Such a great bike shop! This is the first shop that I trust to service both my old townie commuter bike and full suspension carbon mountain bike. They have a wealth of knowledge and will do the best they can to find the parts I need. The crew is all friendly and truly have the best interest of the community in mind. An ABQ staple for a reason! (I called this place a CO-OP once and was corrected to coop! The more you know!)

Amanda and the rest of her staff are the best. I had a custom All City gravel bike built and they helped me work through all the details of finding components (in a pandemic bike part supply shortage) and get them all working together. I brought the frame to them and they were super cool about building it. No pressure sales tactics and all coolness. Really happy with the outcome and to support a local shop with so much heart and soul.

Later brought my roommates bike here when that needed a brake job. The person I spoke with on the phone walked me through the issue to get the info he needed, I dropped the bike off the next day and then picked it up that afternoon, and rides great!

Just had one of the most bizarre and horrible interactions of my life at this bike shop. I got a dropper post installed and it didnt function properly so I brought it back in. I was then accused of changing out parts as to part of the reason why it wasnt working, which I didnt do. I was also lectured on not coming back for the bike the day before, even though I had called the bike shop and got the OK to pick up the bike the next day. I was then charged for the repair and banned from the shop! If the Bike Coop treats others the way the treated me they really do not deserve to serve this community. Go elsewhere!

I dropped my bike off with Ryan for a simple chain replacement and air pressure, and he said it would take 1 to 2 days. Almost a week later, the bike hadnt even been worked on and the employee (who was apparently the only employee who could work on the bike?) was not even working. I took my bike out of there and have brought it to another shop.

Been here twice for tune up. What they do they do very well. What they haven’t done each time is actually finish and complete what you asked to be done. Just this week; I knew my chain needed replacing and asked for it to be done. Made an appointment on Monday for Thursday tune up and specifically requested the chain be replaced. They didn’t have a chain in stock to do it I’m told after being called it was done but they don’t have a chain. Course I think when I made the appointment and requested it maybe one should have been ordered sometime over the next couple days before the Thursday appointment.Last year same thing. Needed a new rear wheel. Showed up twice, each time told guy who builds wheels wasn’t there. No one could be bothered to take an order. Spent $400 for new wheel elsewhere.Customer Service is non-existent here. When I got the call, tune up done, no chain I said I’d pick one up at REI and be there in 30 minutes - told it would be installed when I got there. When I got there was told that mechanic had left for the day and it could be installed later if I left my bike till later. You either keep your commitments or you don’t.

Went in to have Disk brakes added to my bike. The bike was set up to add disk brake!Josh quoted me 3 prices, each time a higher price. His final price was $600.00!! He told me ,Better to buy a new bike. So I selected a bike. He told me he would get it ready and to come back in a few hours. He calls me later and said the bike frame was cracked! And mentioned a few other things about this bike I had selected! Why didnt he just tell me he didnt want to sell me the bike!! I know he lied about the bike because I looked at it and checked it out and looked fine. I think another customer that was a little WHITER then me came into the store and wanted it. Josh told me he would find another bike similar to the one I had selected and would call me back within the hour. He never called me back. Im guessing he didnt care for Combat Veterans with a service dog!Went to Stevies Happy bikes and he took care me with a nice bike and a smile on his face!

My initial review was a three I believe. Coop was right next to my house and I always wanted to like it for convenience. The first time I went in was for new a tube(s) and it was installed fine, though took a few days. The next couple of times they forgot to call me for basic things like installing new rims. When youre a bike commuter its not okay. A couple years ago, I went to have my brakes tightened: Took several days and it was not done when I picked it up. When I returned to have it tightened, the tech was a little rude, telling me essentially that it wasnt their fault and it was hard. So, I waited and watched him and made sure it was actually tightened before I left. The last time I went was to true my rim that had bent. After standing around the store for a while waiting for help (not the first time), I was told it would take a couple of days because they were busy. No problem, but then it took a week, and again no one called. Not long after the true the rim bent again and caused a crash. I wont accuse anyone of not tightening it properly or not telling me to replace it if it should have been, but at the very least, I will not return to wait another week to have a single rim trued. I think that generally, the people there are nice, but the quality of service hasnt been good.

Reasonably priced used bikes for sale, which is becoming a rarity out here these days! Picked up a really beautiful, light 1978 hybrid bike up from here which is replacing my 50lb mtb for my commute. I love healthy living and exercise and nutrition will change your life for the better, whats better than a bike shop. The Bike Co-Op repairs, offers bicycle tune-ups and sells bicycles from affordable to custom built carbon framed.Save the environment, save money on maintenance and gas for vehicles and watch your body evolve. Let your body become the Ferrari.Across from UNM Campus, limited free parking, but plenty of street metered parking and paid lots, handicap accessible, near bus stops and nearby bicycle racks to lock up your bike.A new feature for this neighborhood are the Pace Bicycles to rent and use temporarily allowing you to take a load off achy feet & toes, allowing you to get where you need to go quickly.

Above and beyond my expectations. I am a *super* beginner, and just bought a used bike off craigslist. I needed some new pedals, and figured this was a good place to start. After being immediately greeted and shown to the available products, the employee proceeded to install the pedals, adjust my gears, lube the chain, and pump up my tires for FREE. I felt a little weird being in this new environment, but he was very friendly, showed me what he was working on, and spoke to me like a regular. Very nice place. If you are concerned about price, then sure, this place is going to have higher-end products that are going to cost a little more. But I think community, quality, and reliability make this place a gem.

