Something Special is a resale shop located in the Portofino Shopping Center, in Shenandoah Texas. This is a nonprofit resale shop, benefiting the women shelter of Montgomery county. They have a great selection of mostly used items from furniture for knickknacks and everything in between. Prices are reasonable and they have a fairly rapid turnover of inventory because their prices are good. They take donations around the back and they are very quick, And polite.
Very easy drop-offs. Kind a helpful staff. Wonderful cause. This is my go-to place for donations! They help to furnish temporary living spaces for those in need and their store helps to finance what isnt used in the living spaces. The large furniture pick-up was flawless! Im grateful to know about this organization!
They have really interesting items.A Beautiful wall picture.... see photo, $299 paid $40.Us my senior discount.
So elegant..a treasure of items for the classis chic lady!! A must to return to buy those one of a kind, thoughtful gifts!!
My daughter and I ended up here after waiting for a tire to be replaced at Discount Tire. We bought so many great books for only $9! Will definitely come back.
Overpriced. One woman works there for years saw 2 books I had at checkout and said angrily it should be priced more. She said someone put the wrong tag on them and dictated if I wanted to purchase now it would be the new higher price. I said that was wrong and asked to speak to a manager. She said in a snobby fashion she WAS THE MANAGER. I have a love/hate relationship with this store based on their high prices and this one horrible woman who works there. Otherwise love their other employees and nice items. But they are in it for the money. Dont expect to pay same price as Goodwill. They are proud of their donations and though a charity store do charge an arm and a leg. And no doubt snobby mean self proclaimed manager walks away with the best display only furniture at exclusive for friends and family pricing. The rest of us pay more. And sometimes at checkout find ourselves being demanded to pay more over listed price. And the beautiful display furniture that was not for sale is GONE.
The business proceeds helps battered women. Thrift shop has some very good prices on very beautiful things. I think I will find a hidden gem there one day.
This is a great store has lots of real nice stuff and supports the women shelters in Montgomery County me and my mom come here all the time
Pretty good selection, but the staff is rather rude. If it weren’t for their business shorts, I wouldn’t know there was any staff.
This is a wonderful resale shop with quality items at good prices.
Like coming here to see what I find! So many deals they usually get good furniture and decor goes fast! Ladies there very nice and I like that what you buy goes for a great cause!
(This is based on my donating experience, since I did that today but havent shopped yet.) It was very easy to donate! I took some gently used clothing for donation. All you need to do is drive around to the back and someone will unload your car for you! They took my three bags of clothing, no problem. I was back out to the feeder in no time. Fast and easy. Ill be back to shop there in the future.
Second time going to this store. Great place to shop. They have lots of great finds. If you dont like looking this is not the place for you. Friendly staff as well.
Always good deals,and affordable prices.
A valuable asset to the community! Donate used items and support the cause. Shopping here, I found some lovely treasures. The shop is organized, clean and full of great finds.
Always organized, fun and friendly. Great buys. We are regular shoppers.
They were very friendly and supportive!
I love how I can get a great deal on barely used clothing and know proceeds go to help support the womens shelter. I check often- Ive gotten some amazing pieces of furniture too. Inventory changes often.
Nice store. Wide selection of home decor, furniture, shoes, clothing as well as some sporting goods. Merchandise is well displayed and reasonably priced but shelves are crowded.
Fun selection of decor and clothing. The specials vary often and never disappoint. They do have an oddly large selection of Ann Coulter books in mint condition - I mean I understand why someone would donate them but I also understand why no one buys them. #shecray
Beautiful home furnishings excellent prices to prices.
Very high end furniture
Prices seem to be increasing on things, they do not often answer the phones when i call, tried multiple times throughout the year, each time i get sent to someones voicemail, when i do get to speak to someone. I used to like this place much better toward the beginning of the year. They still get good things but they ask way more for the things then they use to sometimes its even the same thing iv seen in there before not sure why theyd want to do that to people knowing it is not new items and the economy is already struggling?
Awesome. Great fines for kids/home.
