Cheap lunch! pick 2 and and rice or noodles for only 7 bucks. Also a small grocery section with good prices. Picked up some crispy garlic sauce with my lunch. It can get crowded at lunch time, but its still pretty quick in and out. There is no seating.

I often come here to shop when I want to eat Japanese food or when I need ingredients. The inside of the store is small, but the number of items is plentiful. The daily lunch boxes and sushi here are diverse and delicious. Hot deli also available You can also buy croquettes and fried shrimp separately. I think its convenient for you to buy and eat lunch or dinner in the hot summer. I think you can buy it cheaper than making it yourself. After 5:30pm 50% off all bento and deli items. However, it may be sold out by that time. Dont forget to get a fork and chopsticks when you buy a bento or deli. Because its just a take out only. No tables and chairs inside the store. There are many sale selections and it is a bargain. For example; Vermont Curry sauce mix for $ 2.99, half the price.I always buy a lot of things when I come here.If you have a recycling bag, I recommend that you bring it with you.I love MARUTA-SHOTEN and when I come here I feel like Im in Japan.

I found this great Japanese Supermarket using they Yelp Search tool. I arrived around 4 p.m. and checked out the relatively small but well-stocked grocery. I found a couple of nice bentos and proceeded to the checkout. The super nice Clerk told me that if I could wait 3 minutes that the bentos would be 50% off. Now it explains why the Bento area was busy. I went back and said limit 3 per person so of course I bought a third one. Sure enough three bentos for about ten bucks, such a bargain!Be sure to check out the sales on the flyer close to be entrance. The place is closed on Sundays but Im looking forward to returning around 4 p.m. again to grab the half off bentos at 4:30! Strongly recommended. By the way, theres also a hot food area but it seems to close around 2 pm.

I was just there to buy food for lunch and they declined my debit card twice!! It was very embarrassing and I was forced to use my credit card. I called my bank and they told me that the merchant flagged me as fraudulent?! How in the hell can someone flag you and assume this?!? I can not believe this happened to me! How rude, and racially profiling. I will not go back there and will tell everyone my experience!

Listen, I try and not throw 5 stars out at every Tom Debbie Harry place I visit, but I dont just visit Maruta Market, I relish it. I think I might even love it.This unassuming gem in Georgetown has a thorough selection of Japanese and Asian dry and fresh foods - noodle, ramen, sauces, select fish, kimchi - but the magic I suggest you let put a spell on you is the hot food counter and refrigerated grab and go area. From about 11-2 ( double check hours) you can choose from a variety of hot fresh boxed in front of you savoriness, that includes selections like: tender pork, salmon, Mongolia beef, steamed, vegetables, steamed or fried rice, or noodles, and other lunch selection. In another hot dry case you can find various priced items like pot stickers, egg rolls, beautiful wings, and the amazing karaage, a Japanese styled fried chicken: Ive had other preparations elsewhere but this is by far my favorite version. Plus the prices are very reasonable. Oh, and in the cold food area you can find egg foo young, vegetable tempura, sushi, tender calamari, and other delights. So, should you stop by Maruta Market next time youre in Georgetown? Only if you want to treat yourself to the magic of good eats :)

You wont find better Japanese take-out anywhere else east of Hawaii. Incredibly affordable deals on their regular-priced hot food items and sushi/sashimi plates and bentos, Maruta even has a happy-hour at 5pm-closing where all rolls, hot deli, and bento combos disappear off the shelves at 50% off! It always feels like they just made the food fresh from market ingredients, and their uniquely delicious flavors pack a punch. The Japanese staff are the kindest ever and their smiles might leave as strong an impression as the quality of their food and service do. I wish they had tables to sit and enjoy and its elusive as to why they dont already. Most likely because their private parking lot, tho ample for drivers coming and going, wouldnt fit the entire city who would come and want to stop to enjoy this gem of a Japanese Shokuryōhin-ten.

Service is pretty much stand alone, meaning youre in charge of your own service. Its basically, you select, pay then leave. Youll probably get a thank you here and there, but dont expect the workers to go above their duty to serve you. The sushi is often good: still fresh after a couple days, even when theyre purchased at the 50% off deal. Everyday at 5 PM, all sushis are 50% off & a few items are 20% off (like seaweed). Sometimes its not busy, but if you want more selections, get there by 4:50. Parking is minimal.* 50% all sushi can now be purchased by 4:30 PM instead of 5:00.
