Came for a quick bite before heading to the MET. Wished they had a more legit outdoor dining area instead of a couple chairs under construction barracks lolThe food was pretty good tho. The shakshouka came with tahini, baked feta and pita. The hummus plate had pickles, roasted eggplant and tomatoes on top and came with a spicy green relish (sorry not sure what it was). I recommend both of those. The Moroccan tea was bland and not sweet. We paid $47 for 2 shakshoukas, one hummus plate and a Moroccan iced tea. Fed 3 people just right.

Caveat: I have only been here once, so theres a good chance I would have a much better experience the second or third time.My first visit was perhaps a little unique because there was a family (or maybe two families?) with about 5 kids screaming their little heads off and running amock as if the restaurant were their living room. I mean its cute maybe the first five seconds, but after that, it made this place downright UN-mellow.As small as it was, we were able to nab a seat at a table with bar stools. Overall, it was a pretty uncomfortable dine-in experience given how loud it was (kids, lots of people coming in and out). The food was good, but nothing to write home about (we both got the pita zaatar). I would definitely recommend this as a quick stop for a bite of breakfast before catching a train or commuting to work. But its not a place to linger and really enjoy your food.

Good offering from a local coffee shop. Other reviews have noted the lack of bathroom, but I don’t see that as too much of a negative for a place like this. The coffee itself was strong and professionally made, plus they were personable enough to hand out some freebie smoothie samples. Overall an unusual vibe, but it definitely works.

Loved this place. It is small and cosy, exactly the kind of place youd want to have just beneath your home.We had the Shakshouka which was very good, but what was even better was the coffee. We had the frappe that was really really good. Its basically blended ice coffee, but I guess youll just have to taste it because it doesnt sound as good as it tastes.Do visit if youre around and looking for something casual

This small coffee shop really knows how to make delicious quality food. We got shakshuka and hummus abo Rafa. The food tasted so fresh. There are 4 small tables and a bar top. Great place for a quick bite and small talk over coffee with pastries. Interior is so cute and well designed. I am so happy to find this gem in upper east side. I will definitely be returning to try more on the menu.

Mellow yellow is truly one of my favorite spots in the city. I’ve been coming here for over two years now and have never been more satisfied from the food, the atmosphere and the staff is always so nice and friendly. I absolutely love the fact that it is animal friendly and my dog always gets a treat from the owner Nir. The sky is absolutely amazing! Always with a smile and always helpful. Appreciate the fact that I can always count on Mellow Yellow when I need my daily dose of coffee or when I’m hungry and want something fresh and tasty! Thank you Mellow Yellow staff!! And especially to Nir!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mellow Yellow is my home away from home.Upon moving to the neighborhood 2 years ago, I stopped inside of Mellow Yellow to grab a quick snack and was greeted with extraordinary amounts of kindness, companionship and warmth. The owner was super friendly and listened patiently as I told him about my move to the Upper East Side. His passion for Mellow Yellow and for providing nourishment to anyone who walks into his (gorgeously decorated) space was immediately evident. The Abu-Raffa sandwich is my absolute favorite and, to this day, I look forward to my weekly stop by the shop for my order. Simply walking into the cafe makes me smile. For me, Mellow Yellow is without a doubt the most welcoming and yummy cafe in NYC. I thoroughly disagree with any reviews that state otherwise and I am so thankful to have such an open-hearted and friendly space in my neighborhood.Thank you Mellow Yellow for spreading passion and love in our community and for filling our bellies! Keep up the INCREDIBLE work!

Even through the pandemic, Nir has been relentless in serving his customers and delivering the best possible experience. My wife and I absolutely adore Nir and are so thankful to live just a couple of minutes from this awesome spot. I highly recommend the Abu Rafa sandwich, which is a personal favorite. Also, make sure to chat with Nir to fully embrace the Israeli vibe of the place. Nir is one of the most loving and caring individuals that I know and I really appreciate his NO POLITICS policy which keeps the environment super friendly and supportive. Was looking forward to eating here until we met whoever opens in the morning (owner). We came across this place on Yelp and decided to visit since it said it was currently open and unfortunately when we arrived they were closed. We decided to wait since we then saw on google that they opened at 8 and when we went to the door the owner pushed right through us and said sorry we open at 9 everyday with a horrendous attitude and continued to then walk his dog. Mellow Yellow should consider updating their business hours on public platforms but should also consider changing their attitude. I cant imagine eating from a place now where the workers have such poor attitudes....also why is there a dog in an eating facility?

This local coffee shop has tremendous potential. The one glaring miss is a bathroom. They tell people to go across the street and use the Starbucks bathroom,. The coffee is good and the staff are friendly and kind. Prices seem competitive and the decor is trendy and cool. There are enough seats to sit and service quick. Currently, they have a grade pending sign, so not sure what they need to overcome to get the A rating from the health department but I would give them a try, especially if you are just taking it to go.

I stopped by because it is an eclectic atmosphere for the upper east side. The coffee is good though a bit expensive. I don’t think I’ll come back because there is no bathroom here. So you drink coffee or eat and then you can’t really spend a lot of time here because of that. Maybe that is by design since it’s a tiny place.

This place is a gem hiding on 1st Ave! Its not just the food, people that work here are equally awesome and inviting! I probably tasted the best hummus! Talking to the owner (who is really friendly and a nice person) it seems, he sent chef to Israel to learn the real techniques and it shows in the food. The litmus test was, I hate celery. I think its a waste of space in our body to consume. But I wanted to eat more of celery in the magic sauce the chef created here! If you are in the neighborhood, definitely a place to stop by for food!

Great Could Become Greatest -- possible refinements could include less noise from kitchen, more space near register, more space to wait for order, and more efficient access to cream, sugar, etc. Feels too packed and chaotic at register. Good food and great coffee at prices that are steep, but really no steeper than those to be found at a Starbucks. Two large lattes will hit you for just over ten dollars. The store itself is a bit small, probably too small in which to work comfortably during high traffic periods. The music is at a medium volume; not nearly as loud as in nearby DTUT. Mellow Yellow is also brightly lit in comparison to DTUTs dark cavern. Brunch portions are very small, but also quite sophisticated. The advertised foreign coffees (Turkish, etc.) are mediocre. The free water is excellent.