This is an amazing store with great bargains. I have found some great furniture, housewares and children’s items at great deals. The staff is great. I highly recommend it.
I love the quality of the offerings and general organization of this store. Their staff is always very helpful & friendly.
If you like to decor your house and dont want to spend a lot of money. Try this place. I found a 4 x 2 picture frame of The Last Supper in very good condition $25 plus 60 golf balls and tees for $15. This place has many things.
Resale store benefitting battered women and children. Wide variety of items (furniture, toys, housewares, decorations, books, clothes) varies daily.
This thrift store thinks its an upscale antique shop. If you bring a child inside expect to be told that they cant touch the toys that they put right on the ground where kids will see them, and then they will follow you around to make sure your kids dont touch anything else... Multiple staff members were rude, I guess because I dared to bring children into a THRIFT store. I bought one breakable item and they didnt bother to wrap it up. Needless to say, I wont be back.
Love this place.
Wednesday is senior citizen discount day...lots and lots if gently used stuff, clothing, etc.
Always a new experience
Great resale shop for a great cause.
Best place to go for high end stuff at low prices
I went here for the first time today and loved it! Great prices and awesome finds 🙂
Great place with great purpose ❤
Great deals! Good place to get nice furniture at a great price! I work right next door so I love to snoop around during my lunch break. Their DVD and Book prices are unbeatable too. Paper back books for 75 cents! Full TV show seasons for $5.00! plus your money goes to a good cause.
Fantastic staff. Works entirely volunteer. Customers are handled on a case by case basis creating a caring environment. All sales support the womens shelter and housing of domestic violence victims & children. Very good place to locate start up supplies of all kinds. Highly recommend.
Good shop to find interesting things and good price
Love this place. We were looking for some gentle used nursery items for our baby. We found several things. The staff were so helpful. The price is just right. We now go often to get things from there. Its never overpopulated with people and makes shopping easy.
Great variety and prices.
Great place for used items. Awesome selection. Proceeds go to the Conroe Womens Shelter.
Awesome stuff and an awesome staff. Loved my first visit here.
Parking is a bit tight right in front, but ample parking near the store front. This is a grand treasure hunt. Clothing, shoes, boutique, wedding dresses, furniture, housewares, art, books, collectables, electronics, and plenty of miscellaneous. The quality is above the level of many resale shops, especially on furniture. For a fee, they will deliver furniture. (They will pick up donated furniture-call to schedule. They put various categories on sale regularly and have a monthly store-wide sale. Sign up for email notices. The staff can get swamped, but have a bit of patience and youll get excellent help. Always new things coming in, but super finds dont last long. Get it when you see it. It might even sell while you dawdle through the store. No shopping carts, but they have hand baskets. They will hold things at the checkout if youre finding more than you can carry around. Excellent ramp for wheelchairs. Door is not automatic and is a bit heavy. Staff and shoppers are very helpful. The inside can be a tight fit for wheelchairs to get around because there is so much stuff. Again, everyone is very helpful.
Best thing about this place is it all goes to a good cause, the Womens Center. Fun to peruse the stuff and find a must-have treasure or trinket. Love our coffee table from there.
Awesome!
Never had a bad experience in this store until now. If looks could kill. I felt so uncomfortable walking around, with the lady at the front counter watching my every move. The Messed up thing is, I was thinking about volunteering here.
Always find something here! Great selection of home furnishings at amazing prices. Most of the stuff here looks brand new.
Great prices. Very friendly and helpful staff. The quality of the donated goods is very good. Theres always something special in stock - - there really is! I dont live in the area but have been staging a home nearby in Spring, Texas and this store makes me want to move to Shenandoah.
I visit this store quite often because they have the best book selection of any resale store in the area. Their books are priced evenly, one price for all paperbacks, one for hardbacks plus they often have sales on books. This is not a Goodwill style book section, its more like a second hand book store. Cant beat the prices there. The store helps Montgomery County Womens Shelter so its a win-win.
This store is right next to my dentist, and every time I pop over there, I always find things I didnt know I needed!! Its like a treasure chest. Lots of furniture, household goods, you name it. Its always changing as stuff is constantly coming in, so if you see something you want, youd better grab it!!
