Been shopping here since the early 2000s, and have had many great experiences here, but will not return. Prices are quite a bit higher than other local shops across the board. Customer service is terrible. Greet your customer? No way. First words I heard from any employees after 10 minutes of browsing the store was you got a mask? In a condescending tone. Sell you a barely legal firearm? No problem... break a mask mandate(not a law) no way! Don if you read this, Im very disappointed in what has become of your shop. I fully understand youre in the City, which is a whole different animal than the County, but youve gotta get this figured out.

Staff didnt SELL me gun because I didnt have passport. To my understanding I dont need a passport until the day of PICK-UP. I took my business elsewhere. Very rude and unprofessional asian gentleman. The type of store where they are only nice to you if they know you.

River City Gun exchange is a reputable and solid firearms shop thats been in the community for a long time. They know what they are doing and are doing their best to maintain their quality of service that the community needs. Fair, honest, knowledgeable staff that help each customer get exactly what they need. Like most stores in California, they are subject to the times. And they are doing a damn good job.

Must say this is definitely one of the better stores around staff is knowledgeable it feels like it’s always really quick to be in and out also they have a good variety of inventory if they don’t they most definitely will get it for You

Long lines. Take forever to get inside. Guns are all overpriced. Make sure to look online and compare prices to other gun stores. Ammo is over priced. Would give it a zero. But Only gave 1 star because a few workers there are cool. Thats about it.

Wouldn’t recommend going here I bought an over priced Glock didn’t mind as first because no other store had it I got it and I’m pretty sure it was used and sold as new I didn’t notice till I got home and took it apart all sales are final so there’s no point in arguing just beware if you go here definitely wouldn’t recommend it tho

The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Anyone complaining about long lines and long wait times must be from the future. Because every store in the world had that issue with this pandemic.My one star review is for the prices. The mark up on most of these guns and even cheap lowers is insane. 800$ for a Glock that should be 500-550 I went to another shop Paid 250$ less for the same brand new Glock. And if they have a used one its 700.lol an ar 15 lower thats around 60 bucks anywhere else, you will pay 225 with the dros. lol These prices are insane. The weirdest thing was, I couldnt even stay in line with my gf and see a gun with her. They have everyone separated. And if you take your foot off the dot for a few seconds they are very strict. I went to another place, I was able to see a gun and so was my girl, and we were able to look at them together.If you want to buy from here to support the staff thats fine, but do understand you might be paying anywhere from 60% to 100% markup. And a 60$ lower for 150 thats 150% mark up. So be warned.Wish there was 2 tabs of stars. One for staff and service I would give 5 out of 5. For prices 0 out if 5. lol

During covid the line will be short or long. Plan on your transaction, from line to payment, to take a lot longer than expected. Not their fault.My first experience, a salesperson seemed a little short and impatient, but the second time the sales person took their time. I told them I was a first time purchaser and they took the time to recommend a firearm. Prices seem high but it is a local shop that probably deals with small margins.

As with other gun stores in 2020, there was a long line and a substantial wait before you could actually enter to purchase. However, unlike the other stores Ive been to, River City actually had an inventory of both guns and ammunition available for purchase. The salesperson I had was both friendly and knowledgeable and I walked away very satisfied with my purchase and with the service I received.Bottom line; as long as you have the proper documentation and legal ID, they can help you complete your purchase efficiently and reasonably quickly. Gun and ammunition purchases have become far more complicated and costly in this state so as a gun owner you have to research and keep up with the constant changes, restrictions and fees CA lawmakers have imposed. If you dont recognize this, and fail to have the right documents and proper ID ready, then your efforts to purchase a gun or ammo will make you quite angry and frustrated. But if you do, then River City should be able to help you get everything you want and need.

Very bad customer service. The worst service I’ve seen. Was willing to purchase an ammunition. When I get into the store, afro-american security didn’t even let me move and watch other products they’re selling. I was about to purchase something else, unfortunately the asian-american salesman was very rude and harassed me because of my english dialect. Was very upset and did purchase nothing on this store. It was my first and the last time. Will not advise anyone to go there, unless you like to feel yourself like in the prison.

