Sil Thread has been one of my favorite garment district shop stops for decades. I was first introduce while interning at a design house. They have always been fair respectful and informative. I love this place.

I have been disappointed Everytime Im gotten thread from anywhere else. So this is my place for thread.

Sil is one of the best trims/notions stores in the city. They have a solid supply of YKK zippers, fabric shears, garment bags, thread, interfacing, pattern paper, and most other sewing/tailoring/knitting/pattern making tools you could need. The staff are friendly and helpful. Their prices are reasonable, and Im pretty sure they have a student discount.

They have a plethora of sewing supplies here, virtually anything and everything. Not to mention their extensive supply of zippers in all colors, lengths, types, so on and so forth. It is fairly inexpensive and the staff is helpful. Just a heads up though, they wont except card payment unless the amount due is $10 and up.

Super helpful. Just a tip: If you need to color coordinate with a specific color of tread? Please bring a sample(s) of your fabric . Thats what I do and carefully choose the threads that is the exact match. I would ask a staff member in the back of the store. They are super helpful. They also have a large selection of accessories at reasonable prices. You cant go wrong with SIL Tread.

Im in here all the time for work and its one place I wish I could linger a little longer. Everything is well organized and reasonably priced. Excellent selection of scissors and other important items as well as little odds and end you didnt know about but help so much around the office (or wherever you do your sewing).Sometimes the place gets busy and the salespeople seem a little rushed but theyre so so nice and if they have a minute, theyll really help you out.

I LOVE this store!! They have every zipper, in every length, in over 250 colors! And the zipper prices start at $1...you can also buy machine tools for prices that cant be matched anywhere else. Back to the zippers - if you need a ZIPPER, come here first! They carry YKK, which are high quality!!!!

I came here on the Saturday before Christmas around 2pm. It was very quiet, I assume because all students and fashion houses are all on Christmas break.There are many trim shops around here, but I was looking for one with extra long YKK zippers for clothing storage containers I’m making.They’ve got a pretty thorough selection of YKK zippers and Excella zippers. Invisible, plastic, metal, nylon, stretchy, water resistant. Many different lengths.I ended up getting 3 YKK Nylon Zippers 60” long to sew into my homemade cotton canvas storage cubes.I was also looking for a really thin cord elastic. I gave them a sample that was the right size but wrong color. But they didn’t have anything thin enough. I’ll have to keep looking for that.

DO NOT GO TO SIL!! they are so rude and they will personally take advantage of you if you do not know what your doing. They will push you to get the most expensive kits when you dont need them and they will purposely give you the wrong stuff. They also do not offer refunds!!

Make sure you visit the back, check out the various ykk zippers. Ive since seen them on varying clothes and each can tell or help assume the quality of the garment. You never use cheap zippers on something quality.

YKK and Excella zippers galore! Interfacing, garment bags, rulers, thread, scissors, pattern making paper, anything you can wish for!!! This has been my favorite place for the last 6 years! Cherry on top? Cordial staff!!!

Essential shop in the garment District for thread, zippers and various other necessities for garment construction. Too many items to name as they carry a lot of things. What Sil specializes in particular are their threads for both light weight and top stitching (stocked in an extensive array of colors I dare anyone to name another store that holds a retail stock of threads, in the amount of colors, like Sil does) and their YKK zipper selection, metal, plastic, excela, water resistant, even +40 zippers (B&W only) they are pretty much the only ones on the garment district selling YKK (Pacific trim sells botoni). They have a lot.Minor gripe is that their lights are kinda blue and color matching can be frustrating, but they arent the only ones, mood also has bluish lighting.
