Great experience(s)! I would highly recommend to any nursing Moms.I was looking to connect with other Moms who are nursing and found the Breastfeeding Center of Ann Arbor. After reading about the Breastfeeding Cafe, I decided to attend on a Friday morning. I was nervous and didn’t know what to expect, but Barbara and the team are excellent. They provide an inviting and comfortable environment while offering support and advice. It’s wonderful to have a small community of support and to meet other local Moms who understand the joys and challenges of nursing. I wish I would have learned about the center sooner! I look forward to future visits.

I’m so glad we found the center. The staff are amazing and so knowledgeable. If you are having any issues breastfeeding they can help with it all. My husband and I learned so much in our one session with Jessica. They also have a weekly moms group that’s been great for support.

Working with Barbara was the key to our breastfeeding success - both physically and emotionally. She was knowledgeable, kind, respectful, understanding, and empathetic on our Zoom call (since we met with her during COVID). We had a lot of trouble at the beginning of our babys life with breastfeeding and Barbara was the only lactation consultant who empowered us to be successful. Barbara made everything easier - she provided us with a detailed and easy to follow plan and was available for any follow up questions. We highly recommend her!

Barbara was recommended to me by my sister-in-law after I expressed the frustrations of trying to find a nursing bra that was comfy and fit properly. I have three Kids under the age of three so it isn’t easy for me to go shopping and I’m hesitant to order things online since I never know what size I am. Barbara invited me to her office to be fitted for a bra. She was able to guess my correct cup size just by looking at me and immediately started handing me bras to try on. She was reassuring, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. I trusted her opinions and was able to get two new bras today! I am so pleased with the quick visit. I really enjoyed meeting Barbara and would definitely recommend her to anyone in need of finding a good nursing bra. I just wish I had found her sooner! It would have saved me a lot of tears ;)

We are so, so thankful for our experience working with Barbara and Jessica. Looking back, I only wish wed gone to see them sooner. I struggled through two months of painful and difficult nursing only to find out our daughter had a tongue and lip tie restriction that were making things super challenging for us. They were able to give us an initial diagnosis of the ties and refer us to a specialist, who we then saw for evaluation/treatment that made an OVERWHELMING difference. Jessica and Barbara also provided us with interim solutions/support to help with my milk supply and invited us back for weight checks to make sure that our nursing success was continuing to improve and that the tongue tie release solved our struggles (it did).We have been nursing easily and without pain for 2.5 months now and our daughter is a happy and healthy girl. I am so happy we opted to go see them!To any parents reading this who are pregnant or newly nursing, here are a few things I wish Id known/would tell my past self:- even if you feel like breastfeeding is going okay, make an appointment anyway. So many things that I thought were fine were NOT fine (discomfort, length of nursing sessions, etc). Best case scenario - you can get affirmation that everything is going great. Worst case scenario - something isnt exactly right, and you can get help quickly! Either way, its a win-win. (Even better: take a class/establish contact w/ BFCAA before baby arrives!)- the cost of a consultation is 100% worth it. When youre already grappling with paying bills for the birth (thanks a lot, US healthcare system), its hard to tack on another expense. We paid out of pocket for our consult initially, but our insurance did pick up the full cost once we submitted it to them. Even so, we walked out of our initial appointment in complete agreement it was worth the expense.- seriously, dont hesitate, just do it. I truly believe even if nursing had gone better for us from the start that I would have benefited from a consult in those early weeks just to boost my confidence and get some support as a new mom. I fell into the trap of thinking that because breastfeeding is natural that it would come naturally - not the case for me and for so many others. In fact, it is like a brand-new, full-time job that we receive zero training for unless we seek it out for ourselves. Im a firm believer now that every nursing parent should see a lactation consultant, and we highly recommend going to BFCAA!

As with the previous review, I dont even know where to begin. Barbara has completely changed our lives. Shes incredible! Breastfeeding and nursing were really important to me, but after a tough recovery and a slew of complications I was ready to give up completely. We had seen multiple lactation consultants during the first three weeks but our situation was not getting any better. Working with Barbara, and her wonderful intern, Jessica, has been an absolute gamechanger. Barbara creates a safe environment, takes time to get to know you, your partner, and your baby, asks great questions, and offers creative solutions. She picked up on issues that previously had gone unnoticed, offered tweaks that actually made nursing successful, helped to make pumping more comfortable, and created a care plan completely tailored to our needs. She helped us set realistic expectations, all the while remaining incredibly supportive and encouraging. Barbara and Jessica make such an amazing team! Our family is so grateful to them. After such a rough start with breastfeeding, I NEVER thought we would get to the point were I could exclusively nurse my baby, yet here we are! Thank you, Barbara!!

