This family owned mattress store truly goes above and beyond with their customer service. They give options case by case depending on your workable price range and provide good descriptions of why the mattress quality differs from each other to best whats most affordable and comfortable for you. Not to mention they offer same day delivery or, in my case, personally move out and strap down the mattress to your car. Truly one of my best retail experiences Ive had.

We went to Van Winkle after multiple failed deliveries by a big box store. This was our first visit, and we were very happy that we went there. It was nice to actually try out various mattresses. There was no pressure, and we spent quite a lot of time comparing them. Ken was very knowledgeable and answered our questions thoroughly. The delivery team was courteous and professional. They brought multiple foundations so that we could choose the kind that fits our needs the best. The service was great and the price was competitive. This was such a pleasant experience and far exceeded our expectation.

This place is the polar opposite of pretty much any “sales” experience you’ll ever have. We felt absolutely zero pressure whatsoever, which actually made us feel comfortable and WANT to support the business. So we did and we feel great about having supported an awesome local business!

I never write reviews, but I have to say Van Winkle Mattress is AMAZING. I needed same day delivery after my Macys Mattress order was not delivered on time. Van Winkle came through! The customer service was excellent. Its a no pressure environment. Theyre super knowledgeable. They have a ton of mattresses in stock from budget to luxury. And, my mattress was delivered with white glove service just two hours after I purchased it.Also the prices are just as competitive as if you bought online or at a big box store.

Ken and his family run store Van Winkle Mattress Company impressed us greatly. We wanted to shop local and not give our money to a box chain store. It turned out to be an excellent decision. Ken was extremely informative about the selection, the selection was fantastic, the prices were more than fair and the service excellent with no pressure. Great service and great prices. We purchased a queen mattress set, and a futon mattress. We were able to take the futon mattress with us, on the same day. And the queen mattress set is going to be delivered so quickly. We really appreciated the discount. The display room is full of so many mattresses to try out.

Buy your mattresses here! Such a great experience - owner is knowledgeable and helpful but creates a no-pressure shopping experience. Surprisingly complete selection. Prices are very reasonable and much of the selection is available for same or next-day delivery. They offer delivery and haul-away of old mattresses for a very reasonable cost. We are so happy we shopped here!

Very nice man helped us out and we were blown away by how different the experience was than we expected. He greeted us and then showed us around the showroom describing the difference between all of the mattresses, then left us alone to decide. No pressure at all. He also offers affordable delivery and old mattress take away. I dont think we could be more pleased with the experience and purchase.

Lovely family shop was exactly what I was looking for. Walked in, described what I was after and a price range and was promptly shown a variety of mattresses for me to take my time testing out. After a short while my mind was set and purchase made. Extra $30 and it was immediately packed into the truck, along with me, and delivered to my address. Never have I been so comfortable spending that amount of money. Highly recommend for students staying short term, and long term residents alike.

After struggling, for hours, to pick out a futon mattress specifically for my needs through Amazon or online, I looked for a retail shop and found this one in Ann Arbor, and am I glad I did! This store is a perfect example of where online shopping fails and in person expertise and outstanding customer service blows everything else out the window! The proprietor could help us pick a mattress that exactly fit our use and our budget, and had an excellent selection of well made products. He could thoroughly explain the advantages and disadvantages of each one relative to our situation and answer all our questions. We were able to walk out with one that day that was wrapped up nicely and carried out to our car by his assistants. A totally enjoyable experience and fun conversation and good feelings generated as compared to online frustration.

Delivery truck broke down so we did not receive the mattress on the day planned but got it first thing the next day and were given a very nice set of sheets as apology for being late. Not so here; I was given a brief tour of the show room, from least expensive to moderately priced, and then left to find the right mattress for me. If you ever need a mattress in the Ann Arbor area, Van Winkle is the place for you. We bought two mattresses on two different occasions from Van Winkle, and in both cases we were extremely satisfied, to say the least.This place is all about the service. The owner, Ken, and his children who also work at the store, are the nicest people we have met. They are professionals and they provide all the information you need. They will help you choose the mattress which is best for you, even if it means selling you a cheaper one. Unlike many businesses around, they are genuinely interested that their customers be happy and satisfied, and they will go out of their ways to make that happen.For example, when we had a problem with our Sealy mattress a year after we had bought it, all it took was a quick phone call to Van Winkle, and the very next day (a day before Christmas!) Ken paid us a house visit to check the mattress and see what the problem was. Not only that, he also took upon himself (although he absolutely had no obligation to do so) to talk to the manufacturer and try to help us with the situation we had. Needless to say that a few days later we received a phone call from Ken and the problem was solved to our utmost satisfaction.Bottom line - this is a great place, with great people, who provide great service, and sell great products. If we ever need another mattress, Van Winkle will defiantly be our first and only stop.

After trying for weeks to get Ikea to deliver me a bed I finally had to give up. I came to Van Winkle and they were able to show me affordable beds with no pressure to buy. He gave me a great deal on a mattress, boxspring, and frame and I got it delivered the same day in a convenient (and small) delivery window. It might not be as flashy as some other stores in Ann Arbor, but the service was fantastic.

Best mattress place around. The guy working there gave us his talk about what all the mattresses were and what he recommends based on how you like to sleep. Then he says enjoy testing the mattresses and leaves. He checks now and then to make sure you dont have any questions and leaves again. Very low pressure selling. When it comes to testing a mattress having privacy is a must and they deliver. We purchased a mattress and they said they could deliver it to our house in Hamburg Township (30 minutes away) same day! The same guy who sold us the mattress showed up and they hauled out our old mattress as well. Great customer service and great buying experience. Weve recommended them to family and they all bought their mattresses there as well.

It was a wonderful experience purchasing my mattress in Van Winkle company. The seller was a very kind man presenting all of his mattresses but not pushing me to buy one. I took my time and found my mattress. They also gave me a 10% discount as they saw my desire to find a matress in closeouts! Delivery fee was also cheaper than what I expected (45$ for inside delivery and setup in Ann Arbor).I recently came to US and Im not so good in English speaking, but they made me feel like purchasing in my own country! Last go-round, we bought a mattress from a regional chain which runs lots of T.V. ads. Our experience there led us to look elsewhere this time, and, oh, are we glad we did!We met the owner and one of his daughters in the showroom (btw: dont be dissuaded by the look of the building, which is connected to an auto repair shop!). He showed us the full range from lowest- to highest price, and suggested that we take our time sorting out the balance between budget and comfort. Then he left us alone, which was wonderful!He popped in occasionally to check in, but really allowed us to sort out what wanted on our own. We then arranged same-day delivery and old-mattress haul-out (each a small fee).Two very courteous young fellows arrived in the first half of the delivery window and sorted everything very efficiently, even checking back with the store about a question I had.Long story short, skip the big-name stores and visit these folks instead... A much better experience and value all the way around!

In Ann Arbor for 3 days, had to purchase/set up quick! Went to several stores, mentioned my frustration out loud and someone mentioned Van Winkle. So glad they did! What a breath of fresh air. They know their mattresses. They dont try to upsell, they just ask what you need and point you in that direction and let you shop. There is no haggling, the price is the price...and thats ok because it is far lower and fairer than all of the retailers we had visited the first 2 days. The bed was set up the next day by clean, respectful employees who removed their shoes to enter our home on a rainy day (and removed all wrappings and shipping refuse with them as they left).