This is a Non-profit relying 💯 on funding generated based on donations that supports the Montgomery County Womens Shelter. You have many items at a price cheaper than online prices. Mostly they sell used items with some new stuff as well.
If youre into resale shopping, this is a must visit. I shop here at least once a month (see my last but not least[!] note below).First, the prices are very reasonable. Second, theyre local. Third, employees are friendly. Fourth, theres a decent variety of items. Fifth, they often have antiques.Last but not least[!] shopping here you support the Montgomery County Womens Shelter thru your purchases[!]; they provide clothing to women and their children when needed!!!
This place really is something special. It is the retail extension of a charity dedicated to abused women. I give regularly, and shop there. Support them, please!
I purchased a pair of Cow boy boots from them. They were on sale for one half off of marked price. They were on sale for 70 dollars and I got them for 35 dollars. That was a very good price for boots that will wear for a wedding and maybe one or two other times. The money made goes to abused womens shelter.
I have donated to this organization numerous times and have had a few negative interactions, which is frustrating when youre donating so many items. I have donated several furniture items - including a large sectional and dining set, a small fridge, A LOT of clothing, books, toys and home goods. When you call the person who has answered the phone can be quite rude, when youre scheduling the truck to do a pick up. A year ago I had a bedroom set and living room set to donate and had it picked up by a different organization after multiple attempts to reach someone at MCWC and encounters with the receptionist. Through my experience with a womens shelter in a different city I know that these facilities need donations consistently for their various services and clients. And the resale shop feels like a great place to make consistent donations, knowing that the money flows to the shelter and various programs. However, its frustrating to run into negativity when youre attempting to do so. I made a donation a few weeks ago that will likely be my last. I had the entire back of my SUV full of stuff - mostly toys, clothing and things for your home. I needed to get it out and went to drop it off, but it was (mildly) raining. So I pulled up and the guys unloading were not very happy, which is understandable to a degree, but one was pretty rude. When I got out to help them unload I realized their store room was FULL and that they were putting donations outside. So I questioned this and said that I thought Id go ahead and keep it all and bring it another time when the weather was different so it didnt have to sit outside. I was gruffly told that it would be covered with tarps and wouldnt be outside for long anyway. And he continued pulling things out of my vehicle. Ive never shopped in the store, though Ive meant to go in and poke around for books. But I probably wont do that. Their customer service needs some serious work on all ends.
A whole lot more fun than Wallys! Prices are good too.
Love this store of Womens shelter. I recommend to donate your gently used stuff to Womens shelter, whenever u think of donations
My all time favorite thrift store. Ive been coming since it was Second to None. Great bargains and nice selection most of the time.
I love that purchases here support the Womens Shelter. Debbie and staff are helpful and kind. This is where I get art, furniture, and my awesome wardrobe! :)
Decent stuff very clean store but items highly overpriced. Almost everything has the resale value as online. Not sure why this showed up as thrift store in my Google search.
First time here n love it😍
Great selection and great prices. They also give reusable bags for the items you buy instead of plastic bags which is great!
Great deals and money goes toward a good purpose, the womens shelter
A person should feel welcome in a store, this is not the case here. I opened a box to check the condition of an item and suddenly hear WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!! the lady went on further to berate me like I was a child riding a bike around the store or something. Why would I blindly buy something from a resale store without looking at the condition first? I usually stop by the store every time I pass it but feeling like less than nothing I put the items I was going to buy back and walked out of the store for the last time. Shop here if you want just sharing my experience. Also most things are over priced thats why you see things sit on shelves for months and months.
Love this place. Good selection of quality clothes and furniture. Quick turnover of in inventory makes it interesting each time I visit.
Great place! Tons of selection. Great staff and a blessing to women in need
We have brought so many things to donate at Something Special because of what they do with it. Many local women in crisis have been assisted with this facility. They will give you a tax receipt and you can just drive around to the back of the building and ring the bell. They will even unload your car for you. You will have peace of mind donating here. My hats off to the owner and friendly employees.
