Such a cute diner! The food was VERY tasty. I tried the catfish (my first time ever trying catfish) and it was incredible! β A crunchy outside and soft melty inside. In addition, the prices were cheap for the amount of food you got! I would definitely come here again. A night out with friends to remember ππΌ
This looks like such a cool little diner that we decided to stop and check it out.The interior is vintage and clean, our server was great. The food was absolutely terrible. We ordered the appetizer sampler so that we could try the tenderloin, burger and the porky fries. Our food came out on a plate that had a chip the size of a silver dollar. The tenderloin was so greasy and salty it was impossible to eat.The burger was topped with huge chucks of fat that were supposed to be bacon (see pic it was disgusting). The buns on all of the sliders were rock hard as if they had been sitting out since yesterday. The porky fries were cold.My 4 year old had the kids burger sliders and fries and didnβt touch any of it.The manager did adjust the bill, which was nice of her but the food that we were served should not have left the kitchen.I had high hopes and was so disappointed. We left hungry. You can see in the pictures what was left. Super disappointed.
Couldnβt think of a better place to take my cousin whoβs visiting Indy all the way from Lima, Peru. Thank you Emma for your service, recommended us a great meal and service was quick and always with a smile. My cousin loved the meal. She loved the atmosphere. We enjoyed those beignets β€οΈπ Thanks!
Awesome pork tenderloin sandwich and handmade sodas. Our waitress was super attentive and delightfully polite. The carrot cake and sugar cream pie were also delicious.
Over all it was pretty good. Only draw back. The grits were good but real dry. Need to be creamier.
Cute little diner! Typical diner food. I had wedge salad with chicken salad sandwich. It said it was a half sandwich but it came on a croissant and was substantial. I wish I had room for dessert as some of them looked and sounded good.
We arrived around 215pm very excited to see what this adorable dinner had to offer. It was a huge bonus when we called they said their patio was dog friendly. We brought our 1 yr dachshund. I went in and the host stand was vacant. 4 servers passed me before one finally asked if I had been helped, I replied not yet. I told her two for the patio please. She handed me two menus and started to walk away the opposite direction of the patio. I asked are we okay to just pick our seat? She then took me to the patio and pointed to table without an umbrella. I asked if we could have one of three that were dirty but had an umbrella instead. She said it might be a few minutes until she can clean it and I said that was okay we would like the shade. After about 25 minutes the same lady came out and cleaned about half of one of the tables. Another lady came out a few minutes later and picked up cups but didnβt wipe the table and said here ya go. Then she walked off.The lady froEarlier walks back out after about 5 minutes and says her manager said they need to move our table to the other side of the patio due to the board of health! Apparently only half of their 8 table patio is dog friendly. Mind you at this point itβs been about 40-45 minutes since we arrived. At this point I was very frustrated felt as if they didnβt even want us there. I let them know there was no need to move the table we were just going to leave. Very disappointed as we had intended to have breakfast food and any other place open with a dog friendly patio was no longer serving breakfast.I am not upset about their patio being only half dog friendly Iβm more disappointed at the service. The manager was more worried about moving us once we got seated then getting us seated in first place. I really wanted to like this dinner π
Good food, fun atmosphere, good service. A little slow to get food, but we had a big group. The stuffed French toast was good, but there wasnt as much food as was on everyone elses plates, so I finished way before everyone else
Our waitress, Summer was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The breaded tenderloin and house made potato salad had great flavor. The patty melt and tater tots were cooked just right. The outside waitress was very busy. The rest of the waitresses and hostess, not impressed! When you hear, No, Im not taking that table, then why are you working? That IS your job.
Real 1950 diner. It was moved from its original location to where it sits now. Everything is original including the deep fryers in the kitchen. They serve cinnamon rolls almost as big as your head that they make right there and display under glass domes on the counter. They even make their own soda pop, and it is fabulous.
Good food. Good service. Great old fashion atmosphere.
Great food and the service was amazing! Cant wait to eat there again!
We were there on 3nov around 4pm, disappointing experience. Chicken piece which was grilled was extra dry, requests made were not followed and inlet arrived cold. We feel like the waitress was extremely distracted and nothing seemed to go well. The problem is that they are not used to handling a diverse customer base and customer service is not top priority at all. truly disoriented at the experience.
Stay away from the burnt french fries, and the tater tots, that could break a tooth. The fish tacos were also a bust. The did not put them in a taco shell, like they used to, they were laid in a stiff tortilla. No hot sauce. The ketchup was taken from another table, without being wiped off. After the waitress dropped it on the floor I ask her to please wipe it off. But she had no intention of doing so, as she set it right on the table after she dropped it. The salt shaker was also dirty with food on the outside of container. What a waste of money.
