I took both the CSC 100 and CSC 200 recently and loved it. My instructor, Mark, was awesome. He really knew what he was talking about and made everything really easy to understand. I feel like I got a ton of knowledge out of these courses. It wasnt just studying books and proper terms, but also practical knowledge we applied all day. Sailing, docking, right of way, understanding wind and tide. I really feel ready and comfortable sailing now!

This is a review of the facilities, staff, and PMT course. Other courses are not part of this review. From the beginning we were impressed with the school. The registrar, Bruce, is very knowledgeable and always goes out of his way to make sure you have the right information. The registration process was simple for us, due to his efforts. The PMT course was 11 weeks long and covered all areas of seamanship from sailing theory, customs and courtesies, marlinspike, basic vessel maintenance, STCW training, and USCG exam preparation. They also provide a hands on portion which is a great advantage of taking this course in lieu of a 100% classroom option. We had the opportunity to sail on 3 different sailboats around 25-30’. We operated around 12 different power vessels as large as 52’. All in all we operated around 15 different vessels ranging from 20-52’.All the instructors were fantastic, but I have to give a shout out to Jim and Tom who helped run the program and still found time to provide excellent and engaging instruction. All have a wealth of knowledge and most have decades of experience in the Navy or USCG, so they kind of know what they’re talking about when it come to USCG regulations or operating vessels. They use the Chapman Book of Seamanship for their textbook. So, if you want to get ahead and be prepared you should read Chapman’s. They will issue you one when you attend so you don’t necessarily need to purchase one. The classroom facilities, textbooks, and training aids were all top notch as expected from a school bearing the name of Chapman’s.Overall the PMT course is designed to provide the classroom instruction, training, and testing for up to 100 GRT USCG Masters credential and supporting training to operate a vessel in the US and internationally. What credential you receive is based upon your experience. They not only train you for the USCG standards which most institutions do, but give you the training on STCW that can allow you to work on a vessel internationally.

Best Decision Ever! I chose Chapman’s School Of Seamanship to obtain my OUPV 6pack, Towing Endorsement, and my 100T Masters upgrade. The School was recommended by several friends, and I didn’t originally have intentions of getting my Tow Endorsement or Masters upgrade, but it was such a fun enriching experience I will continue my journey with Chapman’s. Mr. Tom Swank was my Instructor for all 3, and I can’t say enough positive things about him as a person and his instruction style. He used many visual examples throughout his teaching, and gave numerous real life stories applicable to the material. That helped me tremendously with retention of so much information, and quite frankly really fun and interesting to learn about. Furthermore, the Administration Office at Chapman’s has been extremely helpful with questions along the way and helping with the USCG application process. I’m so thankful I chose Chapman’s School of Seamanship for my journey, and I will definitely be back to further progress my career and passion for what I love!

Chapman is a great school. The instructors are all extremely knowledgeable about all areas of seamanship. They each present course materials in a way that you want to learn and apply the knowledge you have just gained. They have a variety of boats for you to learn on from single outboards, to twin engine inboard vessels. The front office staff are extremely friendly and helpful and glad to assist you with any questions you have. I am so glad that I chose Chapman School of Seamanship for my professional training.

What a great organization! We took the 5-day Basic Powerboating course (CPC 1000) and stayed in an on-campus apartment. The apartment was great. I highly recommend staying on campus for the convenience and value. Taking this course is the best way I can imagine to learn the basics of boating safety and boat handling, including a lot of time docking in various scenarios. Most of our time on the water was with Captain John, who was an excellent teacher - knowledgable, clear, patient and calm.

Its never too late to learn more and even though I felt comfortable on the water for the past 55 plus years I have not taken any formal classes to up my boating skills until now. Whether sail, power or human driven everyone can take something away with them by attending Chapmans courses. Summer in Florida brings out the best of skippers and the worst. Learning proper seamanship can and will increase your odds of survival simply by knowing what not to do when traveling our waters. Rules of the Road apply as much on land as they do on the waterways, lakes, rivers and oceans. After day 1 of class youll recognize that not too many boat owners have your best safety interests in mind. Youll be seeing potential problems much sooner than before due to your new awareness. The amount of vessels which ply our waters is constantly growing and if the goal is to leave the dock and return safely with your guests youll gain a better perspective of how to accomplish that seemingly easy task by attending classes at Chapman School of Seamanship. Youll surprise yourself by finally knowing how much you dont know. Safe Boating!

My class was an excellent experience in a subject I thought I knew pretty well . . . boy was I surprised. If learning is your goal this is a great opportunity. The subject matter was well thought out, the presentation was excellent and the amount of time spent on each part was sufficient. Practice Testing was a challenge but we were allowed to go over the areas we did not do well on which was very helpful. If you wish to earn real credentials this is a school you should consider.

I was part of Chapmans first online OUPV class in May of 2020. The class was originally supposed to be an 8 day in-person class, but Chapman was able to convert it to an 8 day online class due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Babs did a fantastic job with enrollment and sending out the training materials. Our instructor was Tom Swank, and he did an amazing job. Tom is an excellent instructor--he really knows the subject matter, and he makes the material very easy to understand. Jim Allen provided a lot of technical support for the class, and did a great job setting up our exams. Thanks to the Chapman school and their great staff, I passed all of the OUPV exams and the Towing Endorsement on the first try with no problems at all. I highly recommend the Chapman OUPV training program.

I attended PMT class 10-18. I was very impressed with the course and the instructors. I chose to attend Chapman vice another school because Chapman has a fleet of different types of vessels (single outboard/dual outboard/single inboard/dual inboard, etc) that the students are able to get practical hands-on training on, instead of just sitting in the classroom all of the time. That practical experience definitely made it easier to take and pass the USCG exams at the end of the course. I highly recommend that if you are interested in a professional maritime career that you attend Chapman.

If Rod wasnt there I doubt I would have made it! Thank you Rod!!! Thanks for your patience with me! I know I tested it!! Ceel was a complete inspiration. She was a great instructor and the perfect example of how if you worked hard, you could make it in this business. Brig was great too. He opened up another door for me in the marine electrical world and for the first time in my life I understand marine electrical systems. My only complaint is he got sick the last week of school and I didnt get a chance to see him before class was over. I cant forget Jason either! I am currently attending school here and in my 10th week. Before i came here i went to a previous college and scored a 4.0 gpa. I have to be honest, I didnt think it would be as tough as it is, but with a little bit of luck and allot of studying i think ill do the same. This school is no joke. They make sure that when you leave, that you are FULLY EDUCATED in seamanship.I for one have learned allot from Instructors that i feel REALLY wanted you to know and understand what and why they were teaching what they were teaching. Of course its like everything else, Theres no exception for experience,You learn what you need to know to get yourself started in the Captains world. But whats the next best thing? being taught by instructors that have tons tons and gross tons and net tons of experience.Im not a person that writes reviews or rarely even reads reviews, i am writing this because i am a person that doesnt like to waste money and most of all time. This school wasted neither.. Remember i am just one person, this is just one persons review, you would be silly to read this and say im in. Ask around, i dare you!!! Youll only hear the same as i have included. And this school is Fun Fun Fun I mean where else do you get to wake up and go out on the ocean and watch dolphins swim in the wake of your boats and sea turtles glide by... And Remember HE that is in you is greater than the world
