Very clean and the products change from time to time. The do have great deals!!

The general security gard here keeps this place safe and helps you out whenever you need it. Sadly people keep trying to steal here and cause trouble for him when he tries his best to keep the peace. If you see him let him know hes doing a good job and look out for anyone trying to steal And let him know. Its nyc and we gotta look out for one another. I come here every so often to shop and i feel safe when hes there.

The best store to shop in. I buy my food there, but, I still have to go to the supermarket for fruit/veggies and meat.

Definitely the place for bargain sales and finding goods that are normally very expensive. Though at the moment they are only one floor and not as diverse as the Jacks on 32nd street. Their selection is good for a place with lots of varied amounts of goods. Give them a try.

This is a good Jacks store. I come here a lot to purchase cheap giveaways and other items for my German events. The staff is always very helpful. The store seems to be better managed than other Jacks stores. Its obvious that the staff is supervised better.

Poor shopping experience. I had stopped by a few times a week on my way home for years, including during the Covid pandemic when they had only few customers. This Labor Day weekend the security man said he needed to look in my pushcart before I left. And said he was just doing his job. If someone working at this store thought it was sane to ask a customer of over 10 years to look in their pushcart because some other people have taken things, I can understand why their customer base at this location is getting smaller.If Jack’s 99 on 40th st wishes to treat its long term customers like that, it does seem like they don’t want their long term customers from the neighborhood to shop there. When I shop at the Whole Foods up the block, the Lot-Less across the street they are happy to have my business even though they’re crowded. Then here, where I have shopped at least 3 times a week after shopping at other stores, and am familiar with all the workers faces , they with mine and I pay with card every single time, it was misguided for anyone to tell the security man to do that or the store has sadly dropped in practicing logical customer service, especially to long term customers.I have also never seen these people look in the bags of a White customer. And scrolling through the 1 star reviews on Google about this Jack’s location, there seems to be a common thread concerning inequitable security attention when it comes to patrons who are not White.The store is mostly empty these days and asking to look into the bags of a long term customer seems to be the only idea some staff can think of to appear busy. Sometimes, store staff do things that make no sense. Like chasing away a long term customer thru illogical actions. Whoever told the security guard to do that does not have the interest of this store in mind and should be fired. What an insult! But again, there are many other stores in the area to shop that enjoy having long term customers.

Clean store. Social distancing. I didnt see any associates on the selling floor. I didnt need help, just didnt see any. I was able to find as few things. I plan to return again.

Went there years ago and I havent been able to get out, the experience and savings will always stay in my mind. Waiting on covid-19 to relax a little bit more. I have family coming from the south and they requested that JACKS is a tourist attraction for them. See you soon

I have been shopping at this store for years, great prices usuallyvery nice staff. However on a recent visit I was stopped by awhite security guard and asked to show a my receipt, I askedwhy and he said he was checking everyones receipt - nottrue. This was not store policy. So to my black brothers andand sisters beware!

Will not shop in here again until they life the ridiculous mask policy which is plain out stupid since no other store is requiring it.

Always clean and orderly in this Jacks location. The staff is always attentive and helpful, gotta live that! And honestly, I go into this Jacks for one or two items and wound up leaving with a load of other stuff because of their polite staffing, note this includes the cashiers. One of my favorite lunch time errand shops. You cant ever go wrong going to this Jacks.

Jacks never disappoints me - invariably I find whatever I have in my mind, and sometimes even if I dont have that in my mind. Got myself a pretty cute wine tote (with slots) that is a perfect gift bag for wine bottles.

Unorganized and many overpriced items. The layout of sections is quite messy and not easy to navigate thought. Many overpriced regular items, i.e. $24.99 for 3 regular Brita filters(only $14.99 at Target), $3.99 for Windex($3.29 at Target)...etc. You need to know the market price to shop there. Not a bargain store shopping experience I expected.

Unfortunately the sections where home furnishings were (near the front against the left wall when entering, for example) are now rearranged and very scattered. whats more disappointing is that a lot of that space is reassigned for kids toys😟 which obviously means less room for home furnishings at this Jacks.Important: There is a green sign on the front glass which lists store hours, which I uploaded a pic of. I suggest you go with that sign and not whats displayed through Google Maps.I think the payment line is efficient here. Lots of chips, cheese, cold drinks in the rear. Be efficient and also visit Lot Less across the street, theyre similar in the items they sell.

Dont go here thinking its a cream of the crop store. I grew up in the Bronx, where 99 cent stores are abundant. Coming to Manhattan, I was saddened to realize cheap items werent readily available... Until I found Jacks. This place has everything I need from home at prices that beat the local discount stores. Thanks again for being a staple in my life!