Less-than-honest communication regarding availability. They had a rifle I wanted. Then they didnt, then they did again but it was on an auction site and sold for %150 of the normal price. Youre better off sticking to the big chain stores like Sportsmans Warehouse, Big5, Cabellas, etc. The people who work the chain stores arent as worried about every little dollar. Even auction sites are better than trying to work with these smaller operations. These independent gun shops have gotten more and more unreliable. Apparently they are really squeezing all they can out of this sales rush. Im just disappointed that small business is not as good as the big chain stores.

I had a terrible experience with river city gun exchange today. I purchased extended magazines online and was sent a confirmation to my email address. When I arrived to pickup my online order I was stopped at the door and asked if I was law enforcement I explained that I wasnt I was then told he couldnt sell me the magazines because of me not being law enforcement. I have no record and purchased a firearm from them a ago. Discrimination at its finest very unprofessional. Its been a week and river city gun exchange still have not refunded my online purchase I will never do business here again they have poor customer service and will take your money.

Price gauging is illegal! I have been a long term patron of this gun store for two decades. They are charging $75 for a box of ammo that normally sells for $12-15 they have lost a client for life i will never support this business ever again i am also filling a complaint with the DA’s office for price gouging. Boycott this place and all small gun stores that are taking advantage of the american people right now!

Very friendly super nice men work here. For a place so busy you think it would be like the DMV, but nope! Everyone helped me make sure i take my time on the permit test and also gave me an appointment on when to pick-up and exactly what to bring. People in line were also super nice.

I have purchased two Glocks here. They have a good selection of weapons and ammo, especially during the pandemic when everyone has run low on or out of almost everything. The employees are knowledgeable and they take the time necessary to help you.In normal times the wait was not bad. Now, with so many first-time buyers because of the elections and the strict guidelines due to COVID, you will want to prepare for a significantly longer wait.

They have a great selection but alot items are overpriced. The real issue tho is the wait be prepared to wait in line at least 3-4 hours

I couldnt afford what I came in for but they really took the time to explain other options available for my budget and I appreciate that. They dont try to get you to by the most expensive they really work with your budget and give you options and break down what you get for the price in terms of quality. I can respec honest business people like this. I didnt know too much about quality of certain guns and they make it simple to understand

I must say this is probably the worst gun shop I’ve visited in my entire life. Not only are the salesman slow but they are unorganized and are rude. They are price every item including optics, ammunition and all of the guns they sell. Even without Covid being an issue I wouldn’t buy gun l lubricant at that shop they need to get their act together as there are many other good shops east of Sacramento that aren’t there to make a buck on people that don’t and shouldn’t have guns. So many first time buyers buying weapons that they know they should not be selling these first time buyers it was almost comical watching some of these people try and figure out how to put the safety on or off or even how to load the weapon.My mistake for making the drive one I’ll never make again.

Anyone that is bashing this shop needs to check themselves.This is the best shop I have been to in northern CA, and I have been to many over the years. From SLO to the Elmer Fudd shops down the road from Lassen National Park, River city gun exchange is the best by far.

They will gouge you until there’s nothing left. No moral compass here. They want 5x the normal price on some items! They clearly have no issue taking advantage of desperate people when items are hard to come by. It’s always buyer beware, but in these times something needs to be done about ANYONE charging this kind of premium.

Worst place ever big rip off. Went to buy a gun they made me wait over 30 days just to cancel my purchase and charge me 150 dollars for nothing didnt even get to touch the gun. So I basically went in there just for them to rip me out of 150 dollars. Stay away there are alot of other stores to go to.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff that get you out in a timely manner and have very good prices on ammo competitive with the big box stores. They have a massive selection of used and surplus firearms as well as new. They also have a very good layaway program that Ive used a few times. This is my go to gun shop in the Sac area.

