I cannot say enough fabulous things! We had a virtual cake pop making class with my company as a team-building event. The event was so fun and everyone raved about how delicious the cake pops turned out! Yael was also hilarious to boot! The packages with the supplies were great - all the supplies (and more!) were included. Yael made everything so easy to have an great event. She took care of collecting addresses and even was able to get a package out overnight for a last minute sign-up. I would highly recommend her cake pop classes! And I can’t wait to try the bakery next time I’m in DC! Thanks again Yael for all your help and a great event!

Dude. Was it the timing of the day that I came here? I got one of the salmon bagel sandwiches. The salmon was so delicious, it was perfectly proportioned toppings. BUT the bagel was hard as brick. I was so hesitant to post this because the service was amazing and filling was delicious. Maybe it was my timing of day, I went there at 230pm with hungry toddlers after the zoo. I’m going to have to try it again to make sure I got a bad batch or something.

They look and taste like the real New York bagels I grew up with and theyre hand rolled, boiled and then baked just like theyre supposed to be. Great to find out they have a stand at the Old Town farmers market on Saturday mornings. Hopefully some day theyll decide to make bialys too.

My mom bought me the gluten free dairy free “cookie” (looked more like a flattish brownie) and I was in heaven. It was so delicious, especially right after a hearty steak dinner. I rarely get to enjoy sugary treats because of my gluten and dairy intolerances. This was even better then a standard cookie. Thank you for such a treat!

Stopped in Baked By Yael after a trip to the zoo with my husband and daughter. We picked up a refreshing strawberry lemonade and a half dozen cake pops. All of the cake pops were absolutely delicious, but the lemon cake pop was particularly PERFECT after a hot morning at the zoo. It’s extra awesome that they are a nut-free establishment because my husband has a severe nut allergy and can rarely have baked goods when we’re out.

I first started buying from Baked By Yael from the Alexandria Farmer Market. The salt and everything bagels are delicious, and their formula for freezing and reheating makes their longevity extremely useful. During COVID, I started using home delivery. This past week, there was a mix up in my order, and the team fixed it right away and did a special delivery for me. That level of customer service, which range from the Farmer’s Market to the main location, is appreciated and a sign of an excellent business. I will continue to buy from them.

This bakery was very cute, if I must say. There was a little girls birthday party going on in the back. It looked like fun! There were a bunch of kids learning to make cake pops. If I was one of those kids Id think I just had the best birthday ever. Seriously though this place was nice and had good pastries and coffee. It was raining outside so I was confined to sit inside. There wasnt too many seating options inside as it was crowded. Good place to catch up with friends and to grab something sweet.

This place is a hot mess. There were 9 employees working, but no one doing anything. It took a while for our bagels, and even then they weren’t toasted and weren’t prepared the way we ordered. The staff served a huge group of people before us, despite us having ordered before them. What is even going on here?Just wanted to note the comment from the owner below:Glad to hear you’re working on fixing the issues with your service. However you were there, we made eye contact, you saw I was upset about the situation and walked out, as did your employees. And no one did anything. Why is it on me to fix the situation when your staff was clear the situation and service was messed up? I even came back in to notify you that the order was incorrect. Your young staff member apologized profusely but at that point I’d already waited 15 minutes for a bagel and took the bagel and left.

Breakfast time? Stop in for a legit bagel with sun-dried tomato cream cheese (or lox if thats how you roll). Bagels have excellent texture and substance. The cake pops are also a perfect hit of sugar to get a sweet fix. The Gelato here is also good, and very rich - a small bowl goes a long way.The location is also zoo-adjacent if you are interested in taking in some fuzz.

I ordered a carriage with 24 cake pops for a baby shower, to be picked up Friday evening before the shower. It seemed to be one hurdle after another: I had to call several times in order to reach someone who could answer questions and take the order; we were supposed to pick it up Friday evening (for Saturday brunch), but couldnt get to the shop due to a bomb scare on Connecticut Avenue. Then when my husband picked it up and brought it home Saturday morning -- an hour before the shower started -- I realized the cake pops were displayed in a simple box, rather than the carriage I had paid for -- yikes! All that said, the staff could not have been nicer all along the way, and when I called to complain, Yael immediately offered to send someone to deliver the carriage and also threw in a half dozen bagels to help ease my pain. The cake pops were delicious and big hit, and the bagels were not bad either. So I offer thanks and a 4-star recommendation!

It turned out to be a bad day to stop for a bagel before heading to the zoo! (Zoo parking was closed.) Be prepared as its street parking only and difficult to find. Small bakery, Small bagels and selection. Bagels are not sliced; cream cheese in cup and plastic knife provided when opting for to-go. From reviews seems like cake pops are in more demand. Cant say Ill be back. The bagel was just OK.Update to respond to the owners comment: Your response has convinced me to change the rating of this review. Its obvious that customer service is not a priority for you or your staff. Over a month later, you have no idea what my interaction with your staff was so I fail to see how you can comment in the manner that you did. Providing a plastic knife to cut my bagel was the answer I received when I asked your staff to prepare my bagel. Anyone can tell by my post that I am in no way stating that you have anything to do with the parking situation; I was merely stating my experience that day in trying to patronize your business. This is not the type of service that I can recommend to others.

Great cake pops - the bagels while good still arent dialed in. Shapes and size varies considerably and sometimes are a bit burned and still being sold. Considering a bagel with cream cheese will set you back nearly $4 Id expect a perfect and consistent bagel - this area is still under development but the price doesnt reflect that.

Really yummy gelato! I come here occasionally after the zoo for water and gelato (I think they do deals on the water... but I don’t remember for sure). It’s a little pricey; the gelato servings are really small. But it’s sooo delicious and since it’s across from the zoo, I expected to pay a little more. It’s really cute inside, and the staff are friendly. The pastries and food look good, too. If you’re hungry while at the zoo, just walk across the street to this place, instead of paying obnoxious rates inside the zoo.

Sub par excuses for bagels -- worst Ive had in DC thus far, combined with slow service and gag-worthy decor make this unworthy of your time or money. Got two avocado bagels and both had avocado so under ripe that it was inedible. Will not return.

The best cake pop (party) ever! After trying to book a kid’s birthday party at the National Zoo months in advance and only getting on a waitlist, then cancelling a Zoo picnic after realizing that you cannot reserve seating, we found Baked by Yael, which is right across the street from the Zoo. We decided to have a kid’s party there instead and are so glad we did!The folks working there are amazing. Alyssa, Charisse, Ethan, and the other lady (sorry I forgot her name) were sweet, fun, and patient with all of the kids, 6 under 8, 3 toddlers, all the parents, and grandpa. It was madness in the kitchen, but they were not fazed at all, and the kids had a ball. Alyssa was especially friendly and attentive and made the whole process pleasant and relaxed. We paid for the grownups to have coffee and rugelach, the second batch of which we could smell baking while the kids were rolling their cake pops. The rugelach were delicious and tastier than the pops, to be honest, but you can’t really build a party around that! The kitchen itself was incredibly tidy and clean in the kitchen, which was good since a toddler or two ended up eating some crumbs from the floor. It seemed expensive, so I hesitated a little about booking it, but we ended up taking home two enormous boxes of cake pops. I estimate there were about 10-15 pops per kid. They are in a big bowl in my kitchen, so the party continues. The pops themselves are very good!I would highly recommend this for a zoo-based party, since it’s so incredibly close, air conditioned, and you can still go to the zoo before or after the party.
