The two male employees opening May 30, 2021 were aggressively rude, with no respect for the company or brand they represent. Their lack of any customer service was apparent by the yelling and blatant disrespect of my wife and I when we had simple questions that they should have been able to answer without their disgustingly poor attitude. Ive never had an interaction with a customer service person that cared so little about their customers and so easily referenced not my job. One passed us off to the other and the other reluctantly gave us their managers phone number after we asked for it multiple times. Their manager called us to apologize and sent a coupon for a future move but it was a little too late for this location. She said she was new and will be fixing things, hoping for their future customers sake, change happens.

Diane was AWESOME. Local customer service could not have been better. After receiving erroneous information from someone in Alabama, ignorant of conditions in Alaska, who promised us services not yet available here, Diane did some very creative maneuvering to get us the U-boxes we needed, and for the time we needed. Her communication was top notch throughout the process. HIGHLY recommend for as stress free a move as possible.

We rented a truck for a small move. Stopped in in the morning. Everyone was wonderful and helpful and we got outta there super quickly. Edward was particularly helpful. Was a great experience. HOWEVER, upon returning at about 330pm, there was very little staff around. One guy cleaning vans with his earphones in. One guy behind the counter, who announced to the man in line in front of me that he had 1.5 hours of overtime and was leaving right now. And did. Leaving no one to help us in line. No one around. NO ONE. So I went and found some poor lady and said, we have to go, weve paid, heres the keys.So, I was really hopeful of giving a great review. But the afternoon group on Aug 11, just did not impress. They barely even showed up. Customer Service is so important. I know its hard to find humans and stuff, but wow. Walked away from customers in line? Really?

Great Service! Great Experience!I read the reviews for all the U-Haul business in Anchorage and many of them are negative. Im happy to say that my experience was positive, so here are ( 5 TIPS ) to help make your experience positive too!1. Call 2-3 days prior to renting. Some of the rentals require a 24 hour notice. I called twice after 5PM, on hold twice for over 20 minutes, and I had to hang-up twice. Call earlier in the day to reach a U-Haul employee.2. Look at the dimensions of the U-Haul rental online. If you rent a (6x12) Cargo Trailer youll need to know the door opening is (410x5) if you plan to load something large.3. Rentals have a return time, so make sure you know when to return the rental! I rented a 12 utility trailer at 8AM and I was told to return it by 2PM.4. You cant rent from one U-Haul location and return it at another without asking permission. The Traffic Manager must allow the return to another U-Haul location.5. Returning the U-Haul rental to another U-Haul location IS NOT FREE! I rented a 12 utility trailer for $44.95 and the cost to drop off at another location wouldve been another $44.95.If these tips were helpful please click that like button!

The employee tried to charge $253 for a 15 footer. This does not include the mileage you pay afterwards. We were so surprised at this price that we went to a different Uhaul store to get a comparison price. They only charged $60. Dont go here if you like to keep your money.

I tried to use the app so I could pick up the truck outside contactless but still ended up having to go inside and wait and talk to an incredibly rude manager. He had zero customer service skills, threatened to not rent me the truck because I wasnt listening to his yelling at me well enough. The other employees were pleasant. And they accidentally charged me an extra day they had to refund but said nothing about the guy yelling at me in front of other customers. They obviously dont care if you come back or not. Zero stars.

Both this place and the place on Boundary is terrible. Made a reservation with the Old Seward store for the boundary store and somehow they messed it up so I went to the boundary store and they said my reservations at the Old Seward store wasted like 2 hours out of my life

Slow moving people. Codes don’t work right away and I swear the gas gauges are all broke. Had to wait outside for 30 minutes before my dang code worked. Hiring a moving company would prob be cheaper and less hassle.

This is my first review I have ever posted, but I am super disappointed in the customer service at this U-Haul. Judging by the comments from before COVID-19 this place is very understaffed and you can expect to be in line for over 30-40 minutes just to get boxes or any type of service. If you call they will keep you on hold. If management is reading this HIRE MORE PEOPLEIf I could Id give a tenth of star of 5 star rating!

They falsely claim that they cannot put studded tires on their one way vehicles because it is illegal in Canada where the vehicles can drive through.It is not illegal during the winter, they are legal during the same dates they are in Alaska. Infact certain parts of Canada REQUIRE winter tires between Dec. 15th and March 15th.This business also does not put other winter tires on their vehicles because they are too cheap. All season tires unless they have the mountain with a snow flake have not passed tests in winter driving conditions. This means that they are not true all season tires, just summer tires which are dangerous on a 2WD vehicle driving long distances such as those between Anchorage and Fairbanks.For your safety for long drives during the winter, look elsewhere.

Every time i call to pay a storage bill, I get put on hold for 15+ minutes. With their constant negative attitude, its hard to justify why i spend so much money every month on my storage unit. Will be consolidating my items and relinquishing my business from uhaul. Would not recommend to anybody.

