First impressions set the tone for your business, yes? As a first time customer, unfamiliar with the locale, I stopped my car where the sign at the back door (bikes inside building) read - laoding dock to unload 2 bikes from the trunck of my car. The employee (owner?) walked out: Leave. Dont park in front of my loading dock. A) I was not parked, the engine was on. B) My intention was to unload and then find parking. As a first timer, I had not seen employees only. Only loading dock. After some unreasonable dialogue, where I was not offered help or instructions on a simple inquiry about unloading, I took my bikes next door to RC bikes where I was greeted kindly and offered help taking my bikes out.

Shout out to Paul. My wife and I drove to Tucson from Colorado for a biking trip and of course forgot a few things. We went to Fair Wheel Bikes after being recommended by numerous locals. We dealt with Paul who was awesome. Helped us find what we needed and even threw in a set of Allen keys in the bag to help us on our way. Thank you very much for the excellent customer service.

Fair Wheel Bikes is a great bike shop tucked into a busy area across from the U of A campus. They are very a helpful and knowledgable group. During a time when it was difficult to get a bike, they found one that I liked, and worked hard securing all the extras I wanted for it. They even installed my fenders as I waited. I ordered one last extra today, a cute bling bag for my phone and keys. Parking can be challenging but its worth to go there.

I really appreciate that.In the front of the store, the staff is knowledgeable and they havent tried to up-sell me. Sure, they may not coming running over to you wanting to be your best friend the minute you walk in the store, but if you have questions all you need to do is ask and they do their best to help and may even provide a thoughtful suggestion or idea. They do seem to want to get you in the equipment that is best suited to your needs. For the record I am a commuter and mt biker - not a roadie

I normally dont write reviews but I had a weird experience. The tech told me that unless they fix everything on the bike (the crank is off by 3min on an ancient bicycle), they cannot service the bike. He said hed be liable otherwise. This didnt make sense when he said it but it made even less sense the more I thought about it. First of all, you write a receipt which shows what you fixed. If something unrelated to what you fixed broke, why would you be liable? Lets pretend they are liable, why wouldnt they have a waiver built into their receipt? Does every bike that comes in have to be made 100% or they wont service it? Lets flip this around, does this mean if I had agreed to extra work, Fair Wheel would be liable for everything on the bike? Seems that is what I was told. Could you imagine if this was how the law worked. Imagine a car with a flat tire. You take it to get fixed but the repair person says, Sorry, I cannot fix your flat tire unless I fix the rattle in your engine. If I dont, I am liable. Makes no sense, right? All of this leads to the conclusion that Fair Wheel, or at least this tech must BS people in order to sell more parts and services. I cannot abide by that. Take your business somewhere that doesnt BS people.EDIT: I ended up going to Ordinary Bike Shop. They fixed everything without any dishonest BS.

Jay or Jordan (Im terrible with names) was super cool and helped confirm a lot of my research along with helping me make sure the bike I was leaning towards was the right bike for me. No crazy up sale, no trying to push a bike on me that was in stock, etc. They even had the best price out of all the stores on my new Trek Remedy. Not sure why there are any bad ratings for this store, the best one I dealt with while here in Tucson, look forward to becoming a regular customer of Fair Wheel while here in Tucson. Horrible experience every time I go in. Today was the last straw when I called about a part for a wheel. I know for a fact it was the Maintenance Manager. I also went in there for a fork crash replacement not too long ago because my fork was cracked on my trek. One employee gave me an awesome price and when I went to pick it up the Maintenance Manager would not let the employee give me that price. Also made me pay shipping. He was totally rude about it. All I wanted was to buy a tube and put it in myself - something Ive done at 10 other bike shops at least 20 times in my life with nary an issue. Not here! Apparently since my bike isnt a $10 million gold-plated Lance Armstrong Roidroller I cant even look at their tools let alone use a wrench to take my wheel off. I had exceptional service there, following an emergency (Di2 battery holder wire socket damaged). There were many delicate parts on a Cannondale SuperSix EVO to be changed or fixed, and they were outstanding in:1 - Quickly finding the issue;2 - Having the parts in stock (Di2 and crankset + bearings);3 - Consulting each others (nice teamwork) and the documentation in order to respect the methods and tolerances while fixing delicate parts;4 - Using the proper tools (crank puller, torque wrench with verified values, press-fit kit for BB30, Loctite, etc.).This was exceptionally knowledgeable service and value. They even saved a part which is usually never salvageable. Quite impressed by all. Couldnt recommend more!

Seems like it’s hit or miss with customer service here. Employees werent even looking my way when I walked in and stood in front of the cash register for almost a minute, there was only one other customer there too. I simply came in needing a seat bolt, I left with what I needed but not without having been judged and made to feel ashamed for having ridden my bike with a loose seat. I guess this is part of their business tactics because then the lady tried to guilt trip me into buying a new seatpost, even though the one I have worked fine before I lost the bolt. Good thing they couldnt even get the seatpost out. I asked if I could pay for the bolt with my credit card since I didnt have the change to pay for the sales tax, lady gave me an “I guess” with a side-eye. What? Really? Definitely not coming back here, even though they forgot to put my seatpost bolt back. Honestly, keep it. I got better bike shops in mind.

One new guy at the front tried to charge me for services Ive never paid for before because of buying bikes there. When Ive mentioned about my agreement with Bruce he responded saying well Bruce is no longer here. Patrick (mecanic) and some others are a little on the rude side and not very customer oriented. Ive had several great wheels built here & they took good care of me and the bike I bought there 9 years ago. Ive brought all my bikes there for service at one time or another and have usually been impressed. Until a couple years ago. One guy was really mean to me after I bought a bike light, which had to be replaced twice because of defects. There was no excuse for his behavior, and he was just being a jerk, I guess cuz Im taller than him. THEN, I had a rear wheel for a vintage road bike built & it never stayed true. Never. THEN, I had some work done on a Vintage Gilmour & my old parts disappeared after. These parts were Campy Super Record. That was pretty much the final straw, although I know the owner would make it right if I spoke to him. He remembers my name & always says hello. Bottom line, since I started fixing up older bikes the Fairwheel staff has not been that cool to me!
