First time there, ordered a drink and sandwich to go. Food came in about 10 minutes, but was missing the drink. Apparently they only bring you your food and not the drink, didntknow. After asking questions, our drink had sat on a random counter for over 10 minutes as people order over it.Horrible system, no communication, never going back.@ Old SoulYes, you are correct, I do not drink coffee and have never EVER ordered at ANY coffee house as I clearly explained to your staff that day. They suggested the drink, we ordered the sandwich, we were given a number and told our order would be brought to the table. If your staff was more aware of what was happening in your shop they would have made the connection to the drink order not picked up and the unexpierenced customer waiting two tables away from said counter. Thanks for the experience, in the future I will wait till after service before leaving a tip and not add it at the counter payment. 🤔

I wont be back because I dont need to go to a place where the server gets snobby with me because Im both surprised and a little bit miffed that they dont refill the drip coffee for free instead of charging $2.50 for another cup of drip coffee. I said something about other diners not charging for refills, and she said oh Ive been to those diners before. First of all Ive been to upscale restaurants and low-scale diners that dont charge for an extra two or three cups of drip coffee. By the way, just like Starbucks their drip coffee sucks.

I almost gave this place 4 stars because the food was so good. Honestly the service here is lacking. Reading others reviews and seeing the extremely negative response from the owner in itself made me think very negatively of this place. They really need to get their act together. So initially a good location, and lots of people. Only one person taking orders which made things go by slow. I will say the girl at the register was awesome! I did hear the barista tell someone We dont have whip cream which is weird first of all but the way she said it caused my wife to say she is extremely rude. We ordered the breakfast burrito and the quiche with hot chocolate and a vanilla latte. All of which were awesome! It took a long time to get and was a tad pricey but overall worth it. We were about to leave and asked someone for a box and she said she would get it and we waited and waited. Saw her being other peoples food and still no box. Finally had to ask someone else.Good service makes up for a lot of other negatives. Bad service makes the good seem so small. If the food was just mediocre then they would have gotten 1 star from me. I get the impression the owner doesnt care and has no humility to speak of. If you dont care about good service come here. If I ever come back it will be because of the quiche and hope I dont have a terrible service experience.

My favorite coffee shop - I’ve been coming here since 2015 before Oak Park became trendy. It’s always been cozy and welcoming to anyone who wants to come in. The coffee is delicious and always well-made. Their paninis and granola are my favorite, but the salads have too much dressing so ask for it on the side. They have couches, tables, bar tables and outdoor seating to enjoy fresh baked goods and/or a wine or beer.

The food was good, provided I was only there for breakfast. The coffee on the other hand was not special. The woman who was making my coffee seemed to not want to be there that particular day. At least that’s the impression I got. The barista took three tries to pull my friends espresso. That was a red flag to me as far as the quality of shots that they pull. I was there on Friday August 3rd.

Wow. I cannot believe the experience my friend and I had this morning at this place. As we walked in, a woman asked us if we could buy her a cup of coffee. We said yes, and she followed us in. As we were ordering from one woman at the counter, the manager (blonde with dreadlocks) looked straight at the woman we walked in with and said “we’ve told you before that your business isn’t welcome here.” Fine, it’s your business, ban whomever you want from the store for whatever reason a regular consumer doesn’t know. What rubbed me the wrong way was that when we let her know that we’d already offered to buy the woman coffee, she looked me dead in the eye and said “No don’t do that.”So at this point, I’ve already paid for the coffee and ordered it, and she’s telling me what to do with the coffee that is now mine. We also ordered French onion soup with the coffee, as well as a bagel. So while we’re waiting for the food, the same manager comes up and angrily/forcefully confronts us and says, extremely patronizingly, “I’m confused..? If the manager of a place tells you not to do something why would you do it anyway?” Again, as if she has some kind of authority to tell me what to do with the coffee I purchased. Fine! Ban the woman from the store if you don’t want her business! But she wasn’t bothering anyone, and we’d already bought the coffee. I told her all of this, and she responded by holding her hands up and walking away while we were mid-sentence.To top it off, after this encounter, the other woman came up and told us that they were out of soup for the day—at 8:45 AM. Yeah, I’m sure that was the case. I am so disgusted with everything about this place. The initial handling of the issue, how we were confronted, and how the manager seemed to lord her title over us as if she had any authority to tell us what we did with the drink after having paid for it.Only bright side was that the bagel was pretty good, so that’s what the one star can be for.

First visit, seems like a cool neighborhood spot. However, although the biscuits & gravy were good & the eggs were fine, the bacon was burned way beyond recognition & the creamer left chunks in my coffee. For the price, this is a serious problem. At half the price, which would have still been profitable for the establishment, it would only be disappointing. Lastly, whats up with splitting biscuits & then placing them inside down with gravy on the wrong side? This seems to be a California thing & I do not appreciate it. End of rant.

I used to love this place. Yes, they still have really great coffee and good kitchen. Unfortunately with the mass gentrification of Oak Park, this place has been overrun with hipsters and yuppies looking for a coffee fix. It gets crowded with moms in their yoga pants letting toddlers run amok, local electeds trying to appear down with the people, and people who are not vested in the neighborhood and just looking for yet another spot to get another interchangeable coffee experience. If you can avoid the peak times and go either before 9 AM or after 6 PM, Old Soul returns to its original charm and you can enjoy a good cup of coffee without the obnoxious hipster invasion.

The staff here is super nice and truly care about the customers. I always feel welcomed and safe here. The food is amazing but pretty expensive. I am by no means a coffee expert. With that being said, I have been making my own espresso-based drinks and of course buying espresso-based drinks for 10 years or so. Of the many different places Ive purchased mochas/lattes/etc, this place consistently creates the worst tasting drinks. I love that the baristas try their hardest and even do latte art. I dont think its their fault the drinks taste terrible. Its likely the espresso machine/beans/milk/flavoring they are using. The espresso typically tastes burnt and the flavoring is subtle but nasty. If you like sweet/very rich mocha/lattes- dont bother. I prefer a more subtle chocolate flavor closer to the bitter espresso side but this place cant really do that well either. Also- their small size comes with 2 shots of espresso across the board for all drinks and their large still only comes with 2 shots. If you think youre getting more caffeine for your money, youd be wrong. It might be okay if they had a large menu but it is incredibly limited. I think literally any other coffee shop in the area is preferable if you want good coffee. If you like spending money on sub-par espresso, this is the place for you.

The new restaurant, also known as Fixins, owned by former NBA star Kevin Johnson, had every seat occupied with a diverse clientele enjoying their meals. I tried the fried chicken but was not impressed by it. Ive had better tasting chicken from KFC. I later found out it was not prepared the way it is advertised in their menu. Evidently, some of the chefs do not follow the recipes and the customers meals may not be the same depending on which evening they choose to attend. Overall, my meal was lackluster but my cocktail was interesting. It was made with a fresh Lavender sprig and Vodka. The staff all were very nice and our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Kevin was working that night and made time for a picture with us. The restaurant has an upscale vibe with modern art by a local artist on its walls all depicting scenes of a southern kitchen and its cook. There appeared to be a courtyard that will be used for outdoor dining in the future, as it was not open for the public the evening we attended. There was four in my group and the total cost came to about $70. Despite the meal being unimpressive, I would give the restaurant another chance on my next visit to Sacramento because the night we went, Fixins had not had its grand opening yet and if they plan to stay in business, they will make sure the chefs get on the same page with recipes.
