Cute location, not as big as other ones I’ve been to, but the selection is definitely bigger and has more sections than most other locations Ive been to

In the annals of time the Kinokuniya Book Store will go down as the single greatest Japanese book store run out of a movie theater building staffed by Americans learning japanese. the elegant shade of almond center hazel paint that clings to every wall practically shouts that these helpful staff members really keep their business walls clean. I would recommend as a must visit for any seasoned swimmer/cyclist looking for gifts for retired or working children and parents.

BUYER BEWARE: SHOP AT YOUR OWN RISK. This store has a crazy policy NOTHING IN THE STORE CAN BE RETURNED except BOOKS AND UNOPENED COMICS!!!! they have some lame rationale of “Covid” but no real reason why a book is OK to return (even if you’ve read it, fingered through it, coughed on it, etc) but no models, characters, posters, stationary, etc. can be returned for any reason. This is clearly not a normal policy compared to any US retailer. Oh, and this info is not shared until you are given a receipt, where it is printed. But of course at that point you can’t return the item. HATE TO SAY THIS, BUT WE SHOULD ALL AVOID THE STORE UNTIL THEY UPDATE THIS RIDICULOUS POLICY.

My first but not my last time in there. Great place to grab manga if you are having a hard time finding anything at Barnes and Nobles. Figure selection wasn’t big and were priced reasonably, but still managed to find the right one. Everyone was friendly. Best experience and will for sure be back!!!! :)

Really nice selection of manga in both Japanese and English. The pen and notebook selection is better than great! I plan to come back later this week and enjoy it some more. There are helpful notes on which books have a show planned or currently airing. There are so many goods to choose from that I feel spoiled for choice…

This is a really cool place, and they randomly had an appearance by awesome comic book writers Kelly Sue Deconnick and Brian k Vaughn (who live in Portland), it was really cool to meet them. The shop has all kinds of cute Japanese stuff and a huge wall of journals and diaries and pens and markers etc. Its easy to spend two hours in here just looking at all the neat stuff!

This location is awesome. It used to be an old theater and it was vacant for many years. Its right next to the Director Park, a very nice place to chill when the weather is nice. This store has all sort of cool Japanese stuff. We got several Christmas gifts from here. There are Bandai models, Totoro, stationaries, books, and all sort of knick knacks. Check them out if youre in the area. This is a great place to shop for souvenirs.

Its a very cool place probably worth five stars but I feel like the pricing was a little high I understand that that might be inherent to the type of shop that it is but still it is one thing keeping me from giving you the perfect score. They have a solid variety of beginner manga solid variety of figurines upstairs they have some really fun mystery boxes downstairs as well as an amazing pin selection which can be easily overlooked by accident. They have some good models for like Gundam and stuff. Totally worth checking out of your interested in the anime manga or Japanese media in general

The staff here, do not talk or help..Either they are new and learning about the stuff! but the store inside UWajimaya in Beaverton is soo much better in terms or staff, help and actually the stock they have..The Portland store is very mainstream and kind of overwhelming where you cant find the rare stuff. I just prefer the store in Beaverton I guess. Having said that this is a much bigger store and well organized and have a huge stock of manga which is upstairs.

This place is dangerous! Warning: you will spend lots of money on severely cool Japanese pop culture items as well as amazing stationary and books if you visit. Id go nuts if I worked here, theres just too much cool stuff. Prices are not low, probably because importing isnt cheap, but if you decide to be a regular they do offer a club membership ($25/year, I believe) that gets you discounts, club-only offers, possibly other goodies, all of which would make this place easier in the wallet. Ill definitely be back.
