This is my preferred Portland grocery store. I just enjoy every visit! The staff is friendly and there are so many yummy finds.

I recently found this place. They have quality products, great and very helpful stuff. It is easy to navigate and find all you need for daily grocery shopping. Homemade sandwiches and fresh brew coffee. I highly recommended.

Not sure what the hype is it why its so pricey. The produce I got wasnt that fresh. The Deli part of the house looks like it has some chops.

I absolutely LOVE this store! Its like a convenience store, except it has REAL food. Fresh organic produce, a full service meat counter with grass fed beef, gourmet coffee, locally brewed beer, organic deli with meals to go. I dont mind at all paying a little bit more here because I know Im supporting an ethical business that pays a living wage to their employees, and provides health care, even for their part time employees. Everyone here is always so happy and friendly!

I am a penny pinching foody and this is my favorite market in Portland. Everything you need is there along with the nicest folks in town working there. Prepared foods are always fresh and tasty. The meat counter is worth the trip alone. They have managed to continue to sell high end bakery items during the pandemic as well. Love it!

Staff are very nice and helpful. We go there often. It is relatively expensive, but is convenient and serves its purpose. They won’t have all grocery items. More like Organic type convenience store. Good Wine/beer/cider selection.

This is an amazing store with super friendly staff! Their freshly made deli sandwiches are worth the trip alone. From their wonderfully crafted coffee drinks to their delicious hot bar to high quality groceries - this place is just so great! One of my favorite spots to shop and eat. Love Green Zebra Grocery!

I love stopping at Green Zebra right near my house when I have some time to kill. I particularly love their selection of local products and other hard to find brands / specialties. For all the time I spend there, though, its mostly for entertainment and pursuing as the prices (even most of the sale items) are definitely out of my budget.

I still kick myself for not using the free $10 off anything coupon that Green Zebra circulated throughout the local community when it opened its doors. After that I was just intimidated to go in.... what is it? A Whole Foods or Natures thats even more independent? I wasnt sure until one day I finally wandered in. My wife has recently become a vegetarian and I was running out of unique things that I could partially enjoy with my lamb chops and my wife would eat. Stumbling around the deli Ruby came up to me and asked if she could help. I said, How do I shop here? She then proceeded to give me a tour of the entire establishment pointing out the different vegetarian items in the deli case but not forgetting Green Zebras awesome beef strips for salads and sandwiches. Ruby also showed me the best yogurts to eat and where to fill my growler full of beer or kambucha. On all of my visits 80% of the time I find the brew that I am looking for that I like to take home. If you join the Zebra Club you will get $5 off of your first $25 purchase - which is easy to do. I think that my wife became a vegetarian because our diet was based on each weeks grocery circulars - not foods that are healthy. So I have made room in my budget for Green Zebra and similar healthy places. Getting to see friendly people like Ruby who are actually happy to be working at a friendly place makes each trip a friendly experience.

My friends who live near the Lombard store brought a selection of the Green Zebra sausages to grill last week. I was blown away.Hands-down the best sausages I have ever had.Since they brought for different types we put them on the grill and lined up the packages accordingly so we would not lose track of which ones werewhich. I chose a favorite that was supreme to any I have ever had before It turns out it was the bratwurst. I dont even like bratwurst! Well I didnt.If you want the best bratwurst you have ever had you need to go to the Green Zebra to get it.But honestly there was not a sausage I did not like.Far superior to the season store near my house.

I went here to grab some vegan snacks for myself and my family to keep us fed and whatnot while I was getting my hair done down the road. I live in Vancouver so it was nice being able to get stuff for us so close to the salon. The prices seemed in line with what I would expect, not too expensive. I was pleasantly surprised at the wide selection of vegan friendly items, I was expecting it to be small. The store itself is cute but in an edgy way, seems very clean and organized. I didnt have a whole lot of interaction with the staff as my visit was pretty quick, but everyone seemed friendly.

To start things off, I do have a dog in the fight my company delivers a product to their stores, but thats not the point of this. My review is based on the knowledge and friendliness of the staff. Every person in there has some form of expertise and are willing to help you out with questions that you dont even know your about to ask. And they have the friendliness to want to answer your questions, not just point you in the direction. So take my bias 2 cents for what its worth but I highly suggest trying out here cook food in there.

Loved the items they stock, very friendly staff. We bought fish from the seafood counter and it was incredibly fresh. Hot bar looked and smelled great. It is very small so some items I was hoping to find werent carried and it was difficult to get around the store with just a few other shoppers in the store, but that wouldnt deter me from visiting. Others might find that a challenge.

