I came here to look for rap and hip hop CDs. I was so happy and satisfied with the overall experience, I was greeted and asked if I needed any help. Amazing collection of CDs, I walked out of the store with around 10 CD albums based on rap and hip hop. Great record store!

Great selection of vinyl records and cds! No price gouging here! For the price of things in San Diego Record City is very inexpensive. Military discounts available, and the friendly helpful staff is more than willing to spend time to not only help you find something but very knowledgeable of music and info about it.

Why only 3 stars? It was a 3 star experience; neither here nor there. I was in the shop last week, first time, and noone behind the counter said a single word to me the entire time. Not hello, can I help you, nor goodbye. If stars matter, maybe start with basic greetings? Selection is good, seems busy, but I didnt get any kind of feeling from anyone there.

Love this place! Went with a friend expecting prices to be insanely high because they had a smaller selection than Taang but got 5 CDs for around $25 and two shirts for $25!! Nice, talkative, and friendly employees. Wonderful selections and prices, would shop here again!!!

This place was great! They have a large selection of all kinds of music. I ended up leaving with 7 records and a free band shirt for my $100+ purchase. They have a whole $1 section as well as a deal where you save $1 for each additional record you buy. The guys at the counter were very friendly. Ill be back.

Ive gone to stores, to look for music, my whole life. To me, browsing thru a record/music store is a normal part of life. Record City is a great example of this type of store, and it was so fun, rooting thru albums and C.D.s to find just the right ones. My sweetie showed me this store, and Im so happy she did :D Cant wait for an excuse to come back soon.

Great store! They have tons of records and CD’s. They even have a dollar section for Records and I found quite a few gems! Highly recommend stopping in. I think I was in there for about over an hour and it was super relaxing flipping through the stacks. It throws you wayyy back, even with the great records playing while you shop!

Great finds, great prices!

We drive to Hillcrest just to visit this place. Unlike most record stores, two people can be in the aisle at the same time. The owner is a really cool down to earth guy. You can find some amazing deals too. I always check out their bargain bins. Hubby and I have visited this place two or three times and every time my husband has bought the record being played. It’s hilarious. Great variety and good prices. If you are starting your collection or just looking for some new ones, check this place out.

Im so glad I stopped into Record City last week. I found a copy of Tools Lateralus, for a great price. Definitely cheaper than I was able to find online.Their selection was great from top to bottom, especially their jazz section. The employees were knowledgeable and friendly. The store also had a great feel, open and light. I enjoyed listening to other shoppers excitedly discussing their finds around me as I looked. The atmosphere was really fun.

Great selection. Plenty of new and used vinyl in all genres. They have CD and cassete options. Box sets behind the counter. Friendly staff. Parking can be a little tricky, but worth checking out.

Awesome Record Store! Phenomenal selection of used and new vinyl, that’s organized really well, and the bins are easy to flip through. Great old school vibe in the store. Loud New Wave/Post Punk music playing through legit house speakers. The way it should be! Good dudes running the shop that actually love good music! No attitudes or hipsters here. Anytime I stop in there for one record, I end up leaving with a stack of records. You should definitely check this record shop out. You won’t leave empty handed!

In from out of town and I hit several record stores in San Diego. This one was the best. New and used selection (punk/indie) was fantastic and it was priced reasonably/fairly. Loved the store and am looking forward to coming back.

Popped in on a business trip to peruse and found a personal fav. Owner not only gave the LP a spin in store, but offered some music recs and a great deal on shipping. Order arrived quickly and double-sleeved, couldn’t recommend this store enough!

The owner was very friendly and accommodating. Prices are very fair, on the lower end of Discogs prices or even less in a lot of cases. I also loved that he kept a water bowl out for the dogs walking in on a hot day. Next time Im in town Ill definitely be coming back.

Over priced compared to others in the area . If you are looking to sell do not go here. The Manager there Graham lies about the value. Make sure you do your research prior to going in. This place use to be decent. But, a business is only as good as the honesty of the people they allow to represent them.

I like this store a lot. Have seen some nice records when I’m there but haven’t gone digging yet. I’m usually here to buy dvds and blurays cause their deals are too good. Great staff too.Edit: Went to buy records. Finally found a great Wesley Harding original pressing which I was looking for. They have good records and prices ain’t too bad. Recommended

Great customer service. On Tuesday I called multiple record shops looking for Peter Frampton albums because I had a last minute opportunity to meet him and have him sign some items on Wednesday and my Frampton album covers have not aged well! Nobody had even one album avaialable, or so they said over the phone. Then I reached Graham at Record City, who almost immediately confirmed he had a Copy of Im In You. Unfortunately my work hours and their business hours were at odds, so it looked like I was SOL (no fault of Record City).On Wednesday afternoon, I found a way to get to Record City on my way to the Frampton concert and called to see of the album from Tuesday was still available? Not only was it, even though I had said I couldnt make it in, Graham still took it upon himself to keep looking and found a copy of Frampton Comes Alive for me as well and they were waiting for me!I was ecstatic and as I paid, I gave Graham a $5 tip which he refused, multiple times! No need, he was just doing his job. I dont buy much vinyl anymore, but Record City will be my go to whenever I do and I suggest you make them yours too.

I love love love this place... As far as record stores in San Diego go, this one takes the number one spot! The first section is full of new music (indie, rock, hip hop, etc). Lots of new releases and recent favorites that are sure to please. There are also a lot of used CDs, tapes, and DVDs to look through up front. The back area is full of awesome used records. I love the $1 section. It takes a lot of effort to find a hidden gem, but isnt that the fun of browsing for vinyls? The other areas are really easy to navigate, listed by genre and alphabetical, highlighting the most popular artists. I think the pricecs are really fair here. Ive paid anywhere from $1 to $25 for a record I was looking for. I will be back again! and again... and again... and again......

I made it a point to visit some record stores during my vacation to San Diego, and Record City didn’t disappoint.Compared to what I’m used to locally, Record City has great variety and the prices were much more reasonable.Whether intentional or not, I appreciate how the stacks seemed curated. A lot of stores hoard dusty and dingy records that you have to endlessly comb through. Not here! There were gems for all ears.My pick-up included King Gizzard, El Michels Affair and Maggot Brain by Funkadelic– the latter which I had been searching locally for months.I hope to make another visit when I’m in town again!

This is the best store to buy or to sell used CDs and records. They are very particular about what they will accept and if it is scratched, forget it, they wont buy. When they do buy, they pay better than anywhere else I have dealt with in regard to used CDs and DVDs. Then, they turn around and sell them for a decent price, too. I have sold to DVD blowout and they give me 50 cents a DVD and then turn around and sell for a very high price, but Record City will pay me from 1 dollar to 5 bucks and turn it at a decent price, so, in other words, they make a profit, but they are not greedy and they treat their sellers as well as they treat their buyers.As far as selection goes, they carry all kinds of music and DVDs. Their DVD prices are really the best I have found out there and I know I am getting good quality merchandise because of how particular they are when they buy from me as a seller. The staff is friendly and very, very cool. They have been around a long time and I hope they stay around a lot longer. They do a good, fair business with great customer service!
