Ive been going to this establishment for quite some time. And Miss Amy is by far the most amazing person to speak with over there and has an excellent eye for making chocolate desserts as well as artistic desserts. the chocolate shoe that she had was absolutely perfect for my wifes Valentines Day. everyone should at least stop in to get chocolate truffles or a chocolate dessert with them because it is worth the visit.

Velatis is the home of my favorite candy!! Vanilla sugar caramels (some people call them English caramels) with cashews. I have been going to Velatis for more than 40 years and enjoy the sugar and chewy caramels, vanilla or chocolate, with and without nuts. Their sweet selection includes chewy caramels with marshmallow.Velatis also has delicious chocolates and special confections for most holidays.

Featuring classic Italian caramels and chocolates that will melt in your mouth and will bring you to a state of happiness! They are known for their European sugary-style caramels and their American chewy-style caramels. My favorite are the traditional sugary-style but youll just have to stop in and experience their varied selection with chocolate and a selection of nuts and other styles.Ive been frequenting Velatis for the last five years and always enjoy stopping in. That pales in comparison to their long history of existence since 1860! I doubt that not many businesses have been operating in the DC area for that long! Its a Washington, DC institution and every Washingtonian should experience it!

My (native Washingtonian) family frequently bought, happily devoured, and gifted Velatis Caramels from the mid-1950s onward (but thats as far back as my own memories stretch!), and probably well before that, as my Grandma Geiger & my Aunt Cora Geiger (RIP), born before the turn of the century, were huge fans, and introduced little ME to it!Velatis Caramels were our familys very favorite candy, growing up -- and my father also shipped many boxes from their downtown store to all of his family members in Minneapolis, MN, as holiday gifts, as well.I am delighted to find that Velatis is still in business, as I have been unable to locate them in recent years, and thought they might have closed their doors for good.I will definitely be placing an order (or several!) VERY SOON... This is a top quality candy store that treats you as it would have at its founding 150+ years ago. The chocolate delights are made fresh, in the store, and packed fresh to your order. Today I bought my wifes favorite and they even added a decorative bow to the shrink wrap sealed box of chocolates.

Delicious caramels! Just bought a small pack to try, and my husband and I have eaten almost all of them. Soo yummy! The chocolate they offer also looked good. Try this place, and support a nice small business.

Great authentic candy store located in heart of Silver Spring. I really enjoyed the nice assortment of the candy as well as the different options. Very friendly staff and service as well. Price was reasonable considering the type of merchandise offer. I would definitely go back.

Delicious sugary dessert

Bought some sugary and chewy chocolates to take home and ended up eating the whole box. It was a pleasure picking out these sweet treats and hearing about the history of Velatis.

Got a white chocolate caramel truffle that was very good. Service was friendly. They also offer espresso which I’ll have to go back for.

My husband began purchasing candy at this store for me a year ago. My husband would visit Union Station to purchase me Godiva Chocolates and Neuhaus Chocolates.After, I tried the caramel and chocolate treats her, I was immediately addicted. Excellent candy and pricing.

Way Overpriced For What You Get. $31 + a pound for Carmel candy is insane even if its famous and local. Its even more expensive than Godiva and not half as good.

Im 75 and I remember as a little girl my grandmother taking me up town to velatis. This store is and has always been # 1 in its products..never change the recipe
