Our experience with Dirt Exchange was amazing! We needed gravel for a landscaping job at our home. Did everything through the website, then they called me to confirm the delivery. In less than three days, I had the gravel delivered to my driveway, exactly how I needed it and where I needed it. Many, the delivery guy called me in advance, making sure I was ready for the delivery. He arrived at the scheduled time, delivered the gravel right where we needed it. The price was also very competitive. I was not able to find a gravel service that would deliver to the Seattle area until I found Dirt Exchange. Highly recommend them!

Beat place for dirt, gravel, compost, etc. Prices are great for bulk…far cheaper than getting multiple prepackaged bags from a garden store. They also allow you to purchase 5gal buckets of anything for a reasonable price though the savings there aren’t nearly the same.

Couldnt have been easier. I had a passenger vehicle loaded with broken concrete pavers. I parked right at the front as I pulled in, walked in, got charged a very reasonable rate, then drove over and unloaded all my stuff right into the concrete pile. I was expecting to pay for a full cubic yard, but I got charged their minimum charge rate, which was a great surprise. Will recommend this place to others for sure.

Good customer service, dirt was ordered and delivered with no problem. We got 3 cubic yards of organic veggie mix and..... there is A LOTTTT of plastic in the dirt. Every shovel scoop I will find 3-5 small pieces, its way too much to pick out. I know this speaks more to systemic problems with compost and the fact that plastic is EVERYWHERE now. But if you are wanting to avoid plastic in your dirt I would not recommend getting it here :(

This is the place for ya.Despite their response, treatment experienced and observed indicates they value some of their customers and strive for excellent customer service to some customers and definitely not others i.e., treatment that would not be called respectful to any human. Business taken elsewhere; letting this be known far and wide to contacts.

Dumping is unsafe. Multiple trucks dumping at once. Someone will get killed here.

I love this place. The service here is pretty good. They let me shovel my own gravel and bark into my truck myself every week since they opened and very few places let you do that now days. I would give 5 stars for that. But 4 stars because they have filled my sub contractors trucks with 3/4 yard when we pay for a full yard and we measured it for the holes we filled, I wouldn’t complain but they wouldn’t make up for it and insisted it didn’t happen so I just let it go. Next reason for only 4 stars is the 10 visits they have claimed they don’t have 1/4- or 5/8- in stock and each time I have o show the office ladies that it is in stock after paying for alternatives. Seems like there is a communication breakdown between the drivers who load the supplies and letting the office staff know what’s actually in stock and what’s not. No big deal because in all 10-15 cases they actually had what we needed when they said they didn’t so it worked in our benefit and we love this place. Very organized compared to any other similar businesses around.

Ordered two yards of washed pea gravel online. I placed the order late in the day and was contacted by a dispatcher the next day and was given a wide variety of delivery dates and times. Then got my product delivered on time in the quantity and quality promised. Best of all, the price was much cheaper than my last gravel purchase at Salmon Bay Sand and Gravel (I would have only gotten one yard for the same price at Salmon Bay).It was easy, professional and economical. They overcharged me $90 for fish compost. I didn’t see the charge till I saw my credit card bill. They didn’t even send me an itemized bill before they charged me. I had call in and ask for it.

Dirt Exchange is is great to deal with. Ordering is easy and fast as is delivery. When I wasnt happy with the veggie mix I received (too much sand), Norm was quick to return my call and fix the problem. While I wont get that product again without seeing it first, I also wont hesitate to order from them again for other things when the need arises. I really appreciate the quality customer service.

Great place for dirt and gravel. Its only $5 bucket or $20 per half yard. Great if you need a little or a lot. Super convenient since its in Ballard. Staff is friendly and helpful.

They always have what you need in terms of gravel, bark and soil from the smallest gravel 1/4 minus to pebbles and rocks the size of your hand. More importantly is the only place around Seattle that you can go dump dirt and that is a great service and I am grateful for that. They also take concrete and yard debri. Prices are fair too.

Dirt Exchange is a great value for homeowners, and it is awesome having a business with their model right in town. After living in my house for a couple of years, I realized that my yard had seen better days (compacted dirt without a lot of organic matter left). I started buying a half a yard of compost a week (twice, spread over all beds and grass), followed my half a yard of arborist chips per week (four times, spread 2 over all beds as mulch). My Subaru Forester holds about a quarter of a yard of either (I bring six Rubbermaid bins and a shovel) and the Dirt Exchange is okay with customers making two trips. I did all of that about a year ago. My yard still looks great and all of my plants/trees look so much healthier. All for about $200 (plus quite a bit of exercise).

I was highly impressed by the friendly customer service and overall professionalism of employees at the Dirt Exchange, from taking my order for mulch over the phone to delivering the mulch. The mulch delivery person did a great job dumping a full truckload of mulch in a narrow 10 foot space. They have an excellent website that thoroughly explains their products and services with everything you need to make a purchase decision. There were photos on the website that show you how much various volumes of products look like in a truck or dumped on the ground. This was super helpful to me, as I find it difficult to visualize how much mulch a cubic yard is.

I am impressed with this company and very satisfied with their products. I used their veggie garden/fish compost for our raised organic garden beds this past summer and the yields were outstanding, especially the tomatoes. Ive been gardening a long time and yet Ive never had tomatoes grow like this. I guess that I deserve some of the credit, however having this great soil/compost base was key. I only fertilized with fish emulsion a couple of times during the summer.Ive also recently ordered 5/8 clean rocks for our front driveway. On the day of delivery the driver called to confirm where to dump and was spot on. Same with the soil, they can be really precise with their dump trucks. I have no reason to go anywhere else for soil/rocks/bark mulch!I will be placing yet another order for more rocks this year and bark mulch in Spring, thanks Dirt Exchange!

Easy to get in and out, and pretty short wait times.

We planted our garden for the first time this year. Dirt Exchange helped us in a couple of ways. They hosted an event where we learned from a professional gardener how to start our garden and what to plant. We also bought bags of fish compost from Dirt Exchange. We were amazed at how much our garden produced! Will definitely come back to Dirt Exchange.

Had no idea this place existed in Ballard. You can buy dirt and compost by the half yard and load it into the back of your car. They also have mulch, clean gravel and various tools and other gardening supplies in the shop. Prices are competitive with Sky Nursery and this place is really convenient if you want to buy in smaller quantities and haul it yourself.

The Dirt Exchange is great - picked up garden soil and compost for a couple of raised beds. Price is considerably cheaper than buying in bags, service was great, and was in and out in no time.

A very quick and easy process dumping off dirt, they do not accept cash and dump prices are on the high side and vary