I was coming here off and on the last 4 years, customer service starting getting poor, everytime I was standing by the Ar15 area, where they have lowers, barrels etc, No one wanted to offer me any help, Ive watched them literally walk towards the back of the store and avoid me...like 3 times.Now that had covid19 has happened...RCGE has gotten worse, : STAND HERE..WAIT TILL YOU ARE ASKED TO MOVE, DONT GO OVER THERE, PLEASE STAY IN YOUR SPOT, NO QUESTIONS UNTIL ITS YOUR TURN, SIR GO STAND ON #4 SPOT..ETC.. Its a tense environment there, feels like working at the county jail. Not friendly, over reactive. Act as if you are wasting their time, rude, and DONT ASK FOR THE PRICE OF AMMO THERE..OMG..FORGET IT. Maybe if they had the prices to read clearly , it would be all good. And I come in here to support this place with my hard earned money to get treated like Shi!! Go somewhere else, please. Like Rocklin Armory, Ammo Depot, Redline Ballistics etc. You will thank me.

I wouldnt go anywhere else. I live in Vallejo and I have made 4 trips to this place despite having a fair share of gun stores in the east bay area. I hope other gun stores learn a thing or two from River City about customer service. The only downside for me personally, I wish it was closer, but its close enough lol. The staff are polite, kind, patient to answer questions, knowledgeable, not to mention THEY HAVE THE BEST PRICES! I know its busy this time of year, but dont let this Exchange go out of business. They deserve your patience, they deserve your business. They work hard for it!

I live in Chico area, River city had the best selection of guns on hand.And a large selection of used handguns with- in a hundred miles of my house. I checked several places over the last few months. The only complaint is they dont have enough ppl to answer the phone.Ben B

After a long Search for Firearms During Corona Quarantine.. I am pleased to say I found the Perfect place to buy a home defense Glock 22 4th gen .40calI came in yesterday and the service was great the Workers stepped outside and checked all paperwork to make sure no one was wasting time in line. Once you get inside this store literally has Tons of Guns no shortage here. It’s not really anything I can say bad. It’s a gun store and that’s what these guys do best. Be prepared to stand in line it forms about 1 hour before the doors open I suggest bringing a chair. Great Price Point and patient sales associate he let me view about 10 or so different guns this was my first buy but will not be my last RCGE you have a customer as long as I’m in California!!!!!!

Very unpleasant experience. At least the gentleman who manned the door was pleasant and professional. The cranky younger fella inside the store was not. The Glock handgun I was there to pickup, which belongs to the security company I work for was dirty, without a case, and handed to me for transport in a cardboard box. The feeling in that store is that no one wants to be there.

Stopped by to just take a look. Real decent place. Decent prices. Good selection. They even have a pretty decent selection of used and consignment guns.

This guys know their stuff, I bought 2 firearms already and I am very satisfied with the service, good team, good prices. I thought I buy a rifle at Dicks sporting goods and god did I waste a month they forgot to complete my order and waiting time was unbelievable, never again. This will now be my go to gun store.

We get their flyers every week and we finally decided to drive down and take a look at their inventory. Im ready to purchase the gun that I want and when we came in, it was a bit crowded and there was no system on keeping track of whos next in line. We stood by this employee who was speaking to a customer in Hopes to get him to help us next but all they did was keep talking about politics, I get people hate gun laws in Calif. But this is not the time to keep chatting about it when you have a ton of customers who are ready to make purchases. The customer who was hogging the employee looked like he had already made his purchase, I dont understand how the employee cant cut the conversation to help the next customers. I work in retail and i have to do it all the time. I definitely wont be returning and do not recommend this place.

Good help getting me my glock19 and making sure I was aware of when to pick up and what to have in order to receive the firearm.

I was in the market for a 1911 Stainless model. I was referred to an employee manning the pistols station and gave me a hand finding the correct model. The best part was the mutual respect factor given. The shop was overall a good experience and some trust has been earned by the staff. Id recommend coming in when its less busy like a Tuesday or Wednesday.

They take the time out to show you how to use your gun. They also give you tips/ information on your purchase. Very friendly but serious people willing to help to the best of their ability.

