Only great things to say and Im looking forward to more with Dustin in the coming years. My zero-experience sons and I ice-fished last week with Dustins set up. He tolerated odd logistics (I had no phone), was patient with kids, flexible, and we were perfectly equipped. All at very reasonable price. To me Dustin represents the best of small, committed business and is a great ambassador for visitors to AK.

Jake at the bait shack was very helpful with showing us the prices for rental rods including fishing license, bait & best times to fish for the king salmon according to high tides. Very honest & shared his secrets about how to catch.

Jake was the best guide and fishing partner we could’ve asked for! He was very, very knowledgeable and so much fun! It was because of the Bait Shack that we will treasure the amazing experience we had those 2 days! Thank you all so much 💙

Nothing but positive things to say here. And we didnt even go fishing. We got to AK a little later in the year but still wanted to do some salmon fishing. Went down and talked to Dustin, fully prepared to get licenses and rentals for the day. He was very candid and said that the fishing season was pretty much over for Ship Creek. We could still go out, but he was very honest about what our expectations should be.I really appreciated his honesty and professionalism. He could easily have taken advantage of our naivety and made a couple hundred bucks, but he didnt. Honest business practices are hard to come by these days, and I just wanted to say thank you to the Bait Shack. We will definitely be back earlier next year, and know right where to go.

This guy is straight forward, honest and runs such a unique business. We got waders, poles, tackle boxes, bait and a net for two people for 3 days for a great price. And he will filet your fish and vacuum bag it for tips. You cannot buy your license here though.We will def come here next time we are in Anchorage.

Great place to catch a salmon even when you dont have a ton of time in Anchorage. Swing by the Shack, rent all the gear you need, bait, and even a guide if you like. Next thing you know, Fish On!

Had a good experience. Our guide, Dillon, did a great job of changing/mixing up the lure/bait and moving our locations to generate action. For the level of convenience highly recommend.

So we didn’t catch anything! But in all fairness, we had no idea what we were doing. Jake was a great guide. He was funny, friendly, and a good teacher. We learned how to fish and had a great afternoon.

They were extremely helpful and informative. We rented tackle, poles, waders, and a net. We also bought our fishing license there. Great customer service!

This place is so awesome! You can rent everything you will need for Salmon fishing from the shop, which is RIGHT next to the river! There are even fish cleaning sites provided!!

Stopped by the Bait Shack on a busy Wednesday night just to ask questions and learn more about the experience. Jake was there and really knowledgeable and got us booked for a guided fishing trip the next night. When we got there the next night Jake and Dillion were ready and excited to get going (despite being out in the water for 12 hours already). The excitement level of both Jake and Dillion made the fishing experience a 10! We are thankful for the knowledge they taught us and an for amazing experience on the creek. One of the highlights of our trip. Just wish we both would have caught one early so Jake and Dillion could have earned a much deserved early night off. Thanks Bait Shack - Thanks Jake and Dillion.

Dustin called and left a very personable impression by apologizing and offering to take my Dad and me out fishing free of service in order to make it up to us. Top notch local business and must have been a hiccup amongst the largest salmon competition of the year.—-Update—-I regret to write this review, but The Bait Shack spoiled our family’s Father’s Day. We had booked a charter to do King Salmon Fishing and flew from Pennsylvania looking forward to our trip. We were called at 7pm the night before our planned trip and were told that our trip was canceled for a “miss-booking” on a day dedicated to a trophy fishing ceremony. The representative on the phone said that he’d talk to his manager and look into alternatives early next week but proceeded to drop the call and never call back. I dialed their business 3 more times during open hours and no one ever responded. With this late of notice, we scrambled and called 20 other charter companies around the Kenai River and Anchorage areas and found much better customer service. I wanted to agree with the reviews on the Bait Shack that I saw online, but I feel compelled to inform both locals and tourists to proceed with caution before using this service.