Theyve got a huge selection of rental equipment at reasonable prices. Booking a reservation for an enclosed trailer online really helped me with a recent move. I work out of town but was able to have the trailer standing by when I returned, complete with an appliance dolly, packing paper and plenty of cardboard boxes. The staff will hook and unhook the trailer for you as well during pickup and drop off, just make sure your vehicle is equipped for towing (they can probably set that up to, but Im not sure) and its a really painless process. Thanks for making my move a little easier!

I rented a truck from them at 9:20am and returned with it promptly at 9am the following day, but sat in line for 25 minutes waiting to get a receipt. I found out they charged me for another day due to their own slowness after looking at the receipt, but I didnt have time to stay and dispute it, so I guess I just lose the $40+ dollars to the ether. I will not be renting from this location again.

Do not use this location to install your hitch. I had to spend $400+ to install the hitch and wiring, not including the $300 I paid for the hitch or the receiver. They charged me for 4 hours of labor even though it literally took 1.5 hours to install. Finally, halfway through Canada, the wiring broke due to the fact that they left it dragging on the ground. GO TO SIX ROBLEES. Support local, and they do a better job for an HONEST price.

The truck they rented out to me had the power steering going out. I could feel there was something weird happening but didnt know what until I got back and they told me what was wrong. Also, the tires were balding really bad and it was still icy and freezing out. Tried contacting customer service and never got a response. Wouldnt recommend renting from them unless they take extra steps to make sure the trucks are in SAFE working order. Cant believe they were so careless.

This facility has horrible customer service and gives U-Haul a bad name. I filed a formal complaint with U-Haul and then took my business elsewhere. The U-Haul on Boundary Ave. was so helpful and friendly Im not sure why customers are being routed to the one on Old Seward. We booked online and paid in advance for a hitch to put on our vehicle. We showed up for the first appointment and was told that the installer called in sick. NO phone call ahead of time to tell us not to come. Rescheduled appointment and when we showed up for the second appointment they informed us they didnt have the parts to even install it. No phone call ahead of time again. Desperately needing this hitch installed we rescheduled for a third appointment. We asked (more like begged) for a phone call if for any reason they werent able to keep this appointment. Guess what happened? You got it 3rd appointment, we show up and they arent able to install it. At this point I am done with them. I called another store and they not only had the parts to install but said the store could have called over and got the parts from them. The U-Haul on Boundary was able to get us in the next day early in the morning so we didnt have to cancel our trip for lack of a hitch. The only reason this store got one star is because giving them none wasnt an option!

Went here twice because of its proximity. Both times there is a long line and only one person at the counter. Both times took half an hour just to get to the said counter and people kept showing up then leaving due to the wait. I dont know if its understaffed or this is standard operation. As of this writing, 10 minutes till closing, one customer is haggling over priced and getting a walkthrough of different storage units. If there is any kind of management on premises they need to keep an eye on this toward close. Either assign someone to help, or man a counter yourself for a few. This way you dont have a line of people waiting half an hour at an empty counter while the lone salesman does a walking tour for someone.... Who admittedly did not plan on getting a unit today. Better yet have a manager take that over so the salesman can get other customers through.

The Anchorage Uhaul on Old Seward is a terrible place . The staff acts as if they are doing you a favor by being there; not helpful or friendly at all. Id say they need training, but it would be best if they did not work with the public.

We rented a trailer to tow my car on recently... I will NEVER rent a single item from any type of uhaul facility again. The equipment we got was old and unreliable we drove through Canada and in the middle of no where the trailer broke on us .. making it worse I am pregnant and it put us both including our in born child in so much danger considering we were stuck. We were stuck for a total of four hours this first time until someone could get to us to fix it... from there on something went flat or broke almost every day of our trip delaying us so much.. my husband is military and we had a specific amount of time... now we did get reimbursed a small portion but nothing considering the danger inconvenience and cost of the hotels which were not cheap at all where we broke down... and when we finally turned the equipment in the people we dealt with couldn’t even find any equipment in our name! It’s a good thing we’re honest and took it back! They kept no record after the third break down!I would highly suggest working through another company especially if you want something reliable.

I have been going to this place for last 10 years and have had positive experience in the past but recently, I went there to rent a 15 ft truck and this guy named Timothy Adams approached, racially profiled me and treated me the worst way possible. Known from previous experience, they let you return vehicle within 24 hours but he insisted me that I return the vehicle within a couple hours and if not, he will charge me extra fee. Then I asked another one of their staff if the rules changed and found out it has not. Timothy just wanted to make this inconvenient for me, with his attitude, body language, and the way he talked. One or two of such type of people would easily ruin a good reputation that a company already has. Please train your staff . Extremely dessapointed. Will definitely not return again.