Awful customer service, the young man that helped needs to improve his service skills. He “accidentally” dropped my bad & didn’t offer to pick it up.

I was hesitant to visit this gun shop because of some of the reviews but Im so glad I took my chance. Ive been there 4x now and each time Ive been there Ive had a different counter person and they all treated me and my wife with courtesy and respect! Educated us where we were feeling a bit lost and had a great deal of patience! They even carried out my ammo boxes with me and helped load my car! Ill definitely be doing more business with river city gun exchange!

Best selection of guns anywhere within 50 miles with excellent prices. YES its busy, wait your turn in line and dont walk around. The counter people see whos waiting and take them in turn. If they make a sale they will have the next sales person help you. Dont expect less than a half hour wait during busy times. Tuesday is horrible picking up a gun because if their ten day fell on Sunday or Monday they pick it up. I waited 45 minutes to pick it up but it was the only day I could. Grin and be happy you have a new toy. If you want to browse come on a weekday, a whole different experience. One Asian guy mugs me for some reason even when picking up my Arsenal AK. Gotta Love gun guys.

I tried calling for a specific gun that they sell there from their newspaper ad. Wanted to make sure they still had it in stock, and I get a very rude old man telling me on the phone that they would get the right guns when it comes in to the store. Don’t know what that means. It’s either a yes or a no, but it was too hard to ask him a simple question for a gun that they sell over there. He then told me that he had two other customers waiting for him even though I only took less than thirty seconds of his time. Just lost a buyer right now, and will take my money elsewhere. Thanks for nothing.

I have been a loyal customer of theirs for many years. Sadly, today I came here to purchase another firearm from them. Im active duty military non CA resident, I had all of my CA mandated documentation for legal purchase ie orders, military ID, home Bill, drivers license. They refused to sell to me because they did not have the knowledge of active military orders (even after I politely explained how military orders work). The middle age white male with a short Grey beard standing in the AR15 section questioned my integrity stating how do I know these are real orders. (Youre absolutely correct, I traveled from a my gun friendly state of TN to CA with fake orders, show you my current military ID and to sit threw afternoon I80 traffic so I could illegally purchase a firearm....you caught me genius!) In the past they used to know how to handle military customers very proficiently. Now they have lost me as a customer and all of my coworkers who shop there on behalf of my advice. Please educate your staff! Update, later in the day I went to Nor Cal Gun Vault in Elk Grove, much more knowledgeable and professional. I was able to purchase my firearm with no discrepancies using my same orders River City Gun Exchange refused me service with. I understand CA is not firearm friendly and it strangles dealers with regulations, but when I have all the proper legitimate documentation and Im an active duty service member show some respect, if youre not sure about something attempt to find the answer , dont treat me like an idiot.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE ANYWHERE! If you value customer service of any kind whatsoever DO NOT COME HERE! Came in to take my Fire Arm Safety Certificate test. The employee that assisted me was an older Asian gentleman (kinda resembled a tubby Lo Pan from Big Trouble Little China, with the long scraggly goatee, authentic long fingernails, the whole 9 yards!) Very rude, very brief, very short, and repeatedly, (mind you this was my first time ever doing this so it wasnt like I was doing much talking or much of anything to have agitated him other than stand there quietly, maybe it was because I wasnt Asian?) I believe the owner is Asian so this guy must have definitely been family to have talked the way he did to me (a paying customer!) Needless to say I paid for and took my certificate but immediately left and completed the transfer elsewhere, (but I wont say where because I dont want this to sound like Im putting in a plug for any other business.) My only business is to leave an honest review of my experience. This place must get ALOT of business/customers or have the cheapest prices around or something to afford to treat/speak to a customer they way they did to me, (or get so many customers that it is an annoyance?) Irregardless rarely if ever have I actually left a place of business so completely and utterly pissed off. I would hate to think how you would be treated if you actually had a real problem or issue with anything, would never go back here and you can bet I will say likewise to anyone I know! I wish I could put zero stars!!!

