in pretty close to closing time (9:30, they close at 10), and based on the first few minutes of sitting at the bar, I was sure I was going to be shunned or refused service. I’m not usually someone to draw attention to myself, so I quietly accepted my fate for what felt like a small eternity.Thankfully, it appears anxiety may have been doing most of the talking here, for as soon as the bartender wrapped up making a drink for another customer, he turned his sights upon me, with a clear smile upon his face, despite the mask he was wearing. He offered a menu, water, and a drink menu, promptly putting in my orders. Crisis averted. :)Let me tell you: this burger is quite deserving of its Reddit acclaim. The bun was soft and buttery, but held its structural integrity throughout the meal. The added cheddar brought a sharpness to the already rich meal, complimenting without detracting. But the real star here was the burger itself. I ordered it as a medium, and, lo and behold, it came out as such. I cannot quite describe the flavor, as I’ve never had a burger quite like this one, but it tasted like wealth (without having to cost as much). There was care, intention, love, salt, and, yes, time, crafted into this patty. I don’t expect I’ll ever have another burger that evoked the same kind of rich warmth this one channeled.I was, however, less fond of the fries. I found them to be mostly dry and crunchy. I’m certainly willing to chalk this up to me coming in under the wire. That said, the ketchup and whole-grain mustard provided with the fries were delicious, allowing the potatoes themselves to serve as crunchy carriers for these condiments. Is it the best burger in Austin? I think I’d have to be here longer and conduct more extensive research. I MIGHT still prefer Jewboy Burger’s Oy Vey Guey (Way), as the crispiness of the beef and the hatch green chiles simply SPOKE to me, but I will say: if you want one of the most unique tasting burgers to ever pass your tastebuds, then don’t let the simplicity fool you—Salt & Time is worth it’s salt and your time.

Really wanted to like this place, but no such luck. The tables were too close together. I would have been uncomfortable with that even if we werent in a pandemic. My pasta was underdone. Im happy to have pasta al dente, but mine was just not cooked enough. And it was carbonara style, but the egg yolk was just sitting on it, not cooked and stirred into the pasta in the kitchen, so it did not incorporate well. I would overlook all of this if the prices werent so high. The food and the wine were both more expensive than other high end restaurants in Austin, and the experience was nowhere near as nice as those in any aspect. The butcher shop part was nice, though.

My carbonara was undercooked. When we brought it up to the staff, we were told that the chef cooked it correctly and the firmness was due to the fact that it’s fresh pasta. I’ve been to Italy and lived with an Italian family before. The pasta was undercooked. The attitude from the kitchen didn’t set the tone right for the night. The food: Considering the fact I got a cheap hangar steak, I wasnt expecting much from my meal. I ended up being very impressed. The meat was cooked perfectly to order, and had an amazing sear on the outside, while still being rare on the inside, something even some of nicest steakhouses Ive been to still fail at. The meat was chewy of course, but it had a great flavor. What really pushed it all over the edge was the red wine demi. Normally, Im a steak purist, and never like to add sauces to my steak. The demi, however, was amazing! It was savory and unlike any sauce Ive had before. I loved it.The service: With reviews citing poor service, I was hesitant to come here, but I will say that my personal experience was good. You’re seeing 2 stars and wondering what the heck this place has such high reviews why is this one low. It’s not from the quality of the food. The food was on point. Service was a bit slow, but I didn’t mind. There would have been 5 stars.... BUT when the check was dropped there was a service charge added. I work in the industry and understand why places do it. My personal belief is it should be adjusted in the menu price especially when it’s for the whole staff. They add the service charge as a menu items and not in the service charge area, if you don’t read your ticket they’ve added 15% and you’ll tip on top of it. We left 30% but I won’t be back. Adjust your prices and practices.

Salt & Time is a nice new American style restaurant in Austin which also works as a butcher shop…so why would a vegetarian such as myself show up…well there were a few small plate options, a cheese plate and there’s always one vegetarian entree offered as well. After all, my goal is to not make everyone else a vegetarian, but have the best food experiences possible at the places where everyone else eats too.The staff here was super friendly. I’m from California so I think I’d describe our server as “Texas Friendly” which feels so large and I mean in the best possible way.The food I had was okay…I had the ravioli pasta (their vegetarian entree…this changes with their seasonal menu) I found it to be a little heavy tasting and not particularly filling. Feels like the size of this particular dish may have had it better placed on the small bites menu. (I’m a fairly small person too.)I also had the spearmint swim peas. Served in butter, these tasted really good and fresh. The spearmint leaves made the dish.I woud come back and try the cheese board. (As a lacto-ovo vegetarian I’m a sucker for a good cheese board…though overall I found the vegetarian options (which I was glad they had at all) a little limiting for my needs and the main dish a bit too rich in taste and not large enough to fill me up.Now to be fair it is a seasonal menu and glancing at their website now, neither of the items I ordered are still available…I do see “Sweet Corn Pudding with leeks”…that’s the kind of dish title that makes me want to fly back to Austin to give it a try.

Stopped by for lunch and it was raining. Found out they are about to switch to regular service including bar service. There is a great butcher shop with fresh meat and speciality items such as terrine and rilette. There are fresh vegetables and other grocery items for sale including BSM flour and bread from Sour Duck. We took our lunch to go including an order of duck fat fries which we ate in the car on our way home. The salad and steak were delicious. Two thumbs up. Oh, did I mention they also have a wine shop featuring all natural wines?

Disappointed. Traveled a ways got the in between lunch and dinner. Which is basically a burger or some apps. One choice for seating which was outside in the heat and humidityDidnt know the above until we said yes we would like to eat.Poor showing... let people know the details before you set them down

Had a very good meal, with excellent charcuterie and tasty beer, on an excellent little patio.

Food was overpriced and cold. It took more than 20minutes between the 1st person and the last one to get food.

I always make a stop at Salt & Time when I am in Austin. This place is definitely one of my favorite to eat at! Always clean and very friendly servers. Ive never had anything bad to eat here and love how I can always get something different to try that ordinary restaurants dont have. Plus whats better than a restaurant with a butcher that obtains local meats!

Urban chic and delicious food, BUT very limited menu and extremely pricy for what is offered. Glad I went, but wont go back.

If youre in the patio, you might get plenty of flies sharing the food with you. Bon appetit :)

By far, the best sandwiches and beer for lunch youll find in the city. Ive been back here again and again for this and it has never let me down.

Always fresh produce with an amazing meat selection. The take out burger here is also under-rated and one of the best burgers Ive ever had.

This quaint little place on the East Side, part butcher shop, part restaurant serves up farm to table fare. This was my first time here and I had the Pork Chop with Sunny Side Up and Crispy Potatoes. The pork chop was perfectly cooked and had a divine gravy with a hint of apple. Between the saltiness of the pork chop and the richness of the egg, the gravy was the perfect addition. Locally owned, this farm to table restaurant and butcher shop is quintessentially perfect!@divohaute Instagram