Good home cooking and great prices. The Kansas City biscuits and gravy with egg, bacon bits, cheese over hash browns is ON.POINT!!! Chicken tenders a great too. And dont forget about the sugar cream pie. THE.BEST.
Disappointing. Ive driven past this place for years and just decided to check it out. We were seated and after too long of a wait we got menus. We ordered a waffle, a grilled cheese, and pulled pork sandwich with fries. FORTY MINUTES later, after no check in from our waitress, the food arrived. Waffle was fine, pulled pork was average, and the grilled cheese was ok. Nothing worth waiting forty minutes for. I would have said something to management but never saw anyone besides the youthful wait staff. Definitely would not recommend. Even if the food was free I wouldnt want to wait that long.
Very expensive. I had the Tenderloin Manhattan, slaw, and soft drink for lunch. $20 including tip. Food quality and service is extremely good.
A DEFINITE MUST STOP FOR ANYONE IN THE PLAINFIELD AREA!! Excellent food & service in a clean, fun atmosphere. Cant beat the tenderloins smothered in terrific gravy with eggs cooked perfectly. A special nice touch is the real, dinner size napkins and very good, smooth coffee. Come hungry because the servings very generous!
A great place to eat delicious food. The BLT was excellent. They have inside or outside dining. I chose the outside since it was a lovely day. The diner is right beside a walking or biking trail.
Ive been coming to Oasis for years, and have enjoyed many tasty meals there. However, my lunch today was a disappointment. I ordered a Patty Melt. The meat was dry and tasteless. I asked for extra grilled onions and while I cant say what amount of onions is regular vs extra, what I received didnt seem generous. Also, the onions are diced small, which lessens their impact on overall flavor. I couldnt taste the dressing. The onion rings were a disaster, with WAY too much breading. Service took longer than usual; perhaps they were shorthanded in the kitchen. That wasnt a problem for us and doesnt factor in to my review. But not delivering the yumminess I expected was very much a problem. Our server was handling almost all of the outdoor tables and was very busy but was friendly and attentive. Im sad to say if this had been my first meal at Oasis, I would not return.
It was delicious. I had the tenderloin and it was the best. The service was excellent and the homemade desserts are decadent. I wished we lived close enough to go more often.
This restaurant was recommended by a client (and friend) who knows of my passion for great burgers. The Oasis Diner did not disappoint! This Patty Melt (a double) was juicy and delicious! The sauce and onions were perfect. Note the missing fries! I somehow resisted the temptation (fries, tots or sweet potato variants are available) and got peas and carrots instead (a rare moment of restraint). Parking is plentiful nearby, and this place is easy to get to. They make their own soda which is fantastic. Service was wonderful, and best of all, it is a legit diner; you can tell from the photos. Take it from me, I eat at a lot of diners, this is the real deal!
Loved the vibe of the diner! The pork tenderloin was a major let down, as the quality of the meat was poor compared to other restaurants in the region. I would try coming here again and eating something different.
Best pancakes Ive ever had at a restaurant! Friendly staff, great prices and very nice atmosphere.
First time there. Cod dinner was good. Grandson didnt get the scoop of ice cream that was supposed to be with the kids meal. Waiter was great and super busy.
This place was one of the places that we would travel the extra distance from Greenwood area because it was soooo good but this experience was completely different. We waited quite awhile for our waitress and our food, but not our seat. The tenderloin that my husband ordered was so small NOT what we had experienced in the past. The gravy was different too. The rest of the food was ok, the fries were really good though! I dont know, conflicted on if well be back or not. Not sure if it was worth the money this time.
The food was amazing. We had the Oasis burger and I am pleased to announce, it lived up to the name. It was full of flavor, the bun was fresh and meat was moist and full of flavor. I would travel the distance again for another visit to this establishment. Yummy, yummy good food π and service.
Wonderful food, little sketch on service. Probably understaffed like the rest of the planet right now. Would definitely recommend.
Ive been meaning to get here for a long time. I was pleased. Finally a breakfast place with some seasoning.I ordered the loaded biscuits and gravy with a side of sausage. The meal was biscuits topped with home fries, eggs, smothered with gravy and sprinkled with cheese. The sausage gravy was really good even though theres no sausage in it (4th place in a row like this). But very tasty nonetheless. The home fries were cooked to a golden brown perfection. The eggs were also very well done and you can tell they were cooked in drippings that were on the griddle. They had so much flavor. There were a couple things that stopped me from giving 5 stars. One was the star of the show, the biscuits. They were like nothing Ive had before. Very dense and crumbly. It wasnt horrible but not what I like. The sausage on the side was also not my favorite. Really thin patties which were cooked a little too long. The flavor was ok.All in all it was a good breakfast and Ill go back to try other things on the menu. The options were big and the waitress was friendly and attentive. ππΎ
The food was enjoyable and portions were large. They have some basic favorites as well as some which take a creative spin. I had croissant french toast. Not soggy. Ice cream comes with every kids meal. We went around 11am and there werent a lot of people in there, but they were busy by the time we left.
