I went through this dealer to sell my motorcycle. The process has been super smooth, I cannot rave enough about them. The staff is very capable that even with the repairs needed and the lost title, they got it done no sweat. I really appreciate them helping me with this and would highly recommend their consignment program.

After some back and forth with SUB, they seemed very interested in my older 250 for consignment. I mentioned the issues (at least the ones that I was aware of) and almost decided to pay to get it towed there just to cut out the hassle of finding a ride back home. In the end I rode the bike there and was then told they were not interested. They said it was rougher that what they typically sell. It was a lot of hassle to bring it there, not to even have them offer to sell it for a lower price. The experience would have been a lot better if they asked for pictures and such ahead of time, just to see if they are even interested in it, instead of having me bring it over first.

SUB is both a great used motorcycle dealership and a really good service department.I started going to them a while ago after a friend who I trust, said that he knew the owner and it was an honest shop with skilled mechanics. He wasn’t wrong. Dave is a nice guy who runs a straight shop. Also the dudes running the service department are awesome. They get it and are easy to deal with. It is the absolute opposite of what you get at a big money corporate dealership: No hard sells, honest labor rates for jobs, good communication. As long as SUB is around, I will continue to go to them for the select jobs that I am unable (valve adjustments), or unwilling (mounting tires) to do myself.

I’m Kevin from India, I’ve been to Seattle 3 times, but I’ve never been to Seattle used bikes. Just by reading the reviews of this place, I am sure that I’ll be a regular customer here! What great reviews, brought me joy just reading it. Chris, I look forward to meeting you someday. God willing, my wife and I may move to Seattle later this year. My dream bike is a Yamaha R1 2012-2014 model, I’d also like to try out a BMW S1000 XR. When I’m there, you’ll be the first person I come to. See you soon Chris. 😊😎

I am very impressed with Seattle Used Bikes. They have been the only shop Ive taken my two bikes to, as I have had no reason to go anywhere else. Their prices are very reasonable, their staff are very friendly and informative, and theyve always finished the work within one or two days (granted the work Ive requested has been rather minimal). Robert, in the service department, is always willing to share his knowledge and opinion on things. I would highly recommend SUB to anyone looking for friendly, fast, and honest, quality service. I’ve purchased two motorcycles from them over the past 6 weeks. Traded in the first one for the second. Everything has been super smooth and the staff at SUB couldn’t be more helpful to a new rider. They offer affordable and reliable service to customers and can often take care of things much more quickly than the service department at a dealer. In particular Chris and Robert have been instrumental in making me comfortable with my recent motorcycle ownership. Choosing to buy a used bike from SUB was by far the best decision I’ve made in awhile. Thanks SUB!

After going to a number of dealerships in my area, i decided to check out Seattle Used Bikes as they had the motorcycle i was looking for in stock. I texted the number on the posting to make sure that the motorcycle was still available. To my surprise, someone immediately texted back answering all of the questions i asked in my text; keep in mind that it was 9:00PM on a Friday at this point. I went to check out the bike the next morning and Chris was awesome to work with. Extremely welcoming, and super helpful. No pressure at all during the buying process, no dealer mark ups, no prep fees or anything. When Chris pulled out the invoice, the only line items on the invoice were list price, sales tax and license/registration fees. My out the door price at Seattle Used Bikes was 2k less than the same model at a local dealership. I would highly recommend SUB to anyone in the market. Easy buying experience, helpful staff and Chris was awesome. 5/5

Had a great experience with the SUB service department (Robert). My KTM 1090 needed an oil change, but I couldnt do it myself because of a stripped head on a skidplate bolt. SUB were the first shop to even agree to take the bike in when I mentioned the bolt. They went on to complete the job, the price was what they estimated upfront, I got an invoice detailing the oil change process (done the way the manual recommends) and got my leftover oil without even having to ask for it. Ill definitely be taking our bikes to SUB for service going forward.

As is becoming customary in Seattle, my rear seat cowl was messed up because one of Seattles upstanding citizens broke into my bike to steal my registration and insurance cards (??).I called around and Jake at Seattle Used Bikes was the only one who said he could fit me in and take care of it. I brought my bike in the next day, he was able to get the original cowl off safely and put the new one on in no time at all.Not only was he very careful with the bike, he wouldnt allow me to pay for a simple job, he just asked that I come back and I most certainly will. Everyone in the shop was awesome and I have full confidence in the expertise there.I look forward to going in again, and hopefully for a fun project and not due to theft. Thanks, Jake!

Jake and Marty in the service department are beyond generous of their time to a new rider. They were happy to chat about idiosyncracies related to owning a Ducati to help me feel at ease about my bikes behaviours. In terms of the servicing that was needed, they picked up on a couple items extra that I hadnt noticed (and I had done my research!) and addressed some issues with aftermarket parts that I had ordered.

