We went to Point Loma Sportfishing on a full-day fishing charter that took a big group of us people out on the water to catch fish. . The skipper and the crew worked hard all day and they knew what it took to get us into the right fishing spots where we had fun catching some great Tuna and rockfish - which is delicious eating! The crew even cooks breakfast burritos and burgers for lunch so nobody went hungry. They also fillet all of your catches so you can enjoy them later or take them home with you as well!

I went on the New Lo-An and would recommend the boat!

Our group of 4 were on the Pacific Islander this week. We caught a couple of small fish but it was difficult when Captain Smiley, his family and friends were hogging the best spots on the rails It’s not right to advertise that you have 24 fishermen when you actually have 27 or 28 fishing when you include family and friends. I would not recommend the Pacific Islander or Point Loma Sportfishing to anybody,

Not sure if its because of the pandemic or what, but our trip on the 5/22 PM trip on the Daily Double was not what I expected based on the numerous positive review. For context I have been on a full day trip with Seaforth back in July of 2020 and I have written a handful of negative reviews in my life.Pros:The crew was responsive and quick to help with tackle issues and taking the catch. (At least Jason was)We caught fish!Con:Unprofessional-Example 1, right as we got underway one of the crew members starts lighting up a giant cigar in the middle of the boat.-Example 2, I get that we are on a fishing boat and dealing with fish and fish guts is part of the experience. I also understand the need for chumming the water and flinging the bait fish. What I dont get is the crew members inability to pause for a couple of seconds while a customer is approaching the bait station so they dont fish parts flying towards and landing on their face.-Maybe I have unrealistic expectations but everyone smoking on board slightly ruins the experience.Got charged about 30 bucks for them to gut and remove the gills.. I get times are hard but Seaforth was charging $1/fish to fillet. $28 to not fillet 12 fish seems kind of ridiculous. Maybe the burlap bag was $10...

Most disappointing fishing trip ever!! The Mission Belle was fully loaded and went for a 12 hour joy ride with Captain Shawn at the helm. We hardly had a chance to have bait in the water. The few times we saw any fish, he stoppped only long enough to get our bait wet, before we were told to reel it in. Only one small yellowtail was caught for 26 fishermen. Only one other guy had a fish on all day, no one else even had a sniff! In fairness, some of the regulars said it was a completely different experience with Steve (the boats owner). But neither I or they will be in the boat for the day long joy ride with Captain Shawn again!

Horrible fishing, but hardly their fault. They did what they could to track down the fish, the fish just werent biting. We couldve stuck around longer in each area though. Wed drop lines and then a couple minutes later the captain would tell us to reel in. At least my father-in-law caught one!The food was AMAZING. One of the best burgers Ive ever had. The breakfast sandwich was delicious too.The deckhand was great. Extremely helpful. Double-checked and fixed any tackles that were tied wrong. Gave a demonstration on the best knot he uses. Great demonstration on the fishing itself as well. Always kept plenty of bait in the bins for us.Only real issues I have were:- we set out a bit later than we were supposed to- 2 boat changes the day before and morning of- boat was a little crowded at 18 guys going out to fish, wouldve preferred capping it at maybe 10. obvious they just wanted to make some more cash by cramming a bit more heads onto the boat- didnt stick around long enough at each spot

I had a great experience on the El Capitan for a 2 day trip. Great Capitan who makes a great effort to get everyone fishing and having a good time. Make sure to have your passport ready and check in at least an hour early. Bring cash for tips and fileting the fish. My advice would be to ask a lot of questions from the crew during the downtime if it is your first time tuna fishing it is very fast paced. Smaller boat but only 18 people vs. all the boats with 30 plus people. We brought in about 360 fish. A couple years back I also had a good time on the Point Loma boat 👍🏻🤙🏻

I recently had lunch at Mitchs Seafood (restaurant next door) and mistakenly dropped my car/house keys into the water. My heart, soul, and life dropped with those keys. Bloop. It felt like it was over. The water was too deep to go in, and I sure as hell wasnt going to jump into that water with my clothes on and nothing to change back into. BUT, a wonderful man who goes by the name of Josh, who also happens to work at Point Loma Sportfishing, came to my rescue without me even asking. With all the glory emanating from his camouflage jacket and fishing gear, he tried to use the hook in an attempt to find and fish my keys out of the water. Alas, it did not work! BUT, he said, Fear not! I am here until 7:00 PM and will help you again once the tide is lower. True to his word, a few hours later, Josh tied a magnet to his fishing gear, and like the true hero he is, he was able to retrieve my keys from the depth of the greenish black waters. After a few hours of internally freaking out, Josh was able to save the day! I owe him so much! Im definitely going back just to see him, buy fishing stuff that I definitely dont need nor know how to use, and buy him a meal and a drink (or a thousand!). If youre ever in the area, please gift Josh something on my behalf. High five the guy! Book a fishing trip and support the business that employs people like Josh, cause they deserve it! Whatever you do, make sure you make Josh feel as amazing as I felt the second he successfully came to my rescue.

Mission Belle - NOPECan you imagine being on a 13 hour fishing trip with perfect weather conditions? Sounds great, right? Now imagine only casting 3 times - 5 minutes each time - during a 13 hour fishing trip. Unfortunately our full boat paid for a Captain Seans wild goose chase. You cant catch any fish if you arent given the chance. 3 times totaling 15 minutes on a 13 hour ride is completely unacceptable. Surprisingly, no fish were caught at all. Definitely dont go on the Mission Belle unless you are looking for a cruise of the deep sea.

