Only had my truck for two months now and reverse has went out and look at this mess everywhere

First I tried to call several times and nobody ever answered, then I stopped by during business hours stated in the voicemail message but it was closed, very disappointing.

These guys are top notch and deserve your hard earned money...just talking on the phone with all the other transmission shops it seemed like I was inconveniencing them-like they didnt want my $$$$.Call Ak transmission and gear first!

I would give zero stars if possible. had our truck for several weeks to fix a transmission problem and not even a week after having it home it was having issues. we took it back as it was under warranty and now it’s been sitting at their shop, untouched for going on two months. we’ve called and left messages and only gotten one call back where the man told us “uhhh yeah i’ve got other warranties in front of your that need to be worked on but i’ll get to it his week.” this was two weeks ago and after it had already been there well over a month. they still have our truck, still haven’t heard a word from them. STAY AWAY FROM ALASKA TRANSMISSION AND GEAR!!

Great, fast, friendly, and knowledgeable. They ran a free diagnostic test and gave me a good idea as to what the problem was. They then referred me to another specialty shop (auto electric) and didnt do any unnecessary work. Unlike other shops I talked to in town they took the time to clearly address the issue and explain what was likely happening clearly and simply. I will recommend them to others.

Do not use them!They told me a month and my car was given back to me 3 months later. They had torn both CV boots while pulling the axles and didn’t tell me. I didn’t notice until I got home and saw grease all over my doors and wheel wells. They forgot to put the steering column grommet back in the firewall and I could hear the road noise from under my dash. I fixed this my self. They disconnected the power supply to my stereo system then kept the gold power distribution block and replaced it with a long bold and about 10 washers. I had to ask for it back. They even connected the amp power cable to the negative on the battery. The lead builder told me my car was a weekend car and that’s why it took so long. I eventually had to take it back to another transmission center because they messed up an electronic valve in my transmission.

Marc was a great help over the phone and in person. very generous of him to help me in a short notice. great service! will recommend this shop over any shop in town. 5 stars hands down.

I whole-heartedly recommend Alaska Transmission & Gear! I took my car to them to have the transmission checked out as my car was having difficulty shifting. They test drove the car and called me about possible solutions. Marc was great at explaining his recommendations. He explained that I should try retraining the computer. Even though he could have recommended they do this, he saved me a lot of money by telling me how to do it myself. Thank you to Marc for the honest, informed, and accurate assessment of my car’s symptoms! The retraining of my car’s computer worked!I am so thankful this shop considers a variety of solutions and doesn’t jump to the most expensive one. What a breath of fresh air to know that the folks at Alaska Transmission & Gear really care about their customers!

I know they have been around for a long time and from what I heard, have a good reputation. I asked them to run an extra set of lines for addition cooling on my transmission, figured it would be easy, and the owner said, 1 day, couple hundred bucks. Cool. So 3 WEEKS and $1500 later i finally get my truck back after hounding them for days to get it done. Thats the last time I go there. Ill go somewhere that knows what theyre doing.

I am super impressed with Alaska Transmission and Gear. There is always a fear with auto mechanics that they will take advantage of the mechanical novice or the mechanical dunce, but everyone will be met with respect and honesty here. Alaska Transmission and Gear will give you an honest assessment of what ails your vehicle. They do not price gouge like other transmission shops, and they are not afraid to refer your business to other shops that may be more equipped in a certain specialization (like electrical problems) regarding transmission problems. They are exceptionally knowledgeable in other respects of vehicular mechanics besides transmissions, and while my husband and I came with transmission problems with our primary vehicle, the mechanics and owner were happy to discuss troubleshooting with an engine air-intake problem on our other vehicle. My husband and I are completely astounded by their helpfulness. Alaska Transmission and Gear is an establishment to be trusted.

Before they even would see my car they gave me some tricks to see what was really going on with the car. They serviced the engine and were very affordable. They were professional and honest about their work. Would definitely go back. Thanks again.

These guys rebuilt my trans in my 2000 Silverado. I cant say enough about these guys, they go the extra mile then go another for you. The quickest,easiest and best experience Ive had at any shop in town. Dont go anywhere else for your transmission work.

Mark was absolutely fantastic to work with, honest and straightforward in the way that he help me. I wont mention the other shops that told me I needed a brand new $2,000 transfer case and Mark told me exactly what was wrong with it from the get-go and was able to work with what I had.

A year later after this we are currently looking for service for a full transmission rebuild now. The same issues are happening. So wish we didnt bring our vehicle in for their service. Just finished with a quote now for a rebuild starting at $3,500 with an ending amount as high and $12,000. Not a happy customerOriginal Post:They changed my transmission fluid and filter this past August, afterwards my transmission started to act up, slipping gears and getting stuck in a high rev. I brought my vehicle back, they took it for a test drive, none of the problems occcured in a 10 minute drive. They said everything is fine. One day later I had to have my vehicle towed, I sent it the dealership instead. During their inspection they found that AK Transmmion and Gear over filled the transmission fluid and installed the incorrect filter. I had the dealership print out the report so I could show it to them along with the filter they pulled. They didnt want to admit fault so now a simple $186 fluid and filter change turned into a $726 mishap that came out of my pocket. So glad that no damage occurred inside my transmission. It couldve been in the thousands out of pocket. Their mishap did void the powertrain warranty on my vehicle. So in the future I will gladly pay the extra $100 for service at a dealership, at least I will have peace of mind. If you do chose to go here, I hope everything works out better for you. If not Im sorry and I hope you find peace.

Worst experience from shop, ruined my vehicle

When they say it will be done within a week they really mean a month. I was told my truck would be done the week I brought it to them and now 3 weeks later Im getting it towed to another shop who will do it. Every time I called to check on it they told me they were gonna start on it that day. If you need your vehicle repaired quickly do not bring it here.

Ive never had someone make me feel so good about telling me my transmission is toast. This place lives up to all the reviews. Diagnosed the problem and would not take any money for his time. Talked to me as thought I was a real human being and not a moron, about what was wrong and what my options where. Said doing the repair was borderline worth it. Im not sure if I am going to go through with the repair or not. On this vehicle or the next Mark has earned a customer for life.

Our truck broke down while we were on a road trip in Alaska. It put a real damper on all of our back country ski plans. We stumbled across Alaska Transmission & Gear while seeking out a different dealer. Mr. Thompson was super friendly, honest and didnt beat round the bush. He called all over the city to try and find us the cheapest deal on the part that was needed.
