I would give this ten stars if it was possible.I am just going to put this in simple language. You do not want to go with anyone else. This would be a mistake to say the least!From the first moment I met up with Gary to evaluate my swing I knew that I was getting exactly what I was looking for...unrivaled expertise with blunt force honesty. Someone who is extremely passionate about the sport and took the time to understand exactly what I needed to become a good golfer.I got an education that allowed me to make a considered decision.He got me into what I would consider my first ever set of real golf clubs that just make sense. I can truly say thanks to him I am on a path of becoming the golfer I have always wanted and knew I could be. Not only this but he communicated with me and made all this happen around my extremely busy summer schedule!Since working with Gary I can tell you I have dropped over 12 strokes off my game and this is just the beginning!I will never buy another club from anyone else. That would be insane.Just do yourself a favor and go with Golf HQ. I promise you will love the result!

Was in need of a new driver so I called to check what they had available. Spoke to Gary who set up a time to have me come out and be fitted for the right club. Gary was amazing to work with. He was able to tell a lot about my game and abilities just from watching me hit some balls. Needless to say I got the exact driver I needed to elevate my game. Two 15 minute sessions with Gary not only got me the right driver, but I also got some pointers that are now allowing me to hit the ball farther and straighter. I will definitely be following up to upgrade my irons later this summer. I had never considered being fit for a club before, now I wont buy another club without being fitted. I would highly recommend Gary at Gold Headquarters when its time to upgrade your clubs and help improve your game.

My husband broke his shaft on his driver. We called late afternoon and Gary set up a time to fit him with a correct shaft for his swing the next morning. Gary spent time with him and let him hit several shots before we made our purchase. Very happy with our experience and purchase!

I got a gift card to Golf HQ for my birthday to get my clubs re-gripped. The guys that helped us were very nice and helpful, took my name and phone number, and said theyd call when my clubs were done in a day or two. I didn’t get a call, but waited a week before calling them to find out that my clubs were ready.I stopped by to pick them up, and when I got home checked to make sure all the clubs were there. Much to my surprise, all of my club shafts were covered in a dark gooey dirt (see the first picture above - the two clubs on the left are the ones I cleaned for comparison), and majority of the grips had tape sticking out (see the second picture above).My husband called in to the shop, and the owner was very understanding and wanted to make things right by re-gripping the set free of charge and giving me a half dozen balls. We greatly appreciated his owning up to the mistakes made and willingness to ensure we got what we paid for. Mistakes happen, and Golf HQ went above and beyond to ensure we were taken care of.

Went in first thing Saturday morning to purchase a new set of irons and a couple fairway woods. Needed some extras as well. Nick did a great job helping me pair up with some Taylor Made irons and a fairway wood. Very knowledgeable and personable. Highly recommend stopping in regardless of what you need...they pretty much have it all. Ask for Nick.

Great experience! Ron and Craig were both really helpful. I was looking for a hybrid and my son was looking at putters. Craig was able to answer nearly all of my questions off the top of his head, and the couple he couldn’t, he was able to get the answer very quickly. He didn’t guide me to expensive clubs but to what matched my swing. Plus, I blew out my flip flop (sandal) while in the store and Craig fixes it with a quick epoxy job!! LOL - He definitely went above and beyond!!!

I stopped by golf hq to compare a driver price for my son. The guy that helped me was extremely helpful and I could tell he was knowledgeable. He sold me a driver with some shaft that my son was very excited to get and told me to send him in to get the driver set up on a monitor. The same guy helped my son when we went back. He spent about 25 minutes comparing numbers on the computer and even helped him with his grip. I forgot his name but everyone else that came in the store seemed to know him. Very good experience. A+

Fantastic! Great selection, and helpful staff. As soon as I walked into the place, I had an associate approach me. This was so refreshing compared to Golf Galaxy, place I have wasted so much time just waiting for help. I came into Golf HQ, got what I wanted without wasting time, had my item price matched, and was on my way. They have earned a customer.

Came in for the first time looking for a driver and putter, left very happy I did. Gary was helpful in setting up options and working with Matt on the simulator was a great help in deciding between clubs, he was great with putters as well.Ultimately as someone who appreciates customer service, and who doesnt am I right, Golf HQ was first class. I look forward to going back when I upgrade my irons.

The internet needs to know about Craig Jellings. I’m a 2 handy cap. I don’t live in Iowa, I make trips to see this guy. My last appointment was over the top. We went through my whole bag making sure every swing weight, loft, and lie were correct. We put on slightly heavier grips, to move weight, and literally weighed different grips until he found the heaviest grip. He put lead tape on a few irons to make everything consistent, tour stuff.I bought a driver, which he customized, and I would have paid that $400 just for the lesson/tips/knowledge I was given during the fitting. His knowledge of clubs, shafts, fitting, golf in general, is worth every penny. Craig is the real deal golf pro. I wouldn’t even think of letting anyone else touch my clubs. He’s only $50 for a fitting and he should charge double that. If you aren’t working with Craig your golf game isnt as good as it could be. Great guy, I suggest making an appointment with him!

Ive never heard of this place until I went to Golf Galaxy. Golf Galaxy had a very limited selection of everything and I wasnt able to find what I wanted they were also a lot more expensive and the staff didnt even offer to help me. I saw a lot of people mentioning they went to Golf HQ so I decided to give it a try. The staff at Golf HQ was extremely friendly and helpful. The prices were a lot better and the selection was significantly better than Golf Galaxy. The new shoes I bought werent even out at Golf Galaxy yet, but they had them here. I would strongly recommend going here to get anything versus Golf Galaxy.