Great place to donate AND shop! I often find unopened toys and like-new childrens books. The employees are always pleasant and its nice to know your donations help local women and families.Very organizd and clean... wonderful place with a heartfelt mission.
Something Special has become an over-priced junk store. I absolutely could not believe the prices when I walked into the store and began looking around. Before it was Something Special it was Rags to Riches, an affordable thrift store of clothes and housewares. Now, you can barely walk out of there with two items for less than $50, and Im not even kidding. Im very disappointed because proceeds have always gone to the Womens Shelter, but now with things being so over-the-top priced, I cant afford to shop there anymore.
Great place, with a great mission to help abused children and women.
Great pricesHelpful staff, easy access parking, great selection. Clothing, furniture, toys, books,etc....
Definitely not ADA compliant, but they had some great products and excellent prices. Love that they support a local cause.
Nice thrift store... Some Items are a little pricey others a bargain
My favorite second hand store. This store raises money for abused women. Everything in store was donated and is truly a treasure hunt. Has a 501c3 tax exempt status.
Great little place to find inexpensive items. Volunteers are helpful and eager to assist.
Truly amazing and not enough time to shop there is so many wonderful jaw dropping prices....love this place and recommend it all the time. U must visit Something Special...u will not leave empty handed.
Ive been told that all the proceeds go to help women in need unlike any other place. Thats why ill donate my stuff here. And things here are priced respectively. Cant complain. No bathrooms.
Cool resale shop. Always find good stuff!
I will be shopping somewhere else when a manger pucks her friend to sell to on the same item i was interested in over me seeing it first and yells at me across the road she is my regular customer well so am i is she really a customer or family i seen things going in her truck not rung up she is stealing from the center for her friend i seen it ..not paid for ever twice now i had enough do not donate here ever ..take to Hermann for humanity they are honest people.
They have such unique items. Some still have original price and original box on them.Glad to help sooo many abused women and children
The staff is very friendly, they unload your things for you, separate everything, provide you with a receipt even before you ask, I’ll definitely keep donating here. Thank you for your hard work and time you put in!
My experiences here have been hit or miss, but today really turned me off...over a book vs. Cookbook issue. $.50 cent difference isnt that big of a deal, but the way she insisted she was right ticked me off. It was more of a health book explaining paleo diet. My husband already dislikes the place abd refuses to go there as they are high prices and dont allow concealed carry. I guess we will donate and shop elsewhere.
Resale shop for montgomery county womens shelter...a little bit of everything but definitely no construction type materials
This is very unique place to found a nice antique wash bowl.
Hands down one of the best resale boutiques there is. I hear a lot of people complain about the pricing being to high. They support a charity that rescues ~supports~houses~feeds~clothes~protects~counsels and undoubtedly saves the lives of many many abused beaten women & children. They also help these women thru the court / police/ legal process. Getting a family that comes in with nothing & meeting their every need is expensive, these people do it for every single family that comes thru the door. The expenses must be astronomical. Its got to come from somewhere so paying a tad higher prices is soooo worth it. They have sales daily and mark down everything over time. Weve definitely gotten our best deals there. When we are in town we always stop by on our way back thru & miss it being right down the street. Keep up the phenomenal work Something Special you truly are something very very special!!!!!!!!!
Great resale shop all proceeds go to an EXCELLENT CAUSE, Interfaith of The Woodlands
You can find deals if you look closely. They have alot of things they can let go for way more cheaper. Again its all donated-free.
Nice second hand store prices are reasonable.staff is very polite.
Best place on earth
I bought a buffet table at very good price, friendly bilingual staff. I will be back.
The lady at checkout was super rude. I left without completing my purchase. Don’t waste your time here.
I shop here, but am often surprised at the high prices. Ive left empty-handed several times. The store is cluttered and dirty, with minimal organization. I liked the prices at Rags To Riches on Budde Road better. I guess the rent is higher here, so they have to pass that expense on to the customers.
Great place to find hidden treasures and support a good cause.
Amazing place