I came up to Alaska on a short notice and decided that I wanted to do some ice fishing. Dustin was kind enough to take me out on an amazing experience. I have fished several times in the past, although he was very attentive and was so happy to teach me the tricks of the trade when it came to ice fishing, as it was my first time ever doing it. The man goes through a lot of work to make sure everyone he takes out has a pleasant fun experience, and of course catches a lot of nice fish. He even vacuum seals your fish for you for free so you can bring it back home with you. He’s extremely kindhearted and simply wants everyone to have a great time. I wish there were more people in the world who are as kind as this man. He’s also a fishing genius! Will come back again in the summer to do some King Salmon fishing with him!

Have what you Want to Slay Salmon and Shwag to Buy !

Im visiting Anchorage with my family and decided to take my two kids for fishing. They have never done it so I thought it would be fun to take them. After doing some research on Google, I decided to visit Bait Shack to rent the fishing equipments since it has very good review on Google. Based on the reviews, it appears the owners are very knowledgeable and friendly, so I decided to rent from them. When I arrived, I walked passed the owner who was helping a lady at the time. He appeared very friendly and had a big smile on his face while helping her. I thought to myself Ive come to the right place. After about 30 seconds, the owner finished helping the lady and walked into the shop. Immediately I noticed something wrong. He stared at me with an annoyed and disdained look in his eyes and said to me, What do you want? I was a bit surprised by his unfriendly look, then I told him I was looking for information about the rental package. He pointed me to to a flyer and said coldly that all the information are on there and it costs $90 for everything. I went through the flyer quickly and couldnt figure out what does Everything includes. For example, does it include the boots? So I politely asked the owner if the $90 package also includes the boots. The owner then looked at me with a very angry look on his face and said in a raised tone, I SAID EVERYTHING. At that time, I immediately realized that the owner doesnt want my business and left the store. Im not sure what exactly caused the owner to be so hostile towards me. Was it the way I look, my ethnicity, or the way I was dressed? (I was in a t-shirt and shorts with slippers on if youre curious). I was even more curious why the owner was so friendly with the previous customer and 30 seconds later, he can completely switch and be so hostile. I hope this doesnt happen to anyone else. Life is too short to have so much hostility and hatred my friend.

Great place! One-stop-shop for everything you need to start fishing. Everything from permits to equipment rentals. The owner is very knowledgeable and really hooks you up with solid advice when selecting new gear and tackle.

Friendly, knowledgeable guy was working there. Pretty decent amount of fishing related supplies, especially for a tiny place. I can guarantee that if you forgot to bring whatever it is,and you need it to fish Ship Creek, hell have it available.

Nice selection of bait tackle and rods. Dustin set us up with Ross and bait for ten buck an hour each and bait was 16. My kids had fun fishing for salmon. A nice afternoon in Anchorage at ship creek.

This place has good equipment. However don’t pay for a guide. He’s not a guide. He walks you across the bridge and down under the bridge to his “secret spot” that is next to the other 25 people. He also baits, and casts your line for you. You just stand there and hope something bites. The hooks they use are also way to big in my opinion. There was an individual that was sitting next to us that caught a massive fish using a hook that was half the size as the two hooks that were on our lines. Also wearing waders and not getting in water and just standing on the bank is just dumb. This place has good rentals and waders, change the hook, and don’t pay for a guide. He’s not a guide, he’s a babysitter. He does everything for you for $100.

Dustin is AWESOME!!! I brought my family to Anchorage just to see what we could see. We found The Bait Shack and Dustin took us out on the river a few days later. Everyone caught a fish. My youngest (8 years old) caught three fish including the biggest of the day. It was an amazing experience. Dustin filleted the fish and vacuum sealed them so we could take them back to LA. He was so nice to our family.

The best locally owned Veteran owned store of its kind. Love it. Great place for quick info, daily updates, help for the tourists, and a lifesaver carrying the last minute things that you left at home. And they do rentals.

If you only have a few days in Anchorage and do not want to spend money chartering a guide/ship, The Bait Shack is your best bet. All gear is included in the rental (including boots/wader) and is in tip-top shape. Dustin also gives hints where you should fish the creek. Highly recommends stopping by here.

So i was going write this long thing that happened but its not worth being mad,he just rude not helpful and pretty much just ignored me but he was friendly to the others that where in front of me and we were dressed kinda the same. So i know it wasnt that ,i was the only person with a tan though so ya im never going back
