To me this place is like the K-mart of sporting good stores. When I was a kid we didnt want to be caught in a K-mart or have clothes from K-mart. Im not so sure about their store brand of things but they do have a nice selection of big brand names available. The employees are nice and helpful. There is a fairly good variety of items depending on what you are looking for but they definitely do not have it all in store. Im used to most sporting goods stores feeling cozy and warm with a rugged, active, and outdoorsy feeling. This place is kind of bright lights, sterile, and straight forward retail. There isnt one close to me so I dont frequently visit but all of my visits have been great. Their available in store on their website is inaccurate which is frustrating when driving a long distance to find they do not actually have the items I am wanting. I will shop here again and I have used their online services. If the atmosphere was a little more inviting and their inventory in stock was correct they would be a 5 star for sure but at this point and honorable 4 star.

It is a very open and organized store. Found the sports shirts we wanted on clearance and the camp food we needed. We even got bear spray.

Out of all the Academy Sports stores in the Kansas City area the Overland Park location is the best. Easy to find great deals and always a good selection for size 14 mens shoes!

Great variety of sporting items especially Super Bowl items. The store was very clean and organized. The layout of the store was good as well. This was my first time at this particular location. The employees weren’t as friendly and helpful as they are at the location that I normally shop at. My cashier in particular seemed to not have a not friendly customer service attitude. Like Academy stores just not sure about visiting this particular location again.

I really like Academy, however when shopping for my team sports apparel, I have trouble finding my size. A 3xl isnt an odd or an extreme size. I also wasnt the only one looking and not finding 3xl items. Academy should look at their customers and recognize the opportunity. I know so many people that struggle with the same problem. Very disappointing as I would love to buy these apparel items from Academy because this is where I buy fishing equipment, kayak supplies, shoes and....etc.

Nice clean store. Staff only helped at checkout and I walked the whole store looking for something specific and no one asked if I needed help. Thats OK we got to look at all the merchandise. lol.

I am not into sport but i always go to get my daughters tennis shoes! She is half sizes and they have variety of sizes and shoes! Also got prizes! The times that I had try to buy from others stores never find the size or variety that they have!!

Great big store in a great location. Many many sections to look at and browse through. Shoe and boot department is definitely the biggest and most versitle shoe section of all the sporting goods stores. The in-store brand of Magellen is pretty good especially when it comes to the fishing and cooler sections. Overall pretty good store, could use a better golf section.

Was in need of a rain suit, walked in and out. Was very pleased with their prices. And had so many things i needed in the same place. Was a great First Experience!!! Thank you!!

We had been to Academy to pick life jackets for our boat. The store is having huge sales right now and a lot of summer gear is available. The store is implementing social distancing and its safe to visit.Lowest price in town for life jackets at $6.49

This place was not willing to work with me to fix the issue that their store created in Wichita, that story will be below. I asked to pay for a bike over the phone so my parents that live in Kansas City could pick up the bike and bring it when they visit their grandson. They said they cant take a payment over the phone and would not hold the product. Stay away from this place they have zero customer service and act as if I was bothering their Facebook time to help me. Here is what happened in WichitaWish I could give them the negative stars they earned. Went in to purchase a larger bike for my son now that has learned to ride without training wheels on 5-26-2021. After waiting around the store for over 30 minutes to see if they had the bike in the back that my son had picked they finally came back and said they have two in stock. I purchased the bike and they said the assembly person would be in on Friday or Saturday to put it together. I waited until 5-31-21 to call for an update because they had not called me as they had agreed to do when the bike was ready. After being on the phone with the manager for 15 minutes he finally asked for the item number, so I looked it up on the internet and gave it to him. He said that they had sold both the bikes they had in stock and I was out of luck. So I went to the store to be sure it was not on the rack just waiting for me to pick up. No luck, I received a refund for the bike and everything else I purchased on 5-26-21 and none of the employees even seemed to care they just wanted me to be gone. Well guess what, I will be gone forever. As an avid hunter and with both my kids playing sports, they have lost a really good customer forever. Do yourself a favor and just go somewhere else, as this place sucks.