Barbara and her team have been extremely helpful and supportive as I navigate my breastfeeding journey with my little one. They generously offer a free weekly cafe to nurse and do weigh ins. I would recommend paying for a consult and then coming weekly to get the support and hang out with other nursing moms. My only regret is that I didnt see her sooner! While i still have some nursing challenges, just being around and hearing from other nursing mothers helps to normalize and learn new tricks to help make it easier.

Barbara’s experience, knowledge, attention to detail, and passion make her an incredibly helpful lactation consultant! I saw other LCs before meeting with Barbara and I really appreciated how she took the time to write out a personalized plan that I could refer back to. The breastfeeding cafe’s they offer are also incredibly helpful for follow up questions.

The breastfeeding center of an Arbor has helped me in several ways during my breastfeeding journey. Barbara is honest and will listen to your needs and concerns about breastfeeding. She boosted my confidence and assured I was doing what is right for my baby. Barbara creates a custom plan for you and your baby to support a positive breastfeeding experience. She is real and honest and will refer to other health professionals if their is another issue going on (I.e, tip/tongue tie, cranial sacral therapy). She truly cares about making breastfeeding work for her clients and their babies!I would highly recommend Barbara for breastfeeding support. I especially love the free breastfeeding support group. It’s a safe place where moms can come for support, tips/tricks about anything breastfeeding related.

I first heard about the Breastfeeding Center of Ann Arbor through my birth doula who recommended I check out the weekly breastfeeding cafe as a way to connect with other new mothers. I have been so grateful for the support and sense of community this group has provided during my fourth trimester - a time that sometimes felt overwhelming, isolating, and lonely. In addition to taking advantage of this wonderful, free support group, I also met with Barbara for a Back to Work consultation. Her expertise was invaluable in helping ease my anxieties about continuing to breastfeed/pump upon returning to work, and together we developed a personalized plan to help me achieve my breastfeeding goals. She also has a great selection of nursing and pumping supplies available. I was so relieved to finally have breast pump shields and nursing bras that fit properly! I highly recommend the Breastfeeding Center of Ann Arbor for any mom with an interest in breastfeeding.

If you are having concerns or stressors related to nursing I would not hesitate to book an appointment with Barbara. I had issues with latch and managing oversupply, which were taking a toll on my mental and physical health. I initially met with many hospital-based LC’s before setting an appointment with Barbara and her intern Jessica. The consultation was extremely thorough and Barbara provided referrals for specialists when needed. Because of her guidance and consultation I am able to breastfeed my baby.

I am so thankful to Barbara and Jessica for their help in our breastfeeding journey. We first met with Barbara the day after we got home from the hospital; I was extremely discouraged after being sent home from the hospital with formula and ill-fitting parts for my pump. I thought that I couldn’t breastfeed and that pumping was a super painful experience. After one visit with Barbara, my baby was exclusively on my breast milk! And she has continued to help us with technique and latch. I can honestly report that hiring Barbara and Jessica was one of the very best decisions we’ve made as new parents! I cannot recommend them enough!

Barbara is wonderful. She runs mom/baby breastfeeding cafe sessions where moms can get together and discuss the joys and challenges of parenting and nursing in particular. There is also a scale for you to weigh your baby if you are concerned about weight gain. These sessions kept me sane during my maternity leave! She also offers courses on going back to work (aka pumping) and more. I highly recommend this class for new mothers, as it teaches you things about pumping that the pump manual doesnt tell you! Barbara and her staff and volunteers are warm, relatable, and knowledgeable. She has a small store with nursing bras, breast pumps and replacement parts, nipple shields, etc. Ive even stopped by a time or two to pump in the back room when I needed a place to do so!If you have a more serious question or concern, Barbara is a trained IBCLC who can help you work through it. I consulted her formally with both of my babies and her advice was extremely helpful and kept me successfully nursing both kiddos! She is professional and friendly and makes new parents feel at ease. I cant say enough positive things about Barbara and the Breastfeeding Center of Ann Arbor.

Barbara is literally the BEST. I was to the point of losing my sanity after my first week of nursing and nearly gave up. I sent her a desperate email after being recommended to her via a local Facebook group, and she got me in to see her immediately. I’ve been nursing strong for more than twice as long as with my first two babies thanks to her, and I am so grateful! She has always taken the time to answer any questions that I have, her office is super cozy, her advice is priceless, and she’s such a sweetheart as well. My only regret is that I didn’t seek her help with my previous babies. If you want to nurse to you and your baby’s fullest potential, be SURE to get a consultation with her!

