My daughter had an issue starting her car, which led to us towing it to Hoover Street Auto Repair. It turned out to be a easy fix but Tom and his team did a thorough assessment and got my daughter on her way quickly. Furthermore, the repair was so simple that we werent charged even though it took time to help us out. This was of course greatly appreciated!Great service & super responsive! Im committed to using Hoover Street Auto Repair for all of my future auto work in the Ann Arbor.

I cannot recommend this shop enough. My battery died late in the day, and other shops said they could help me within a week or so. When I called, Tom acknowledged that they were also backed up with appointments for a week, but offered to look at it. My car was unusable and despite how busy they were, I was back on the road in less than 24 hours. They were efficient and kind, and will continuously have my business.

I’m on the hunt for a reliable used car for my daughter and brought two possible candidates to Hoover Street Auto Repair for a pre-purchase inspection. They were very busy and couldn’t get me in for a full inspection, but took time to look the cars over. The quick inspection revealed several critical issues with both cars, saving me thousands of dollars. Christian and Tom wouldn’t take any money for these inspections since they weren’t able to get the cars up on a lift and do a full inspection. They were professional and incredibly helpful and I’ll be bringing my own vehicle here for service from now on. These guys are great!

Honest shop! They are great with communication about what’s important work to get done and what can wait. A bit on the pricier side, but reliable for sure. They super kindly did a quick fix when I was in the area and the undercarriage on my car started dragging, and they didn’t charge me for the help. Made my day!

They were very accommodating to my schedule and were able to send me repair information online. I spoke with Ed today because I live in Connecticut and I’m driving to Michigan on Friday with my Nissan Rogue 2015. I get nervous because I have 93,000 miles on the car and although I keep up with the maintenance very well I sometimes do some overkill just to prevent any breakdowns. Let’s face it, no one wants to have a problem with their car right in the middle of Pennsylvania!! I spoke with Ed because I was concerned about the coils and thought as long as I was there, just to be safe maybe I should have them replaced. He reassured me that at that mileage I should be fine. They are not due for replacement until 100,000 miles and didn’t see any need to just replace them if I’m not having any issues. He was not in a rush to take my money and offered to even do an inspection before the trip home if I was nervous. What a lovely, polite gentleman. There should be more places like this and people like Ed. Highly recommend this shop!!!

A few weeks ago I got the dreaded news that my 2009 Subaru Forester was experiencing head gasket issues. As many Subaru owners know, this is both a pricey and frustrating diagnosis. Do I repair the parts? Or do I trade it in? After weighing my options and deciding to repair I called several mechanics in the area. Some never returned my calls, some quoted but never really worked on a Subarus before, and all of them gave a vague explanation of the issue and possible fixes. Until I found Hoover Street Auto Repairs website. They provided in detail description of the issue, possible fixes, and within a day of submitting for a quote had a detailed response for me. Ed, answered all my questions, no matter how small. He made sure I understood everything that was going to be done and followed up with me everyday they had my car letting me know where they were at and if we were on track. The best part, I never once had to go in person. I spoke to Ed via the phone and email. I was able to drop off my car after business hours using their secure key drop box/lock box. Will definitely be coming back for future repairs.

Someone knocked the mirror off my car the day before I had to move. Hoover auto went above and beyond trying to help me fix it despite not being able to have access to a lot of their resources due to the power being out in a lot of Ann Arbor. As an addendum to my review from earlier today: The general manager from Hoover Street Auto contacted me within a couple hours of my posting. After a discussion, I do believe that this business means well and cares very much about their service. I cant claim to fully understand the technical explanation offered, but, nonetheless the bottom line seems to be a communication breakdown. Mike was apologetic for my experience at Hoover and receptive to my feedback. Hes making changes with his team regarding how certain repairs (and what they entail) are communicated to the customer.

I had a fantastic experience with Hoover. I am relatively new to the area and didnt know where to take my car. Luckily I was referred to Hoover where I received swift and kosher customer and mechanical service. I now feel confident driving off to the Wild West on my first ever road trip.Also, I learned after servicing my car that Hoover has a built in rewards system which provides clients with the option to channel their rewards towards future visits OR a select nonprofit. I find this to be reflective of Hoovers awareness of the importance of community support and how expenses of vehicular maintenance can be a barrier for many individuals.