A large store with lots of merchandise. We came specifically for shoe needs and found the staff extremely helpful. As well, its clean and laid out very well.

We love their workout equipment and bikes. Staff is somewhat annoying but I dont care about that.

Looked bare. Huge expanse of space on sales floor, that seems odd considering department stores propensity of cluttering floor space with so called feature pallets, which in reality cause bottlenecks abd nake navigation for wheelchair or stroller uses more stressful than it should be. In addition there were huge empty gaps on shelving where products should have been. Is there something we should know?

Good store for lots of sporting, but minus a star as some prices are just a bit to high. They will price match though if you find it cheaper, which chances are if you look you will.

I like that I never feel like Im waiting! I love the fact that you can have your receipt emailed to you! Im notorious for losing my receipt either a pocket or it just vanished. They always have a great selection and the prices are great! Returns are never a problem! Just remember to have the email receipt.

We bought a game table, no one was there to help us we finally found an associate who told us to take the sign off the table to the check-out. We got all checked out and went to customer service and immediately the gentleman working was rude to us and acted like it was our fault that no one was there to check to see it the item was actually in stock. He finally sent an associate to go look and when they came back the associate told the man that there was one back there and the gentleman immediately told the associate to be quiet. They gave us the refund, but none of this should have happened and we definitely didnt need to be treated like that.

I was pleasantly surprised at the selection of shoes at great prices!! My oldest wears a 14 wide, which are hard to find. Found a great pair of Nikes and a pair of Wolverine boots all for right around $100 total!

They have a great selection of different colored short sleeved v-neck and regular t-shirts. Also several colors of thermal mens shirts, my favorite are the Magellan t-shirts! Plenty of Chiefs apparel in stock.

Best prices on running shoes. I always find the best deals at this store. They also have a really great line of sports clothing. They sell a nice selection of guns as well with knowledgeably sales people. Always a great experience with great prices..

I purchased a mountain bike for my daughter at a great price. We got it home and were having a hard time pedaling on it. I called the store because I thought something was wrong with the bike. I had a fantastic experience speaking with Mike ( I believe he was a new team lead). As soon as I explained my issue he was immediately able to identify I had a mountain bike and he patiently walked me through adjusting the controls to a comfortable setting. It is always wonderful when people actually have thorough knowledge on the products they are selling. Kudos to Mike for being a wonderful addition to this store and I look forward to many more pleasant experiences at this location.

Huge catch on their price match guaranteed policy. They only price match vendors they considered as ‘competitor’, not just any vendor. For a store that size, it was hard to find someone to help me out on picking a pair of shoes. Cutting extra fat on labor is great but stretching too thin would hurt the business.

Overall, the store was clean, well lit and staff was extremely attentive and helpful. To be fair, selections of some products were limited. This may be due to recent conditions. Pricing was excellant.

Great products..high prices but good sales sometimes and big selection! Clean and nice people.. except there was some disappointment when there was a knife , the only one left , that they had priced lower than it was supposed to be . However, they didnt honor that price. It really upset me because I knew that my best friend had one just like it years ago and I had borrowed and lost it . It was Christmas time so I would have loved to have bought it for him.

I want to write a horrible review due to the service I received today BUT I shop here a lot and it’s rare I watch my wallet and if something is advertised as one price but you are charged more, you say something. The employee scanned it again and said “no, this is the price” mind you it’s just a few dollars different but I then spent several more minutes going to and taking pictures of their sign, the talked to another employee who apologized and said customer service could fix it. Customer service is where I bought it. I was going to leave but I couldn’t , the employee already knew why I was back as she said, I know they are taking about me? Anyways after she refined me I told her this could of all been avoided if she would have asked any other employee to look, rather than making the customer feel like an idiot/liar.

Grace is one of the best retail employees who Ive encountered in a LONG time! She was some helpful and saw it through that another store had in stock the item I was looking for since her store didnt have it in stock! Great store and highly appreciated the prompt attention (even though it wasnt her department) given to one of its first time customers! I highly recommend this location for your sporting and outdoor needs!
