This is a fun course. I played for the first time in about 2-5 years and shot around 10-15 over par. The course itself is slightly abused by patrons and would assume that the groundskeepers are equally frustrated with most of the visitors lack of respect for the course. The greens are fairly fast some are slow and I think only one was truly bumpy and out of shape ( maybe hole 6-10 range ) cant remember the hole to be honest and that is a guess. The fairways are in fantastic shape the stripes are nice to see and the rough is well maintained. Beware if you are a ball loyal player out of bounds is FULL OF POISON IVY ( leaves of three stay away from me ) I had a fun time took us about 5 hours to play 18 holes taking our time and enjoying good company. The food isnt anything special its a few different lunch meat sandwich selections and hotdogs. But it did the trick in between lunch and dinner for a later tee time.

The course is in rough shape. Greens have crab grass all over them and mowing is not consistent.I used to defend the course to others when I would talk about playing there. I guess they were right in the long run. Its a shame as it used to be a pleasant round of golf.Oh well, I imagine there must have been some staff changes that really fouled things up.

Dont typically leave reviews but the course was in surprisingly good shape for this time of year, mid-February and I felt like I owed it to the course. The views were the best of all the courses Ive played in the Roanoke area. I think I payed around $25 and would expect to normally pay $45-65 for a similar course. For the value, I will definitely be back.Im the type of person where if the greens are in decent shape, I dont really care about the rest of the course. I was pleased with the greens and the rest of the course was very acceptable.It was very windy and pretty chilly out so the course was empty. I was able to play 18 holes in 2.5 hrs.I also found myself in 3 different traps. Nice course. Challenging and very scenic, but the cart paths are very rough and need to be fixed.

Beautiful views of Roanoke and surrounding mountains. Overall course was in decent condition for being in November.

Course is in horrible shape. Fairways are as tall as my yard. Rough looks like a field. Not worth the money at 31.00 for 9.

Decent open course. Long tough back 9! Up hill. Beautiful mountains!!! A 248 yard par 3 from whites!!! Yesss. Nice relaxing pace. Some elevations too. Cart path is eh... Friendly staff!

Lost my wallet left it in cart overnight... called in the morning.. the guy went through great lengths to find it tracking down the cart people were using and recovering it then refused a tip/reward after I got it back... good people.. good course too.

$40 on the weekend. Nice new carts, but very bumpy paths and the course itself was mediocre in terms of maintenance. Id look elsewhere until they lower their prices to match the overall quality. At least, I will.

Really enjoy the clubhouse experience. Management makes you feel wanted and is always excited to see new players coming to try out the facility. Fairly priced cart rentals and just an over all good time. Highly recommended, six stars would do the place justice. Thanks Mr. Miles for great service!

Great public golf course!

Great course and very friendly and helpful staff. A little challenging with all the out of bounds areas but very fun. The play was fairly quick at only 3 1/2 hrs but no one was pushing us and no one in front of us. As far as condition of the course it was almost perfect a few rough tee boxes maybe 3. I will visit this course again.

Ole Monterey golf course is one of the finest in the Roanoke Valley. If you have not played there you should.

Very nice course, great pro shop personnel, rough is a tad long for the average player, and with some blind shots, finding the ball in the rough added time to the round. Greens are in great shape.

An old course thats been well kept, and challenging. For the average golfer.I ly one water hole, but. Has some long uphill holes that require a long drive and fairway wood from back tees...players card worth the money for the green fee disciunt, tourneys and club house purchases if u play there regularly. Get ur fee back after 12 rounds, then u saving $9 a round.

Was not very impressed with this course. The course was in ok shape but the worst part was how rude some of the staff were. We were playing with two people who had never played golf before so things were slow however we were letting people play through. Apparently that was not good enough and on a couple occasions we were flat out told to keep up or get off the course in a round about way. We even got comments from some of the apparent regular players there that must think they own the course just because they play there several times a week. It was the most unpleasant round of golf I have ever played. Definitely will not be returning or recommending.

The greens and fairways are terrific so far this year. They are great to play on and beautiful.

Mostly decent holes, but several are in need of serious repair. Entire cart path needs to be paved. Really displeased with the staff, however. Two people in my party were new to large courses and they treated them with little respect and were very condescending. Rain stopped us at the 11th hole and the staff refused to give us a raincheck. I understand why, but the worker in question was highly offended I even asked. Very rude. Overall, I would take my business elsewhere.

The course was AWESOME, BEAUTIFUL DAY, but me on the other hand is ANOTHER STORY!!!

Not very difficult at all but not the best layout. Little pricey for the quality and its surorisurpri always slammed. Very average.

Dont waste your time!!!! Go to Blue Hills instead! The course is decent, but the staff is not pleasant to deal with. Further, the rates at the this course are not relative to the condition. They charge a separate cart fee, in addition to the green fees. Honestly, with all the public courses around, why waste your time overpaying and dealing with bad employees.

Sorry but this was the worst place Ive played in the area nothing like somebody weed whacking while your putting and a tractor literally following you as you try an make your way down a par 4 not a big deal if it was just one hole but it was 9 holes of bs do your maintenance when players arent playing
