I moved here a few years ago & knew before moving that I needed a new store for hockey related things as multiple people in my family play hockey. I normally only go to the cary location that one is my favorite however Ive visited 2 other locations & had positive experiences there as well. The very first time I walked into this store Ive been pleased with the store itself, the employees, & their products. I only buy from this store unless they dont carry something then I buy online. The employees never try to sell you the most expensive items they carry. They simply ask you questions about your needs and suggest items that are tailored to your situation. The only thing Ive experienced that I didnt like was a few times after getting skates sharpened they lost there edge faster than usual. That has never stopped me from coming back though. I would highly recommend this store to anyone!

Ive been coming to 5 Hole for years and love how honest and direct they are. Most recently I picked up a pair of hockey skates from an online competitor in a clearance sale that was too good to pass up. I saved $400 on my purchase and when I brought them in to Five Hole sports to have them baked, I learned why they had been on clearance. They hate feet! They give everybody unbelievable blisters. After two bloody games I brought them back to five hole sports to see what they can do. Even though they hadnt sold me the skates, they worked on them for free! If I had bought them from five whole sports, I wouldve been able to easily exchange them for another pair. The online retailer did not allow any returns or exchanges. Lesson learned. Never buy skates online again.

Ive dealt with Five Hole for 5 years with two kids in youth hockey. I recently had to purchase a custom set of Goalie pads for my older son as the stock sizes just didnt work. Mike and Nick were awesome. Mike took the time to take the measurements and provided recommendations to get the proper fit and curve of the pad that my son wanted. The pads just game in and the fit is exactly what we were looking for. Once again.....thanks for the help and your honest opinions.

Had to get our equipment here to play youth hockey in Raleigh. You join a team and they require you buy this bundle of gear and 5 hole has a price discount if you buy the bundle. JP was a very big help in getting us set up the first time here in Wake Forest. The store was well stocked and the service was excellent. I recommend this store if you need something in a hurry and they try very hard to match prices with most of the online stores. Great place.

Staff is always polite. Skate sharpening is excellent. I dont sharpen as often as others do I cant speak to consistency, but the times I do go its always been spot on. Good selection of gear for everyone but goalies, however I get that we are a special breed and trying to support us is nearly impossible. If they had a wider selection they would get a 5, but Im not sure they have the space. Great for buying skates. They take their time to help fit you which is critical.

Ive had nothing but good experiences here. Tim knows equipment inside and out, makes suggestions that take your level of play and budget into consideration, and its generally a pleasure to speak with. He has some great stories and takes plenty of time to make sure his customers are going to be happy with their purchases. The younger guys that work there are very helpful and friendly as well!

This is my Go To place for hockey equipment. Buying online is all well and good, but there is something to be said for being able to try on your gear. Their selection is very good, and they are very knowledgeable about their products. I would highly recommend this place to any hockey player.

Good place to get hockey equipment, they have roller or ice hockey equipment. Not the biggest selection of skates but they can always order something for you. Not the best prices especially compared to online but nothing really compares to online. Its a great place when you need something in your hand that day.

Stopped into Five Hole Sports on my way back from the beach. Broke my old hockey skates playing mens league back in March. Have always just bought straight from the internet, but decided I wanted to invest a little bit more this time. The entire experience was top notch. Had a professional fitting done by Bobby and learned Ive been wearing skates about two sizes too big. He showed me a lot of options from their huge inventory and we were able to find a pair of skates that worked great for me. Baked, sharpened, and ready to hit the ice. Cant recommend this place enough.

Five Hole has been the go to place for my son and I for a long time. But, after today I will never go here again. My son and I were treated like we didnt even exist. It is understandable when a place is busy to have to wait for a while for assistance, more so when sizing skates. I came in with the expectation to spend $300-$400 on a pair of skates but after the sales rep got on the phone to ask another store if they were available we no longer existed. Sat there for 25 minutes before I called it and just left and will buy them online for a likely lower price. All this said, my intent was to give this place business because of the small world of hockey. I expect more.

I like to shop here, manageable prices and pretty good service. Its not hard when their is zero competition for them. :-PHowever, there has been 2 separate occasions that I tried going there to pick something up and they were closed. I get their hours may fluctuate during different seasons, but Id hope theyd update the main sites like Google and their OWN. Its not like today (Sunday) I went horribly close to their suggested closing time (8pm).. it was maybe 7:15pm at the latest. I could understand if it was maybe 7:50pm and they shut down a few minutes early, but it was nearly an hour.