I used to love shopping at Green Zebra. That all changed this week. One of the stores loyal employees was wrongly arrested and jailed for several days because child support garnished from the employees check by the store was not paid to the State. Management admitted not returning officials calls concerning the missing payments. How disappointing! As a supporter of Green Zebras flagship NoPo store from opening day to the present I am appalled. My reasons for supporting the Zebra largely centered on the benefit of new jobs for the men and women of our community - jobs which I believed to be offered in a spirit of fairness, of trying to do the right thing. Tell me, please, what is the right thing to do in this situation? It certainly isnt to continue to leave the child support unpaid. Mistakes happen. Because of Green Zebras mistake in this instance, however, a hardworking parent now has a criminal record that will complicate future housing applications, job searches, etc. If you truly care for your employees, who are a part of our community, please, Green Zebra, do your part to redress this injustice without further delay! Until you do I will take my business elsewhere. Green Zebra Grocery exceeded my expectations. All the fruit and vegetables were super fresh and tasty. The bread was amazing! I will definitely use again especially since the quality of the items were excellent!

I went in today to get a sandwich from the deli; and it was very disappointing. I saw the man behind the counter wipe his nose at least 4 times while making my sandwich, without wearing gloves. He was an older man with an Spanish accent, so I can understand if it happens once accidentally, but 4 times is just ridiculous. I was too disgusted to eat. I don’t recommend coming here unless you want to get sick.

Never have I been impressed with a grocery store until coming here. Free samples, the friendliest and REALEST staff Ive ever met, and smiling faces everywhere. The selection is healthy and broad. Great beer selection too.

I have been working with Green Zebra Grocery as a vendor for the past several months. We run their custom ATM. It has been nothing but a pleasure to work with the manager Evelyn and the staff here are great. I actually shop here a lot and they are amazing. The food is delicious and the business we get with their company is great. I highly recommend this business!

So much love for this place and for everyone who works there. We were there at the beginning, and now we can’t imagine this neighborhood without Green Zebra! Love you guys.

The variety of products is really interesting and Ill be checking it out more to see if theres anything I havent seen before. Everyone seemed really nice, the deli worker was especially friendly and going out of their way to help people. But when they got to me their attitude changed to almost annoyed that I was just looking at the sandwich menu not filling it out, called me sandwich guy despite my name written on the sheet, and seemed annoyed I didnt ask for much on it (they did put extra portions though). I know how I look, I get it and I probably should be used to it by now but it still sucks to be treated like that. I just try to be extra polite in return but usually end up afraid of saying anything and making it worse.

OK... the only reason I would ever go back into this store again is if I needed a good laugh... because there prices are just comical. The owner MUST have a terrible coke problem ... either that or they just never went to business school.I mean really the prices are SO outrageous .. for example : a pudding the size of a snack pack.. they go for 2 for $1.00 at the store.. they have there own version .. some vanilla pudding (its alright.. i guess)6.99$ for a 2 oz pudding ...!!!! and when I got to the cashier and she said $6.99 .. I said no thanks .. she had this speech that was obviously said before its raw and all natural . Oh , ok .. would you like a blank check then.. or maybe blood .. oh hey , heres my first born. Would that pay for a taste?No thanks. They will be out of business in 6 months. Mark my words.

I love it! Very similar to New Seasons yet closer to my place of work. Trendy little store perfect for my lunch break, dont have to stop by the bank because they have their own cool zebra ATM. Ive never seen anything like it!

I like that there is a natural / specialty grocer closer to North Portland neighborhoods. There is as much staff as youd see at New Seasons or if Whole Foods were this size.I appreciate the full meat counter and that employees seem nice. Ive been here twice since opening but wont be making a special trip since I dont live nearby.Prices seemed better this time than the first, especially Sunshine Dairy products. I did treat myself to a $4.99 bag of corn chips because they were from a local taqueria.

So many lovely items in this store. I love that they list all of the ingredients in every item in the deli, meet and meal counters is listed and available for print-out. Also, dont miss the extensive beer, wine, and cider collection.

I tried signing up for their rewards program 3 times in the store - it never went through. Then I tried online - it didnt work. The store is pretty good - not as much produce as the 100 other stores within a mile of it nor as many options for nuts/seeds, but homemade kombucha is a plus. Im frustrated that I cant sign up for the rewards program and there seems to be no solution.

Very cute, smaller grocery store. Specializes in organic, green, and local foods, and its prices arent going to be Walmart cheap, but I didnt feel like it was overpriced, either. The deli was stocked with friendly workers and had really great food. Pretty great selection and overall I really enjoyed this grocery store!

This is a great place if you are in the Kenton area. The price us what you would expect for a natural grocer with prices comparable to other natural grocers. The staff is super friendly and will go out of their way to help you.

I love this place! The beer and cider selection is amazing. The deli, cheese, and meat counters are great. They pack a lot into a small space.