I came here with high expectations due to the high rating, but I was disappointed. Ed is a scammer. He tacked on services I didnt explicitly ask for. He created confusion by speaking very fast when running through the work they would perform. I wont deny that I did in fact authorize the services, but I find it incredibly dishonest to not explicitly and clearly ask if I wanted the extra services. When I confronted him whether he thought what he did was shady, he did not answer and told me that the manager would call me back. I never received a call. I will not be returning here.

Stopped by with no appointment because my car overheated. I couldnt have asked for more friendly service! They had me on my way again in less than an hour, and my cars been running great ever since. I would definitely recommend this shop for people on the move.

I am from Arizona and was visiting family in Ann Arbor last week. While checking my oil, I discovered a hole in the serpentine belt. I was leaving for Arizona the following morning and needed the belt replaced immediately. I also needed the right front axle replaced as there was a problem with it. They took the work, without an appointment, at 10:00 AM on a Friday and had the work completed by 3:00PM. They were busy with other jobs but worked me in because I was leaving for Arizona the next day.It is always difficult when you are a long way from home to find an honest repair shop. Hoover Street Auto went above and beyond to get the car ready for the trip West the next day.These guys run an honest shop. They are professional and incredibly good communicating with their customer. There prices are fair and reasonable. I wish they had a shop in Phoenix.

The customer service at Hoover Street is fabulous. Helpful, reliable and trustworthy. We had a problem with our A/C and the service repair shop at the dealer said it was our air compressor (which was shocking to us given the age of our car) and quoted us a pretty high price for a repair. We took our car to Hoover for a second opinion and the skilled mechanics there diagnosed the true source of our problem (not the compressor) and fixed it with no hassle (and at almost half the cost). Cant say enough about how great this shop is.

Straight forward folks with solid service. They were able to fix all my problems the same day (of my scheduled appointment) and had me back on the road earlier than I expected. Will definitely be returning when more repairs are needed.

Seems like theres a new crew and the attention to detail is a work in progress. My hood was not closed properly and the oil change sticker said 47,000 when my odometer was at 147,000 and my door had a hand print of grease on it.

Hoover Auto is GREAT! Ive taken my car there several times. Most recently, I had to abandon my car nearby due to a severe scraping sound that sounded unsafe to drive. They were able to squeeze me in between appointments to diagnose the cause---some debris got into the undercarriage and dislodged a heat shield into my break pads. They fixed the issue quickly and for a minimal cost. I had my car back just a few hours later. Very kind people.

When I bought my new Jeep for some reason I felt that the dealership would be the best place to have service done. I couldnt have been more wrong. I came back to Hoover Street and will never leave. I feel confident that any issue with my car will be diagnosed accurately, explained to me honestly, and fixed appropriately. They stand by their work. They are also the friendliest and most caring people in the service industry I have met.

This was a great place to temporarily fix my stuck sunroof. I was visiting Ann Arbor when it got stuck and we were concerned about traveling back with an opened sunroof. I got there and Tom take a look at it and fixed it probably in 20 minutes. They did not charged us since it was a quick and temporary fixed. I strongly recommend this place and I will have it in mind when I move to Ann Arbor.

Ed helped me replace a shattered headlight without an issue or charge. He even gave me some good advice on defogging the lights.

Having worked as an ASE certified technician, in the past I have performed my own repairs and maintenance on my 04 Vibe. Currently, I commute one hour to work full time in mental health care and have a full time class load in college. Getting my vehicle serviced quickly was fairly important to me.Hoovers after hours drop off and pick up was flawless and extremely convenient for me. I dropped my car after-hours on Thursday, and was contacted first thing in the morning on Friday. Technicians took clear photographs of failing parts and sent them to me via text link. Customer service and technicians provided me with timely updates, and my vehicle, which required control arm replacement, valve cover gasket replacement, full brake service, and exhaust repair was completed before 5pm the same day. To pay, I was sent a link via text and made my payment online. After payment was received, Hoover texted me a lock box number and one time combination to retrieve my keys.Pricing at Hoover is fair and competitive. They are not the cheapest shop, but they are far from the most expensive.Friendly and professional contact free service. I would absolutely do business with them again.