Phenomenal customer service! I was there on a Friday preparing to move to Fairbanks, and my dad brought his truck and hitch. Turns out he had the wrong size ball, and no key to unlock it. They went above and beyond to remedy the situation, taking time out of their day at no extra cost to literally cut off the hitch key and provided a loaner hitch with the right size and we were on our way! I was already impressed by their friendly manner but utterly blown away by the extra care they took in getting us what we needed in a very stressful moment.

Probably the slowest, most inefficient and most incompetent attempt at appointment, scheduling, phone service and handling of the attempted trailer hitch. Finally after 6 hours they said they didnt have the parts and couldnt find the car.. Good thing the appointment was made 3 weeks in advance.! We went across the street - It is far SUPERIOR to U-haul!

Had a truck reserved, when we went in to pick it up, the guy at the desk started helping the people behind us while we were still sitting at the desk. Had to continually get his attention back on us to wrap up the reservation. Then they tried charging me for 91 miles driven when I only drove 26. Have been trying to get someone to call me back for DAYS about this. Nobody from the store has contacted me back, despite them insisting that someone would. Never going to U-Haul again.

I have had two trailer hitches installed here and rented one trailer for a long trip.Both hitch installation appointments were rescheduled due to the parts not arriving. Both cars I was told were ready and when I Ubered there was told the installer hadn’t finished yet.The trailer rented for a long trip (moving out of state) was scheduled a month in advance and was rented out when we came to pick it up. After 2 hours of searching, one was found at a location 3 hours away. We drive the 3 hours each way to pick up the trailer since they would not drive it themselves.Lastly, don’t expect to catch this location on the phone. They immediately put you on hold for 8-20 minutes in my experience.Conclusion: Understaffed, unreliable and unreasonable when getting hitched installed or renting trailers for time sensitive moves.

Check the equipment before you send it over 3,000 miles. lights were too dim to drive at night. the trucks engine brakes would stop and rpm would drop to 0. they didnt have the equipment i reserved 6 weeks in advance available when i went to pick it up. The manager said she didnt think i would need a full trailer for my car. There was a reason I reserved it. With the tow dolly for the car I cant go in reverse and did get stuck and had to disconnect everything and reattach. The trailer had faulty wiring and lights would flash. parts needed to be oiled/greased on the trailer. truck was too dirty to drive i had to clean mirrors and windshield as soon as i got the truck. I think they gave me the truck and trailer to get it out of there store and back to the lower 48 because of its very poor condition. I wouldnt think any other store would send this equipment that far in the condition it was in.

Numerous examples of a poorly run place, but the best was someone had blocked me in from leaving. The person (seemingly in their own vehicle) was talking to an employee. They were laughing and carrying on with one another, all while I waited to leave. Then, the person gets out of their vehicle and walks away. And its not as though they had just blocked me into a parking spot, but rather I was pulling around from the back of the building to leave and had to stop for them. More than one employee was in view of all this and said nothing that they may want to move their vehicle and not block the exit. Its a really tight lot to begin with. Not once did I have a positive experience going to this place.

Based on our experience, I would say management, staff training, and communication at this Uhaul is completely broken down. We called this Uhaul on Saturday to ask if they had a class three hitch and plug and play wiring harness for our vehicle. They said they had both, so we drove there immediately. When we arrived, they said they had the hitch, but not the plug and play harness. We bought the hitch and tried in vain to find a plug and play harness elsewhere. We finally gave up and called Saturday afternoon to make an appointment for hard wiring, since we couldnt find a plug and play. They said they did have the plug and play harness in stock. We explained we were just there and they said they didnt have it. After looking into it, they said they had one in stock but they couldnt sell it to us because it MIGHT be reserved (apparently it was in their computer system with no notes stating it was reserved, but it had been pulled from the shelves so they didnt know if it was reserved or not). So we would have to go with hard wiring. We made an appointment for them to install the wiring harness on Sunday at 10:00am. On Sunday at 9:30am, they called to say they dont do hard wiring on weekends. And their next available appointment is next Friday. This has been an intensely frustrating experience.

Ive been going to this location for over a decade, and have never had a problem. Recently I rented a U-Haul from this location to dispose of 128 of fencing that I replaced a week ago. After loading up the fence and driving down the road the U-Haul started sputtering a bit until it shut off, I couldnt get the U-Haul to turn back on so I called the U-Haul road side service hotline, they immediately got a driver and got the towing company to come pick me up. I was a little frustrated but nothing over the top, and nothing I cant handle. The tow arrived within 10 minutes of the incident and I was hauled back to U-Haul. I ended up having to move the contents to a different U-Haul as my first wouldnt start but that was fine with me. It was a pretty nerve racking experience but I can tell you every last staff member at this location handled the situation extremely well. Everyone was extremely nice, professional, and experienced. They really made a bad situation good, and I appreciate them for their efforts. Thanks.