I go here all the time, its close my house and has great food. Its more expensive then a typical grocery store (though honestly Safeway is probably more expensive) but they sell conscious foods. The meat is great quality (I would go anywhere else), and they have great organic cereals and produce. They are small so its not an everything store, but we get all our meat and produce there and a few other things. Their kombucha and beer selection is ever changing and great quality. I have no complaints, even with being expensive Im willing to pay more to not have chemicals added and be eating -real- food.

Convenient little grocer near home, but would really like to see more vegan products. Especially showcasing local vegan companies like Tofurky. I was disappointed that they dont carry the vegan egg but they DO carry a plethora of stolen eggs from sad chickens.

Nice local grocery with an focus on healthy and organic food. Smaller store with a surprisingly large selection of goods. I cant always find everything on my list, but more often than I thought I would.

Its been over a year since Green Zebra opened in our neighborhood and we are thankful to be able to enjoy their flagship store! Always friendly staff, great selection of quality meats, produce and grab and go deli items for such a small footprint, and they actively source from local vendors. And their pastry counter is excellent!Is it my primary grocery store? No, because they do run at about the same pricing level or slightly higher than New Seasons, however when you need to grab salad fixings on your way home, a quick lunch mid-week or even breakfast on Sunday theyre a much faster stop than Freddies or New Seasons.And to the dude that gave one star because they carry over priced pudding, that local brand is stupid expensive at New Seasons as well. GZ also carries Cozy Shack at a reasonable price.If youre a frequent shopper their rewards program is worthwhile and they frequently run specials on meat, coffee and wine that are actually bargains. Hoping they stick around for a long time!

Good for basic groceries, but the prepared food has gone way downhill. The hot bar is often empty at 6:30, and much of the deli food is borderline inedible.

Not really the kind of place for me. Its for people that dont care about the price of food and will pursue adjectives such as non and free with abandon. The beer selection is stunning and the staff really knows a lot about their products.

I love this place! I have a restrictive diet and so everything Im allowed to eat is here!!! and its affordable!!! no whole foods prices here and all the food is good for you! amazing local beer selection also if youre into that sort of thing.

This is a small natural grocery/corner store. They manage to pack a lot of products in there including a deli and salad bar. Super great local beer and cider selection and kombucha on tap.

The lady working today (9/25/2018 at 630p) was very rude. I was waiting in line with two people ahead of me (in the meantime another line was forming down the aisle to the left), once the two in front of me were helped she said the line is over there I dont know whos next. I responded by saying I was here before they were but she didnt care, so I went to the back of the other line down the aisle and waited. Not the end of the world, yes I was in a hurry (we all are) but I went with it. Her attitude towards me and the others waiting has left a sour taste in my mouth. It is honestly a shame, as I live so close, but I will drive further for better service. This was my first and last experience at this location.

The thing we love most about GZ is that they REALY support local vendors... and the thing we love most about the Kenton store is all the fun events they throw! Hosting Portland Kombucha Day, B-Day parties for themselves, and festive holiday celebrations.

They stock great meats, a small selection of produce, and other high quality foods, but you will probably end up paying even more than at New Seasons unless you get one of their frequent coupons. They have a good selection of beer and cider and sell coffee and baked treats as well.

I ordered a Rueben this time with a substitute of vegan cheese, circled the add bacon ($1), and add banana peppers...I got a Rueben with Swiss and nothing else.Thanks for my actual money back this time and I wont be back!

Bedrock grocery store for the Kenton neighborhood. Friendly staff, kombucha on tap which you serve yourself tasters of, great coffee bar, when hot food bar serves Indian it is excellent (actually a bit spicy! you wont find that at No Seasons). I hope Green Zebra (we call it Zeebs in our household) continues to stay away from the New Seasons model of baked chicken and mac and cheese everyday - BOOOOOO RING!Zeebs has a great salad bar at a reasonable price for the quality. The wine/beer/cider/mead selection is the best-curated in town IMO and has bottles you wont find anywhere else and has fresh beer on tap (tasters available upon request anytime!). Veggies are good but not so economical. Meat department has some excellent items but needs some loss leaders (eg reasonably priced ground beef and pork) to keep it economically accessible - right now it is not.They carry Hot Dollys one of the best premade fresh salsas in PDX and have a nice bakery cold case with a wide selection from local providers.Suggestions for improvement: please introduce more hot breakfast choices which contain meat but not dairy. The breakfast formula is very repetitive. Very.

The staff people can be laxed and not very professional. As I was getting coffee the staff person just grabbed what she needed not really noticing she was making the coffee area more disarrayed. If the staff get any worse I wont be coming back. This is at the Lombard store. Thank you.

Green Zebra is like a mini New Seasons. Items are a little pricey, but good quality. All the meat at the deli is consciously raised, all the seafood is certified sustainable, and they give a 7% discount to anyone using EBT. Bonus: They have a super-shmancy kambucha growler refill option, AND a fresh juice bar.