Outstanding customer service! Growing up in the south I have played a lot of street hockey but am very new to the ice hockey equipment. They walked me to the correct area, and remained with me while answering all of my questions. They took the time to teach me the differences between levels of equipment, stayed within the budget I came in with, and never tried to upsell me. I stated my budget and level of play and they made sure I walked out with equipment that suited my needs without lacking protection. Will definitely return to shop here in the future.

Had one of the most satisfying purchase experiences that I can remember in this area. Andrew and Jerry are first class when it comes to listening to their customers and aiding in some direction whether it be equipment, technique, or just hockey talk.Selection is unparalleled when compared to other hockey shops in the area. Prices are reasonable, especially if you are fortunate enough to stop by on one of their regular sales events. All in all, a great place to shop and talk hockey. My buddies and I decided to pick up street hockey after a 15-20 year hiatus (were all near 30). We had done a bit of research on what sticks are most durable for street/asphalt, but instead of just ordering something online, we figured wed try Five Hole. After walking in, we immediately were made to feel out of place. We said we heard ABS sticks were the most durable for street hockey and if they had any recommendations, their reply: all our sticks are over there. 3 or 4 guys behind the counter just stared at us, not once asking if we needed any help. Pretty off-putting, particularly to my friend that bought his (ice) skates there, multiple pieces of equip, and 5+ sticks.I was thinking maybe it was just an off day for them, until a recent experience. I had my fiancee stop in to pick up a new stick for my buddy. There were two sher-woods that we each had that were pretty solid, but she couldnt find them. No one helped her, and after asking where they might be, she was told we dont sell street hockey sticks, and if those sticks arent there, we must be sold out. I guess if youre not under the age of 10 or in their beer league, youre not welcome. No more money will be heading their way.

Expensive and UnprofessionalI swore off Five Hole years ago after multiple bad experiences. I came back to buy new skates assuming things have changed. I was wrong. There is a major difference between the Google reviews here and the Yelp reviews.Buying experience: I asked for skates in a certain size. They claimed (as they did years ago) that they only had a couple of skates in my size. Hard to believe with a standard size, but ok. Tried them on and they fit ok. I asked for other brands other than the Bauer and they said only have $60 in your size. This entire time Im trying on skates, the other employee with the red hair was interrupting the employee trying to fit me and talk to me. Every time a customer came in and left, the they both would bash on the customer after they left. Right in front of me.After I had my skates and ready to be sharpened, a lady came in the store and was upset at a previous sharpening she received. After she had left, the two employees started to essentially bash her. Red-head kid said its just all in her head. Shes going to blow out her knees and blame it on us. Should have just told her no and not sharpened it again. Followed by people dont know what they want. They ask for a v and I just give them standard. Theyll never know. Seriously? Im standing right there at the counter. After I left, I had a hard time finding the skate they were selling me online. I did some additional research showing its an exclusive skate to an outlet sports retailing online. That skate was $130 cheaper online. I understand online is cheaper, and Im willing to pay some extra to shop local. But $130 and a 2017 model. Are you kidding me?I wish this story was a one-time thing. Its not. Read Yelp reviews. Ask local rec-league hockey players. They will tell you the same thing. Five Hole continues to push their clearance and old models of skates, saying they dont have anything else, to get the original pricing on old models to maximize their profits, without telling you. If it was just the pricing, that would be one thing. Its also the employees there continuing to bash customers, be disrespectful, and let you know 40 times that they know Eric Cole. Never again.EDIT: After this review, the manager did call me and apologize. He invited me back over and made things right by offering back the difference of the cost I paid for the skate and the clearance price of it. It was a good gesture for sure and I really appreciated it. They were in the middle of a transition to a CCM branded store -- remains to be seen if the experience will change but Im hopeful. To be clear, the kids working were making standard immature comments that I typically shrug off. It was the amount, consistency, and in front of me that put me over the edge with it all.

Ive spent so much here over the years that I am on a first name basis with the staff. You have hockey equipment needs theyll hook you up. Internet price matching and employees who know and play the game. You never know who you will run into there. Ron Hainsey and I once debated the merits of one stick over another. He won the debate because he has a Stanley Cup ring backing up his argument and I lost because.....its Ron Hainsey. Very funny guy who is extremely articulate. But my point is, if active NHL pros are stopping in to grab gear for their kids in the off season maybe you should to.

After looking into the used route (Craigslist, stores, ebay) I found 5-hole Sports to be the best option by far for outfitting my son with inline hockey gear (new). The staff helped ensure each piece of equipment fit but, with adequate room to grow. The prices were competitive with online hockey retailers and my son enjoyed going through the store and trying on each item. I also had the satisfaction of knowing that each item fit him well, something I cannot guarantee when ordering online. I would definitely return here again and would recommend this shop for all levels of hockey needs.
