Had him do a valve job on a set of ls3 heads. He did a great job and had an incredibly quick turn around. I have nothing but great things to say. A machinist with this level of service is incredibly hard to find and he will be getting all of my work from now on!

This small high quality shop is In one word, impressive.Impressive because when you speak on the phone, although it is a one man shop, you get him not an answering machine. When he answers your call, he is friendly and even has humor.It is impressive when you see his shop as it is organized efficiently so the work comes in one door, proceeds through the operations on machines placed sequentially in the shop and exits another door. His cutting tools are neatly placed in their drawer. This is the best organized of 11 shops I have worked with.It was so Impressive to see his cleanliness that I was inspired to sweep out my shop after seeing his shop.He even has an impressive dog. It must be half dinosaur and looks like it could tear a tire off a car.It is impressive that he could surface my head and have it back to me in a day. No one else could do that. Most of the other shops take a couple of weeks. Two of his competitors said we will call you when it is ready and then called two months later. He treats his customers far better than that.

The straight six heads I needed rebuilt arent performance based builds, so I was surprised when the estimates and actual price matched, and was very affordable. The work was done perfectly, on time, and on/under budget. Robert takes pride in having components leave his shop ready for success.On the soft skills side, Id say hes top tier. I have never had such in depth discussions with a machine shop before and had it be a respectful, two way conversation. Being from a small town in Kansas, I personally enjoyed coming here rather than a larger chain just out for you money and ready to kick you out the door for the next customer. Rob went above and beyond on a set of custom aluminum cylinder heads for a 427w we were working on. He squeezed them into his schedule for a rebuild to fit our short timeline for the project. His quality and workmanship were excellent!

Rob is very knowledgeable and very good at what he does. i brought a cylinder head to him that detonated, went through all 3 layers of the mls head gasket, and knocked out 3 good chunks. He filled it, decked it, cleaned it up and had it back to me in the time he said when we first met. His prices are more than fair, excellent service, great equipment, and fantastic turn around time. I have definitely sent more people his way and will continue to do so!

I’ve been going to Rob for machining for about a year now, and he has always done a great job. I have looked around Salem for the best machine shop, and I’ve found that this is the cheapest, best quality, and best customer service experience you’ll get. I usually bring my heads in for a complete valve job; fresh seats, valves, guides. Any time you don’t need something or it isn’t completely necessary, rob will let you know. It’s hard to find honest people like this in the automotive business.

I had Louthan Competition rebuild the heads and block for an older Toyota V6 truck engine. I am very happy with the results. Rob was meticulous and thorough, applying his expertise in the critical areas that were beyond my capabilities. The engine actually runs smoother now than when it was new. I attribute this to his balancing of all the rotating parts as an assembly. Robs interactions with me on the project were professional and helpful. Rob is one of most knowledgeable machinists I know when it comes to cylinder heads. I only trust him with my customers work and his turn around time is the best Ive ever seen. And if porting on Harley heads needs to be done they will flow better then anything you can buy on the market when hes done.

Great work for a good price

Went and took my head in the get it resufaced and I got back and it looked almost brand new!! Over 300k on that head and it looked like strait out of the factory! Really recommend this guy!! Coming back for sure.

If i could give 6 stars i would. Rob did an awesome job on my heads. Truck runs awesome now. I will be taking another set of heads in next week.

Rob is very helpful. I have had. 3 jobs done there. He inspected the heads on my bronco.... fabricated a custom carberator plate for me and did the head job for a mazda pick up. Im always pleased with his work. He is knowledgeable, fair priced and efficient. I would recommend his work to anyone.