Called multiple times, with most of them ending up with there regional phone system. There operators kept giving me the run around and contact the specific store but that store only answered 2 of the 8 times called. When someone at the store finally answered and an appointment set up, was told 2.5-3 hours, adapting my schedule around that time frame. When the appointment time came, the mechanic informed me that they always have problems with European spec tow package installs. They constantly cause electrical problems when they do the installations putting those vehicles in the shop for weeks to months to re-wire and replace computer system. The time quoted was also several hours off from what the mechanic said it would take. Only reaso why one star was inputted is because the mechanic admitted that they should NOT be doing installation of tow package to ANY European vehicle. Next review will be to the dealership that recommend using U-Haul in the first place.

DO NOT GET A HITCH INSTALLED here. They rescheduled me 3 separate times and when I went to pick up my car the mechanic said he had to ‘jerry rig’ the eclectronics to make it work...WHAT!? To make matters worse, the second time I went in to pick up the car they said they had left me a voicemail after they called saying the car really wasn’t ready...They left the voicemail on a wrong phone number.

I have rented trucks there for 20 years. in the beginniing before their computer systems, it was touch and go as to how long the process would take in terms of getting your truck. now things have evolved to the better and I have to say u-haul purgatory is over. I have never had a terribly positive experience here, it doesnt help that any calls here can be routed to the lower 48.When getting my hitch to install myself they were clueless on any detail included. Glad i did it myself. The place is very understaffed and has been the same since about the 90s.Called the day prior to getting a truck and the lady on the phone tried to misrepresent availability, fishing for my card to reserve a truck that i cant be sure will be here when you arrive. Yet, the next morning i pull up and the lot is packed with rental trucks. There were plenty of employees from what i saw, which was much different from my previous trips. Renting a truck is way more sketchy and seems like a huge liability in more ways than 7 from what i remember. The truck works at least, and we will see how i fare returning it.

Terrible Customer Service. A woman answered the phone and almost immediately, with out warning, began yelling at someone else that was in the store with her, followed by not apologizing for interrupting our phone conversation to rudely interact with someone else. I made a reservation and gave her the name of the person picking it up and was not given a reservation number. Apparently our current phone number was under someone elses name, which I said had been a previous secretary, but that he has had MANY. She assured me that they would easily change that when the person picked up the truck. When my boss went to pick up the truck, they told him there was no reservation and that I would have been given a reservation number if there had been one. After my boss returned to inform me that they sent him away without finding any reservation, I called the same woman I had talked to before and she had no problem pulling it up, WITHOUT any numbers. This was some of the worst customer service I have experienced in a long time.

U-hauls online reservation system is a goat rope. I reserved a 10 box truck online. When I showed up to pick up the truck I was told that they had none available and my reservation had been cancelled. They called my home phone (not my preferred contact method) an hour after I showed up to tell me this. Most unimpressive.

Ive never had a good experience with this location. Ive used this location twice in the last couple years and Ive gotten nebulous answers from their customer service reps. This last case in particular I was assisting my mother in moving to Palmer. We tried to return the truck when I got a call from the Anchorage Old Seward office telling us the truck was due back all the way in Anchorage. We had the rep in the Matsu Valley office check for us, and he also told us we couldnt return it to the Matsu office. This led to us having to drive the truck all the way back to Anchorage incurring additional rental time, mileage and gas costs. I told the rep we were moving TO Palmer, and he never mentioned to me it wasnt a one way rental? Absolutely atrocious. Ill never rent from this location again.

I havent had experience with UHaul beyond the two times I rented a van from the Old Seward location. Perhaps other locations are better. The customer service with the main company is certainly better. In fact, I would rate the central number for U-Haul at a 4 or 5. This review focuses on the Old Seward branch.The first time I rented a UHaul van, they tried to charge me an exorbitant cleaning fee for returning blankets I rented. As I did not buy but rented blankets, I assumed I was supposed to return them. I left them in the van and UHaul charged more than twice the cost of the rental. Was I supposed to drop them into a bin? I still dont know.The second time I used UHaul, I returned the keys and truck within 3 hours of renting the truck. The woman at the desk told me, thanks and that I could leave. The next day I got a call saying I hadnt returned the truck. Oh, also, if youre not careful and do not read the fine print, they will add on extra coverage and extra insurance that you can opt out of and that your normal car insurance likely covers.I think UHaul at Old Seward could really benefit from:1. better training of its staff2. better supervision of its staff3. consistent and clear directions to customers4. promoting long-lasting customers who want to continue to use its services instead of seizing opportunities to tack on hidden chargesIf you live in Alaska, you have friends with trucks. Borrow their truck. Give them gas money. UHauls service is clearly more stressful than beneficial.