3 stars because Dave is a good guy who strikes fair deals for used gear and bikes. Has no idea how to run a repair shop though, and his lead mechanic hides in the back telling himself ghost stories about dielectric grease...I brought in an older honda single cylinder to have the head gasket replaced last winter. Should have been a routine job. After the work was completed, the bike developed a misfire ONLY when the headlight was on. I knew that nothing else on the bike had changed beside the work that was done, and fueling was unchanged, so the problem had to be electrical. Brought the bike back in to look at electrical issues with explicit instructions. To my shock, they decided to tear apart the carb instead. Symptoms were unchanged after this and instead I received 3 incorrect guesses: battery, ignition coil, and dirty connections. The battery was replaced but was not part of the ignition circuit on this bike so it couldnt have been the problem, ignition coil was replaced to no effect, and the connections were similarly inspected despite the majority being untouched by the work. So, I brought the bike home and began troubleshooting myself, until identifying the misfire only occurred when current was flowing through the headlight coil, one of three AC coils on the stator. The only components that could be the culprit based on this would be the flywheel or stator. Upon pulling the left side cover, I found a film of iron powder covering the permanent magnets on the flywheel! I know this was not present before the head gasket job as the cover had recently been removed in order to replace its gasket. Unfortunately I did not have a flywheel puller to investigate the backside of the flywheel, but the presence of iron certainly could have affected the electromagnetic field common to the flywheel and the 3 stator coils. I also found iron shavings in the filter screen.I know that a cylinder stud had to be drilled out while replacing the head gasket, and this is the only logical source for the introduction of these iron shavings into the motor. Unfortunately I didnt have the time to experiment with replacing the flywheel or stator, but did prove that a lower current draw from the headlight partially alleviated the issue. So while SUB was initially responsive to my problems, there was consistent avoidance of my explicit requests, incorrect hypotheses, and when things didnt work out, cursing and childishness. If youre going to work on used bikes, youve got to handle things better when it goes wrong.

Dropped off my Multistrada on 9/22/20 appointment for modified 9K Service. They recommended I change the cam belts as it’s close to 5 yrs old. I also wanted clutch and brake fluids changed. Oil and filter was already done by myself. Didn’t give me a estimated finish date but “It wouldn’t take long and they would get on it” I’ve called about 6 Oct, notified them I and the bike were leaving on a 6 month trip on 10/15/20. “ Well make a note of that on the work order”. Called again on 10/15/20. “Bike is on the Lift”. I said “I’ve delayed my trip as I was supposed to leave yesterday. “ I’ll be in to pick up the bike tomorrow 10/16/20 and it needs to be together, finished or not.I’m now on the way to get the bike 25 days after dropping it off. I estimate the service I required was maybe 4 hours Max. YGBSM!

Review №52

I had an unfortunate and frustrating experience with Seattle Used Bikes (SUB). As such I will not take my business back to them. I would not recommend my friends/family take their business to them. I would not recommend you, the individual reading this review, take your business to them. If you’d like to understand why I feel this way, please keep reading.I scheduled an appointment to have my ’73 Honda inspected by SUB. It was running perfect, but having purchased the bike ~1 year prior I thought it important to make sure everything was in safe order.Once complete and no major items were found, I scheduled to pick the bike up after shop hours. When I picked up the bike, I noticed the fuel petcock was left in the ON position. I’m unsure how long it had been sitting this way. I noticed what looked like fuel overflow from the carbs underneath the bike. It was mostly dried up.I started the bike and began to ride home. No more than a mile from SUB the bike died on me. I pulled off the road and began to troubleshoot. The bike would not idle and only stayed on when I pulled the throttle. It ran very rough. The bike sounded like it was running underwater and it lacked any power to the wheels.I was concerned I would need a tow, but was able to get the bike to idle again and nursed it home. I let the bike idle and noticed it was not resting. Instead it was jumping between 1100 and 1600 RPMs.It was clear to me that my engine was not getting the right air/fuel mixture. Something had fouled-up my carburetors (which were cleaned/rebuilt ~2 months prior).I wrote Dave an email that night letting him know what happened and my concern that leaving the fuel on my have played a role in the problem.I was disappointed about the issue, but knew the issue was fixable. I assumed (and hoped) Dave would help remedy the situation. This was a mistake.I phoned Dave in the morning. As I began to explain my ride home, I mentioned my concern about the fuel petcock being left open. I could not finish my sentence before Dave completely dismissed that as a potential source of the issue. He quickly pointed to the fact that my fuel shutoff valve inside the carburetor would have to be malfunctioning to cause an issue. He went on to say that these bikes are designed so you should be able to leave the fuel petcock in the on position when not running the bike, even for extended periods.I could barely get a word in at first. It was clear that Dave and SUB were not going to accept any responsibility for this problem.I expressed discontent that my bike actually ran worse after I took it to SUB than it did before. Dave combated me with a metaphor: “Well would you be mad at your Grandma if you went to her house and...”He went on to tell me that if I wanted to schedule another appointment to have my fuel shutoff values inspected he could do that. I declined. I’m not comfortable with my bike in your possession. It is common knowledge that if you’re going to leave a bike sitting for an undetermined amount of time (as was the case here), you should shut off the fuel flow. It says it right on page 16 of my original owner’s manual: “STOP…. Set the value in this position whenever the motorcycle is not in use”.A simple google/YouTube search for “how does a motorcycle fuel petcock work” reveals the exact same information. The carburetor shutoff valves were put in place as a secondary shutoff when the bike is not in use. It can be prone to failures (clearly). Surely a professional mechanic should understand this.I was disappointed about the running condition of my bike, but I was genuinely put off by the way Dave handled it. He was combative and entirely dismissive of my concerns. He was unwilling to except even the slightest notion that his technician leaving my fuel running could have caused any issue. His only solution was to come back and spend more money at his shop. For that reason alone I will not take my business to SUB. Neither should you.

