Well. Unfortunately, this place has deteriorated considerably. Apparently there is a new owner and the people they hired to work here are absolutely awful and clearly dont want to be there. The ladies are curt, rude, and have no sense of customer service.I walked in to order some ice cream. I was the only one in the store at the time of placing my order. As I was in the middle of placing my order with one staff member (like, I was literally speaking), a cashier with blonde hair and black roots (only way to describe her) yells down the isle Maam, are you ready?! I had not even finished speaking to the one staffer.I ordered 3 scoops, and the staffer mistakenly made the scoops too big so it was spilling over. Instead of simply scraping off the sides, they had to take it into the back and literally took 5 minutes to bring it back. It was the most odd thing ever. When they brought it back it was toppled over in a paper bag, placed on the counter and abandoned. No Thanks for waiting nothing. I handed it back telling them because....the bag was wet ......with ice cream since it had toppled over. Blonde hair/black roots simply took it out of the bag, tried to close it, put it BACK in the wet bag and gave it to me.I had to ASK for a fresh bag and clean the cup off myself.This is probably the worst customer service experience Ive had in a long time. Gone are the warm, kind staffers that used to work there. They have replaced them with teen, summer camp rejects who cant even make a simple cup of ice cream.What a careless way to lose customers. These ladies need to be trained or replaced. If not, I dont see this establishment lasting very long.

Best ice cream in all of the DMV, maybe even East Coast. As the name implies, flavors range from the traditional to delicious mango, orange, pineapple/orange, passion fruit, sour sap, rum raising grape nut etc. It is not possible to eat just one scoop!!!

Delicious Jamaican inspired flavors that Ive never seen anywhere else! (They also have regular stuff if thats what youre into)

Awesome flavors of the Caribbean and Latin America and American everyone should visit Tropics Ice Cream at least once I guarantee you will go back, the staff is pleasant and very helpful they also sell jerk chicken which is some of the best Ive tasted and thats from someone who was born in the Caribbean..enjoy.

I had seen this shop on my drives home from taking the beltway but never stopped in until today 7/17/20. It was a cute little shop with lots of fruity ice creams, I got coffee chocolate chip. Would go back to try some fruity flavors the next time. The food would be interesting to try at some point too.

Truly has tropical flavors that i dont think you can find anywhere else in the DMV. Havent tried the food yet. Ive tried 4-5 flavors. Some work a bit better than others but i think thats because its difficult getting subtle flavors to emerge in ice cream. definitely worth checking out.

Hard to choose flavors. Some are better than others; depending on ones taste buds. I enjoy the ones that you dont normally find in regular stores. Today I saw the sign stating that they are open year around. Awesomeness.

Good ice cream, many unusual flavors like soursop, a tropical fruit. Staff need to do a better job of nudging customers to maintain proper social distancing and wearing that mask. You probably wont get the virus there, but still, why lower standards? Improved distancing would be worth a star.

Great, but they are a bit slow

Decided I wanted ice cream while in downtown Silver Spring and found this Black owned business. What a treasure 😌 The unique variety of ice cream flavors are impressive. I tried the grapenut in a waffle cone and my daughter got Oreo in a cup. I dont like overly sweet ice cream and the grapenut was a perfect choice. They were sold out of many of what I guess are popular flavors like: chocolate and banana, ginger, strawberry, chocolate...... The staff was very nice, polite and welcoming. If Im in the area and desire ice cream, here is where Im coming!

Really glad to have tried this place! Very good ice cream with a myriad of interesting tropical as well as classic flavors. The portions are huge for the the price you pay, especially in this area. They also have sorbet, sherbert, milkshakes, banana splits, sundays and a few other specials. The staff is very friendly despite the place getting fairly busy at peak hours. You can also take out pints of pre-packaged and hand-packaged ice cream. Most definitely going back to try some more flavors.

Used two of my Groupon the icecream and beef patties were on point. The one lady did everything from preparing and services to handling the payment. Reggae music plays in the kitchen out to the restaurant. We shall return

I was charged full price for a castle, which includes a warm brownie, but after I paid I was told they did not have brownies. Disappointing, feel like I shouldnt have been charged full price if part of the order was missing. Only reason I got the castle was for the brownie.

This has been my go-to icecream spot for 10 years. They use simple, natural ingregients and have an amazing assortment of flavors. Their rum raisin is like nothing I have ever tasted. Also, I am lactose intolerant, and for some reason this ice cream does not give me any problems. The Jamaican patties they sell are on point as well!

How many ice cream flavors from around the World have you tried? Go find a new Global flavor at Tropical Ice Cream Cafe. Start small with a few containers of 5 or 6 flavors for a family taste experience. Make sure they are large enough to share because somebody will want to try their new favorite flavor twice or so. Great location with free parking at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and 16th Street in Silver Spring, Maryland. Tell the Charles sent me to get some flavors for family and friends.

This is one of the best ice cream shops in the area. It is a no frills location and decor but they have very good selection of ice cream with seasonal short-term flavors. Not only is the ice cream high quality but you can find unique flavor options not available at your typical ice cream shop. Odd parking and a difficult entry but worth it.

This review is for the Alpine Split. This is the original, just like from Giffords, made with Swiss chocolate sauce. It is to die for. Get it with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and toasted almonds. If want something smaller, get one of the sundaes made the same way, without the banana.

This is the best ice cream shop for the money in our area. They offer many rare tropical fruit flavors and all the traditional favorites. They have some toppings like nuts and hot fudge, caramel. They do not do mix ins. I believe they have some pre-packaged quarts for carry-out. Average price for one person is about $5 and single scoops are large portions.

This is fantastic ICE CREAM! It is worth every penny and they give large portions. I visit here at least once a week. The have wonderful tropical flavors like lychee, passion fruit, Caribbean cherry and many more. It reminds me of the great Devon House Ice Cream in Jamaica. The service is always great! Your tastebuds will not be disappointed!

Excellent tasting ice cream and cake with prices to raise your debt through the roof.Its not as great as York Castle Tropical Ice Cream in Rockville. The prices are higher as I recall and the ice cream and cakes dont taste as great, but its a good alternative if youre in the area.

Not as pleased with the icecream or sherbert selections as I had hoped. But the place is still an ideal spot. I think my taste buds are just changing because I have to watch sugar but I dont like desserts made with artificial sweeteners. Thats worse.
