Spring break isn’t spring break without a trip for some ice cream. Fun name, good location and decent selection but the ice cream itself was pretty average. They had a steady stream of people coming through, I suspect due to limited competition. The churro ice cream sandwich looked interesting but we opted to stick with a standard scoops and cones.

This place has a really fun concept! And an even more fun menu. They serve ice cream in just about every way you could think of, I swear. I got a cone where they literally wedged part of a slice of key lime pie into it. Not sure if i’d get it again but in the moment it was fairly epic. I’d like to come back and try some other odd options just for comparison notes. And this location is tucked into the adorable historic downtown of Sarasota which is a super nice area and perfect to walk around after grabbing some cold delight. Give it a try!

I have been this place only once and not planning on going back at all. There is something weird about this place. They have a nice ambiance and good service, but their restaurant set up is awkward. They have the menu up on their wall, but you cant see what you are ordering because their is a WALL... It is so weird. I have never seen anything like this before especially at an ice cream place. Also, the place looks big, but there is no space to sit outdoors and you have to wait quite a bit to sit inside. Maybe with a better set up, they can accommodate more tables and chairs. The reason I am giving this place three starts is because of their nice staff.

We drove past many of our other favorite ice cream shops to come here and try it out .$10 on pretty much a brownie in a cup and a small side of soft serve …. Wasn’t offered any toppings pretty basic and plain. Asked for caramel but there was not any on the ice cream nor brownie . Out of churros . Probably could have got the same thing for way less money somewhere else .

We planned on visiting several Ive cream places while we are in town... I cant imagine a better one than this. The cookie brownie bar worth ice cream scoop is big enough to feed 4 for dessert. Everything we got was better than we expected. Go here.

My husband and I came here after dinner one evening and I had the churro sandwich with strawberry ice cream. I loved how large of a variety of ice cream and other menu items there was. The ice cream and churro were great and Id definitely recommend to anyone looking to satisfy their sweet tooth. The prices are reasonable and the staff was very nice and helpful.

We consider our family to be “connoisseurs of food”. We don’t spend a lot of money on material things, but we spend a lot of money of food. Let me tell you, the ice cream here is so dang good and we’ve eaten our fair share of ice cream.

First time having a pretzel cone. It was delicious. I enjoyed it with pecan praline ice cream. FAT DONKEY is such an appropriate name for this place. I love it

Delicious! I had the waffle sandwich, and it was amazing. It is a legitimate waffle, with ice cream in the middle. You can’t go wrong with this! Really good!

I have eaten at the Fat Donkey in Cocoa a few times and loved it. Im glad they opened a West coast location. Ill will go there every weekend!

I ordered the churro ice cream sandwich. It was greasy and more like a grease soaked donut that was re microwaved than a churro. The ice cream was ok. The gummy bear popsicles are literally just sprite and gummy bears. It tasted like ice. Just not what I was expecting.

Stopped in for cappuccino milkshakes on a hot afternoon. They were super friendly and the ice cream looked good but the shake just tasted like a cup of milk.

Cute place! The ice cream was good and the pretzel cone was a fun touch. The atmosphere seemed a little bit crowded and it was a little odd because there was tall solid blue drywall between the customer and ice cream. This wasnt due to covid, its just how the place is laid out which I thought was a bit odd for an ice cream shop. I wish I couldve seen the flavors!

Went yesterday and will not be going back.... from the moment of walking through the bleach smelling uninviting atmosphere to generic ice cream that’s hidden behind a wall ( lmao 😂). Why wouldn’t you serve locally made ice cream????? Or make your own..... nothing special at all .

What a good time! The people that work there are great! 10/10 would have a dance party at the Fat Donkey! We go here about once a day sometimes every other day and don’t think we’ll stop anytime soon!

They say they have chocolate dip (brown bonnet), but they have no idea how to make it. It could also be that they don’t use the right kind of chocolate. It took the server 5 tries and my husband ended up with a small amount of vanilla swirl in a cup with a tiny bit of hard chocolate on the bottom of the cup. Not worth it.

Theyre a family owned business, and theyre doing it right! Their selection is sure to have something for even the most discerning of palates. I had the mango sorbet, and I cant recommend it enough!

Friendly staff and great ice cream. Two scoops was probably close to a pints worth, maybe a little less, for about the price of a fancy pint at the grocery store.

Went there tonight and waited in line for 10 minutes to place our order. They had a young girl working the entire place on a Friday night?!! She was hustling and seemed like a good employee but clearly in over her head! The place had an odd smell as someone previously mentioned....couldnt quite put my finger on what the smell was! It is one of the only ice cream places Ive ever been to where the ice cream is behind a wall and not visible to the human eye through a glass cooler like most ice cream shops...kind of weird but not the main reason for my 2 star review. Management needs to staff it with more than one person on a weekend and be able to help run the place if someone calls off of work which common in the food and bevarge business as I worked in this industry the entire time I was in college. Might give it another try but my first impression was not good! We ended up leaving after we waited too long so I cannot comment on ice cream itself....

After a night of drinking all I want was a warm chocolate brownie with a little icecream and this place delivered! Miguel awesomely removed all the parts I did not like and it fed my soul. No cap! I dont even like chocolate... thats the weird part about it lol. Thank you Miguel! The perfect end to a great night

I didnt get what I ordered and really debated whether or not to say anything. I finally did and the reaction was...odd. Almost argumentative. It was disappointing. I ended up throwing it away.

$11+ for a small jar of brownie and scoop of ice cream. if i didnt get the ice cream, it was 8.50 for the small jar half filled with brownie. it was ready in 2min so i assume it was microwaved. the jar is a cute touch but 8.50 for that little bit of brownie in any container isnt worth it. get something else