I love the flea market/bargain bin ambiance with the modern atmosphere, and the wonderful collection of hair products that they have. Also the mens apparel, except for the tank tops (wife beaters) that I purchased and the X/L was STILL tight on me. I also have a beer belly, so partially, it was my fault as well as the manufacturers. Jack will not be put on the spot for that one, it isnt his fault, I swear. The prices are another “well done” because you get more for your money. Thank you, Jacks on West 40th. I will continue to look and I will love the visits as usual.- Louis

Recently went to this store but before going inside I took a phone call and a white security guard for the store was standing out side talking the whole time. Once I went in the guard IMMEDIATELY followed behind me. I couldnt even get a shopping cart before he was breathing down my neck asking do I need help. I replied no thank you and continued on. This guard followed me throughout the entire store even up to checkout. He was so close to me he was knocking thing over. I make plenty to purchase what i want. This store need to watch out before they get in so real trouble.

Been going here for a couple years.Great deals on almost EVERYTHING you could need....and everything you never thought you needed. Unique products to make daily living easier. Healthier food selections (Especially the frozen section).Really, you have to check this place out. They also have 2, equally as good, other Manhattan locations.***Store hours have changed due to COVID. According to Google, Mon - Sat. 8 - 6 pm. Sun. 10 - 6 pm.***

I like jacks. They have affordable products of variety however the staff dont check food dates and they are late opening usually because of a security guard they apparently need. He was an hour late which delayed the store. Thats not accommodating to customers time at all. Do better.

Had never been to this place! Not sure why! Fantastic selection of staples in your basic groups. Food, home, health and beauty. If you need a cheap suitcase, this place has it!Another place across the street had close out and discontinued stuff as well. Worth checking out both when your arrive to see what you can grab for the hotel room or at the end of your trip to take home.

The best prices in the city as far as cold drinks or a bag of chips or a Snickers bar goes. In your typical newstand they want $2 for a Hershey bar where its only $1 in jacks. Plus they sell lots of other items . Its like a close out type of store.

Great prices, Im glad I paid attention to my total at checkout. An item rang up more expensive than they were tagged but the cashier adjusted the price according to what the items were priced.

Everything you need all in one place. Considering where it is in the city the prices are very good. Some items are better to purchase on amazon or something, but if you need an iron in the middle of the day or want to buy and make a lunch or you feel like decorating your office, Jack’s is the place to go. They keep it pretty organized and they have a bunch of registers so there is never too long of a wait.

Quintessential NYC 99¢ store. Surprisingly decent place to buy groceries. Several branches. This one I like better than 32nd St.

My co-worker Been took me to this store. I almost lost my mind and money. You name it they got it. I didnt know what to choose from, everything they had I needed it. Make a list before you go in there. They even have food, yeap you heard me say food. The atmosphere was good staff eager to help you find what you looking for, prices you cant beat. Its a no brainers when you shop in there. I am going to try again and not lose my mind since I already know there is a lot to choose from. Take my advice before you step foot in there.

They have all the essentials. The food section is well stocked with the basics and a lot of interesting stuff for foodies.

Jacks is so fun. I ran out of moisturizer and happened to find a nice retinol serum at a great price. This is a good spot for interesting snacks. I bought some jalapeno, protein puffs. They were so tasty, I wish Id bought more!

Great place (quiet cheap too) for some excellent souvenirs and gifts for your friends and family. Its very close to time square and the staff were very nice.

This place is very big and has most of everything that you need to buy. They have kitchen ware, bathroom products, electronics, hair products, chocolates, clothing, nail products..and a lot more. The prices are also reasonable. I personally enjoyed my shopping here.

This Jacks is better than the one on 33rd street, its definitely smaller so if you need a huge variaty you should go to the one closest to Madison square. However I feel that the general quality of merchandise is better in this store.

This place is like an inner city Wal-Mart on a smaller scale. So many things....food, toys and gifts. Decent amount of staff. Everything was well stocked for the holidays.

This place has some super cheap grocery items. The prices are greatly slashed. I have no idea why but its an amazing place to save unnecessary money spent on super expensive groceries near the times square.

Awesom store fibd great deals and different items

I’ve never had a poor experience shopping here. Always delightfully affordable promotions happening!! I am able to explore brand new snacks and drinks without breaking my wallet!!!For example, 4 for $1 Flavored Diet Coke and 2 for $1 Hillshire cold cut snack packages. These retail for $3.50 at my local Walmart and flavored Diet Cokes typically sell for $1.50 each at my deli.Never encountered anything expired!! I totally support buying throwaway items instead of physically throwing them away because they didn’t sell in their original distributor stores, lol.

Shopped at this store in 2009, but it was the one opposite the Hilton hotel. Such a nice store, such good and crunchy Pretzels too. Will never forget this place.