My son and I have fished twice on the Daily Double and had a good time both times. I found Captain Fred extremely personable. On the first trip, he saw my 12-year old looking in at the bridge and invited us in. We talked fishing and boating. The rest of the crew was helpful both times. We rarely had a fish to the boat before someone took it off to our bag. The second time, we caught the boat limit for the number of people so the fish was divided so that everyone had the limit or close.I dont really know what to say about the bad experience others have had. We did move around a bit when there was not much being caught. . But, we stayed in one place plenty of the time and we each caught a lot of fish. They did charge for the bag and cleaned the fish for us for an additional fee. But, overall, I thought it was reasonable. We would go back again.

Super nice trip! Well worth the $80 dollars or so to go on a lil cruise on the water and see plenty of animals of course. The fishing was a plus for us since we come from a town with only a lake that’s about an hour away from home. The deck crew, Barry, Kary, Jason and The Captain Chad were nice and informative. It got awkward when different locals started telling me the deck crew doesn’t want us to catch fish or even setup our poles wrong. We did notice 1/4 in our groups had a totally different setup. I went with a locals suggestion and added some weight to my line and went back and forth from two different poles separate setups. Chad seen that one of our poles was different when he casted it and reminded his deck crew to be thorough. They are straight up about sea sickness and vomiting in the toilets so don’t take it personal, they’re just trying to keep their jobs on the easier side like anyone else.We got to keep the fish that were big enough so don’t be throwing anything in your sack, let the crew measure and be sure. Skip the walk of shame when they throw your baby fish overboard lol. We kept 2/6 fish.Jason was chill we chatted and I noticed yeah he does hold a cigarette in his mouth but it wasnt even lit most the time plus but he wasn’t the most helpful on the crew I felt.Barry the Galley helper made some nice breakfast food I recommend eating on board rather than the H&M landing. Hits the spot for munchies.Kary was a chill dude seemed non chalant about everything just went with the flow it seemed.Chad was the captain so we didn’t see him much until we found a decent spot and he came down to fish.

Went on the Mission Belle 3/4 day trip with my dad and boyfriend and had a great time! I am apparently a delicate flower when it comes to the ocean and got very seasick. The captain and crew were very understanding and didnt hassle me about not participating during the first half of the day. When I finally snapped out of it they made sure I hooked some fish and made up for lost time.A few reviews mention how often the captain moves, which is true. But hes moving so you can catch more fish. You wouldnt stand on the corner of the street waiting for a grocery store to come to you, would you? No. So he brings you to the fish. Im not sure how many fish we caught that day but when we stepped off the boat everybody had some fish.My one complaint is that we were told tackle was included, its really not. You get to keep what they give you (not the rod and reel obviously) so the small fee is worth it. You also have to pay to get your fish filleted at the end. Again, not a big deal but just remember to bring some cash for that. Also, remember to tip the deck hands!!! They work hard to make sure you have a good time and deserve anything you give them. A great trip!!!

It didnt go that way because the staff was very rude (among other things Im not going to mention). As a reimbursement for that horrible experience, they gave us a gift certificate to come back another day and go fishing again.Yesterday we reluctantly went back to go fishing again for my dads birthday. My was a completely different experience we had! We knew the parking was horrible there, so we showed up an hour and a half early. Parking was no problem. So we grab our stuff and go to check in. There was no hesitation or problems with the certificate. They gladly accepted it and guided us on to what to do next. The man in the shop who sold us the licenses and gave us our rental equipment was very nice and welcoming. When it came time to get onto the boat, we were greeted by the captain with nice small talk and made us feel at home. The whole crew on the boat was very knowledgeable and helpful with anything that anyone needed. Their communication was clear and polite. Even the food coming out of the kitchen looked really good. The captain knew the right places to go to catch fish and make the whole experience good for everybody. I will definitely be coming back next year if the company keeps up with what they did on this last trip.

My wife and I planned a trip a few years ago to go on an over night full day fishing trip. I called Point Loma and asked how much it would cost for going on the trip. I asked specifically how much for the trip including all charges and tackle. They quoted me a price. When we showed up and paid that price we found out they misquoted us. The price did not include tackle nor did it include the cost of berthing on the boat. We ended up spending close to $80 more than we were quoted. On the boat (New Lo-An) we were treated very badly. When we needed help it was hard to find. My wife had a fish to the boat. The deck hand hit it with the side of the gaff hook knocking it free. We both caught one fish each and my wife caught a second fish which was also hooked by another fisherman. Her hook was in the mouth his was snagged on the side. They agreed to split the fish. At the dock after the trip neither of us got our fish. All the fish was distributed and no fish for us. They told us our bag had accidentally got put in the galley. They left us and came back with a tiny bag weighing about 3 pounds. So, we were quoted wrong on the cost of fishing, we were treated badly, we were robbed of our fish. No way will we ever go back nor would we recommend them. This was the worst fishing trip ever. We fish from San Diego every year and with other companies never been treated like this.

And yes, no auto-refund of course. Spoiled morning, and lost vacation day. One phone call could change it all.Original 5 star review: Its great! Awesome trips.

Trip was crowded but we squeezed in. Seating was limited so expect to be doing a lot of standing up. We had caught 3 legal fish out of our allowed 10 a couple of hours in and were told we could not keep anymore as the boat had reached its limit, what this actually meant was the more experienced fisherman had caught more than their legal limit and had used ours and others limits instead...Thats simply not ok. They sell it to you that you will get to keep ten fish and trust me you will as theyre gonna want you charge you to fillet the fish you didnt catch. I want to keep the fish that i catch otherwise i might as well go to the local store and buy it from there. Ive also never been so nickel and dimed in my life. Its a business model that leaves your customers with empty pockets when they walk off the boat or worse still embarrassment when they realize the 30 bucks they had on them isnt enough to cover all of the surprise extras and its cash only. Its a business model that makes money no matter what the cost is even if that cost means you wont ever come back. I personally think you can find a better company for your fishing needs.