I got fitted for new TaylorMade Irons at Golf HQ by Mike. He did a great job and was very thorough doing the fitting. It took about 20 minutes and I had my clubs within a week or so.Since being fitted Ive been hitting my clubs well. I rarely hit my 4 iron until I was fitted and what a difference it made.I would recommend this Golf HQ for all your golf needs.

Watched my friend get fitted for clubs, these guys really know what theyre doing! No upselling or pressure - good and honest advice from guys that are VERY good at golf. Had my Driver regripped while I was in - quick and cheap! Also, they carry size XXXL gloves for anyone else with freak sized hands!

Best experiance I have had! I left Golf Galaxy trying to get fit for Pings disappointed and came to Golf Headquarters. I met Gary and Craig. Those two are the most helpful people I have met. They made me feel comforable and were extremely informative. Craig spend over an hour fitting me on the Ping computer system. He explained everything he was doing so I would understand it. This is the only place to go to get fit for golf clubs, period! Highly recommended!

Bought new irons at Golf Galaxy and when it came to sizing, I was told not to lengthen the shafts because it would mean the clubs would be harder to hit. After swinging a few times to find my lie, I was told I was inconsistent and to come back after I worked on my swing. Feeling I didnt get the service I needed, I contacted Golf Headquarters (after was told about how good the Waterloo store was and they had a location in DM) and got setup for fitting. Got 1 on 1 help and spent some good time in the simulator with Craig swinging clubs and getting measured. He added .5 in length and went 2° up on the lie after seeing I was CONSISTENTLY hitting 2° flat on each swing. Played once with these irons before sizing and was still inconsistent and pulling left much like I did with my old irons (identical in length/lie). I played the following weekend after having my irons sized by Craig and shot very constant and straight hitting greens/fairways and my score reflected it. I have never been that consistent with irons. Couldnt be happier with the service and help I received with the club fitting. Wish I had my irons sized 10 years ago. Needed shoes and other items and got great help and service there as well. Very nice store and a great selection on anything you need/want. More importantly, the service was top notch. Will drive from Ames and make this my golf shop.

I went to Golf headquarters my first time today. I was looking to have my clubs fitted & have new grips put on my clubs. I spent an hour or so in the simulator with Craig who gave me some very helpful tips on how I can improve my Golf swing. I was then told that I should practice some of the things we worked on with my swing & play a few rounds before we go ahead & get my clubs fitted. Craig spent an hour of his time with me & did not charge me a thing for our session. I probably learned more important aspects about the golf swing than I had since a picked up the clubs again 4 years ago. Thanx Craig! Sorry Golf Galaxy I have found a new Home.

I wont be going back...I just moved to the area and am an avid golfer. I try to support local shops when I can and avoid the chain stores. I moved here in July and since then have purchased shoes, a hybrid club, balls and some accessories at GH. Im probably in the top 1% as far as spending on golf goes so Im in stores and online a lot. I wont be going back to Golf Headquarters though.I can find a deal in a lot of places but I look to the local stores and pro shops for some added value and golf headquarters didnt deliver on this for me.I bought a hybrid in early August, probably had it a month or so. Playing one day last week the head came off. It didnt break or anything, the epoxy just wasnt set right or something. No big deal I thought, just bring it back in and theyll fix it right up. They were really helpful and fixed it while I waited and I picked up a few other things while I was there.When I checked out the total was higher than I thought it should be and asked if they charged me to put the head back on. They said they had to charge me for the work they did, otherwise it was a hassle for them to go back to the manufacturer. So now its my hassle if I want to pursue it. I asked if he wanted to reconsider, after all I bought the club there just a few weeks ago and it wasnt an issue of abuse and it was a defect from manufacturer....all of that was agreed to but they werent willing to fix it without charging me.I was really surprised how this was handled. its not a lot of money, something like $8 but I could have bought the club cheaper online and I didnt just for reasons like this. Its likely much easier for them to deal with manufacturer than me, they have an ongoing relationship with them and Im sure Im not the first guy to have had this happen. In fact had a similar issue with mizuno irons where i custom ordered clubs and the grip on the 8 iron wasnt on correctly. That shop took it off and put a new one, didnt charge me for it.So, I wont be going back and am telling all my friends...who all play golf to look at other shops or look online since you will get about the same level of service.

Kudos to the crew at Golf Headquarters in Des Moines. I was promptly greeted and assisted by a very knowledgeble staff. Unlike some other golf equipment stores, the staff at Golf Headquarters are very professional and their expertise about golf equipment is superb. If you are in the market for new clubs or golfing equipment, I highly recommend them. If you do your research on golf equipment on line before going out to shop, make sure you include them before you buy, you will quickly realize you are dealing with people who know what they are taliking about, not someone just trying to sell you their product.

I am a new customer to Golf Headquarters, have been in and out of golf shops since I was 9 years old, and this was by FAR my best experience! I am a 4 handicap and have been in the market for new irons for about 2 months in search of a performance iron to take my game to that next level. I first went to Golf Galaxy out in West Des Moines to begin my search; went their twice and both times I didnt have anyone come up to me for assistance, so I came to Golf Headquarters. As soon as I walk into the door Mike Winkel was their to assist me. Long story short, Mike and I have put about an hours worth of time getting me into the right irons, shaft, and fit. I am a very knowledgable player and I couldnt have been more happy with the higher education that I received! This shop has not only friendly employees but come to find out through talking with them they are all top level players who know the game inside and out. HIGHLY RECOMMED taking your business to this shop!