First time at River City Gun Exchange today. The store was very busy but they had plenty of employees available. I was very impressed how much time Bob spent with my wife and myself as well as the slew of questions he had to field. Id go back in a heart beat. You notice I didnt say anything about prices, Im not sure exactly how they compare with the other stores, but customer services, availability, and selection is more important then always trying to get the best price.

OH MY LORD! This place was absolutely packed. The store is small, so 50 people made this place feel like the Viper Room in LA during a concert.

Always have a good experience here, everyone is always very friendly, helpful and professional. They also consistently have the best prices in town, no hesitations recommending anyone to go here. If you ever have a bad experience, it was probably your fault.

While I’ve had wonderful customer service in the past, today I picked up an expensive rifle, the gentleman helping me, could care less about his job today, didn’t ask me one single question, no congratulations, no do you want to know anything about this particular weapon, nothing. Barely got through unboxing without staring at every other client in the room. Completely weird, and disappointing experience.

Today was the second times I have been in to River City and both times I was talked to with respect. My questions were answered clearly and efficiently. The clerk even gave me some suggestions on which handgun would be the best for me without too much recoil . I will defiantly be going back when Im ready to purchase

Good prices, great employees, and would defiantly buy a gun there. Service is only good when you actually get help. There are TONS of people waiting in there every second they are open and it never relents. But, once you get help it is great!

Have bought three guns here now the staff is always rude Ive come to expect that now with them but this time Sacramento Black Rifle had a pistol for a hundred dollars cheaper than they did they told me that they would not price match. Noobs beware. They took advantage of my ignorance and charged me 85 for literally nothing.I asked them to lower the fee $25 because I got bad advice from the clerk, and they refused.Apparently $25 is worth a 1 star review. Keep in mind I WAS WILLING TO PAY A FEE. I just thought what they were asking was absurd, since I literally GOT NOTHING and I felt the clerk was to blame.The clerk didnt tell me I could do a background check BEFORE buying the gun (and thus getting trapped in a fee). The clerk took my money and THEN handed me a paper that said no refunds. Seems like they should reverse that order.I warned the clerk I had falsely failed an unrelated background check recently and he said oh. Didnt mention that I could get the check with no risk or fees. Fully encouraging me to spend my cash and then refusing to give it back.Also WATCH THESE GUYS CLOSELY!!TWO clerks tried overcharging me the first day by $50. Apparently they cant tell 4s from 9s on their own price tag. They really tried hard to over charge me that first day but luckily I am very aware of my surroundings. I had to ask a third guy to check the price tag before they finally realized I wouldnt fall for it. I wonder how many times they have gotten away with that... Poor customers!!

Looks like a good selection, but when I visited they were busy with customers and didnt acknowledge me or others waiting for help. Even a fellow who pulled something from the case in front of me-I just wasnt getting the vibe. Or anything. A well be with you shortly goes a long ways. Otherwise, I dont know how much time I might waste waiting and possibly not getting any help. I ended up going to MTG in Elk Grove. Not as big, not as much inventory, but helpful and friendly.

Decided to buy a shotgun, was told this place probably had the one I wanted or could order one. After a 30 minute wait due to staff chatting with each other, I received the absolute worst service from some fat white guy. Asked a basic question about barrels, received a one word answer and he TURNED HIS BACK TO ME. Left and looked for another gun shop. Found one on Watt and 80 and spent 3k on the exact shotgun I wanted and had all my questions answered WITHOUT ATTITUDE. Avoid this place like the plague, especially if you look young like I do. Complete lack of respect!

My wife and I recently bought another gun, first one from River City. We were impressed with both the selection and the service. They have been very busy every time we have gone there. These guys are great.

Great place for a new gun enthusiast! Their prices are okay but its their customer services that wins me over every time. They usually are busy all the time and it might take some time to talk to someone, however, once you do get a person almost everyone (at least everyone I have spoke with) is very knowledgeable and will take their time with you. Always recommend my friends to shop here.

