What a hidden gem!!! I was fortunate to find Fay and team while I was in a really big transition from colored brown to my natural 80% grey! Only the most talented and trusted hair artists like Fay can pull this kind of highlight blending off, believe me. She cooled down my brassy highlights and toned the brown to ashy. This strategy, that she seemed to know innately ,really helped me to tolerate the grey growth as highlights worked really well as she was very talented and they look completely natural! Before she did the color a cool updated cut helped kick things off and worked really well with my style - like I was her old friend! Crazy great talent here and she was training a young lady and I really loved that too and the whole vibe!!! Thank you Fay and team!! You guys rock!

I rarely write reviews, but I have to share my awesome haircut experience with Sima. Let me start by saying that Im a 27 year old man and moved to Santa Barbara last year. Ive been struggling to find a haircut facility/artist that could cut my hair the way I wanted. I tried a couple of barber shops and salons prior to this one, but was never truly satisfied until I now.Sima was awesome from the moment I stepped through the door. She offered me coffee and listened to my requests while providing feedback. She asked lots of questions and made sure she fully understood what I wanted. As she was cutting my hair, she explained what she was doing and the effects of each cutting tool and technique she was using. After the haircut, we finished up with a shampoo, head massage, and a styling. One of the best haircuts Ive gotten in a long time. I will be making her my exclusive stylist in Santa Barbara. I paid $50 + tip and it was worth every penny.

I found this place going through online reviews and I am glad I chose Underground Hair Artists. My stylist was Sima and she was amazing, kind and patient with me. She did a great job both cutting and coloring my hair. She took time consulting and discussing to better understand what I wanted and delivered it. I got a layered haircut and then blue/purple balyage... Defintely recommend this place!

I bought the underground brand sea salt spray from here and it was more like hairspray or something!? It made my hair feel and look terrible! The spray was overpriced and I donated it after one spray. I think the owner is very nice but overworked and doesnt realize the quality of these underground labeled products is lacking!

The Underground is excellent. Its comfortable, has great music and everyone is friendly and helpful. Fay does a great job on my hair, and I frequently get compliments after a visit. On top of that, you cant beat the scalp massage during the hair wash, it wipes out any stress from my day.

While visiting SB on a short business trip I stopped in at Underground Hair Artists for a quick grooming and had a really good experience with Marissa. It can sometimes be a little awkward when there is little to not talking but I enjoyed some good conversation and Marissa also made a good dining recommendation while I was in town. The overall ambiance and vibe o Underground Hair Artists is cool but most importantly I am happy with my cut!

I have been seeing Vanessa for 6 years now. I came to her for some serious rescue after I stupidly tried to home bleach and tone. She consulted with me for a long time about what my dream hair is and long term goal to recover from the damage. She started out with serious deep conditioning and toning to make me un-orange for the next couple visits. Then in the ongoing years, she would use only non-bleach coloring, and we would have fun with purples and greens etc for festival season. Because of the damage I had done, the hair was brittle and wouldnt grow very long, but she would always give me a cute style that worked for me as we grew out the damaged bits. 6 years later, after loyal patronage and advice from her, I have my dream hair: long, healthy, and has been a multitude of colors since then. I also have difficult fine, but thick curly wavy hair and she has suggested easy to use products and techniques that fit my low maintenance style. She is truly a hair artist, wizard, guru, and a delight to be around. I have total hair ADD, so I will often come in wanting to do something crazy, or not have an idea at all. Vanessa will give me unbiased advice about my options or fun ideas she has that will satisfy that itch without me regretting it later. I recommend this place to everyone. The reception staff are friendly and accommodating, and the free beer or glass of wine is such a nice perk! You guys rock!

I didnt hate it, but I sure do have the worst cut Ive ever had.The salon has great ambiance. Front desk staff were 50/50 - one was pretty disinterested and rude. The other was nice and helpful. But ultimately the true test is the cut.I chose a senior stylist, Sonia, because i was hosting a large event the next day and wanted a solid cut. I was unimpressed with her communication. She spent little time getting to know what I was requesting and ended up taking off a lot more hair than I was comfortable with - or had asked for. She kept repeating your hair is too healthy, it just wont fall nicely. Not words you want to hear from your senior stylist.I gave it a week because I know sometimes change can take some time to figure it out.I gave it two weeks...just to see if I would come around.I still think its the most unflattering cut Ive ever had. Getting a really bad cut can be a lot of emotional stress. Dear Sonya, please remember this when working with your new clients. You have an impact on their well-being.Wont return. Wont recommend.