Food was delicious and the atmosphere was amazing! My only complaint would be there isnβt much room between tables. We ended up making conversation with the people at the table next to us because we were so close. The servers didnβt have much room to do their job, so I felt bad for them.
The diner is a fun place and has great service. You will get full off the food you order, and the food was great.
This is a cool place. I was in Plainfield so I had to check Oasis Diner out. I went at lunch on a Tuesday. It was not too busy. The options are the menu are plentiful. They have something for everyone. I opted for breaded tenderloin and onion rings. The tenderloin was pounded like a Hoosier tenderloin should be, perfect. Not too thin not too thick. The breading was tasty and crunchy. It was only slightly overdone. If you go for the breaded tenderloin opt for another side than Onion rings. The breading is too much for both.
I think this is the coolest little gem of a diner. The fried mushrooms are hands down the best Ive ever had. The peanut butter pie is pure decadent naughtiness. The butterscotch root beer is mad genius level fantastic. The waitress was so sweet and attentive. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is because my eggs were hammered. I probably should have specified how I wanted them prepared in retrospect. No.matter, I.will definitely be back!
We love this place. Cool building. Big, interesting menu. Good prices. Huge portions.Small gripe: We come with our dog to the outdoor dining. Its great and always give us a water bowl. But the table never has an umbrella. Too hot on a hot day. Got burned!
This is a excellent place to eat. I love the old fashion drinks. The decor is awesome. The service was awesome! This place is clean and fast at service once you get in, they are popular so you have to wait sometimes. This is a definite repeat!
Easy to access, with great parking, and surprisingly beautiful scenery outside. Priced extremely well, for the portion sizes, as well as flavor. Simple yet excellent menu selection. Real diner food, with the real diner feel. Service was friendly and on point. I know a lot of my reviews are funny, but this place deserves the highest praise. Truly awesome experience.
Service very good. Food variety expansive. Brought me back to the 60s. Great atmosphere.
Food and service were both amazing! We ordered burgers and could instantly tell they were not pre-made frozen patties. They were super fresh and delicious we will definitely be heading back to try their breakfast! Service was quick and efficient and they girls were super nice!
Amazing food in classic diner that has been around since the 1950s. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our server Statham was attentive and made some spot-on suggestions.
Good food, nice staff, just wish the cooks would have gotten our order right.
Decided to try this place again and was again underwhelmed with the food. Eggs looked like they were cooked in grease, pancake was not cooked all the way through and the add on of home fries, burnt and I could count the number of potato chunks served. Tenderloin sandwich could have drained a little longer as the bottom bun was soggy with grease. Thankfully the bug on the floor was dead. Not worth the $30 spent on dinner for two in my opinion.
The food is good and staff nice but good golly it was slow to get our order out. The waiter did save the day though and grab my keys i forgot but 30-45 min to just get an omelette my gosh.
Ordered the Brunch burger. It was great on a croissant as they were out of the large English muffins (was looking forward to the egg busting and getting in the nooks and crannies). Luckily, before we left,, they got a delivery from the woman who makes them homemade. Bought a bag of 8 giant ones for $6. Score! Thanks for a great lunchππ
Great environment, friendly waitress and large portions of very good food. Perfect spot for a lunch or date night
I met here with a friend for lunch but both of us were in the mood for biscuits and gravy and they were DELICIOUS!Then as I left I decided I wanted to try one of their cinnamon rolls so since I was taking it to go they tried to put it in this container but it WAS SO BIG it barely fit which was not a bad thing LOL. I took it home and put it in the microwave and it was amazing!!I definitely recommend this place. All the food was HOT AND DELICIOUS and FAST which was very nice for my friend who was only on a hour lunch. I will be back.
Took my father and my son out for a simple dinner in a quality diner. Great food, great staff, very relaxing.
Ate the breakfast tenderloin with my sides which was home fries and crumble eggs lol basic... my food has more grease than gravy on top of my tenderloin. My home fries looked redipped and oily. I end up not having to pay for my meal. Very unacceptable
I love going here and the food is really good! We just had to wait a really long time for our food. But if you are not in a hurry and have the time, its worth it!