Used this place for years and bought a road bike from them. Solid all around shop with a great location. Theyll be able to take care of you consistently and they do good repair work.Directly off the citys main Bicycle Boulevard bike path, near the university with multiple bus connections nearby. You can literally take your bike out of the shop and get back to riding.Buying local is always going to be a little more money, but its certainly a good investment. Product price isnt absolute lowest overall but it never will be...its reasonable, comparable and most importantly not a donation.Patronizing this shops type of service (for the neighborhood and otherwise) is a no-brainer.I would recommend this shop for someone starting out, repairs, advice and a good bike selection.

I took my Trek road bike to them a couple years ago at the end of the day for a fitting. In a fitting they custom fit the bike to you. This can mean a different seat or position of the seat, a longer or shorter stem, and a whole number of small but important tweaks. Overall the fitting really improved how well the bike fits me and makes longer rides just that much easier. I highly recommend Greg and his staff for this kind of work.

I reserved a hard travel case for rental at this bike shop over a week prior to needing it. I showed up to pick the case up and was told, oh, dude we dont have it. An employee took it home. Ah man you can rent this soft case to fly with!! To which I said no I have an expensive bike and need the protection of the hard case. This is why I specified the hard case. Neither of the guys assisting us offered a reasonable alternative or tried to make suggestions of other shops in the area that may be able to help. They simply said go buy one. Which I did not want to do due to expense, the main reason I was renting! Such poor service. Absolutely a joke.

Shopped around near downtown ABQ for best price on thorn-resistant tube, slime and labor, and out of 3 shops the Bike Coop was a bit less. Went to the shop and a nice fellow asked if I needed a tube. I told him I wasnt sure, since the tube I had seemed good except for some air that bubbled out of the valve (and kept bubbling) last time I put air in it. He asked if I put air in with the valve at the top of the tire--heck no, I always did it at the bottom. He said with goop inside the tube its best to pump air with the valve up top...did not know that. He switched out the clogged stem, put the tube and tire back together and out I walked happily having saved $25, which is very helpful. He also reminded me that they have air pumps if Im in the neighborhood and need to top off the tires. I couldnt be happier!

Had never been in the place before and as soon as I walk in for help with my bike I was treated rudely. Granted my bike was in the entrance and a girl had just walked in with her bike so I was in the way. However, that was no excuse for the man working to be rude and tell me I was in the way then proceed to grab my bike from me and take it upon himself to move it. Then the gentlemen didnt listen to me when I was going to explain what service I needed. Instead he took it upon himself to tell me what was wrong with my bike even though there wasnt just a brake adjuster issue. Even his coworker working the register was in awe at how the man was speaking to me, This rudeness was enough for me to walk out and not go any further with their help. Its a shame that one guy ruined my first experience here and that I couldnt give them business. Im sure not all of the worker there are like this but this was extremely bad customer service and has officially stained my view on the shop.

Why do so many bike shops have rude employees? You can 100% believe the reviews here about that problem at this bike store. I couldnt even get anyone to acknowledge that a live person was actually in their store wanting to buy something! So I left and will never go back again as long as I live. Two wheel Drive has a totally different operation, and thats gonna be my store. As a Southerner, manners are very important to me, and to the owner of this place, I suggest that they follow the advice I saw on many signs in Memphis....Be Nice, Or Leave. That sums it up. Who needs this sort of thing in Albuquerque? Take that east coast rudeness somewhere else please.

My experience at the Bike Coop was perfect. Im just getting into biking and I went in to find a bike to get me around my neighborhood and the UNM campus. One of the employees there, Stuart, spent a lot of time explaining to me the various differences between the bikes that would meet my needs. I was also very concerned about getting flats from all the goat heads in the area and Stuart spent 15 minutes explaining to me all the different ways that I can combat that problem.I think the Bike Coop is the perfect bike shop for the UNM area. It has a nice mix of bikes for sale, and they carry a lot of bikes that are very reasonable in price, but not carried by anyone else in town. The bike I eventually decided on is a hybrid style bike by RSD, a small Canadian company, and the Bike Coop is the only bike shop in New Mexico that carries that brand.I also think that the fact that the shop is busy is a very good sign. Im always a little cautious around businesses that seem to be empty all the time. Every time I was in the shop there were lots of customers coming and going, and a lot of them knew the staff by name. Return customers and a busy shop are a sign of a quality business and employees, IMHO.

I came here from California to go to UNM and at the end of my Freshman year decided I didnt want my bike here anymore but had no way of getting it home since my car doesnt have enough space for it. I went here by recommendation of lots of people around campus to buy a trunk bike rack to find out they would take apart and ship my bike for me and all I would have to do is take it to get put back together when I got it at home. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is the box was flimsy and when it arrived at my house was very damaged, there was only minimal damage to my bike which wasnt a big deal because its a mountain bike and I ride it hard to begin with. But they are very helpful and give you every option under the sky for you to ponder. They also hooked me up with a rack and bag for school when it was here.I will be returning to them soon since I have brought my bike back (got a hitch bike rack for my car and brought it back out this past summer) and have noticed there is a problem with my chain that needs to be fixed. I would definitely recommend them to my friends and other random people I may meet.