I can not recommend this place and Barbra enough. I drove an hour to get here because the local hospital to me was ZERO help. I exclusively pumped for my daughter for almost 4 months. As she is getting older it is increasingly harder to keep her entertained while I pump and I really did want to nurse but it just wasn’t working when she was born/in the hospital so I figured that was it. But I’m glad I stumbled upon this place and decided to make the plunge. ONE WEEK later we are exclusively nursing (except when I am away she gets a bottle, which is only about once per week) THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. If you are ever having any problems go here!!

I’m not really one to write reviews but I had to write one for Barbra. We really struggled in the beginning. We we’re going to the lactation clinic associated with my hospital; they were nice but not very helpful. I finally decided to attend Barbra’s breastfeeding cafe. I was so impressed because Barbra tried to help and I wasn’t even her client! I did end up seeing her for a consult and she helped so much! They also offer a breastfeeding cafe on one Monday night a month for working moms. It’s run by her intern Jessica who is also pretty awesome!

Barbara is the best! The hospital offered very little information about breastfeeding after I had my son- they only checked to see that he could latch. I had low supply, but did not know it until my infant began screaming all the time because he was hungry and losing weight (poor guy). Luckily someone recommended Barbara to me and she changed our lives!! She is knowledgable, confident (maybe because she knows EVERYTHING about breastfeeding), supportive, and professional. If you are having a baby and would like to breastfeed, Barbara has the skill set to help you meet all your breastfeeding goals. She is a one stop shop for all things breastfeeding + she offers a cafe for free- kind of like a support group for breastfeeding moms. I cant thank Barbara enough!!!!

I have attended the weekly Friday Breastfeeding Cafe a couple of times with my newborn. There have been 10-20 moms (with babies) there each time. Everyone has the opportunity to do a weigh in for their baby to track the babys growth and you can do a before/after feeding weight comparison too. Barbara and Jessica are welcoming and make time for everyone who is there. Importantly, they can help you figure out if your challenges can be helped with some small tips or require a follow up 1:1 consultation. I have also benefited from discussions with other moms there. Barbara had reliable information about medications and breastfeeding that doctors I had talked to were unaware of. She excels at her niche and has been doing it for a very long time. Even if you have seen another lactation specialist, it is worth coming here too.

When I first had my son, I started seeing one LC that was at first recommended by some friends. As this LC was a “doctor” I thought in my head, doctor means more school, more knowledge, boy was I wrong! After seeing that consultant for 3 months and being told the same thing day in and day out. I seeked our Barbra. I was so stressed when I first arrived that I had tried it all to get my production up and my baby was just not gaining weight.Barbra actually took the time to look up each and every one of my medications to see that they are breastfeeding safe and cause slow weight gain in babies. That in and of itself caused a huge weight to be lifted off my shoulders. My milk production is still low and I need to supplement but I am able to do so with donor milk through human milk for human babies, eats on feet’s and the Breastmilk donation for babies network of Michigan.Barbra is so knowledgeable, has two sons in their 20s and struggled herself with breastfeeding both. That’s why she learned to be a lactation consultant and hosts a weekly breastfeeding group!Seriously do not give up breastfeeding until you see Barbra! She’s the best in Ann Arbor!

Barbara is truly the best in the business. She treats all families with respect, and listens to their concerns. Not only does she listen to families but she knows the right advice to give so that whatever your breastfeeding goals are can be achieved. Personally I was given a lot of inaccurate information from IBCLCs in the hospital after having my son. Barbaras expertise and up to date knowledge were able to stear me in the right direction. Barbara was able to give me a lot of suggestions and a plan to work with at home. As a new mom I really like having an actual plan to use. If your on the fence about seeing an IBCLC think about the cost it will save you in buying formula over a year, its worth every penny. Just the peace of mind you get when you see her is worth it.Also Barbara has a free breastfeeding cafe on fridays where moms can get support , from Barbara and other mothers. It was a very welcoming atmosphere and just nice to be around other mothers. This is a great place to come and see if things are going correctly or if help is needed with a consultation.

I was a bit skeptical seeing this establishment listed in a search for ann arbor restaurants but I am so glad to have taken a leap of faith. It was Thursday - Date Night. My wife and I planned on going to Zingermans (as usual) but Date Night is sometimes adventurous. So, like the time we forewent Zingermans for Tios, this was one of those nights when we say, Why not?Boy, did we make the right decision!I found the atmosphere to be a little sterile but the wife enjoyed the camaraderie with the staff. The clientele is definitely on the young side, so us old fogies felt hip and cool.Fresh, mild, filling and consistent, I find this to be the best Comfort Food in Ann Arbor.5/5