Best tenderloin ever, service was great. Quaker burger π perfect as well.
Friendly staff in a cozy retro diner. Outside seating was fairly pleasant but also fairly noisy with passing traffic. Expect to pay about $8 for most things on the menu, including breakfast items. Good variety of items.
Really enjoyed the grilled chicken, mashed potatoes and baked beans.
Great food! Unique diner, great for dates! There is a park next door if you want to take a walk.
Delicious, great service, and great music. Our new favorite place.
We love breakfast at the diner! Lots of good options and service is always the best!I love the in-house crafted sodas!
Stopped here for lunch after seeing an article on the best burgers in each state. I know, who knows how these places get selected but we were heading to St. Louis from Ohio and just thought ya gotta eat somewhere.Great stop. I got the Western burger. Burger with two handmade onion rings, barbecue sauce, bacon, and pepper jack cheese. The burger was done to perfection, moist but not greasy. Crisp bacon. It just had an overall good flavor. The onion rings were perfect. I had a side of baked beans and they were very well done with a lot of flavor. My wife had the buffalo chicken wrap which was huge and stuffed with chicken. Her french fries were crisp on the outside and just right inside. There were about 12 desserts listed but we were so full from the sandwiches that we passed. There is a full breakfast menu with a tremendous amount of options that are available all day as well as a full line of burgers, sandwiches, and some entrees. We are looking forward to stopping several times in the future as we have grandchildren in St Louis and are always looking for a good place to stop for lunch on the way there. The waitress even asked if we would like an iced tea to go.
Very friendly & attentive waitress. Food was hot fresh & good.
This is a great place to eat. The best onion rings Ive ever had. Good tenderloin and the ice cream is fabulous. Cant wait to take the kids there again.
Friendly service very good food did take long for our food
Servers are almost always in a good mood and almost always busy helping customers. Havent had a bad experience there yet.
My sister and her son and his daughter And my wife and I went there for breakfast, instead of going to cracker barrel boy was we wrong. The music was so loud and the waitress was not very good at her job. We had to ask for silverware and the coffee was warm not hot and people was coming in and left because it took so long for service . the manager better find better help on weekends in all the food was ok but the service help was lousy.
What a great little diner. Food was great! Service couldve been better, but it wasnt so bad that it bothered me. Its a diner after all. π Only real issue is that it was very warm inside. Heat index is nearly 100Β° today though so it could just be the unit having a hard time keeping up. Again, not something that would keep me from coming back.I wont post it all here, but the history of this little diner is pretty interesting. James Canavan and Frank Thurber, the original owners, moved this diner here via railroad in 1952. The interior and exterior have been restored to its original appearance and the diner is one of the last remaining historical diners that remains on US 40 between Cumberland, MD and Vandalia, IL.If youre in the area and are looking for a good, quick bite, definitely give them a shot. They serve breakfast all day, their sodas are hand crafted, and the pork tenderloin sandwich is bigger than my head! Check them out! ππ΄
Always enjoy dining here. The Family feel in the atmosphere is contagious. Ppl are warm and welcoming to each other.
Food is typically good here. My kids had one bad experience with breakfast for dinner, but usually good. Service is typically average (the one really bad time was the same time as the bad food). The biggest overall complaint I have here is that every time my husband orders pie, they are out of what he orders. Seems a bit odd because we almost always go before dinner rush starts. If it had happened one time I would chalk it up to unexpected rush on something, but of all the times hes ordered pie, hes only gotten it once (and even that time they were out of his first choice). He often goes through trying to order 2 or 3 choices before he gives up because they are out of all of them.
Food and soda were amazing. My dad and I had lunch there yesterday and both left full and happy. Service could use some work but the food and drinks compensated for the lack of service
Great service and interesting memorabilia hanging on the wall. Most of us got tenderloins and everyone seemed to like what they got. Maybe a touch salty for my taste, but otherwise the food was exactly as youd expect. The batter they use is very good.
It was excellent!! We went in an hour before closing with a large group. They were so nice about it! Service was great, food was great! We will be going back again.
Fun atmosphere in this old school diner. Records, right tracks and casettes all over and old music playing. Breakfast menu looked great, but we went during lunch and it was kind of what we expected. Our table of six got the beef manhattan, a deluxe grilled cheese, mushroom swiss burger, tenderloin, chef salad, and a sampler of fried mushrooms, spiders, and loaded fries. All the food was great, but it took 40 minutes to make and there were only three other tables there. Waitress was nice, but seemed to be doing several things while others were standing around. All around good and well give it another shot. Also love the art next to the parking lot π