Im not that good with cars, but I know that I need to take care of mine. Called ahead to ask for prices and if they could replace a headlight that went out. Tom replaced my headlight in less than 10 minutes and was kind enough to cover it for me. Super attentive place, he listened to my probably repetitive and basic questions and explained/answered them very simply and professionally. If I ever need anything else done Im coming to Hoover.

Took my car in for some battery trouble, and a leak was found in my transmission coolant line as well. The team at Hoover was able to repair the leak and straighten out the battery trouble for a reasonable price and got it all done the same day. Throughout the entire process Tom was honest, straightforward, and in constant communication with me about my car.

I had the best experience for car repair service that I’ve ever had. AHONEST. HONEST. HONEST! After looking at my car they gave me a really clear description of what was wrong with the car and whether it was a good investment to fix the problem. (The car had some many problems, that to Fix what I brought it in for, would not be worth it.) You will always be able to get an appointment within a few days and they are easy to get ahold of. They always call you to give you a quote and explain things before doing any work. I never feel like they try to force me to get unnecessary repairs. Last week, I brought my car in for what I thought was a fluid leak. These guys are great. My college daughter needed her tail light replaced and the tire pressure light also was on. They took her in right before closing and took care of the minor repairs and sent her on her way in just a few minutes - with no charge! Awesome service. Great! Unfortunately the tensioner and serpentine belt had to be replaced, but the tech was able to quickly diagnose the problem and the repair was done the very next day. I have been going to Hoover Street Auto for nearly 10 yrs. They serviced at least 5 cars for us. They do a great job. Knowledgeable, honest efficient. Mike is excellent. I just moved to Ann Arbor and desperately needed my car serviced. I usually just take my car to a dealer because it is easier, but I decided to give Hoover Street a try because of the reviews. I was not disappointed. They had my inspection done within an hour of dropping my car off, and didnt push me to repair everything that was wrong, as I am looking for a new car and just wanted to make my current one safe to drive. They sent me a detailed description of everything they inspected with pictures included. My car was done by 4:30 the same day, which never happens at the dealership. I couldnt pick up my car until later because I work a late shift, so they put my key in a lock box so that I could get it after work. Overall, it was a great experience as a newcomer to Ann Arbor. I will definitely recommend them to all of my friends!

Update: Hoover Street Auto was there for me in the middle of the quarantine when my car just stopped working. They took my car in a respectful, cautious and no-contact manner. I felt completely safe. They also performed the needed work on time and at a reasonable cost.Hoover Street Auto is exceptionally honest, reliable and fast.Professional from start to finish! I was treated with respect and kindness as I explained the history of my hybrid vehicle and what I thought needed to be addressed. When the work performed was communicated to me later, it was made clear what should to be done asap and what could wait. Living within a budget, that was extremely valuable to feel at least a little in control of my $. I will be back.

One day my tire pressure light went on despite the fact that my dad had my car checked out before I came out to college with it. Nonetheless, I was scared that I might get overcharged and I wouldnt even know as I know nothing about cars, but Hoover Street Auto Repair worked to find out what was wrong with the tire and found nothing, so they just reset my tire pressure to the exact right amount and charged me nothing. This came as a surprise as I was expecting to pay at least something but I payed nothing at all. Overall, they are very professional, on time, and good quality from my experience.

Drove up to drop daughter off at U Mich. Major rear brake issues and called day before we were heading home. Ed and his team took me right away and had my car fixed and back to me in several hours. Highly recommend.

Professional, fair, honest, and excellent service! Ive come to Hoover for the 3 years Ive lived in Ann Arbor. They do an excellent job each time and are really transparent about timelines and cost. TBH Im clueless when it comes to cars but they always meet me at my level without talking down to me, and never try to talk me into work that isnt necessary.