Bought about 4 guns here. Used to think this was the best place for guns until I had a factory problem with my rifle. When I purchased the gun, I was told that I had lifetime warranty on it. I spoke with the warranty and they told me to ship it back. I took the rifle back to the store for shipping but I was told that there was a service charge on top of the shipping. Any other gun store in Sacramento will take care of all warranty issues without hassle. Theyre prices might be slightly cheaper than other store, but its not worth the bs you have to deal with once you have an issue. How are you going to sell me a defective gun and then tell me there is service charge for getting it worked out. I wish Google had negative stars.

When I went to the store, I had high hopes. The store has a wide selection of firearms and what ever accessories you desire. However, the customer service is terrible. The associate working there treated me as if I was an idiot and refused to answer questions regarding the firearm and told me to go home and google the questions I had. River City Gun Exchange will never get my business... I do not recommend anyone to this shop, go else where.

These folks are fantastic. Be patient. They are busy but they have a great selection excellent prices and a wealth of knowlege.

Large inventory of guns, knowledgeable staff, good prices = one of the best places to buy a gun in Sac. Always look at the average rating....one or two people will always complain. Find one or two sales people in any specialty shop that you feel comfortable with and always have them help you. Like any top restaurant in Sacramento, they are almost always busy. This is not really a negative.....

Bought some bulk 9mm - great price. Did not have too much time to gun shop but they had great selection and prices on what I did see. Definitely next stop to get that 1911.

My first visit there was quick and painless. Place was packed but they had roughly 8 workers helping customers and I was helped in less the 2 minutes. The gentleman who helped me was knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Originally came to purchase ammo and a mag and ended up asking about a rifle I wanted to buy. Come to find out, the shotgun I was looking for was $47 cheaper than MSRP and anyone else selling it. Their ammo is cheaper than Walmarts also. Will be purchasing all my ammo and guns from them now on.

Been there many times, spent a lot of money there. Great store, except there is one younger guy who talks to you like you are stupid. Super arrogant for no reason. I guess every gun store has one. Besides that one guy, excellent store, great service all around, nice people.

River City is busy for a reason, they have great prices, they advertise consistency on their sales and their staff are knowledgeable & confident. Also do your home work on what you want buy as they stock most popular CA compliant product. I asked my salesmen to bring out two of same handguns from stock and I chose the one I preferred after testing the slides and trigger feel. Tues are be very busy for pick ups and Sat for weekend shoppers. Dont get your feelings hurt if your browsing and want to shop talk guns for 15+ min with a staffer if theyre busy. Keep your place in line and they will surely professionally help you get the product you want to see, review fit & finish & possibly purchase. Really not a place for first time looky lous to see their first time firearms and want to go through the entire display case just to handle them. I go there on Thurs, I know what I need, pay up, then I browse a few min before I leave.

Terrible customer service unless your friends with the people who work there. Been there twice and waited for over 30 minutes each time. And the when I said something the guy lies to me and tells me the person who he was helping was there before me. I am very aware of surroundings, plus my wife was waited for me in the car and the same guy parked next to me well after I had gotten there. The older Asian gentlemen who works there told me to speak up. Heres me speaking up dont shop at this place they are just playing on your fears of more gun laws.

I bought form them, they have great prices on ammo. I was able to get 38 special Winchester ranger for 16bucks!

They have a wide selection of ammo and guns, but every time I go in, the employees are condescending and short. If you make an appointment, be ready to wait 30 minutes after your scheduled time. And they are charging almost .80 cents a round for 9mm!! Ridiculous.

Made my first gun purchase today. After reading all the reviews about the employees being jerks at pretty much all the gun stores in Sacramento I was not so excited about going gun shopping. I was expecting to be ignored and hassled for asking a noob question. But it was actually quite the opposite. They were very busy but had a lot of staff on hand. They were working quickly to get every one taken care of. Mike helped me and was really good. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Due to the good customer service, I decided to not shop around (this was the first store I went to) and make the purchase there. Will go back for all my gun needs and more guns for sure. The store is small and busy but it is not a bad thing. High recommend RCGE.

They have a lot of inventory on new and used firearms. Their prices are typically the lowest in town. They arent too friendly or customer service oriented as other reviewers have noted. I still recommend them however.
