By far the best lumber yard Ive been to in the state. Very welcoming and friendly staff, they really go above and beyond. I stopped in one time when I was in the area and I only needed a couple small boards, and they still treated me as a valued customer as if Ive been doing business with them forever. Ive been to other lumber yards where I get the impression that Im wasting their time with small, hobbyist orders and felt rushed. Not here at all. Since then, Ive visited a few other times and the experience has always been wonderful. They have a full selection of North American hardwood, both rough and S4S as well as exotics. They also have a nice selection of moldings, which I havent had the need to purchase yet but when I do I will definitely stop here first. The quality of the lumber is top notch and the prices are fair. I couldnt recommend this place enough.

I would absolutely recommend going to JH Monteath. I walked in not knowing what I was looking for but found a few pieces that really caught my eye. I am just starting out in woodworking so Im not too keen on some species of woods. One of the employees, Ed, took the time to actually explain what the species are good for and even provided me a printout on how to best work with each type I got. Next thing I know he is showing me around the facility and its been 2 hours since I first walked in the door. If you are looking for a place to shop for hardwoods, slabs and want to be treated right look no further.

Im starting to get into woodworking but couldnt find a place to buy a large selection of nice wood anywhere near me. I found this place today and I couldnt ask for more. They have exotic species in stock that look awesome as well as a bunch of native woods. A lot of s4s and rough cuts. The people are friendly, even to a first time buyer like me. I will be back.

Great experience here today. Ed and Dimitri were a pleasure to deal with and I was able to find some premium hardwoods for my Christmas woodworking projects. I enjoyed the conversation and learning about some of the different varieties from people who have an obvious passion for what they do. They have the best supply of quality wood in the area. They can supply the biggest of projects, but always make time for this small time artist in sourcing the perfect pieces of exotic wood for my projects. In fact Im heading there today! In the photos are examples of the wenge, Bolivian rosewood and wavy maple I picked up last time. Absolutely beautiful

Im just getting into woodworking and Im so glad I found this place! Great supply of different lumber of great quality and variety!Ed was very helpful and explained the differences and helped me pick out some wood for my first big project (a desktop) and cut and cleaned the edges for me!

What a great place. I needed to match some old chestnut wood and they were very accommodating. The sales man even explained how they cut and vacuum wood and reuse the sawdust to my 12 year old son. Highly recommend.

The three employees we met were warm, informative, and above all, patient. The abundant variety of exotic wood borders on overwhelming. The space is beautifully set up, and super clean. As a new woodworker i was a bit intimidated to come into a lumberyard, but the guys answered questions were friendly and were very patient.

He took great care of us even gave us a tour of their facility where molding is made . A hidden gem. Great hardwood stock. Excellent quality and best prices. Best lumber yard for a hobbyist. Seeing their huge operation, very hesitantly I asked for my requirement a total of 8/4” 6 linear feet. Without any fuss or hesitation they agreed to cut the 3 species of 2 feet each. Never experienced a lumber yard with such friendly and helpful staff. I wish I had known about them earlier and not have to order online and pay a hefty freight charge. Eventually I landed up buying 24 linear feet - 4 times my requirement 😊. Matt is a very knowledgeable and friendly person - I was pleasantly surprised. Will definitely do business again and again. Very Good place to buy wood. People there ere very gentle and assist you on every need. The wood are dried at the exact point ready to make your furniture. I found it cheap than to buy at Home Depot or Lowes. I do really recommend.

These guys are the best....prices, knowledge, inventory - you name it.Their millwork is precision. When they promise a delivery date they are always on schedule. I drive right past 2 big box stores on way to Monteaths. Why pay more for less quality?