This shop may be capable of doing good work, but they certainly did not do any for me. In their defense, they had problems getting parts from a supplier, and this added to the delay. But it doesn’t excuse the incredible pattern of non-communication, broken promises, and outright lies I was told over the course of months. Here are the highlights. On June 17, I call SUB to set up an appointment to fix a broken speedometer and to do a servicing. Owner Dave schedules me for Friday June 27, and says that in the meantime he will order a new speedometer cable so that it will be on hand when I bring in the bike. (In fact, the cable isn’t ordered at this time, and nobody does any work on the speedometer until September 2.)During the servicing, SUB found two problems that actually did need attention, involving the rear wheel and the variator fan. On July 10, I get scheduled to bring in the bike on Tuesday July 22, once again with the promise that the parts would be ordered in advance. When I bring in the bike on the scheduled day, Dave does not tell me that the parts have not arrived, and instead he promises the work will be done by the end of the week. Having heard nothing by Friday July 25, I call Dave, who tells me they never got the parts and they haven’t started work. (I wonder when he was planning to tell me.)On Friday August 1, I call Dave, who says that the parts have arrived, that my repair is their first priority, and the work will be done on Saturday or Monday at the very latest. In fact, they do nothing until Thursday, when they start work and discover they were sent the wrong parts. A week later, I call Dave for status; he says he will call the supplier that day and call me back with news – he never calls back.On Tuesday August 19, I call Dave who tells me “I have the parts in my hand.” He promises the work will be done Friday at the latest. I hear nothing that week; when I call the next Tuesday August 26, he says that he is still waiting on the variator fan (turns out it wasn’t in his hand after all). He says all the other work is done (not true), and when the fan arrives, my bike will be the top priority. On Thursday August 28, Dave calls me to say that the variator fan has been obtained, and that the bike will be ready to pick up the next day at noon. When I show up on Friday at 1:30, I learn that the work is not done (and they didn’t call to spare me the unnecessary trip). Nothing has been done on the speedometer or on a simple fender repair I had asked them to fix months previously, and now they can’t get the bike to start – even though there had never been any ignition problems before. Dave suggests I call back at 5:30, and I tell him it’s his job to call me (which he doesn’t do until the next Wednesday). It takes them several days to diagnose the ignition problem, which arose only while the bike was at their shop. On the plus side, they don’t charge me for the labor involved in fixing the problem they caused. On Wednesday September 2, I get a call explaining that the bike runs now, but that when they finally looked at the speedometer they realized the problem is actually not in the cable; it will take at least another hour of labor to fix. I tell them not to bother. They seem like nice guys, but you can’t believe a word they say. I won’t be going back.

This is the worst experience Ive had with mechanics of any kind. I Took my 73 Honda CB 450 in for shift & fork adjustment on May 1. I wanted to get it ready for summer. The owner called me and said my carbs needed cleaning & syncing. My bike hadnt been running particularly bad but I trusted his professional judgement. Spent a total of $600. Afterwards bike ran very rough. Took it back & Owner assured me it would get fixed. I called 2 weeks later & they hadnt even looked at my bike. Called again a week later, they still hadnt looked at it. I finally got it back after a month! It still ran badly & Owner blamed my gas tank & even questioned my statement that bike ran fine before they worked on carbs. I asked for full or partial refund & he refused. I took it to Seattle Cycle Center & they fixed it to its previous performance. Runs great now! I honestly think the mechanics at Seattle Used Bikes were over their head on this one. And I am very disappointed they didnt stand behind their work & try to come to an agreement with me. I filed a complaint with the BBB. The response from the owner was that he wouldnt work on my bike again. No need to worry on that point!
